  1. I agree. Tee being in the game makes a D worry. He opens up the entire field and is a double threat to run or pass. Tonight's game should be enteresting. Unfortunately I will miss this one. I am stuck in LA with the TN Army National Gaurd waiting for Ike to slap Tina er uh Texas. This game should be close. The Vegas bookies shouldn't even put a line on this one. Flip a coin, your odds will be better! As for the comments last week about the radio stations, let me explain. I had worked for WCRK as a color man and sidleine reporter before that. I was deployed during the season last year. When I returned I was told I was not going to be allowed to returned to my position, even though my job was protected by federal law. I am letting people who get paid a whole lot of money take care of that issue. Last year WBGQ started running East Football and was given the endorsement from the school as the Official Voice of Hurricane Football. After being told I wasn't going to be allowed back in the booth by WCRK I expected to sit out this season from broadcasting. At noon before the Karns game, I was given a call by WBGQ to come and do the sideline job. I actually hesitated, but tok the job because all I wanted was to be a part of the broadcast of East football. It has been great getting back on the sideline with the kids and having the best seat in the house on Friday night. Fortunately, my new employer is more military freindly and I know I will have a job when I return from LA and my duties to the military. Sorry NOONESFOOL. I didn't mean to snub ya. I have been super busy since getting home and haven't had much of a chance to even log on to coacht. I am very lucky to even glance at it today. Hopefully I will be home for the G-ville game and will be able to catch up with you there.
  2. As I edit, you post. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> It was even better to be back doing the broadcast again, this year with the Official Voice of Hurricane Football, The Q 100.7. Albeit last minute, it was still great to be back on the field again.
  3. This week's game will be in the great metropolis of Jonesborogh. Crockett has been getting better over the past few years. They have turned into the Kentucky or Vanderbilt of the Five Rivers Confrence. They are a very beatable team, but if you don't show up to play hard or assume you have won just walking on the field, you may be in for a long night. Morristown East by 14. BTW......It was good to see Canefan friday night. It was even better to see Burke-Toney Field in the prestine condition it was in. It was much better than the scenery I had a year ago. The folks in Morristown deffinately have something to be proud of. Now if we can only get that pesky game clock to work!
  4. You're thinking like a wrestler and that's good. I follow your line of thinking. By the book, you can't pin someone outside the line. Furthermore, if you are looking for a "fresh" start you would get it by letting the defensive guy run out of bounds. In that case, the match would be stopped with you standing in the middle of the mat and REFTN or myself standing in the middle of the mat with you signaling for a technical violation, giving you a point, and starting you both on your feet (if the escape was awarded) or in the referee's position (depending on the situation). There are alot of variables there and way too numerous to mention. Worst case scenario, you break even on the points if the escape is awarded, with you staying on the mat and start on your feet. On the flip side of that, if your run out after him, and he was awarded the escape before running out of bounds, he gained a point on you because you chose to follow him (he gets 1 for the escape, you get 1 for him fleeing the mat, then he gets another for you fleeing the mat). Good rule of thumb, keep your but in the middle of the mat, wrestle aggressively and you don't have to worry about any of this. I didn't see the scenario that REFTN is refering to, but I can picture in my mind what he has called. You are correct, it's the offensive wrestler's job to pin his opponet. It is also the responsiblity of both wrestlers to make an honest attempt to stay within the ten foot circle. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. Here is the short answer.... It is the responsibility of both wrestlers to make an honest attempt to wrestle aggresively within the 10 foot circle. It is not the responsibility of either wrestler to keep your oponent on the mat. With the scenario provided by REFTN wrestler A runs out of bounds. Wrestler B does not attempt to stay on the mat and runs out behind him. By rule, both wrestlers have committed technical violations. As far as double stalling....both wrestlers are to wrestle aggresively to better thier position and score points. If neither wrestler is doing this.....they are both stalling and should be called for it. We have all seen wrestler who are tanked at the end in the neutral position tie up and look as if they were in an all night dance competition back in the 50's. (I wasn't there for that but have seen the films.) REFTN and Clint you can probably back me up on this or correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. I couldn't resist this...... I ran this match through on several different items..... First a government computer... The government computer is purchased by the lowest bidder and ultimately showed Bradley Co as the winner because the money spent on the computer was to great for anyone to afford the tuition to attend Baylor. With Windows XP.......the match was given to Baylor because it was a stable operating system and Shacck's pants didn't clash with the wallpaper on the desktop. With Windows Vista the enitre system crashed because no software was compatible to run anything as "complicated" as a wrestling tournament program and it ended in a tie. There was no coin flip because too much money was spent trying to fix all the bugs that Windows XP had inflicted on my computer! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  7. Let me address this by first saying that I have been officiating for what would have been my 17th season this year had I not been deployed to South West Asia. In my time as an official, I have seen big strides made by the local assigning associations and the state to better prepare officials to do their job, from increasing rule meetings to officials clinics that are now mandatory for officials to attend (can't remember if these are mandatory for post season only but nonetheless are being conducted in the preseason). We now have Ken Marra assisting Mike Parker with observing officials (former NCAA official and held in high regard among his peers) along with Pete Stafford and (the nearly world famous) Clint Abbot. Officials as a whole are trying to get better and better and do our best for the kids who work their tails off every practice. We don't take our jobs lightly. It is a labor of love. Some of us sometimes break even when all is said and done (notice the gas prices now). As for the weight problem, most of us who are officiating or have been for any time are going to be subject to a little weight gain and being a little slower than we were when we actually wrestled. Hey it happens. We are all destined to be old (see Clint Abbot.....Just kidding Clint). But with age also comes experience. Experience, in most cases, brings better officiating. I myself could stand to lose a few pounds. I'm sure that most other officials would like to lose a few pounds and look like we did when we were competing. I know I would. We all have jobs to support our families and alot of us don't have the time to hit the gym like we would want, not just for wrestling but for our own well being, however we still have to make a living and wrestling does not make the house payment (i refer you to statement above). We sacrafice time with our families. my wife told me one year that if I went to another wrestling tournament she was going to leave and I was going to miss her. I told her I wouldn't because there would be another tournament the next weekend. If you think that the officiating is lacking, that's fine. It's your perogative, but I will refer you to Clint's comment in this thread. Each association is looking feverishly for new blood to hit the mat with us! BTW, according to the Army I am at 24% body fat and scored a 236 out of 300 on my most recent PT test (we have to score at least 60% on each of the three events to pass). Traslation: I'm a little plump but I can still get around pretty good. REFTN is correct. I watched the NCAA finals myself and saw coaches complain about calls being made. The have instant replay for the NFL and NCAA football. I wonder if it's because those guys make some mistakes ocaissionally? On another note, REFTN, how's things going toward the Nashville area? You know who I am if you will think on it a bit.
  8. I have calledwith reftn on several occaisions, and enjoyed each and every one. I have learned alot form him each time I have stepped on the mat with him. As for hitting two kids for fleeing at the same time......given the description of the situation....he read the book better than me, and is correct in the situation. Sometimes it takes guts to make the calls that aren't always popular and this guy can do it as well as anyone in the state. Now, my question is, what's up with the gray shirt. If you notice my location I am not able to call this year and did not attend the meeting pre season. I was in for the opening week of pre season stuff and went to the Science Hill takedown tourney, but saw all black and white. And Clint....you said you officiated for 42 years....that doesn't add up. REFTN said you called a match between Abe Lincoln and someone back in the day....? You called alot of my matches in High School and were one of the ones I loved to see come to the mat during a tournament. Thanks for sticking around as long as you have! It still is good to see you around the mat when you do come, if for nothing else but to observe.
  9. Ahh it's nice to be posting on a wrestling board again. I would have posted sooner but this Army doesn't understand the importance of high school wrestling. It was great seeing everyone at SH for the TD tourney.Being around the mat made my R&R that much more enjoyable. unfortunately because of some trouble at school I wasn't able to see my son's first HS event. However, due to injury (seperated shoulder) before I left to go back to Kuwait, it appears I still may be able to see his first HS event. TD tell Coach Brimer it wouldn't have worked anyway, they would only let T drop to 106 after hydration testing. Folks keep me informed as much as you can. Being away from home is bad enough, but when you can't keep up wih your first love, it's miserable. My wife told me once a few years ago that if I went to another wrestling tournament she was ging to leave. I told her I would miss he but not for long there was another tournament the next weekend. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Have a good year Region 1!
  10. Sounds like this was a classic. Unfortunately, due to my internet service being subpar, I was unable to listen to it for the second week in a row. Sounds like I really missed out on a good one. Hopefuly, if the planets line up right, I'll be home in time on my R&R to catch the Boone game. Can't wait to see everyone. Even you CANEFAN! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> BTW NOONESFOOL, how was the popcorn? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  11. From where I am, I can't keep up with alot. What kind of things are going on in CC?
  12. I just now got a chance to look at the thread....It has been an interesting week here in Southwest Asia...and busy at that.... Apparently it has been busy at home on this thread.... Anywho....I agree with NOONESFOOL, this should be the game that helps East build some much needed confidence on O....The D should handle CC pretty easy. (Inserst Leonard's voice here...Leonard's Losers) If the Cane staff decides to play some folks on both sides of the ball, some tired players might keep East from a shutout at the old hen house. From what folks are saying, things are not looking too good for the fans of the fighting fowl from Cocke Co. The best rooster in the stadium will be the one they will be selling at the concession stand. The Hurrincanes should have no problem blowin' the feathers of the birds this Friday. Leonard's loser Cocke Co. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> BTW, if your going to the game, the red rooster from the concession stand is great. You'll have to ask NOONESFOOL about the popcorn!
  13. Denial is an ugly thing. Did the sheep drag you across the field for those grass stains? I only have brothers...... Now go get lost..... that shouldn't be too hard for you.
  14. That's good! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> (I put the smiley in there for you CANEFAN) The point is Mr.T....... The jerseys were old enough that it wouldn't hurt to leave that Jeff Co. cow crap infested soil and the uniforms in Jeff Co. and burn them like soldiers used to do with lice infested uniforms of the enemy during the Korean War. Now go grab your sister and give her a big kiss for us...... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  15. You must be refering to East wearing the Black jerseys at the Jeff Co. game. East is the visitor for this game, so they will be wearing their white jerseys. The reason they wore their black jerseys at Jeff Co. was due to the rain on the field and they wore the old unis so as not to get all that Jeff Co. mud on their whites. They did that in the play offs last year at Burke Toney in the last mud bowl of the season against Johnson Co. Even if they have a down pour, mud won't be a factor on the new surface. On another note....... As bad as I hate to see my old friend Gut struggle in his first season at the helm of the Patriots, you must not have much to talk about with Jeff. Co's season, since you came to this board to spout off alot of nonesense.
  16. The Injuries have taken it's toll. The Montes loss at the begining of the season was big but could be overcome with all the other returning starters on D. It seemed like every week the team was losing a key player. The center in one game made snaps a little hairy. The QB in the next game. Dockery never even made it into the season. I think the expectations would be met had things not gone south as far as injuries. I don't think this will be the deciding factor for the playoffs, especially in this confrence. The solid thing East has going for it is the D which seems to be the solid point of the year. As Coach Bryant said, "Defense wins championships." I don't think that the D will carry them all the way by any means but it will be a BIG plus against West. In comparison with the two opponets that each team has shared, East shut out Cherokee and kept them in the game against Jeff Co. most of the game. The turnover problem will hurt both teams if what my good friend in the broadcast booth calls "the curse of the turf" continues.
  17. If I were there, I wouldn't be sitting in the stands, if you know what I mean. I just wish I was there period!
  18. In '04, East won as the underdog......Josh Russell put on a running show of record setting proportions. School and series records for rushing yards. West is a good team, just not as good as in the past. East has sputtered on O but the D is solid minus the Fulton game. East's better years are to come I think with the talent being so young and getting all kinds of experience this year.
  19. That's what happens in a county you can crawl across in one day and put the schools about two miles apart!
  20. He won't accept a collect call from Kuwait. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> You right about the way they are scheduled. It does make things easier to schedule. However, I believe that to be a district decision not TSSAA. If I'm wrong fire me and send me home. I want out of the desert anyway. Point I was trying to make, it could be done....and would be a great atmoshere for a football game! He's playing? I thought he was out of eligibilty!
  21. For what it's worth, East shut out Cherokee....
  22. Yeah, I know it the county championship, it's been called the City Championship for years even though when the City had the schools everyone in the coutny attended them. Forgive me...I'm trapped in old school. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  23. Apparently you haven't checked well enough...... 1. TSSAA determines when all regular season games are to be played. 2. TSSAA determines when all district/confrence play is to be finished. 3. Your theory is great except for one thing. Morristown East plays Boone the last game of the season, which just happens to be a Five Rivers Confrence team. Boone could literally swap the date with West and play the final game of the season. CANEFAN is correct. TSSAA determines what teams MUST be played, and a time frame for when they are to be played (ie, Week 0 - Week 10). It is up to the individual schools, AD, Coach or whomever to decide when. This is done at a scheduling meeting. It is this way with all sports. I remember when the game was moved it was moved because of money. That, if nothing else, is still fresh in my mind. However, the play off system was not in it's current form at that time. Both teams season were both pretty much over by then, except in rare ocaisions when one of the schools made the playoffs. Times have changed and now the playoff picture comes into play. Yes the palyoff system was changed to generate more money. More classifications, more playoff games, means more gate, means TSSAA makes more money. Yes, during post season of any sport, TSSAA collects a bigger percenatge of the gate, however the officials are paid by TSSAA and not by the school as is done during the regular season. The post season has been done this way in several sports (changed to generate more funds). I don't think this game palyed in the cold would affect the draw. It certainly won't hurt the field now!
  24. The first game wouldn't give the excitment like the last game would. There was always alot of build up when it was played last. It was moved during the 89 season I think. CANEFAN might be able to help me with that. The playoff implications would be great. Depending on the season, it could determine who will go on and who starts working on basketball or wrestling season or even home field advantage. Not to mention bragging rights for a year. I haven't made a pick yet but I'm going with the Cane's on this one. It will be a slugfest as it is every year, but I believe they can pull it off. Go Canes!
  25. Since we are talking about the City Championshhip game, what is everyones thoughts about moving the game to the last game of the season like it used to be? Any thoughts?
