    Ronnie

As of recently I have noticed more and more posts concerning Ronnie Carter. Most are negative. From what I know of the current state of TN wrestling, Ronnie Carter has done nothing to benefit our sport for many years now. Also, from the sound of it, it appears he and the TSSAA are doing everything within their power to hinder both the growth of the sport as a whole and the ability for our high school athletes to better themselves in the off season. As these boards will be shut down in the next month to most of us non-paying members, Id like to bring up the topic of the potential high school shutdown rule that has been proposed. As I understand it, this rule would all but lock the athletic facilities of every high school over the summer months. Has there been any new developments with this issue?
  2. I was under the impression that Luke Bornemans stint in college wrestling was done. If not he must have just made a return to the Lebanon campus recently. Anybody know what is going on with the former black horse? One thing I would like to point out, and not to knock the achievement at the Edsouth, Newberry had what looked like 3 starters wrestling in the tournament. I have seen these guys compete and at full strength they are an extremely solid team. I dont know if Id stick that feather in my hat. Keep up the good work. It is great to have another team in TN giving college wrestling opportunities to kids.
  3. I disagree. It is the offensive wrestlers obligation to attempt to pin the defensive wrestler. In the course of doing so sometimes nearfalls are awarded. I think hitting the offensive guy for fleeing in this instance is totally uncalled for. If the guy on bottom starts running from the guy me, Im gonna follow him out and get a fresh start.
  4. I still havent gotten an answer to my question. How can you hit two guys at the same time for fleeing the mat? Wrestler 2 leaves the wrestling area. Thats fleeing. Its not the obligation of wrestler 1 to keep him on the wrestling area. If wrestler 1 had pushed him out of bounds would that also be fleeing since he made no attempt to keep him on and in fact forced him out of bounds. I am seriously perturbed by this. It seems like overcompensation, and a ref with nothing to call that wants to "shake things up". While I am on the subject, lets get rid of all the double stalling calls. If you want to warn both guys at the same time, fine. But dont penalize them both a point, because it accomplishes absolutely nothing. Like I said earlier, I admire and respect both reftn and clint abbot. They have both refereed some of my past matches if I am not mistaken. But could one of you guys give me an answer as to the double fleeing call.
  5. reftn, I usually respect your posts a great deal. However, to hear that you hit two kids for fleeing at the same moment in time makes me question your judgment. Is that even possible? Unless they went off the mat at entirely different areas, I dont believe so. Granted, I wasnt there, but this sounds fishy.
  6. WOW!!!!! did I strike a nerve!!!!!! LOL. If you want to compare top prospects, you are in alot of trouble. How many wrestlers from Tennesse are wrestling D-1? I know of a few. The kid from Tenn. who is wrestling for Missourri, he is the real deal. Prospects from Indiana??? Where do I begin. Matt Coughlin@ IU, Angel Escobedo IU, Ian HInton Michigan State, Brady Richardson, Tsirits, Howe going to Wisconsin, Cooper Samuels going to IU./ I could go on forever. Tsirtis is not the only top prospect from Indiana in the last few years by far!!!! Coming out of high school with what was expected of each of the two, Simpson and Tsirtsis were the top two prospects of recent years.
  7. Whizzer, Why dont you jump on I-65, drive North for a 6 hours and keep your rear there? Noone wants to hear your bull. As a former HS wrestler in TN, I can tell you that the talent pool is really not as far off as you state. Lets compare the top two products from both states from recent years, Alex Tsirtsis and Phillip Simpson. Tsirtsis 7th at Ncaas. Phillip 3 all american certificates. Needless to say that Tsirtsis has one year left, but Simpson as an individual outperformed him.
  8. Responding to your own post? Wow!
  9. It isnt that the tornado falls off your head. the snap isnt recessed(sp?) like it is on the four strap. This causes it to fall off. Go watch the NCAA's wrestlers with the tornado are always having to stop the match to fix it.
  10. Adidas stinks. Adidas shoes break down and fall apart much faster than the asics. Go with the new Caels. Much more reasonably priced than the Gables, lighter, more flexible, breathe better, and are much sexier. The new Caels are maybe the best Asics shoe since the Gutches and like designs. Dont get him knee pads unless he has knee problems or he you want to turn him into a sissy. Cliff Keen four strap or the brute four strap are by far the best headgears around. The twister and the tornado fall off ones head far to easily.
  11. Wow. I think all techem was sayin is that he didnt see any results from the Body Bar, Brockport, or any duals with Bundy wrestling in it. I havent seen him in many brackets thus far either. Some of you guys need to relax a little bit. Not everything written on this board is vindictive.
  12. I love it when HS wrestlers get on the internet to tell the world what they are going to accomplish. If I were a coach, I would discipline the humility back into this kid.
  13. Ill make it a little clearer for ya bud. The officiating in Memphis has been subpar in the past. (P.S. Im trying to be nice)
  14. I would wager that Father Ryan and many other schools would be willing to make the Memphis trip if Memphis area officials get on the same page as the rest of the state.
  15. Do you mean imply? You are inferring. I love my mother and I am sure she experienced a great deal of pain and suffering putting me into this world. However, you lost the point. I realize that women "know" pain. But I also wouldnt want my mother out on a wrestling mat. I am not a sexist, regardless of what you may believe. In my large family, women are the glue that holds everything together. Having dealt with one of the worst situations with a female wrestler, I consider myself to have a pretty good grasp on the bad that can come out of it. I am all for equality, but its not about equality anymore. Its about one side wanting to have it more opportunity. Look at Title IX its no longer about equal opportunity, but rather more opportunities for women. Lets see if we can screw up our sport and mirror it after Title IX. Sound like a good plan? LifeisGood4, get off your soapbox.
  16. MVM, Are you talking about the "powderfuff" match that Soddy does? If so, I don't think that really applies to the topic at hand. If not, think about this. Girls wrestling is like a certain show that has made Tiajuana famous; people will go to watch just for the shock factor.
  17. I agree maj. However, one has to admit that if sweety is indeed a girl that the entertainment factor alone is very high. If sweety is an A student in honors English, it makes one question that particular educational system. I understand that this is an informal forum, but utter disregard for punctuation has been a pet peeve of mine for many years.
  18. It is not a derogatory statement. Men are faster, stronger and better athletically than women. Sorry bud, but it's the truth. And men are the superior sex when it comes to sports. That is why men went out and hunted and women gathered berries and roots. This has been developed for thousands of years. Testosterone also gives men a little bit of help in this area.
  19. This man does have a point. If the sports are the same, then why doesnt the WNBA get ratings like the NBA. Why is there no demand for a professional womens football league? Because its not the same.
  20. Oh sweety. I am so sorry those boys are being mean to you and your female teammate. You have my deepest heartfelt sympathy. Its just not fair that those boys would use their physical advantage in a contact sport such as wrestling and try to push your teammate past her limit. However, honey, we have a word for that where I come from...training. I'll elaborate. Training is where your teammates go after you with a tenacity that pushes you past your "limit". In turn, this allows you to become a better wrestler. When you step on the mat, you will be better prepared because you have already been pushed past your "limit". Welcome to the sport. It stinks. You get hurt, experience pain, and get pushed past your "limit" on a daily basis. It is an individual sport and sometimes people get left behind because of physical inequities.
  21. Why was this topic dredged up from the depths of the coacht abyss? Who cares? Sounds like somebody likes seeing his name on the forum. Yes the kid has a great deal to improve upon if he wants to reach the upper level that TN wrestlers of the past 10 years have set. Apparently the kid is tough. Some kids struggle with the transition from middle to high school. Honestly I didnt think that he was all that impressive physically.
  22. Females should not be allowed to wrestle in a male division of this sport. As was said earlier, lets see a guy attempt to go out for the volleyball team. The poor guy will not even make it into the gym before the coach laughs at him and kicks him out. The problem with female wrestling is the intentions of the female wrestling. A wrestling mat is not a place to make a social statement. As with Title IX, its not about having the same opportunities, but rather having more and better opportunities for the fairer sex. On principle alone, no females in the sport.
  23. Wrestling a girl is like fighting your kid brother. You have nothing to win and everything to lose. Wrestling is a fight among two individuals.
  24. Is there really enough interest to sustain a seperate girls state tournament? Is it fair to the boys who work their butts off? If the bracket only has 4 girls can you really call her a champion? Girls wrestling is a farce. It already has roots at the international level and it has screwed both freestyle and greco. When fem wrestling started coming on, the weight classes were cut. In the mid 90's, there were 10 international weight classes. Today, there are 7. The number of mens weights was reduced because of the additional medals that would be awarded to the womens division. Unless there is enough interest to fill all the weights with at least twelve in each bracket, everybody that cares about wrestling should oppose this mockery.
