1. i know everyone is going to get on here and agree to disagree w/why so and so should / shouldnt be on the team.....but how do you leave off a kid who had 12 picks and returned at least 5 of them for TD's???? Brian Sommers of Alcoa left off??? is it because he's only a sophmore? fishy........

  2. have any of you stopped to think that maybe alcoa was using the "3 dives and a punt" tactic, but they were just that much better than GP tonight that it didnt work? from what i've heard, they didnt hardly get a chance to make it to the "2nd dive", let alone a 3rd and punt! alcoa was just that much better tonight, and you cant blame a kid for wanting to score a touchdown, regardless of the circumstances. if it were you kid out there doing the exact same thing you wouldnt have a problem w/it!

  3. And though Khemikal effectively responded to this earlier, it's only fair to point out a few things in favor of Townsend.

First, and most significantly, when J C Campbell, now entering his hundred-and-thirtieth season at Hampton, says that a Runningback is "something special," then, by gosh, that Runningback is something special.

Secondly, this kid has how many carries? Thirty-something? Do the math; this guy can carry the mail, no matter where he's delivering. He could easily have over a thousand by now.

who is he playing against? the memphis microwaves? give me a break. NE Tn football is a complete joke minus Dobyns Bennett!

  4. I agree.  Alcoa is that good, but a good Fulton team would have done better, they were that bad, i would say are, but they just need to find a QB, i don't see them winning state this year, Good job alcoa.

Fulton did play terrible, but Alcoa didn't look that great!! They got off to a slow start and Kyrus needs to learn how to block without holding!! They can only improve as the weeks go on!! Good job Alcoa!!

  5. Congratz to Alcoa.  They did beat another losing team mthough.  Fulton is not very good this year and yes, 3A is not too huge, but I think things like this are cyclical.  I don't see anything in 2A, east but Alcoa this year.  Still don't buy into all the hype but a good 2A team none the less.  Tired of reading the could'a, would 'a BW excuse for the first loss Alcoa had.

I think Alcoa is in for a test the next two weeks but think they will win them both to add to the win box.

I respect Maryville and everything, but you need to to stop talking about them like they are Gods!! I admit that they beat Alcoa and it didn't surprise me. The way Alcoa played surprised me, but not the outcome!! Seems like the Rebs have only beat losing teams too so far (except Alcoa)!! You don't have to buy into all the hype, because if all the attention was toward the Rebs you'd think otherwise!! Good luck to them though!!!

  6. I happened to get into a debate with a friend who was dead set that Alcoa had beaten WB almost every year since 98 and I told him, that as much as it hurt, that he was wrong.  I know WB beat Alcoa several years in a row and that the last win for WB was when Phelps was the coach in 03 and Alcoa got the victory last year.  Do any of you have for certain the outcomes from 98 till the present and who was at the helm for the Govs in each of those seasons?

    Go ALCOA (- Warren)

WB-95,96,97,98,99,02, I'm not sure about 02 but the rest seems right! thumb

  7. Sykes is a good player with a developing body and I agree he is a factor, but like Papa just said these teams on Defense are about the same as last year.

The faces may be the same on defense, but Alcoa is more physical then they were last year based on what I've seen so far!! I'm just ready to kick this game off and get down to business!! Once again, good luck to both teams!! thumb

  8.   and how about dustin lindseys stunning performance of...less than 100 yards rushing, man what an amazing runningback...no.

    825721469

I bet if you were to ask dustin which he would rather have, 200 yards rushing a game and no state title, OR 80 yards rushing a game with a state title, he would say 80 yards and a title. That's the type of kid he is, unselfish. he'd rather win w/o the godly numbers. if the numbers come then that's great, but i can garuntee you that he would rather have another championship w/a 1,000 yard season.....scouts already know what he can do, he doesnt have to prove it w/numbers.

  9. i was at the game, horrible drive, horrible hospitality.

a few things that just blew my mind:

    1) making the Alcoa players take their gloves off and not the Hoptown players? who what when where and why does it say that gloves are illegal for one team and not another?

    2) everytime (minus 3 or 4 big plays) that alcoa broke it for over 20 yards, there was a flag thrown and the play was brought back (Shiverdecker would have had over 200 yards and 3 TD's had his plays not been brought back)

    3) the refs called clipping on the defense???

    4) the "fighting" situation, which was not a fight by any means. The Hoptown kid was choking warren around the neck, warren smacked his hands away from his throat. not a punch by any means.

if warren's "ejection" is upheld, then the TSSAA needs to find some new governing bodies to take over. It's already a big wash as it is. Warren is a good kid (know him personally) and would do nothing of the sorts to jepordize himself, his team, or his ride to FSU.

And p9, for someone who wasnt at the game, you should get your facts together before rattling off at the mouth calling a HS kid a selfish idiot!

  10. And I'm not saying that Brad was as fast as Rainer, BUT  consider his (Brad's) 11.4 ... that is not his personal best but even at that, do you know how fast one would have to run to beat an 11.4 by 3 or 4 steps in the 100 ?!?  You're basically saying that Rainer could run a 100 in around 8 seconds.  I don't believe he is quite that fast.  You may have thought you were dealing with an old guy who doesn't understand track and sprints and distances and timing ... sorry, I do.

    825719242

Hahaha, you must not know anything about track sir!! If he ran an 11.4 and Rainer ran a 10.4 then that would be way more than 3 or 4 steps!! Rainer could even run a 10.8 or 10.9 and win by that much!! I don't know where you got your info, but you need to recheck it!!
