  1. :35 seconds left. Dockins shoots three FT's for LHS / hits two. Columbia 67-61. :34 Brown shoots two FT's for Columbia, hits both. 69-61. Putback by Andrew Donald, 69-63. 20.4 seconds left. Waddell Williams is fouled and hits 2 FT's, 71-63. Gray layup 73-63 FINAL.
  2. 1:28 to go in the game. Lebanon's Dixon picks up fourth foul. Childress at FT line for one & one -- he misses front end and Columbia leads 65-53.
  3. Lebanon's Dixon hits two free throws with one second left in the third -- cuts Columbia lead to eight at 54-46. Lebanon is 14-of-16 at the line so far. Columbia is just 1-of-4 on FT's -- but they've hit seven threes.
  4. Columbia leads 52-44 with 1:33 to go in the third period after a Childress jumper.
  5. Columbia leads Lebanon 37-34 at the half of their Region 4-AAA game at Columbia Central.
  6. The MJ, Beech, Gallatin, Henry Co., Clarksville, Clarksville NW, Dickson Co., etc. Region is being hosted by Hendersonville High. MJ defeated Henry Co. in Monday's opening round 59-54.
  7. I see Mt. Juliet won a close one over Henry County 59-54. Any details, scoring leaders, etc?
  8. There have been a few notable local high school kids who went on to be key contributors at CU including -- 2b Mark Purvis of Mt. Juliet; OF-DH John White from Lebanon; 3b Jon Franklin from Lebanon (White & Franklin were started on the CU WOrld Series team in '88) P-DH Jody Atwood from Lebanon; P Anthony Ford from Lebanon; C Jason Hand from Nashville; OF Bobby Joe Gibbs from Lebanon; OF Taylor Dillehay from Hartsville; OF Craig Moreland from Hartsville (by way of JC); P Coe Foutch from Friendship; P Clint Perry from MJ -- I know I'm leaving some out. A few locals who went D-1 sometimes come back. Scott Fowler from Friendship signed with Samford, stayed a year, then came to CU. He threw a complete game the other day. Cumberland plays in the toughest NAIA region in the nation. They MUST rely on these JC's and D-1 dropdowns to play that schedule. GOOD local kids can make the squad -- if they'll stay hitched -- they will contribute before they leave. Woody has found a formula that works year after year after year.
  9. Van Buren played box & 1 and some triangle & 2 against Tomlinson holding him to 8 points. He never got to the free throw line. Van Buren outscored the Commanders 32-19 over the final two periods. Bryce Shockley led Van Buren County with 18, followed by Allen Rigsby with 16 and Daniel Perkins with 15. FCS had no one in double figures.
  10. Gordonsville 69, MJCA 34. Jon Austin 24 for the G-Men. Stephen Dill had 11 and Stephen Gooden 10 for MJ Christian. For updates on the 8A tourney -- go to www.wilsonworld.com
  11. The Nashville City Paper has a brief story on their web site. It basically says he was not on the Tuesday night show for undisclosed reasons. I know he was in town Tuesday -- my brother saw him at a lunch sponsored by the Nashville Superspeedway.
  12. Football schedules are set up on a two year "home & home" basis. Wilson Central went through the same thing -- they opened their doors in time to get a full 10-game schedule and paid the price for it. You look at Blackman -- they had a chance to work for a year as a JV-type program before coming into a full 10-game schedule. I'll bet if the folks at Central had it to do over they would seriously consider waiting a couple of years before going varsity in order to avoid an 0-20 start.
  13. Lebanon defeated Oakland 54-39 Monday. Senior post Amanda Wilbert had 18 including three 3-pointers. Webb led Oakland with 14. These two teams will play in the first round of the 7AAA tournament next week at Blackman. Lebanon is the 4 seed / Oakland #5.
  14. Tomlinson had 22 points Tuesday in a 60-46 win at Mt. Juliet Christian. He now stands at 1683 for his career, passing the 1666 of Chris Cardwell who graduated in 1990. MJCA was pretty classy, stopping the game when he broke the record and giving him the ball.
  15. Adam Tomlinson needs only seven points Tuesday night to become Friendship Christian's all-time career scorer. He already holds the career rebounding record. FCS plays at Mt. Juliet Christian Tuesday night.
  16. Congratulations to Mt. Juliet for a big win over Beech Tuesday. Hudson had 15 and McFarlin 12 for the Lady Bears. Maddox was the only Beech player in double figures with 10.
  17. My apologies to Hicks for stating she was ejected in an earlier post. It was Hughes, I was confused.
  18. The Hicks girl was ejected from Friday's Lebanon game for taking a poke at a Devilette. She's not playing tonight -- tight?
  19. Lebanon overcame a poor night at the line (9-of-21) and defeated Blackman 37-34. Alaina Hicks had 18 for Blackman; Amanda Wilbert 12 for Lebanon. Megan Thompson of the Devilettes had nine points in the game -- all in the third quarter.
  20. Congratulations to Chris Grimes of LaVergne. He's going to Tennessee Tech. Chris was an outstanding talent for the Wolverines and by all accounts and very good kid.
  21. Bill Robinson at Watertown. He's in his third tenure as head caoch.
  22. Paige McFarlin from Mt. Juliet had 20 the other night. She can shoot and is hard to defend. Didn't play much before the holidays due to a hip injury. Keep an eye on her.
  23. First round pairings and game times: Mt. Juliet vs. Blackman Thursday at 10 AM; Oakland vs. Hunters Lane at 1 PM. Moore Co. vs. Lebanon at 4 PM; Smyrna vs. McGavock at 7 PM. 12-27 2nd round: MJ-Blackman winner vs. Oakland-HL winner at 4 PM; Losers play at 10 AM. Moore Co.-LHS winner vs. Smyrna McGav. winner at 7 PM; Losers play at 1 PM. Girls finals Saturday (12-28) at 7 PM / consolation game (?)
  24. Does anyone have a bracket w/ game times for the Smyrna Christmas Tournament?
  25. Anyone have a copy of the bracket, or at least the first round pairings?
