  1. Fantastic point dukefan. Yes Rossview are pretenders. The only games they lost were to ranked teams. Clarksville, despite a down year, had six ranked teams scheduled, and knowing Donahue, there were probably a few that got canceled. Your coach should've shelduled more ranked teams; there's no doubt that any good team would've scheduled Rossview because they're an up and coming team. I've read some of the Leaf Chronicle online stories about them, and their goalkeeper is sure interviewed alot. Giving up five goals in one game (and I know that their defense was very solid) proves 2 things: 1) that you should thank your lucky stars that Russ Plummer is a merciful man and that the JV went in for most of the game. Someone like Mike Irby (Germantown Houston) would have left the men in all game (not saying that Hendersonville's JV aren't men) because he is ruthless and would beat you so bad that you would never want to enter Shelby County again, and; 2) for your goalie and a nickel I could buy a cup of coffee; in other words he's terrible. I saw him play against Hendersonville and he has hands of stone, he is by no means an athlete, and he makes poor decisions. The rest of Rossview's team is very good. With a goodkeeper I would rank you guys in the top 5. But because of him you sink. And to clarify another point made (or mindless opinion rather) by captainmorgan that was not the best Hendersonville team ever. The first thing is that they are always good. The second thing is that there were teams back in the 1980s that ruled the state, and I'm willing to bet you probably didn't know that, even though you have indeed been following soccer in middle Tennessee for years. There is a referee from the Nashville area named Jamie Clary. His team in (I believe it was) 87 or 88 were hands down one of the top 5 teams I've ever seen in 20 plus years of watching Tennessee soccer. And Yes, I believe they were better than that Bearden team in '02 that went like 25-0. And to rhssoccer8: what's your point about the faster players came in following the thirs goal? Why weren't they in the whole game? Oh wait, they still scored two goals after those players came in. Or did they come out for those last two goals also?
  2. I heard that Blackman got beat, but soccerinfo says that they are still in it. Does anyone know what the deal is?
  3. I wouldn't put anything passed Rossview. They might not be as good as Hendersonville, but they are a very athletic team. The problem that they might have is physicalness. Rossview bullied many teams around this year (and I don't mean bullied like they ran the score up, but rather that they were able to use their bodies well) and this Hendersonville team is as good a Hendersonville team as I've ever seen, maybe even better than their squad that won in 98. Also I don't know that Rossview's coach has the experience necessary for Hendersonville. Plummer has been there and knows what it takes. I saw him take out some of the best Clarksville teams that school has probably seen, with not such talented teams; in 02 when Clarksville made it to the State finals, Hendersonville barely had a .500 record, if recall correctly, and I heard someone say that they were one off the worst Commando squads to that date; they still took Clarksville into overtime. Also, the first year that Houston was national champion (and they were a brilliant squad of players) they only beat Hendersonville by one goal. I don't want to say that Hendersonville will roll over them, I just would like to make the point that Rossview has never been passed the Regional semis. I still believe that either team could win it. Good Luck anyway Rossview; you guys are in the big leagues now. P.S. I saw a Rossview guy at the Hendersonville game with a shirt that had an "11" on the back with one of the 1s marked out. I thought that they've won like 15 games this year? Someone please explain.
  4. Congrats to West. I think youu guys are underrated. Take care of business. Does anyone know anything about Sullivan South besides what's posted on soccerinfo?
  5. Wow. Those are pretty convincing scores. What makes everyone so certain that they'll win by so much? I haven't followed soccer as much in Northern Tennessee in the past few years. It seems that there's been a great shift in power in that city. Oh well. Tell me what you think.
  6. No it's not time to lock this one up, at least not until ThatsIgnorant realizes he's wrong. The funny thing is that Hendersonville, a team that I would venture to say is as good as you plays teams that are as bad as some of the teams you play and yet they keep the score down. There are many ways you guys could have kept the score down without embarrassing them. Brentwood's soccer team is just a bunch of bullys, but that's OK. My point is that if Russ Plummer can keep the score down, then so can Mike Purcell.
  7. How is that weak. Brentwood is following the same rap that they have the past several years. Everyone thinks that they are going to set the world on fire. I think it was two years ago that everyone thought they were going to be great then they got drilled by Bearden. Now granted Bearden were national champions Brentwood lost something like 5 of their next eight. And last year they started off the same: drilling the small guy and squeezing by those good. What happened next? They lost to SMYRNA! Now I'm not taking away anything from Smyrna because they had an outstanding club last year, but Brentwood shouldn't lose to Smyrna. I think it's safe, ThatsIgnorant, to say that the seniors this year can be partially to blame for last year's stunner. You're right; I can't blame you for eight years, but I can for three. That's not too weak. And I will say one more thing in Brentwood's defense; had they had Terry Shrock and not Wendy Hart they would have done much better last year. Terry Shrock was a great coach and led them to the '95 title game. That was team that maximized their potential. Shrock didn't have to blow teams out. He had more respect.
  8. You are correct. Muhammad Ali was another. And those teams and individuals, save the Fab Five, won championships. Congratulations in your post season success in the past five or six years. You made it to the final four once in about eight years with some of the premier talent in the state. And I'm sure a few of those 10+ goal games were much closer than the score.
  9. Wow. That is pretty amazing considering that 54 of those goals were against Hickman Co., Spring Hill, and Hillwood. Impressive. Now, where one side of me says to be so ruthless that a team never wants to play you again, the other side wonders if that's really necessary against teams that already don't want to play you.
  10. Easy there. I don't play for them or any team for that manner. But I do remember in 1998 or '99 when a very highly ranked Ridgeway (#1 for that matter) was blanked and dominated by a very tough CPA team that was very underated. Just throwing in my 2 cents. It's only a prediction, not a testament written in stone. I obviously can't predict the future, but I do know upsets when I see them and that game was an upset by every means of the word. I appreciate your honesty and forwardness. That is the way to respond to a post. In my defense, I don't have any sort of tangible proof that they could make it. I only see that they are ranked in the Top 11. Just a thought. Thanks for the response. P.S.: I would suggest that Thatguy44 never write another post. You are truly the epitome of idiot.
  11. When does that begin (the district I mean)? I would like to see that game.
  12. Congratulations Thatguy44, considering stoppers score a lot of goals on defense. Maybe we have an innovator of a new stopper position. Listen Beckenbauer, I'm sure your coach would really appreciate you telling the entire state that you are going to trash every school's house that get's in your way. And unless someone is incorrectly posting scores on soccerinfo.com (if he is, I'm sure he's really trying to undermine the honor of David Lipscomb's supreme soccer dynasty), then please explain to me the two goal defecit you endured at the hands of Ravenwood (who, I'm told, is a new kid in town) and the two ties, all of which you dominated. Tell you what, while you're explaining I'll give everyone my Final Fours, since that was what the original post was for: AAA: Farragut, McMinn County, Hendersonville, Brentwood A/AA: Lenoir City, CCS, CAK, CPA DII: MUS, CBHS, BGA, ECS Please explain those scores if you would because I'm sure you were really robbed of those games, three to be exact, one with the score of 3-1. Have a nice day!
  13. I was just wondering if anyone knew how Collierville did against these teams from Arkansas and Oklahoma. I know Broken Arrow is good and I would like to know how this game turned out. Thanks.
  14. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Tony Meyers at McCallie also a successful coach at a school in Virginia before he came to McCallie?
  15. Yeah Rush. I think he's the all time wins leader in Tennessee. Very successful coach. Good input. More, please!
  16. I will start off in no particular order. I believe that a good coach can be measured on two levels: the measure of a successful season w/o a championship or the measure of an unsuccessful season with a championship. So in no particular order I'll start off with: John Lanier, MBA: The man has been around since '76 and he has established MBA as one of the top teams in the state year in and year out. Even though technically MBA has only made it to the state finals once and lost, I'm pretty sure that they won the equivilant before there was an official tournament back in the days when it was a post-season invitational tournament. Robin Dieterich, Father Ryan: After stints at schools like, I believe, BGA and Brentwood, he lands at Ryan where the team is a constant powerhouse. Kudos to Dieterich as he has been one of the most successful coaches in the state. Dave Donahue, Clarksville: One of the most successful coaches in the state for what he gets. He's about to land on 300 wins this week and I believe he has fewer than 100 losses, and has yet to have a losing season. Several district titles, a few regions, and one state runner-up finish. Prime example of success w/o championships. Mike Irby, Germantown Houston: One of the top coaches, I'd say, in the country. He's led his teams to two national titles and several more state titles. He was also a successful soccer player at the high school and college levels. Protege of Donahue's. Has built Houston into what I believe is the most powerful post-season machine in the state. This team was like 13-7 one year and made it to the state championship, where they lost 2-1 to champions Bearden. Definitely a top pick of mine. Russ Plummer, Hendersonville: This man has won a state championship at one of the premier schools in the state. Hendersonville is definitely up there with Houston as one of the post-season powerhouses in the state of Tennessee, and I's say that much of that success can be contributed to this man. I believe he was also an assistant at national colegiate power Indiana. Prime example of unsuccessful seasons with post-season success. Hendersonville probably holds the state record for most consecutive district titles. Wallie Culbreth, Farragut: Exceptional coach. Led his team to the State and National spotlight as Farragut was the 2003 state champion and finished in the top five in the nation, first by one or two services. I believe this coach is a protege of John Lanier's. He has done an fabulous job with this team. Forgive me if I left anyone out. The only reason I didn't out the old coach from Oak Ridge is because he's retired. I would like to hear other opinions, and try to keep it clean. After all, who wants to dog on someone elses success. If you think that these coaches aren't legit, tell me why and who you think the top coaches are, but put in some good reason, not just because he's "your coach."
  17. Wow, now I see why this game was so big; I didn't realize Clarksville won by a total of 17-3 in two games last year. I just looked it up on soccerinfo.com. I guess Rossview has improved since last year, or Clarksville lost alot from last year. Who were their best players last year? Did any play soccer this year in college? They must have been good last year to beat Rossview that badly, or once again someone upset off Donahue. Either way it appears they did far better Saturday night than last year. I'm impressed Rossview, truly. Not many teams can do that, I mean get beaten like that and then swallow their pride and come back the next year and play them straight up. Was Rossview weak last year? Again, I'm just trying to understand. I commend the coaching staff. Usually players would be embarassed by a loss like that and not come back, but it seems that they are strong this year. Still their record looked decent last year.
  18. I'm sensing some heat between these posters. Let's not get out of hand. Yes it's painfully obvious that ccjv05 is a player for Rossview (Rossvue?), but it is also obvious that these are two very good teams. The fact that the game was decided on PKs means that there were three fouls that the ref decided were bad enough for a PK. You can't fault the ref, after all he is only human. It seems to me that a few RHS fans are spiteful because of the outcome. The rankings have nothing to do with anything; they are numbers attached to teams with good records (usually w/o losses) who happen to play other teams with good records, so don't let these numbers rule your train of thought. Rossview got the dry end of the stick. It might be different next time, but don't cry about it; get motivated. Maybe that's why Clarksville beat Northeast those times in the late 90s when they tied each other; Clarksville got motivated and Northeast got arrogant. Teams just listen to your coaches because you've got fine head coaches and assistant coaches. Both have extensive experience. In the meantime play your games and when you post a thread make sure you have something a little better than "Rossview was robbed on the second PK." I also read the article in Clarksville's paper when Coach Chartrand said that his player put in the PK beautifully and then proceeded to say that his goalie almost got the second PK. True, but doesn't that mean that the Clarksville player shot it in beautifully as well. I mean he shot it at the exact same spot both times. I realize that it's easy to say what I would have done because I wasn't on the field, but in my experience I find that if a goalie goes to a spot where he knows the shooter is going when the shooter takes off for the shot, then the shooter usually doesn't change his mind and proceeds to shoot that way. Just a thought. Your goalie missed a good PK shot, he didn't almost have it. I know I was there so try and argue. Good Luck in the future to both teams.
  19. No. I didn't play for them. I used to know the coach. Good guy. Rossview's coach looked good also, but I used to know Donahue. I didn't actually follow them because I didn't live there, but over his first seven or eight years there, coaches began to talk about Clarksville as a soccer rich town because of teams like Clarkville and Northeast, and more recently Rossview. Since I've been away from Clarksville (not the school) soccer, I see that it has grown because I also learned that Rossview's girl's team was very competitive, probably because of Majors as head coach and strong support for the program. I feel that's why Clarksville has excelled in hard times when others haven't through the years, becasue of great support from the community. At least that's my theory. To answer your other question, no I don't see Clarksville as overrated because I have seen three of the other top five teams in the state play in Farragut, Brentwood, and Houston. The state seems relatively even amongst the top teams in AAA. I do see Rossview as underrated, however, though they still have a bit of a ways to go. Looking at opponents win-loss records, I see teams like Houston, Clarksville, Bearden, and the Nashville area schools with percentages ranging from the high .600s to .900s, and Rossviews is considerably low. Now that doesn't say anything about their program, but it does say something about the teams they play. I really love soccerinfo.com. The state has come a long way to provide for this sport. Now I have a question for you; seeing as how the select program in Clarksville is the Royals, do you play for Clarksville. If not who, and where do you get your information? My information is all out in the open, yet it seems as though from the posts you write, that you are a player. I guess I assume that because you predicted a score with no legitimate evidence. Now don't take my question as threatening, I'm just curious. I'm trying hard, and it seems as though I'm not, to not cause problems because that would make me look like I favor one team over the other which I don't. I'm just a fan of soccer. I did enjoy watching these two teams play. They were truly great. Rossview may catch you guys next time, but don't change the way you guys play, you or Rossview. You both played great. Good Luck in the Future.
  20. Thanks for the directions. The school was really easy to find. Now to the game: great show by both teams. I kind of thought that Clarksville may have met their match this time, but it was certainly a good performance by both teams. Rossview was a very big and physical team. They worked the ball very well. On the other hand Clarksville handled the ball a little bit better which I think gave them the edge. There were no real stars on either team. That is what I always like to see in a good match up. All goals were on penalties which I thought were all legitimate, Rossview's especially which was the result of an obvious hand ball: always a PK. The fouls which resulted in Clarksville goals, however, were violent; Rossview's player deserved the red card and Clarksville rightfully deserved the breaks they were given. On the other hand it was a relatively even match. Rossview had much more accurate shots, but Clarksville failed to capitalize on some opportune chances. It seems that Rossview has built a solid program; kudos to the staff. Clarksville is still ticking and they looked good, however very small and apparently, some people in the crowd mentioned, were very young. Youth, though, leads to some great things. This game determined that I am going to the district tournament because I want to see these teams duke it out . Congratulations to both teams, you both have fine programs.
  21. Great! I will deifinitely be there. I really want to see this Chartrand guy. It sounds to me like he's built one heck of a program. I also really want to see Donahue. It was almost more fun to watch him then the game. 7:00 PM at Rossview, I-24, exit 8. I'll be there. Good luck to the teams.
  22. Oh my! Majors is at Rossview and he's an assisstant. This Coach Chartrand must be very good because Majors was quite brilliant. Is Donahue going to retire soon? He's been there forever, I think since Clarksville had a program. I hope that Majors takes over when Donahue is done because that would be the perfect fit. I'm pretty sure he was a graduate of Clarksville. Anyhow, what are these team' records? I'm currently clueless about soccer in that town. Why do think that Rossview will win the game? I'm not trying to stir any pot, I just don't know anything about those teams anymore. I mean it's been a good six or seven years sonce I saw Clarksville play. My friend also mentioned something about Kenwood. Who's Kenwood. God, I feel like an old man. Please, anyone give me some information, but don't instigate anything. I'm trying to regain my knowledge of soccer in this town, not goad on any rivalry. Congratulations to Chartrand. It sounds to me like Donahue's got someone to give him a match. To give anyone a hint of how long it's been, does anyone remember Jason Warhurst. He was an excellent player from Northeast. I remember someone telling me that Donahue would have like to have had him on his team. I can see why also; the kid had a great attitude. I remember a bunch of soccer guys who used to talk about the All-None Clarksville team and he was one of the top players. And wow, Lee Nadeau is coaching now. I remember when he was in school, I think 98'. You spelled it different though. Is it a different Nadeau? If not, where did he end up and go to college? I'm getting off track. Please respond about the match-up. Thanks
  23. I dont know anything anymore about high school soccer in Clarksville. It seems that Rossview manhandled a weak Northwest team, but Clarksville only beat them 6-0; however when I used to follow soccer in Clarksville, Coach Donahue was never one to obliterate a team unless something happened that sparked his anger. I'm assuming he's still there. Last I was there Jeff Majors was his up and coming assistant. Has he taken over. I hope so because he has great things going for him. I know that Clarksville rocked Northwest's world for the past decade. Rossview must be a new school in Clarksville; again I haven't followed soccer there in quite some time. How have they done in the past against Rossview? Who's the coach at Rossview, and Clarksville? It sounds like if there's a chance that they might beat Clarksville then they're definitely contenders. I might go to see that game. Last ime I talked to Donahue, he had just received his 200th win against Dickson County and I still remember the score: 9-0. They must have upset him off that game. He always was unpredictable. How's Dickson County? They always had great athletes but that coach of their's was always lacking ability; alright, she sucked. I remember that he teams could never make it over the Clarksville-Northeast hump. Well, if there's a new kid in town maybe Clarksville's days are numbered. Good luck to all the teams and especially Clarksville and Rossview in Saturday's game. Hopefully Donahue's still there; he always had something up his sleeve for Northeast whenever they ran there mouths.
