    Top Games

Thank you for your nice words about Brentwood fans. I am not sure if we ALWAYS live up to that but I think we try. I have to say that both Hendersonville games and the Ryan game were some of the finest soccer I have seen at the high school level over the last four years. It is really nice when each team has such quality players. Even if you come out on the loosing end, you still know you played a great game and you can go from the field with great respect for the other team. It was no surprise that all those games, including the state championship, were 1 goal games.
  2. I think the teams you mentioned are actually classified in the east. I could be wrong but check with TSSAA.
  3. So, they weren't fired up this year?
  4. Thank you Red, even though your photo doesn't look like you have a brain, you obviously do.
  5. I wouldn't call it so much defensive as I would offended and tired of being put down for winning a state championship. JEEZ!
  6. First of all, we are not trying to convince anyone that we were the better team. That is what you are doing. Trying to convince everyone that the better team lost. We have no need, really. I love it though. You whine, boast and degrade in the same paragraph and then claim not to be whining. Yes, you really started to play and "took over" the game on that well earned PK. We did attack at will, which we always do, even on teams at full strength, and you still had 8 men back on D not 7. You lost an offensive player to the red card so it just doesn't make sense that we had some kind of huge advantage to attack. If anything you would have had a little weakness in offense, in which you claim you were superior, even after the card. Come on now, which is it? How is it you know "for certain" that Hendersonville would have taken it easily without the red card? I am very interested to know. Kelly was not doubled teamed as you assert. We assign single man (#4) marking. We just don't play that way, never have and never will. You still had the same numbers attacking everytime you came down the field. All your red card did was force a couple of guys to take more offensive runs. Which you claim they were superior at anyway, even though they were so tired. Watch the game tape and objectively write down the stats. You know we will. Again, take away the refs (which you can't) and Brentwood would have won 4-2. But, then we wouldn't have deserved the win, right? You guys are a great team that could not overcome what was going down on the field in both calls and play. It happened to us in the regular season against you. Are we whining about that? Of the State Title, I think we can honestly say WE EARNED IT! Of Hendersonville, we will say we were very proud and honored to have a fellow MidTN team there with us so we can finally put an end to the boasting wicked witches of the east and west. (That was just a light hearted, toungue-in-cheek jab!) Here's a little taste of what Brentwood had to deal with all evening: Worth 1000 words
  7. Well said Frommy. You were the ROCK this year.
  8. It's all a matter of perspective isn't it? I agree with a lot of this post but I don't think either team was cheated. I don't think there was anything "unfair" for either team. There are blown calls in every game and calls that are legit are almost always considered bogus and game busters for the loosers. While we all think the red card was extreme, it doesn't matter if we think it was warranted or not. It was the call that the ref deemed appropriate. Nothing "unfair" about that. As long as we are quoting coachs, we should point out Plummer's quip, "That’s the call they made, so that’s the call you have to play with.” Also, I don't think you can call a blind-side foul from behind a "collision" but that's OK. We also don't know what may have transpired before the call (in the eyes of the ref) with the specific player that was given red. I agree that the outcome COULD have been alot different - for a larger Brentwood victory in regulation. I think the game tape will show that the Tyler Olgilvie shot that bounced inside of the goal line should have been credited as a goal but the linesman was just not there to see it. I am sure the game tape will prove it, but, it doesn't matter, we didn't get it, that's soccer. Did Chris Fromhold's light bump in the box warrant a PK to give HV an easy lead at half. We don't think so, but hey, that's soccer. We can live with it. The only games I have seen over the last few years that have ended in PKs are between the very best of the best - evenly matched teams. When a game gets to a shoot-out, it's a whole new ballgame. Doesn't matter what happen before. All things are equal - until one team is better. That's just soccer. We can live with it
  9. Actually my team WON the final. But with that aside, I was referring to the fact that you all would not have been in the final game without the goals of Kelly against Bearden on Thur. night. I did NOT say that you wouldn't have made it to state without Kelly because obvioulsy you did. I was not discounting your team effort, just saying that you def. had a tight game with Bearden and Kelly is the one who made it happen THAT night - thus getting you to the final. And for the record I know who all your players were that scored critical goals this year. I do know that HV beat BW in regualr season, I was there. Another poster here refered to the fact that you beat BW without Kelly (1-0 mind you) but could not beat them with him. I thought that was interesting. He scored 1 great goal but other than that was a non-factor. I think Brentwood did a pretty good job shutting him down as you did shutting down Lowder. You can relax now.
  10. I'd say the probability is high. Brentwood was a very deep team this year.
  11. Hendersonville wouldn't have been in the final if it were not for Kelly. It would have been Bearden vs. Brentwood.
  12. I, for one, am very proud of both Brentwood AND Hendersonville for representing Middle TN as the first two Mid State teams to meet in the finals - EVER! Now the trophy lives in Middle Tennessee. Let's keep it up. Notes on the game: I think the red card was a bit extreme, it should have been a yellow but I do not think it affected Hendersonville's ability to play or gave Brentwood a big advantage. Hendersonville just brought another man back as they were forced to play defense a little more than they are used to. They still had plenty of offensive drives and chances to score. The box score says HV had 23 shots to BWs 17. I don't think that is right because the scoreboard showed Brentwood with 12 shots to 6 just in the second half. I don't think HV had more shots in the first half either but I may be wrong. Someone said earlier that there is no way Brewntwood could have won without a one man advantage, but, Brentwood scored first with everyone at full strength and had a total of 3 straight up goals that were not the result of cards, questionable calls or anything anyone could claim was controversial. Hendersonville was awarded a PK in regulation (which we could cry was questionable, but we won't) and they scored. Tyler Olgilvie (Brentwood) had a shot in the first half that hit the upper post and most likely bounced behind the line but the ref(s) were not in position to see conclusively. We could claim we were ripped off, but we won't. Take the refs away and the score could have been 4-2 in Brentwood's favor. But that is speculation, just as Farragut is speculating that they would have won if it were not for that blasted referee. That kind of stuff is just silly. Whether you agree with me or not, that's soccer and you can't change it. And, we will never know for certain how the game MIGHT have turned out. We only know with certainty how the game DID turn out. I must say that this was the most exciting, incredible, dramatic, and best soccer game I have EVER seen in the 10-12 years I have been watching. Both goalies did an awesome job in the PKs, both blocking two shots. Fortunately for us, Hendersonville missed their first shot. We didn't miss our last. Result - STATE CHAMPIONS. Nobody can diminish that, no matter how hard they try!
  13. LP12, I guess you are right that the call did effect the game in a sense, but the refs call and actions did not lose the game for you like you all claim. I based my statement on what REALLY effected the game. 1) Your foul, not the ref. 2) Your inability to put a legit goal in 3) Your inability to stop our goal Is there anything fictional about that? I've said all I need to say. I have to put it to rest now - have a big game to get to today.
  14. Anybody know when the last ALL MIDDLE TN AAA championship game was? Has there ever been one?
