  1. Time for the Dead-o-Winter 2007 4-5A Forecast.

Look for Region 4-5A to be even more competitive than last year with more than a few twists and surprises. Here's how they stack up headed into spring:

    1. Riverdale 109 Points

    2. Smyrna 107 Points

    3. Blackman 101 Points

    4. Lavergne 98 Points

    5. Lebanon 95 Points

    6. Siegel 94 Points

    7. Oakland 73 Points

    8. Wilson Central 71 Points

Look for Riverdale and Smyrna to battle for the top spot and for Blackman/Lavergne/Lebanon/Siegel to have an absolute war for the last two spots. Expect the Week zero game between Blackman and Lavergne to have a major impact on the race.

The Dead-o-Winter forecast rewards teams that have large returning rosters and lots of returning seniors. Oakland and WC have neither and will need to rely heavily on their junior classes if they want to make a run.

The Dead-o-Winter forecast is based on the 2006 rosters and is calculated as follows:

    # Returning Players -- one point per player with a max points 44

#Returning Seniors -- one point per player with a max points 26

    # Players receiving post season recognition -- This is all-region, all-state, all-area, or being listed as a statistical leader in the final regular season DNJ stats. One point for each player.

    # Players receiving preseason recognition --- did not receive post-season recognition but still on roster and recognized in the Murphy Fair magazine. One-half point per player.

    Weight > 250 -- one-half point per player

    Weight > 190 -- one-third point per player

Speed -- My assessment of returning team speed (range was 5-7 points)

Intangibles -- my assessment of coaching situation, tradition, enthusiasm around the program, etc... (range was 5-8 points)

2006 Playoff -- One point for each round that a team reached in the playoffs. For instance, Smyrna received 5 points and Lavergne received two.

All of the usual disclaimers apply and I reserve the right to change my predictions at any time. :thumb:

Wow you must've put ALOT of time into this. Good job.

  2. SCN is right, smyrna has a passing offense fitting for a passing QB (sonny) and riverdale has a running offense fit for a running QB (mauricio). his comment was on point, though i dont see mauricio going anywhere

If he did come to Smyrna he could play a different skill position. It's not written in stone that he has to play QB.

  3. i thought that smyrnas defensive line was all juniors

from what I hear, our lines will actually be better in '07 then in '06.

    Returning Starters on offense:

    QB Sonny Gray

    WR Rod Wilks

    WR Will Martin

    TE Kelly Thomason

    OL Quentin Allen

    OL Tyler Montgomery

    OL Tyler Eady

New starters could be RB David Sanders, RB Jarvis Hicks, OL James Hudson, OL Kassidy Spence, OL Josh Prewitt

    On defense:

    returning

    DT Matt Rofrano

    DE Jeremy King

    DE Quentin Allen

    LB Josh Day

    CB Jonah Hendricks

    S Rod Wilks

    S Donovan Craig

    S Will Martin

new starters could be LB Tony Carr, CB Cody Hager, LB Kyle Frazier. I'm not sure about the rest on defense.

  4. dont need 2 tap lines

dont need 2 hide in da bushes

all i need 2 do is read what u said on my space.

    quit lyin.

    it is 4 any-1 2 read.

    "offseason transactions."

"can i stand on ur sidelines?"

    "3 headed monster."

u want me 2 post the link 2 prove it?

y do u think mauricio made his my space private all tha sudden?

    he knows i saw it.

he was promised a def position & a single digit # by sonny.

u need 2 delete what u said b-4 ur coach sees it.

whos a donkey now, lil pup?

u r stupid 2 write that kind of damagin stuff & think u wont get busted.

    recruitin at its finest.

Mauricio and Chris will decide what is best for them. I assume they both would like to play college ball. If I'm right, than I assume they think there is a good chance they can get a better scholarship playing for Smyrna because of exposure and it always looks good when you are on a winning and possibly championship team in high school.

At the end of the day, it's up to them. If they come to Smyrna, they will both be welcomed with open arms and if they don't, then we look forward to competing against them next year.

  5. Agree, qualify academically is not even in this picture. About half the kids UT goes after won't qualify academically. Ofcourse they don't get half that they go after but many don't make the grade. I think TN is ranked pretty well at #18 as well.

We could argue that we should be ranked higher than states like Maryland and North Carolina though.

  6. 1) There are juniors on the list. The first person seen (from left to right) is a junior, and the last person on the list (bottom right) is a junior.

    2) If leading a team to a championship is criteria for an individual being named to a Dream Team, then this list would be devoid of names like Golden Tate, Harrison Smith, and some others, and that would be an incomplete list of Tennessee standouts. Nevertheless, if leading a team to a championship quickly should be considered more so than individual talent/accomplishments, then Trent Caffee, a first year starter for Brentwood Academy's state title team, should be considered over Gray.

    3) I don't know if John Stokes is one of the best LBs in the state, but, having seen him play, his inclusion is no shame. He even has two state titles to his credit (if state titles are criteria...).

    4. Bob Stoops, Ed Orgeron, Steve Spurrier, Phil Fulmer, and Mike Leach apparently know who Roderick Davis is. That's some pretty high-octane offensive brain power there.

Glad to know winning doesn't mean much to you. :o

  7. Notice that every single player selected was a senior.

Who is Roderick Davis? Never heard of him all year. Rod Wilks is the better Rod in Tennessee and the best WR.

BJ Coleman didn't lead McCallie to a championship once in his career. Sonny Gray did in only his second year starting.

LB Josh Day had 20 sacks and WAY over 100 tackles. Tell me, how does John Stokes make it over him when he only had 85 tackles (doesn't even mention his sacks or lack there of) and his team got no where in the playoffs? And the answer better not be because he's a senior and Day is only a junior because if it is, then this "dream team" is stupid and pointless.

  8. oakland does have a CAD class. however, i don't think the teacher is going anywhere soon. You are good!!!!! It would be hard for him to leave now he is close to his players especially Sonny. But i wouldn't mind seeing him on the sidelines!!!!! Plus i believe he can teach math and a business class

There is NO WAY he is leaving Smyrna. His son Jordan wouldn't allow it. :thumb: That kid bleeds purple and gold.

  9. About Oakland's new administrator....Bruce Hicklen!!! Former OHS coach, Principle at Giles Co., and the Assistant Principle at Blackman HS. plus he and Mr. Vaughn know each other well. Coach Hicklen's son played baseball with Mr.Vaughn's son in high school. also Bruce's oldest son played football for Oakland. He could also help out coaching. I think he could bring some much needed nastiness, toughness, and more discipline. Now before you come after me, I know that oakland got tougher and had almost no discipline problems. But this is another coach with winning experience. But you would have to convince him to stop working for his oldest son which i think is a stretch.

Also heard through the grapevine that a smyrna coach would love to be at oakland if a job opened up. Not as an assistant principle, though. If this is true, it would be welcomed with lots of excitement.... I won't say who but it is an assistant. thats all I will say.

    GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's no fun. You gotta say their name. you can't go 90 and then not go the other 10.

  10. i think the circumstances of the series proves that riverdale has more credibility to talk than smyrna does...2 points is all that says smyrna can talk about riverdale

and a state championship. I think the win gave us the momentum on that historic run.

  11. yea I luaghed to when the ring guy said "you wouldn't believe what some idiots in the past have payed for the same ring, but hey it helps their ego"

the plastic rings go to all teams that made the quarterfinals in 06 sort of a participation type thing what size will you be needing :D

    oh snaaap

  12. Local paper Daily News Journal states that the Smyrna Bulldogs are trying to get people to help fund the rings. Do all Championship teams do this? I thought it was up to each player to fund their ring?

LSmyrna football team on a quest for championship rings

    By MEALAND RAGLAND-HUDGINS

SMYRNA — There's no better way to cap a championship season than having a ring to show for it, said Smyrna High football coach Phillip Shadowens.

Problem is, the Bulldogs need about 100 for the entire team and coaching staff. With rings expected to cost about $140 each, the Bulldogs need $15,000 to pay for them. Shadowens is asking the community to pitch in and help if they can.

"I hate to ask at this time of year, but the bottom line is nobody helps pay for the rings," said Shadowens, who coached his team to a 35-14 victory over defending champs Ravenwood in the Class 5A BlueCross Bowl Dec. 2.

The coach said about 40 rings have been paid for from the football team's account and donations from individuals and businesses around town. Most of those to receive rings have already been sized, but the actual ring order won't be placed until after Christmas break, Shadowens said.

"It doesn't have to be a whole ring. It can be half a ring or just whatever they can give. It'll all be appreciated," he said.

County Commissioner Mike Sparks gave enough money to cover one ring.

"I wish I could have done more, but I have a small business," said Sparks, who owns MidTN Autos. "With thousands of alumni of Smyrna High School, maybe some of them will step up to the plate and commit to a ring, too."

Rings are being designed now and once the order is placed, it'll take six to eight weeks for them to come back, Shadowens said. Players and coaches will receive the rings in a ceremony in the school auditorium.

To help, call Shadowens or Smyrna High Principal Robert "Bud" Raikes at 904-3865. Donations may also be sent to Smyrna High School c/o Football, 100 Bulldog Drive, Smyrna, TN 37167.

The Rutherford County Commission will also honor the team for all its hard work during the season with a resolution at Thursday's meeting. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the county courthouse on the Square in Murfreesboro. The public is invited to attend.

Some schools have more money than others.
