Grace Baptist could very well give Humboldt or Manassas problems...The 6'9 guy would give any team problems...However, according to everything I've been told and even some things I've read, they seem to be a team that likes to run and gun...A player was quoted in the paper recently saying that they try to turn every game into a track meet...If Grace Baptist wants to beat either of these teams, that aint the way to do it...If Grace tries to do that against Manassas or Humboldt, they'll get run out of the gym... As far as Summertown goes, Manassas and Humboldt are in another stratosphere compared to Culleoka as far as athleticism is concerned... I will agree with you on one thing...The best team does not always win...You have upsets all the time in all sports at all levels...I just believe that the gap between the elite (Humboldt and Manassas) and the rest of the field is pretty large...Maybe I'll be proven wrong this week...Only time will tell..

Mostly because of the battles we've had on here...I'm sure the teams have respect for each other but both do have a little something to prove...Humboldt wants to redeem themselves after last year's substate loss and Manassas is looking to prove they are indeed the #1 team in class A after being behind the Vikings in the polls all season...Not to mention, they're both gunning for that gold ball /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Grace and Temple are good teams as well...They are probably the only teams who have even the slightest chance of beating either of these two..

He's talking in terms of the playoffs in general, not just the state tournament...Temple lost in the District and Region Championship games, yet here they are...They went on the road and won their substate game so they deserve to be here...

You make some interesting points..

A gimmick defense such as that one won't help against Humboldt...Way too many weapons...It's not a one or two man show...All 5 starters have been in the double figures routinely as well as a couple of guys off the bench...

I can see it now if Manassas loses..."The refs cost us the game"...."They cheated us"...Blah blah blah...Humboldt is just as good as Manassas if not better this year...You just refuse to admit anyone is on your team's level..

I really don't see Manassas being any quicker, but you may be right...Humboldt's bigs aint slow by any stretch of the imagination and the guards aren't too shabby either..

Figured it out??? Nah, clueless my friend... Ask any REAL Humboldt fan or any player for that matter...Winning this state tournament wouldn't have felt right if they didn't go through Manassas to do it...Humboldt players might like this, I'm not sure because I haven't had a chance to talk to any of them yet...One poster made a good point earlier though...This gives Humboldt 4 days to prepare for Manassas so it could be a blessing in disguise...Either way, Humboldt was in no way trying to avoid Manassas....I believe the fans (not just Humboldt fans) felt like that would be the best championship game matchup...To have arguably the two best teams in Class A playing in the first game of the tournament just doesn't seem right...Then, looking at the other side of the bracket, you have arguably the 4th best team with a 2-round bye... I just hope I can make it up there Wednesday morning...Been waiting all year for this..

I look for them to try and press us a little bit...If that doesn't work, they'll either fall back into a 2-3 or man...If they do run man, I like our chances...Get Buckner out of the paint and attack...Penetrate, draw the help D, kick out for the open shot...We've been doing it all year, just another game...

I do like Humboldt in this game...Buckner will block some shots and make some plays, but it's going to be hard for him to handle Crayton, Taylor, Dunbar, and Porter coming from every direction playing above the rim...We'll just have to play our game and take care of the basketball..

Only reason I'm upset is because I wasn't going to be able to make it until Thursday meaning I'll miss the Humboldt vs Manassas game unless I pull something off... Who's your favorite in the tournament?? I really like Memphis (best defensive team in the country) but I think UConn is going to win it all..

I wasn't even going to be able to make it up there until Thursday...Now, I'm going to have to figure something out in order to get up there...I think it is hilarious that not only did they put us against each other in the 1st round, but the 1st game of the tournament, 10:00 Wednesday morning...Not sure how I'm going to be able to pull this off..

Temple's Coach must have did some serious praying last night...They couldn't have gotten a better draw than they did this morning.. The main reason I have a problem with this: Temple is more than likely not going to be one of the two best teams up there...Humboldt and Manassas should both be better and Grace Baptist has proven that they are better....So, theoretically the fourth best A team in the state could be playing for the state title and would not have to beat any of the three teams that are better to get there...They'd have to play one game against a team that is better than them and that's in the championship game..The road there for Temple is a joke if you ask me...Summertown MIGHT give them a game but I doubt it...

Winner of this game will then play Grace Baptist and Temple...I said in a post earlier this week that those are the 3 teams I'd like to see as a Humboldt fan...Manassas, Grace Baptist, and Temple are the teams that have knocked Humboldt out of the postseason the last 3 years...Now, Humboldt will have to go through all 3 in order to win the state championship... I do think it is a bunch of a crap, but nothing can be done...

So putting the top 3 teams in A on one side of the bracket is "fair"??Temple sleepwalking into the finals is "fair"?? Seeding based on performance would be "fair"...Make teams earn their placement in the tourney...It really just makes the most sense.. Even if Humboldt was in Temple's position, I'd still have a big problem with it...Manassas and Grace are getting a raw deal here too...

We all knew it would happen...The random draw pits A's strongest two schools from the west against each other right off the bat...Looking at the bracket, Temple has a CAKEWALK to the final....Humboldt, Manassas, and Grace Baptist are all on one side along with Grace Christian while Temple, Cloudland, Clarksville Acad., and Summertown are on the other side... Judging by the way things went today, it's time to get rid of the random draw...Seeding seems like the logical thing to do...The weaker teams from weaker regions don't deserve to coast into the championship game...Then you take the only two schools from West Tn in it and make them play each other in the 1st game?? It just doesn't make sense... Well, nothing can be done so if the TSSAA wants the state championhip game to take place in the 1st round, then so be it...Let's get the predictions started...
