  1. I know Powell has a very good team, and I for one am looking forward to next week's match up at Powell as the Anderson County Mavericks come over the hill.  Last season , it came down to the last play of the game, and both teams return basically their whole team from last season.  I know Powell got a huge pick up on the DL, so with that being said they have an advantage there.  However, I think any Powell fan will agree that this was the best game they saw last season, and  I can't wait to watch this one .   Potts and Martinez will put on a show for sure.  They are good friends as I understand having competed against each other on the 7v7 circuits, and are very familiar with the personnel  on both teams.  I know Powell has some great receivers with offers from everywhere, but they were same group that lined up against the same group of corners that AC had last season, so that should be another great game inside the game to watch.  I know AC  has thrown the ball all winter, so they should be very efficient at that.  Gavin Noe is a bruising 220 pound back that can move.  He will be another part of the game that fans will be watching.  Powell should open all the parking they have next Friday as I would expect a Giant crowd to come see this game.  I look for this to be the game of the night next Friday.  I am not picking scores, but I am saying this game may be one you won't want to miss.

  2. I sure did enjoy watching the AC and Dobbyns Bennett Scrimmage Friday night.  I got to meet and talk with a few DB fans.  They were amazed at the Jumbotron and the sideline live camera shots that were being played during the game.  DB started off strong with a good run game behind some big offensive lineman.  AC got it figured out after that, and put a stop to the run game.  The Indians seemed to struggle throwing the ball, but I bet that's not in their wheelhouse.  AC quickly caught fire on offense throwing the ball, and it went up and down the field on DB.   AC was able to get their All State Back involved as well, and the OL opened some holes for him and he made some very nice runs.    DB will be fine as the season goes, they have a good team with some good coaching.  Good to see all the folks that made the drive to AC, and we wish yall the best of luck this season.

  3. You said it,DB looked the part, they had skill players and big OL/DL kids.  I saw them getting off the 3 busses they brought, and thought they had brought an army.  The JV freshman players headed to the top field and Varsity stayed on the game field.  I thought this was great because all the kids got to play and parents got to see their kids play instead of standing on the sideline waiting for the JV period.  The Mavs took control early running the football.  Gavin Noe was very hard to get down.  The OL had to be commended again for moving the Kingsport DL and creating lanes for Noe and Moog.  Martinez had another really good day. he completed passes to Vowell, Miller, Terry, Russell, Shannon, Braden, Davis, Phillips, and Zeke West.  West had been kind of quiet the last scrimmage, but really came on tonight. He is another 6'2 receiver that made some very athletic catches, and took one right between the safeties breaking two tackles for a 60 yard touchdown.   Defensively, the Mavericks just shut the run game down, and 36 had a pick 6 early to set the tone for the game.  The Mavericks rotated secondary players every other series, and Miller and Terry were lock down at the corner position. I don't remember DB completing a pass on the outsides.    My count was 6-1 Mavs, but it was a scrimmage, and I am sure there are folks who don't put stock in scrimmages just like they don't put stock in 7v7.  Both are valuable, and the 7v7 definitely has helped the Mavs throw the football more efficiently this summer.  I was surprised to see the run game go like it did tonight. I think everyone knows the Mavs can throw the football, and I can go ahead and make a press release that they can run the football as well.  Noe and Moog are a tough duo. They aren't gonna out run ya to the endzone, but you won't want to tackle either of them over and over again.  The both have to weigh 220 , and just seem to get vertical when they run.   DB has players, and a great staff that will get them right as they enter their season. They are a powerhouse and I think they will do well as they get into their season.  The Mavericks were just too much for them tonight.  Great crowd for a scrimmage, the live camera shots on the Megatron were spectacular, with a sideline cam and a camera up top playing the game live on the big screen.  We all know what is waiting across the hill at Powell, but I can't wait to watch. It was a barn burner last season, and I expect nothing short of that again this season.

  4. The scrimmage starts at 5:30 Friday.  DB has a long way to travel and so the scrimmage time was moved up to 5:30.  The Mavs traveled to Stone Memorial Tuesday.  I wasn't able to attend, but after talking with those that did attend, it sounded like the Mavericks had their way again on offense and defense.  The did not use the ten play format that many early scrimmages use.  It was down and distance from the start.  Martinez put on a light show throwing balls to 8 different receivers.  Gavin Noe and Moog split time at the RB position, and both ran the ball well as I understand.  The Maverick first team got 4 possessions and drove the 80 yards each time to score.  Defensively, the Mavericks did not allow a score in four drives with the first team on the field.  The kicker punched all 4 FGs through.  The Mavs used the rest of the day to get their JV and Freshman in the game.  They scored 3 and allowed 2 with that group on 4 possessions.  There will be a bigger test on Friday at Maverick stadium as DB rolls into town.  I look forward to a big night, and hopefully no injuries.

  5. The Tribe travels to Anderson County Friday, I am already chomping at the bit to watch it.  It will be the first meeting of these two teams that I know of.  Anderson County's Offense is their strength, but as I watched practice this week, I saw the defense fly around and bring a lot of energy.  I counted almost 90 players out for the Mavs Thursday night, so the depth shouldn't be an issue with a 6A DB team.  I know the Mavericks are looking forward to having a BIG crowd at the game, and they will be debuting their new Megatron.  I am told they have a 20 foot tall Longhorn being made for the top and that it will be piped with the smoke and led lighting system to light it up .  DB fans , take I75 north to exit 122, and exit left.  We will look forward to seeing you Friday.

  6. I went up to see practice last night, and the Mavs must have given them the night off. I was able to see practice one night this week.  It was full of energy even near the 9:45 mark.  The team was flying around and having fun. You could hear the coaches and the players encouraging each other and the energy they were creating was electric.  I counted 89 players and saw the Mavs 2 platooning the 4 and 5 wide receivers.  Martinez was on again, and the offense and defense got after it.  Noe ran the ball hard and it was great to see Moog back running the ball as well.  Vowell , Terry,  Shannon, Davis, 3, 5, 1, 6, 7 and a new rec , 28 all were involved in catching the laser show that Martinez put on.  Offensive line is a question on everyone's mind, but they look Big and they move pretty well.  We will see when they travel Tuesday and they have to block someone else.   I won't make it to Stone Tuesday, but will be ready to see the Mavs host 6A Kingsport DB Friday.  I hope it is game type scrimmage, and I look forward to seeing the 2021 team take the field.  The Defense took the next session and it got loud and the players got after each other.  The one on one session was fun to watch from the stands.  It got the dads out of their chairbacks as both sides got after it.  I won't make predictions, but I watched this team and they strike each other in practice.  They are fast and run very good routes. The defense always seems to give opposing teams trouble.   I am excited to see the kicking game in the scrimmages as I understand the kickers are working at different times, with a kicking coach.  Yall come out and let's have a big crowd to welcome Upper East Tennessee to AC.  I think it will the only time they have ever lined up.  I have been watching Maverick Football for over 30 years, and I can't remember seeing this many kids who can run and play the game as they have right now.  We have had some talented teams, but this one is DEEP.

  7. Mavs traveled to Hardin Valley Tuesday for 7v7.  I watched about the first 45 minutes and Martinez completed all but three balls.  The Mavs hit from all over the field and scored at will with their rotating  group of receivers.  The real fun was watching the guys up front battle with a tug a war and tire flip contest.  I know none of this has anything to do with putting the pads on and getting after it, but it was fun to watch.  With that being said , I got to slip out of work for a few and watch practice in helmet and shoulder pads on Wednesday and the Mavs came out and did what they seem to always do.  The Bigs went got some great work with one on ones and picking up blitzes, and Martinez and Co went on the other end and put on a passing exhibition for about and hour.  Noe looks huge, he runs like a tank, Shannon has added a few pounds and will be an issue for opposing offensive and defensive coordinators.  They had some length on the field at receiver with Vowell leading the way and 1, 3, 30,34 all making big targets for Martinez.  Terry, 5,6, are smaller quicker receivers who catch balls and turn them into first downs and bigger plays with their feet.  Defensively, I got to see Nelson and DL get some work.  The Mavs look to be big and athletic in the front 7, and seem to have the same group they had last season in the back end of the defense which held up well last season.  I saw a few new players that I didn't know, and I will excited to see who they are.  I will be around next week some to see how the first week in full gear goes. I am not sure I can get to Stone Memorial for the scrimmage but will be at the DB scrimmage to watch .

  8. Mavs had  their youth camp this week. It is Full Pad, and always well attended.  I  have been coming to camps there for over 20 years, mostly to watch my kids go , and I think this was the biggest one I have ever seen.   The coaches do a great job with the drills and use the players to bring the energy.  This year , they had the new Jumbo Tron turned on and it is a WOW.  They have made some great videos from the past and pieced them together with the music to hi-light the former teams.  I watched the Mavs finish the 7v7 season with Hardin Valley on Tuesday.  HVA doesn't throw the ball a lot , so it really isn't their wheelhouse. Martinez was as good as billed. He threw to at least 8 different receivers, but the defensive line was the show.  They did some big man drills with HVA, and the Mavs  controlled that from start to stop as well.  I know it gets different when you get pads on  and the one on one blocking changes to pulling guards and trap blocks, but the Maverick Defensive line won every one on one rep that I watched. It was good to see the big guys getting some reps, not just the 7v7.  The Mavs went with Farragut Thursday, and again Farragut had no answer for the Mavs Passing game. Farragut has some good players but the Mavs were running wild and Martinez was throwing darts the entire time.  Farragut has good looking tall players, and some good size at linebacker, but the Maverick receivers were running open almost the entire 2 hour period.  The Mavs put the shoulder pads on Wednesday and scrimmage the following week at Stone Memorial before welcoming 6A Powerhouse Kingsport DB to Maverickland for the first time ever.  That may be a regular season atmosphere for DB and AC.  I expect a full house for that scrimmage.   Let's Put the Pads On Finally.

  9. It has been a busy couple of days for the Mavericks.  They went to Chattanooga Saturday and won the Scenic City 7v7 .  I didn't get to make it ,but I heard they competed well against teams from 5 states.  Walker Martinez put on a show and got some attention from the UTC coaching staff I heard.  He has a lot of targets with Vowell, Terry, Russell, Miller, Shannon, and Phillips.  The RB's, Noe and Moog were impressive out of the back field as well.  I made it over to Farragut today to watch the Mavs go with the Admirals, TKA and Central.  I can report that the Mavericks had another great day.  I sat with some Farragut fans, and they were very impressed with the passing game displayed by the Mavericks.  Coach Gillum was in Regular season coaching mode calling plays and it seemed as though the Mavs moved the ball extremely well. I don't like the format where you bring the ball back to the LOS every-time, but it was what they did. It really just gave AC room to expand the zones and throw it in windows.   Farragut has a ton of kids, as did Central, and both had good days. The thing I noticed today was the defense.  The LB's are big and athletic, and the secondary for the Mavericks was on point today throughout the entire scrimmage. Corners aren't big, but played very aggressive and made receivers work to even get open, and separated the ball from the receiver on more than a few plays. Look for Farragut and Central to have a good year. They have athletes and good coaches.  TKA looked super young to me, may not have had all of their players.

  10. The Mavericks turned on the "MegaTron" the other day.  It is impressive.  They are waiting on the top piece and the side ad panels to come in as I understand.  It will be a nice addition to the Friday Night Madness this season. Looks like Mavericks Shannon, Davis, Sexton and Martinez are all at ETSU camp today.  They were at MTSU camping Friday.  Noe is in the Big Blue state camping at Kentucky today.  Kickers were at Tennessee today I saw.  Coach G says he is as excited about this team as any he has had. Judging by the turnout at the spring game, the Maverick Faithful are too.

  11. Maverick Fans got to watch Anderson County's CodeBlue 7v7 team win  the Battle of the BullRing Tourney this weekend.  They went undefeated on the day with some very talented East Tennessee teams. This looks to be another very talented group of skill players that went 2 deep.  I saw CodeBlue run two huddle  sets of skill players most of the tourney rotating every play.  Martinez was as good as I have seen him.  Defensively, the corners were just tenacious giving up nothing easy.   I know some will say 7v7 isn't football, but it is very good competition and the Mavericks got plenty of that from Bobby Maze new team who had kids from all over the East Tennessee area. The BlackHeart team from Knoxville was very talented as well as the ETE team who I have seen a few times. I recognized some of the names from the different teams, and there was a ton of talent on the field.   I may be wrong, but this is another very talented team and we are all very excited to see them play this season with full crowds. The AD posted a picture of a HUGE jumbotron this week, and the the framing and poles are in the ground, and ready for the board to deliver.  It is rumored to be the biggest in East Tennessee.  The Maverick boosters really stepped up on this one, and it should be a great addition to the wild and crazy Friday night atmosphere we already have.   I will post some pictures as soon as the board is hung up.

  12. DJ, Good observation.  52, 54, 55, and 58 were all really good football players for the Mavs, I will agree with you there.  You know our program well enough to know that we lose really good players every year.  Those guys will be missed, but they generally played half a game if that during the last season as the Mavs ran rough shod on the region last season.  I will agree that may have hurt them when they had to play a whole game against South Doyle and Greeneville, but hats off to those two teams for finding last play touchdowns to win those games.  The Mavs are never low on big OL kids, (Sexton, Bulluck, Davis, Nelson, Mays, Noe, Cain, and Caylor all got Friday night snaps) , and Coach GIllum will have them ready.  Qb, Martinez hasn't had to be a runner.  He sits in the pocket and throws dimes most of the time.  My guys tell me he has worked extremely hard this off season with Coach Gillum to improve his pocket awareness and ability to move in the pocket.  Coach Gillum has had some very good QB play the last 10 years, and this will be no different.  This year, Coach Gillum, will have the Noe and Moog, both 200+ pound wrecking balls to run the football as well.  He has three BIG TE body kids, and I would look for them to use them as well.  Everyone loses great players each year, and I think the Mavs will be fine up front, and that Coach Gillum will continue to have a high powered offense.

  13. Anderson County 7v7 team, Code Blue headed to Orlando this weekend for a National Tourney.  They have been on a tear through the 7v7 the last couple years, and will make the trip down 75 into gator country for some great  competition.  Mav Fans, look for updated information on their results on the AD's twitter feed. The Maverick AD will be in attendance I am told.  Spring practice dates will begin the first week of May.

  14. 2021 Mavericks are loaded and ready for a playoff run again.  They return the QB, who took over after week 4 I think.  Sophomore Martinez threw it all over the field and gave the Mavericks a chance at the end of the second round game with Greeneville.  He has been on the big game stage , and it won't be his first rodeo when the Mavericks open up with top ranked Powell to kick off the season.  All State Sophomore RB Gavin Noe will be right beside him bigger and stronger than last season. Martinez has several receivers back from last season including Zach Shannon, always dangerous Bryson Vowell, Terry, Davis, Russell, Williams, Miller,Braden, Phillips and many others who ran rough shot over their opponents last season.   Up front, they bring back Sexton, Cain, Caylor, Nelson, just to name few.   Defensively,  the Mavs will bring back Anthony White, who missed most of last season with injury.  He is huge, and ready for a breakout year.  Terry , Thor Williams and Tate Russell will be back with all the experience from last season in the secondary along with the Miller kid and Braden.  Eli Nelson made a huge impact last season as a freshman DT, and should be ready for another big year. They are fast, athletic and have had a great off season.  I watched a few cuts of the 7v7 this winter and they have been tearing it up, winning in some big tourneys. Kicking game is solid, even with losing Bethel to the SEC.   AD says the Mavs Coaching staff stays in tact again for the 8th or 9th year in a row.  Construction site near the visitor sideline has the indicator of a massive Jumbotron.  It will fit perfect with the fireworks, dancing LED light show, and Live Bulls.  I know Greeneville and Elizabethton will have their teams back as well, and this Maverick Fan is excited for those games again.

AC would be 1 or 2, but I heard they were getting hit with a post-season ban after being turned in for actively recruiting Halls-zoned players. Anyone else heard anything? Been going on up there for a long time, from what I've been told.

Fake News Corry, good try though.  AC is loaded again with skill , we will see if they can do anything with it.  They have been in Chattanooga, and have won big there.  East Hamilton and East Ridge will give most 4-A teams fits, and just because AC won big,  people said AC wasn't playing anyone.   The Chattanooga region has some good football and you will see it now that AC is out of their region.   AC has been good, not good enough to beat Greeneville, and only Elizabethton has pulled that off.  AC  lost to SD by one point on the last play of the game after being up by 14 for most of the game.  Fulton, Gibbs Carter all good teams and this will be a competitive region.  Don't think AC won't be the favor to win this region, and don't think they will be down talent wise or you will be in for a shock.  AC has a returning QB, RB and all the skill a coach could want.  They will be a team that can roll in skill players throughout the game and wear teams down.  They have maybe the best 4 linebackers in the area.  Most started as sophomores last season, and all return.  The Mavs have some work up front to do, but I can assure you they will find some guys up front to take care of that.  They have zero halls players, and aren't under any post season ban. lol  Go Mavs

Had to go back and get a refresher, you are correct.  79 games,  I thought we had won 4 in 15 and 16, but when I went back and looked it was 3 win seasons.  Those were tough ones for the Mavericks.  Great kids, just didn't get a break.

don johnson comes in from Miami throwing barbs.  Our kids like to work, and I can't fault them or their parents for that.   I am just cheering my team and our kids on here on this thread, not tearing down anyone's team, just reporting what I see.  Too bad trolls like you have negative things to say.  Here's an idea, go to your teams thread and say something good about those kids instead of being on my thread for our fans. If you don't like Anderson County, stay off the thread.

  20. Watched some practice  from the top this week a couple of days, and saw some really positive things from the Mavericks.   As I stated before, the Mavericks look to have a huge team, around 80 as I counted on both days.  Offensively, the offensive line looked big, Max is around 6'4, Big Goins is around the 6'3 mark as well, and then looking inside, I saw the three starters, Sexton, Workman and Shipley from last season anchoring it down.  As they usually do,  Hatmaker and Martinez were throwing balls all over the field.  Defensively, the defensive line was anchored by Lindsey, who I know will have a huge year.  The line backers are two deep across the board with returning starters Noe, Cummins, Eli Davis, and a big athletic LB who I think is Shannon.  The Brock kid looked thick and was running well.  The secondary is intact with Thomas, JMiller, WIlliams, Terry, and White.  I do see some young guys like BMiller, Russell, West, and Vowell out there because they are all over 6'and seem very athletic. Coaches were moving them around and getting great looks from the young guys.   Three kickers getting work, seems like they have one for almost each class.  They have never had three kickers.  As we head into the dead period with a head full of steam, I am hoping all of our kids have a safe break and come back as hungry as they looked last week.   I am sure I missed some folks, but I will be sure to get back up there soon to see how this team is progressing.  Go Mavs

  21. Mavericks have had two solid weeks back together.  The coaches seem to be very excited about this team.  I read on @5starpreps that Coach Gillum stated exactly what I was talking about this winter.  The team is very talented and deep with skill players.  The 5 Star Kicker/Punter was bringing the rain the other day when I saw him punting.   Coach GIllum usually will be reserve in his expectations about his team, but in the interview, he seemed very confidant about his team this season, and how he was impressed with how well his team came back from the break.  I hear they have 90 kids out for football, which is a little more than they normally carry.  I would expect a few more once school starts.  The strength coach is posting vidoes of the team each day lifting, they are moving some weight, and the team looks as good as they have.  I am excited, and know the folks all over the community are excited about this season.  Let's hope we can all stay healthy and get this season started.

I can assure the Mavericks will have a great season, and it will begin on August 21 at home. This team is loaded.   If you can come by the following week,  the 21 years shirts will be on sale.  Don't  wait and don't take it personal, it's a great shirt and sells out in a week.

Well done Donovan.  That is a very good list, and as I look at the other classifications, they all reflect relatively similar numbers for wins.  I like the six classes, even though the team I cheer for has to travel to Chattanooga area 3 times a year.  I know the kids love it as they get to get out of school early on a Friday and ride a huge bus to Chattanooga and play teams from another area.  I know everyone likes the 5 class system, and that is fine also, as my team did well there as well, but I do like to go against some fresh opponents , and the travel to Chattanooga has been good for me.

  24. Like I said, you are a Liar, and you continue to tell lies. Thanks for the info on the pandemic, who knew . Seriously though, Get off the AC thread with your lies, and get your own thread,  this was an information page for AC fans, not trolls who lie.   I can't get on here everyday and get in a coach t battle with you, I work.  However, I do have time today to let you know I  did see the principal and talked to him ,  and he told me neither the whole team nor the full coaching staff as you stated above were  at Cove Lake, and that no tssaa rules were broken.   Yes, there were kids there, and yes they were throwing the ball around the state park. As far as 20 years in a row, it absolutely is 20 years in a row.  Now, If we said 20 games in row, that wouldn't be the truth and would fit in with how you talk, a lie.  However, check the back of those shirts, they have been printing them for 10 years, so they should be easy to find, it is 20 straight years in a row.  That is the problem with your AD and you, all you care about is what AC is doing.  Here's an idea, focus on your team, and you might win few games. Yall focus on AC and all that they have done, and you will keep celebrating 2-8 seasons.   No football coach at AC cares about what was going on at clinton in the spring.  Could have been parents, but not a coach.   The waterboy comment was funny, you talk big, and I'll say it again, you sir and I use the term sir loosely, are a liar.  Second Baptist Church has cameras also, and I think if we checked the back playing area that we might see some of the clinton players on campus during the pandemic also throwing a ball around.  Thank the lord, none of those kids got sick.   Noone from AC came flying down to take video of that, because they don't care.   Don't get your feelings hurt,  I don't talk big, I just say the truth.  If you don't like it , go to another thread.  Like I said above, chs needs to worry about their own school, they have plenty to do other than chase down what AC is printing on a shirt.  I hope you buy a ticket to the show August 21, the beatings will continue, and so will the shirts. You can get one at the concession stand so that you can read all the 20 game scores on the back.
