  1. Don't sweat DrEvil papabear. He has come after me on occasion and just headhunts for no good reason. We have done the same thing for the sake of resting the varsity and getting younger guys experience. Sometime the team score works out, sometimes not, but goals are accomplished even though others may not understand them.
  2. CBHS is also going to Brother Martin instead of the Father Ryan Inv. State Duals or State is the only possiblilty.
  3. What weight was he trying to make?
  4. Bobmarley, Only if you consider a win over a JV wrestler that was moved up a weight class monumental . Perhaps he was upset that Fryman wasn't at his weight that night. Borneman was out sick that night and Coach Holmes had to alter the lineup to have our strongest possible team out there. It definately seemed out of character for him, but that does not excuse the indiscretion.
  5. Enid should improve with the exposure to college coaches. This upcoming season, the Junior Duals was pushed a week later into July. College coaches cannot have exposure to kids prior July 1. In the past that was a problem but now it is not.
  6. Thanks Silverbullet. The brackets from last year's state tourney had him listed as a Junior.
  7. People have asked numerous times, Why should I go to Fargo? Well here it is in a nutshell. 1. Summer wrestling makes winter champions (maybe a bit overused but never the less true). Ryan Scott, Kyle James, Spencer Manley, Phillip Simpson, Patrick Simpson, Raymond Dunning, Matt Keller, Jake Yost, Kevin Ward and numerous others have benefitted from the TWF summer program. 2. Week long raining camp with Coach Brands. 3. Two week life experience with camp and travel. 4. The largest wrestling tournament event in the world. 4300 wrestlers, 8600 matches, 5 styles, 24 mats on an indoor football field. McKenzie Arena feels like a high school gym after having been in that venue. 5. The mosquitos are the friendliest in the world. Without asking they come right up to you and get acquainted. 6. Terry Brands wants his recruits to be active in Freestyle wrestling. 7. Most if not all of the bigtime college coaches are in attendance for recruiting purposes. When would you see Bobby Douglas, John Smith, Jim Zalesky, J Robinson, Tom Ortiz, Greg Stroebel, Terry Brands, etc all in the same building looking for potential recruits for their programs. Oh, the DII and DIII coaches also are looking to fill their rosters and offer potential scholarships. Three years ago there was a wrestler, can't remember the state, who had no scholorship after his senior year. He made the finals in Fargo and a scholarship materialized at a DI school.

  9. As far as Scott v Marable goes, Scott had the edge in the state tourney last year. He had already had the experience of performing on such a large stage as the state finals and in that high pressure situation. To say the least, Marable has gained that experience in the finals last year and in Fargo, 24 mats on a football field and wrestling for a national championship. Yeah yeah, I know that Scott also was in Fargo, but the finals is a different story. Both Marabel and Scott have worked hard to improve their wrestling over the spring and summer the last couple of years. Yeah yeah, I know Marabale's win was in Cadets and some people will try to discount that. They are sadly mistaken that it takes anything away from the level he had to wrestle to accomplish that goal. All I know is that will be one incredible matchup of it they are in the same weight class. The only time it can happen is at state duals or state.

  11. What about Bashara Robinson of Westside at 275? Some preseason polls had him ranked very high. Is he around this year?
  12. Borneman of Houston is at 152 this year. He just won the Black Horse Inv with a tough victory over a Brother Martin wrestler.
  13. Dragonwrestler quote "where the official began counting backpoints with less than 3 seconds in the match and the buzzer sounded almost immediately after he had 2 seconds counted, my opponent was awarded 2 backpoints for a 3 count that never happened." Dragonwrestler, you stated the referee reached a two count but never got to a three count for the nearfall, but the other wrestler was awarded two back points anyway. The rule is that it only takes a two count to get two nearfall and a five count to get three nearfall. The call was correct. I know that you are only a wrestler frustrated about a call, but please learn the rules of the game before criticizing referees who are doing their best. After you graduate I'm sure that we would all be more than happy if you put on the zebra stripes and gave it a try. If that is not soon enough for you, I invite you to try officiating freestyle in the spring. You should know who I am and where to find me.
