This wasn't how Ooltewah planned to end the 2004 regular season.
After winning its first eight high school football games, the sixth-ranked Owls lost last week to third-ranked Oak Ridge in Oak Ridge. On Friday night, Ooltewah lost on its home field to Farragut, 12-7.
By virtue of losing to Farragut and Oak Ridge beating Soddy-Daisy, Ooltewah fell to No. 4 in the Region 2-5A standings and must play next week at top-ranked Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett in the first round of the state playoffs.
Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy and Farragut each finished the regular season with 8-2 overall and 5-2 region records. The second criterion came into play and because Hixson won on Friday night, the final region seedings will be Oak Ridge, Soddy-Daisy, Farragut and Ooltewah.
Ooltewah coach Ted Gatewood was visibly disappointed after the game. He spoke briefly with the Owls, the broke toward the Ooltewah locker-room.
"We didn't play tonight,'' he said. "Plain and simple, we didn't execute. We didn't perform, and it was my fault.
"We'll regroup. We'll have to. It's the playoffs.''
Farragut senior place-kicker Thomas Riddle provided all of the Admirals' points with field goals of 19, 46, 37 and 41 yards.
