GDM, Joey did pitch for Jefferson County. He wasn't as crisp as I saw him at times last year. He gave up seven hits, five walks, but did pitch better late in the game, allowing only two hits in the last three innings. He made a couple of mistakes early and Rutledge made him pay, a two-run homer in the first inning, three-run homer in the second.
At the plate for JC, Belcher, Zach Long and Nick Sherrod all hit homeruns and went a combined 8-of-11 with 3 HR, 2 2b, seven RBIs and seven runs scored.
JC also was better than I thought they would be at the bottom of the order, 7-8-9-1 (Tyler Smith, Clark Paschual, Christian McFall and Will Brummett, all newcomers except Brummett who was bumped into the varsity starting lineup during tournament last year) went 5-of-9 with four walks four RBIs and four runs scored.
The thing about JC is Belcher and Sherrod are the only returning pitchers from last year. The JC offense should be able to put up runs, but all of the newcomers on the pitching staff are going to have to step up in a hurry with the way the conference games are being played this year. Gotta have good pitchers 3-4 deep at least.
