1. Yes, that "Middle School defense" you talked about earlier did make Lake County look pretty bad.   :thumb:

Congratulations to the Tornadoes - players and coaches! Keep it up BK. Nate is playing well, huh?!? Not bad for a guy who hasn't played football in a few years. Obviously, you guys on the line a blowing open some pretty good running lanes.

I think Westview proved how good they are Friday night by beating Huntingdon - a team that's been to the 2A finals the last two years. So, the answer to the question that followed week one (Is Westview that good or is UC that bad?) has been answered. Westview is an elite team in 2A and UC is one their way to being one of 1A's top teams.

    Good luck against Milan!

  2. UC is a contender, but has to handle the foes in their region (Lake County, West Carroll, McKenzie, Bruceton) before thinking about a state title. Plus, there are some very bumpy roads to a 1A crown this year - JCS, Trousdale Co and a few others. It's not a cake walk by any means.

Good luck to Coach Fishel and the Tornadoes tonight against Westview and all season!

  3. No, I think you're underestimating it.  It wasn't a mistake, it was assault and battery.  He went after two different cameramen.  What were they doing wrong?  Randy Johnson's was different, they were blocking his way as he was trying to walk down the sidewalk.  Rogers went out of his way to go after these two guys.  Also, Johnson didn't twist a 20-pound camera around, causing arm and back injuries.

I think 20 games is about right, IF it's without pay.

Selig is the second-worst commissioner in all of sports.  Gary Bettman is, without doubt, the worst.

I've been away too long...Opperman and I are in total agreement!

  5. Sportsradio:

Who do you think will come out of the tournament?

Also would you rank the teams going into the tournament and then rank them coming out of the tournament? thumb

    825659127

Well to start the tournament I would have ranked the teams this way:

    1. Dyer County

    1. Union City

    3. Crockett County

    3. Westview

    5. Gibson County

    6. Obion County Central

Upsets always happen in a tournament and one did occur on the first day with OC beating UC.

Now, the question is which teams will move on?!?

I still pick Dyer County to be in the region...the second pick is tough. I want to say UC - they have a tough road ahead of them having to win 3 games in the four days...I believe they can do it. After all, I've coached most of those kids and have seen them come out the loser's bracket before.

If not UC, it wouldn't surprise me to see Crockett & Dyer Counties in the finals...but, Westview is my pick. The Chargers have just a bit more pitching than Crockett County. Plus, a solid shortstop in Belote and excellent speed with Guy.

    Other intangibles:

Obion County Central has my congratulations for the 1st round win over UC, but I am concerned about their pitching depth in a tournament. The key for them though, they're playing on their field...John Buchanan's Rebels always play well on their home turf.

Gibson County has impressed me this season with some of their victories and Chris Messer deserves a pat on the back for moving that squad in the right direction. But, and there's always a but, I have concerns about their offense and defense. The pitching ranks up there with everyone's in the district.

  6. Mike Shannon is great.

And I was just channel surfing one night and heard John Miller - didn't even notice he was doing the Giants...    so much baseball to listen to on XM  (Braves 3, Marlins 0 in the seventh)

I grew up with a grandpa who loved his Braves (Milo Hamilton) and a dad who loved his Cardinals (Dizzy Dean, Harry Carey)

    825665076

Dizzy Dean used to drive the teachers in St. Louis crazy because his use of the English language was so southern. "He slud into third..." things like that. Dizzy thought about quitting for awhile because he thought he was not setting a good example for young students, but the fans came to his defense and he stayed. A good ole boy from Arkansas, is still a favorite to discuss in St. Louis.

"Ain't nothing shakin but the leaves in the trees, and they wouldn't be shaking if there wasn't no breeze"

    "Go Crazy Folks"

    "I don't believe what I just saw"

"That's a winner!"  and so was he--miss you Jack.

    Amen!

  8. I was at the game and couldn't tell, so if any of you watched the Cards/Braves game Saturday, can you please tell me three things.

    1. Where did the ball hit Pujols?  Not saying it didn't, I just didn't catch it.

    2. Did the one pitch hit Chipper in the foot?

    3. Were the subsequent pitches to Chipper not strikes?

    825662615

    1. Pujols was hit in forearm region I believe.

    2. Yes, it hit him on the toe.

    3. Oh, yes, they looked like strikes. But, that's part of the game.

Great pitching from both squads throughout the weekend...both offenses shut down for the most part.
