  1. Arby's Ref's get real it reminds me of the days that Van Huss had Fred Gray, Carroll Kite or Donnie Colbaugh in every big game he had at the dome
  2. Typical coach complainig to the paper about the officiating when they get beat just like he did against Boone and then saying the officials made the correct call in the paper when they beat Unicoi.
  3. What I mean about no call is both players going after the ball and there is contact who do you call the foul on. The Hill missed 3 straight front ends of a ona and one, they didn't block out on the free throw, they turned it over in the last 20 seconds , fouled in the last 20 seconds and missed a wide open 8 ft shot and some of you are blaming a call.
  4. Great no call on last play. Both players after the ball at the buzzer. Great open look for #32 it just woulden't go down. Whoever threw those balls at the refs is a sorry excuse for a fan though.
  5. I hear their top 2 players are out for the tourney is that true and if so why?
  6. $1500 OVER 5 MONTHS WHICH IS 4 IN SEASON AND 1 FOR SUMMER CAMP DOING SOMETHING THEY ENJOY IS ALSO PRETTY GOOD.THEY ALSO HAVE PERKS SUCH AS FREE CLOTHING AND SHOES . ASK ONE OF THE GUYS IN YOUR AREA THAT YOU KNOW WILL BE SQUARE WITH YOU THAT OFFICIATES AND SEE HOW MUCH THEY MAKE YOU WILL BE SUPRISED AFTER EVERYTHING THEY PAY OUT WHICH IS STATE DUES,LOCAL DUES. UNIFORMS,SHOES, CAMP FEES, AND GAS WHAT THEY CLEAR. ALSO MOST COUNTIES NOW TURN IN A W-9 FORM ON OFFICIALS IF YHEY MAKE OVER $600 IN A YEAR FROM THERE SCHOOL DISTRICT SO THEY BETTER TURN IT IN.
  7. Hey Rebel, Look at my post I said I wouldn't do it. I am playing devils advocate. The better refs are working college games because the pay is so low. Include travel time and gas and $65 is a joke. Football makes more and so does girls volleyball and in my opinion basketball seems to be the toughest. Most schools pay the $250 maybe not all but I am sure there coaching supplement is more than officials make.
  8. You are right hit them in the pocketbook and take that great amount of $65 away from them. You can make more working 4 pee wee games at the local rec. As for the coaches they don't pay the $250 the school does and how much of a stipend are most head coaches getting. Officiating is tough and just like some coaches are better than others, some players are better than others, some officials are better. That is just the way it is. It is always easy to blast the officials and come up with all of these solutions but yet almost no one wants to do there job including me.
  9. With the new classifications coming on I here that Volunteer is interested in the IMAC instead of the Big 7. Is there any truth to that.
  10. Waco doesn't have the guts to face Venable and Mr. Hotzclaw as for the school and it's failure to give you a quality education and athletic success we are real sorry about that maybe you should have left earlier in your career. I will check with the baseball coaches and see what type of player you where.
  11. Satch, I won't get started on Waco he obviously is a youngster as he has only talked about late 90's to present. I will say once again you can be considered a good coach if you win even if the reason you win has nothing to do with coaching ability and all to do with talent. As for coaches getting better because they left is plain stupid. I guess Darrel Watson, Mike Mays, Mike Hooks, Joey Christian, Jerry Adams, Rodney Burton, Doug Wagner, Jerry Higgins, Rick Wagner, Mike Poe, Brian Barrett where all very bad coaches who just became good when they got to there new program according to Waco. The Volunteer Basketball team has had a success at times as has baseball and track, Football has had some success but not alot. The girls program has been succesful most of the history of the school. As for some kids coming into Volunteer if there not living in Hawkins we don't need them. I am a firm believer if a place is good enough to call home than it's good enough to go to school there if not and you want to go to school somewhere else than move there.
  12. Thats cool Stokomo and I appreciate that. My comment was that sometimes there has been some unsportsmanlike behavior out of East Hawkins and that also does including your program as well as other programs at other schools. My point is don't get on here and blast another schools behavior when your own backyard is bad. As for DB they have alot of quality people in there program and alot of good coaches which makes them successful. I will only get on here and speak the truth about whatever school including Volunteer which I know the most about.
  13. East Wet-Behind-the Ears. Did you play or blow a flute in the band. At this point so far all 3 of there opponets have been better period and as your comment about Volunteer they have lost atheletes elsewhere case in point this year. My comment was to about your beloved school prospering from it. Name the sport and we will talk about it. I will go back to the late 70's with you and see just how much sports you really know or if you are just a wantabe.
  14. One more thing Waco they left for the $$ not because they didn't like Volunteer or enjoy the kids.
  15. Nice Waco you are correct about the current situation but are you implying the influx of talent and coaching that DB has received from Hawkins County has not been prosperous. Alot of those atheletes that have went have one some District titles or maybe regionals but never a state and some did go to the next level and some didn't. For those who did they probably would have any way based on talent and for those who didn't obviously they could have done the same at there respective home school wherever that was. If its good enough to live in its good enough to go to school in. As for Venable it sounds like you have an axe to grind. He is a very good defensive coach and could be a great one with alot of talent. Go ask Darrell Watson, Brian Barrett, or Joey Christian how good of a defensive coach he is. When Watson was Head Coach at Volunteer and Venable was defensive coordinator Volunteer was pretty good. I think in the first couple of years as a school Volunteer beat DB a couple of times. A head coach is always judged by his record and that is a direct reflection of his talent level. By the way I have a few names that helped DB over the years from other programs if you need them.
  16. I appreciate that DandDD and I also see Waco doesn't want to talk anymore. He may be checking his coaching staff. Stokomo no hard feeling I just call it like it is. More posts today than in a month. Time to go back to semi retirement. If anyone wants the truth just ask I will monitor the threads and answer the questions.
  17. Excuse me for my spelling I got on a roll it should be Hawkins. I only post ever so often but Waco, Stokomo or whoever I will only tell it like it is and you know it. I know everything about Volunteer from the good to the bad. I know what programs and coaches as well as fans act with respect and sportmanship and who doesn't. Don't try to hide a single thing as I will hammer you on it. Volunteer has alot of good coaches, atheletes, faculty and parents but most important good people. However there is also a few things that could be better and on of them over the last 25 years is sportsmanship at times. If anyone disagrees then you haven't been around the program for very long.
  18. Hey Waco if Volunteer has such bad coaches Here is a list of folks who are at DB or have been there from Hakins County or coached at Volunteer. Football- Doug Wagner, Ryan Wagner, Brian Barrett, Joey Christian, Rodney Burton and also Darrell Watson. Basketball- Coach Adams, Baseball- Wagners and Burton Tennis- Ina Danko Girls Basketball- Lori Fowler Girls Softball- Jerry Higgins It looks to me as if Volunteer has had some really good coaches or did they just get good when they got to DB. I think not its just that DB has had better atheletes and a strong recruiting program and I also can give you a list of good atheletes from Hawkins County if you would need them. As for Venable go ask any Coach on the beloved DB staff and see what they say about Gene Venable.
  19. Stokomo, Good to hear from you. I said some of these posts are from people who also support other programs who at times have not been the most sportsmanlike. I never said a word about the head coach. I also said Volunteer had run the score up on East a couple of times pertaining to Football once again I never said basketball. As for Coach Venable he is a very good coach and if he wanted to could have been a few other places where he could have one more games maybe as an assistant or possibly as a head coach. All I am saying is people shouldn't throw stones at other schools when you live in a glass house and Stokomo no disrespect but I have been in Hawkins County for 40 years including when your beloved DB was recruiting Hawkins County players and I think a couple of them played with you so don't get on me about East Hawkins County as I have far more knowlegde about the subject and than you.
  20. There is no excuse to run the score uo on anyone. If it would have been 2nd team (vs) 2nd team than you can't blame those kids for scoring but it doesn't sound like it was that way. However over the last 20 years Volunteer has handed it to East a couple of times as well. As for sportsmanship it has to be the most important aspect and as I read these posts I see alot of the people ditching East who also support strongly the Volunteer Basketball team who also has a pretty bad sportsmanship problem. Coach Venable I am sure will handle this and move on.
  21. When do the Twin Springs vs Volunteer Basketball tickets go on sale I need 10. I bet Whittamore had a coronary.
