  1. Yes that was a shocker. Didn't see that coming. Gallatin had been struggling lately. This doesn't change anything. The Hendersonville vs Beech game this Friday is for 2nd. Place in District. Mt. Juliet has top seed locked up with rivarly game at Wilson Central on Friday. I really do like the new format this year with the top 2 seeds hosting 2 games in first round. Mt. Juliet will host Portland in seed 1 vs seed 8. Lebanon will play Wilson Central in seed 4 vs seed 5 also at Mt. Juliet. Winner of Beech vs Hendersonville will be seed 2 and host the 2 other games. Gallatin will be seed 6 and Station Camp will be seed 7. Making more intertainment for the fans to watch 2 games instead of 1 and be able to see your opponent for the next round if you win. Should be a great tournament. Mt. Juliet is shooting for 5th straight District Tournament Crown. Just found out the Regional Tournament will be played at Rossview, unless all District 9 teams win first round matchups. In that case the Semifinals would be played at District 9 school. I'm assuming the host school would be Beech, Hendersonville, or Gallatin.
  2. I'd be careful with the phrase "by far best coach in Tennessee". If I'm not mistaken I believe Mt. Juliet has one of the best coaches in the State. AND I believe he has a winning record against Bud. AND Bud has "NEVER" beaten Mt. Juliet in the Cave. AND Mt. Juliet has a winning record against Wilson Central at their gym. IF Bud is "by far best coach in Tennessee" why does he have a losing record to Chris Fryer?
  3. LADY BEARS are head and shoulders the TOP TEAM. The other 7 teams will battle for second place. RETURN ENTIRE TEAM that started 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 1 junior last year. 1. Mt. Juliet 2. Beech 3. Lebanon 4. Wilson Cenrtal 5. Hendersonville 6. Station Camp 7. Gallatin 8. Station Camp
  4. I don't see any team in Class A better than Clarkrange. Not to be forgotten the upset bug has bitten some outstanding teams so far such as Marshall County, Oak Ridge, Wilson Central, and Jackson County (by Pickett Co.). But Clarkrange is so talented and so deep. I just can't see them losing to Pickett Co. I'm still amazed they beat Jackson County. Guess one team plays over their head and another plays under their ability thats a recipie for an upset. I look for Clarkrange to be holding that gold ball in Murfreesboro.
  5. any details on the game? I saw LaVergne play Wilson Central last week in the district semis and I thought LaVergne gave that game away. Just a thought here.... BUT do you think its fair to have to perhaps beat the same team as many as 3 times in the tournaments to win a State Championship? I know its happened a couple of times. Most recently last year Jackson County beat Clarkrange to win the Class A Championship. Several years ago Jackson County had beaten Livingston 3 of 4 times only to lose the Class AA State Championship game. Its my opinion that only the TOP 2 teams should advance out of the districts and I believe only the Champion of the Region should advance and eliminate the Sub-State (Sectionals) and just take the 8 Region Champions to the State Tournament.
  6. Is it my imagination or is the officating getting worse each year? It amazes me to see some of the "no" calls and some of the calls these guys make. I want to believe they don't care who wins and who loses but sometimes I wonder. I would just like to say Coach Fryer did an INCREDIBLE JOB coaching this season. How many coaches could LOSE "4" 2-year starters and replace them with 2 Freshman and 2 Sophomores and finish with 20 plus wins? And finishing in 2nd. Place in argueably the STRONGEST District in the state. Lady Bears went 1-3 in tournaments. And 2 of the loses went down to the wire. Thats the breaks. Looking at the this season I would have taken 15 wins and been EXTASTIC so to win 23 games I am EXTREMELY HAPPY. With NO SENIORS on the team I think you will see Lady Bears back on top next year. And Williams is going to get better and better so BEWARE.
  7. Congraulations Lebanon on your victory over Wilson Central. This was NO FLUKE. Lebanon just plain and simple out played Central. Eli was incredible. Don't know how many points she ended up with but she was possessed. I was there and asked someone to pinch me because I thought I was dreaming. I didn't think Wilson Central took Lebanon seriously and lets face it playing a team 10-13 is hard not to take seriously HOWEVER after the way Lebanon played Mt. Juliet a couple weeks ago I became a believer and now I guess they have turned the corner. Look out District 7-AAA
  8. I believe Shelbyville won 2 State Championships before Insell arrived on the scene. 1964 and 1974, I agree Shelbyville had tradition for Girls Basketball but come on when Insell was there the Gym was already built. I agree he helped decorate the rafters with all those banners. Shelbyville fans got spoiled when Insell was there and they are having to realize that times have changed and Shelbyville does NOT have the dominate teams as they had under Insell. Burkey is a good coach but he is not in the same league Insell was. Shelbyville will stuggle with Lawrence County tonite. They may win and they may lose. Its a tossup. From what I saw against Wilson Central I didn't exactly see that pride and heart in the players. They looked intimiated to me.
  9. Here's the way I break it down CLASS A - Clarkrange Hands Down No Questions WILL WIN State Class A CLASS AA - Marshall County - very likely will win but it will have competition from Upperman, Gibson County, Martin Westview, and McMinn Central CLASS AAA - Is WIDE OPEN. I see Oak Ridge and Morristown West from the East. Cleveland and Riverdale from the Mid East. Wilson Central and Hillsboro from the Mid State and Memphis Central and Millington from the West. With these 8 teams it will be a GREAT TOURNAMENT. I'm leaning toward Wilson Central with Hassal.
  10. I'll be there at 5pm when the doors open.... Don't want to miss this one. Matter of fact I have only missed one MJ-WC contest since they began play. I'll say this Mt Juliet is far ahead of schedule. Starting 2 freshmen, 2 juniors, and 1 soph who would have thought they'd be 16-1. Losing 4 starters off last years team I thought this would be a rebuilding year. Going to be tough game for Lady Bears. Central has experience and current Miss Basketball thats headed to Univ. of Georgia. Guard play will be key for MJ. Going to have to hit some 3's. Brown needs to have a big game. Should be another CLASSIC. These 2 programs are 2 of the TOP in the STATE of Tennessee. Get Ready to rock and roll. Go Lady Bears
  11. Great field of teams I think Marshall County will edge out Smyrna and Mt. Juliet will get by Hickman County in the Semifinals. If that holds up the Championship game will pit 2 unbeatens. I think that would be a awesome matchup. Marshall County definetely has experince on their side and MJ will have their hands full. I have been pleasantly surprised at the sucess the Lady Bears have had so far. Losing 4 THREE YEAR STARTERS who would have thought they would have this kinda sucess. I Hope they can keep it up againt MC. Good Luck Lady Bears
  12. I saw Miss Hassel play as a freshman and she "nowhere" near the player Williams is. If I remember correctly Hassel only averaged around 10 or 12 points a game when she was a freshman. Lets compare Hassel as a freshman to what Williams is now. I think you'd have to give Williams a distinct advantage. Only time will tell. But I think the sky is the limit for Ciya. Go Lady Bears PS - In the Golden Bear Invitanional this weekend Wilson Central plays Hillsboro Sat. at 4:30. Mt. Juliet plays Hunters Lane at 7pm.
  13. Here's how it works. The teams playing in the finals will HOST first round games on Friday. The teams playing in the consulation games go on the road. District 9 Beech vs. Smyrna (3rd Place) Mt. Juliet vs. Wilson Central (Championship) District 10 Kenwood vs. Henry Co. (3rd Place) Clarksville NE vs. Dickson Co. (Championship) The winners of the Championship games host the loser of the 3rd Place games from the other District The losers of the Championship games host the winner of the 3rd Place games from the other District After the 1st Round games the winners advance to the semifinals to be played at Rossview. The winners of the semifinals play for the Championship. Both teams advance to the Sub State Go Lady Bears........ /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  14. IF Shelbyville is counting the loss to Cookevile WHY did the PA announcer when he introduced the starters stated Shelbyville's record was 19 wins and 5 losses? Want to explain that one for me? /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  15. I don't like to make excuses but its too bad Lady Bears didn't show up to play till the second quarter. Missed several easy shots, and too many FT's. Too many turnovers in the first quarter. Shelbyville jumped out early and Mt. Juliet made a run but just couldn't get over the hump. Britt Bell played the game of her life. She played like a seasoned senior. Miller did get some "questionable" fouls called that sent her to the bench for the entire 2nd quarter. I thought the press MJ put on Shelbyville gave them problems. I give Shelbyville credit. Played the better game and was the better team this time. Hopefully there will be a third game between the two at Murphy Center. Both have a difficult route. Smyrna, Wilson Central, and LaVergne are all strong. And I think Lawrence County has to get over the Shelbyville jinx eventually and District 7AAA has Cookeville and Riverdale that could make a run. I thought Cookeville beat Shelbyville earlier this year in a hall of fame game where the winner claims the win and the loser doesn't claim a loss. To me if you play the game you count it as a WIN or LOSS. But it don't work that way
  16. WHAT A GAME WHAT A CROWD WHAT ATMOSPHERE This is WITHOUT question "THE" best rivaly in the state of Tennessee. You have the two winningest teams in the state the past 4 years. 2 State Championships between them the past 3 years. The current AP Poll at MJ #4 and WC #6 AWESOME CROWD SUPPORT. The gym was packed a good 30 minutes before tipoff. I did think WC arriving at the game late was questionable. After the game started it was another CLASSIC. For the record MJ is (7-0) vs. WC at the cave. Thanks to the 4 seniors who were honored before the game. Becca, Heather, Jordan, and Taylor. I believe the PA announced their 4 years record was 112-15. Not to shabby. The home record is 43-1 now. I'll put that up against any group of seniors in the state. I did take note of Bud Brandon's actions after the game. After the game ended he grabbed his coat and went to the end of the WC bench and as he put his coat and put it on and I don't think he was too eager to shake hands with Fryer. But he did but I noticed he didn't look Fryer in the eye when he did shake his hand. Now for the COIN FLIP and TOURNAMENT TIME.... Goooooooooooo Lady Bears
  17. Just a thought. Haven't Shelbyville and Wilson Central played each other enough to know each other's tendenics? AND didn't Shelbville beat WC by 20 the last time they played? I think Mt. Juliet will want it more. And it is the final regular season game so I look for the Lady Bears to put out their best effort. Go Lady Bears
  18. BBPRIDE you are totally incorrect on MJ sportsmanship. I've been there when they lose and they always have lined up to greet the winning team. I could mention who I think has poor sportsmanship but I won't go there. As for tonights game I look for Lady Bears to press WC up and down the floor just like Shelbyville did and get the lead early and hold it and build on it and in the end take the Wild Kittens to the wood sheld by 15 points. Taylor Hall is going to be RED HOT from the arc and hit 5 THREE POINTERS. Mt. Juliet 66, Wilson Central 51 Get ready for the coin flip and GET ready for the District at the CAVE.
  19. I think Smyrna had a hangover from the big win over Wilson Central. Reguardless LaVergne is very capable team. Lost to Smyrna by 1 point in first meeting so not a total shock. LaVernge has talent and is dangerous. With the Smyrna loss it all but ends a hope of a 3 way tie and now if Mt. Juliet beats Wilson Central there will be a 2 way tie with a coin flip to determine who gets the first round bye. ALSO, this insures Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central will be in opposite brackets in the district to be held at the Cave.
  20. WELL WELL WELL LaVergne 54, Smyrna 52 There goes the 3 way tie possiblity. Now if Mt. Juliet beats Wilson Central it will be a 2 way tie. One thing is assured. Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central will be in opposite brackets in the district.
  21. You are very brave to make a statement like that....... /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Facts are Shelbyville is a good team. When they beat Wilson Cental I think its fair to say they played their best game of the year. On the other hand Wilson Central played their worst game of the year. I would say if the two teams were to play again I don't see either winning by double digits. Hillsboro is a dangerous team. To reach the State they will have to beat Wilson Central, Smyrna, or Mt. Juliet. If memory serves me correct hasn't Shelbyville lost in the Sub-State the last 2 times they played Cleveland. I don't think anyone would want to play at Cleveland in the Sub-State. Tourney time is approaching thats what its ALL ABOUT................... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  22. Relax everybody..... If its a 3 way tie the only fair way to handle it is a coin flip. Don't forget Smyrna still has a game left with LaVergne. Lady Bulldogs won the first time in a one point thriller so LaVergne could rock Smynra's boat. LaVergne is locked in as the #4 seed and would be in the same bracket with the #1 Seed. To me LaVergne has enough talent to hang with anybody. I was surprised Lady Bears beat them by 20 last week. Should MJ and WC tie for first there would still be a coin flip for seeding. By the way does anyone know where the Region will be played this year. I know its District 10 turn to be host so please, please, please don't let it be Henry County. That is totally unfair to the District 9 teams to travel that far. Two years ago Clarksville was the host. Anybody with information please post.
  23. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND I wouldn't be dusting off a place for the '08 Gold ball just yet if I was Shelbyville. I believe a matchup with Cleveland, Walker Valley, or Bradley Central would await in the Sub-state if the Eaglettes get that far. Not saying SC couldn't win but would be a tough way to earn your way to the state. Not to mention a balanced region with some revenge on their minds. Lawrence County is just chopping at the bit and didn't Cookeville beat Shelbyville earlier this season? Oh yeah and Riverdale is comming on also. Could be a rocky ride.
  24. Get a copy of the game tape and see for yourself..... OR Better yet get a copy of the Monday edition of the Lebanon Democrat.... Bud Brandon was quoted in the article saying "We took too many quick shots" "Never did work the ball and reserve it" "Several times we passed the ball once or twice and took a three point shot" I did make that statement and according to Bud I believe he confirms it. AND it was the fans seating around me that made the comment that WC had beaten Shelbyville 6 out of the past 7 games and had won earlier this year on Shelbyville's home court. BOTTOM LINE.... Shelbyville played close to a perfect game. Wilson Central played their worse game of the year.... That combination I think spells the result of the game. I think the guard play of Shelbyville was definetely the difference. They combined for 49 points. Maybe this is a wake up call.... Sometimes you read your press clips and you get to thinking how good you are and something like this happens to wake u up. Time will tell. And Smyrna is waiting in the wings.
