They did this for one season, 1993, then changed it to the current system.

Would the Georgia playoff model work in TN. I have a friend who coached in Georgia and he says the way they do it you could have teams from the same region make the championship game. I think it would be interesting.

You sure seem to know a lot about  Murray, Barry, Gorillas, rugs, cronies, connections, morons, and SC not to have any skin in the game.

Y'all don't know how bad I hate to say this ( this is hard to admit) but you may want to pay attention to old SC7. I would say he knows more than anybody on here when it comes to this thread.

Are you sick? Do we need to get you to the ER? I bet that felt really good to finally get that off your chest hahahaha

Product on the field was bad. Talent was bad. Fans were bad. Weather was bad. Covid was bad. Blah blah blah.

I don’t have a kid at Smith County. I don’t coach at Smith County. I’m just telling you the problem is bigger than Murray and everyone that’s trying to put it all on him is part of the problem. Was Murray the guy, obviously not, but my issue is bigger than that. The problems at SC are bigger than that. We can all stick our heads in the sand and pretend it’s not, then my only question is who’s going to start this thread back up in 2-3 years, blaming whoever Barry decides to hire. Surely you’re smart enough to see through the smoke screen.

Sounds like you need to do like @glover suggested and get on the school board so you can attempt get rid of what you believe the problem is lol

Sounds like a disgruntled parent whose “little Johnny” was getting to play or a coach that Murray brought in who is about to see his way out with Murray to me.

You can’t honestly say you thought the product on the field this year was any where close to good? Even last year, there was talent there but still same results. Yeah 2nd place and a home playoff game. Woo Hoo! You beat the bottom scrubbers to get that and barely beat them. The only good team in your district smacked you. How many games was it before Carthage actually scored an offensive touchdown? That all comes back to coaching.

So we are now down to keep it close? Coach to not lose “as badly” so you can keep your job or coach to win and if you lose by a couple more than people thought you should, you’re gone. Got it. Don’t take chances. Run the clock. Keep your losses close.

I agree a loss is a loss. But losing 43-7 is a lot different than losing 43-28/35. 28-0 sucks compared to 28-14. Obviously you don't understand things or the game for that matter.

Might just need to relax on up to Hartsville, where at least when the Director gets involved he knows what he’s talking about.

As far as Murray goes, I think they’re better than what he inherited. I just don’t think two years is enough to make a determination on whether the changes he was making were going to be effective. As far as what they did this year, did you see the disparity in talent?

    #betterhiretherightOC

So this leads to one of my questions. A good coach can keep games respectable regardless of talent disparity. The talent difference was not that great. Saw numerous SC games. I know coaches who could have taken that same team and made the blowouts not blowouts.

  7. Ok well I am got to shoot my shot. How many teams did the last coach beat that he was not supposed to beat? 0. How many games did he lose that he had the better team? 2. How many games did he keep it respectable that he was clear cut underdog and had zero chance at winning? 0. So in his region games he beat the scrubs. Didn't ever really sniff at beating Upperman. Had two TD lead against DC last year with a good team and lost. Lost to a Stone team last year he should not have lost to as well. Then this year he gets boat raced by every good team they play and never puts up a decisive victory against the bad teams.

If I was you guys well if I was dirtybird I would R E L A X the hire is going to be made sometime this week if I had to guess.

    So is Dyer the guy??

Well that is what we are speculating but from the three names I have heard having been on the same team as two of them. I hope it is Dyer or Frey. They grew up here played here and know the expectations even though those expectations are far fetched with this fan base they know them. They will have SC winning games outside the district and looking respectable again.

Decided it was best for me to give myself a cooling down period before I posted. TC beat us, but not with out help. The refs were BS to be nice 2 crap calls back to back, neither one were correct call. Ref running the chains told they were bad calls. No calls on TV, left tackle moved all night, no call #3 for TC stood over everyone he tackled and taunting them, no flag. PI on the pass in the end zone, hit the receiver before ball ever got close. All I've heard from TC fans is how many penalties ya'll had all year and then NONE.

Coaching on Watertown side, the superman diving by our D-line is the dumbest thing to call ever, it takes 4-5 players out of the play on the start and if your LB get lost in the shuffle then it leaves the middle wide open. All year and for the last few years H20 has put the smallest possible kids on the D-line, thats the dumbest move ever, put your big boys up there and clog up the holes, have you LB contain the edge.

Offensive playing late in 4th quarter down a score. 1st and goal on the 8 and we throw the ball 4 straight times? No one freaking run, and we throw to the player thats getting doubled covered? TC lives in Websters head in the playoffs and he'll never get them out of his head. Go Megis!

Actually, there's quite a bit of "big blue nation" that would support this, myself included.

It was voted on in the 90's, and I don't know the exact results, but it was voted down. It really hasn't been brought up seriously since.

I would support it for the same reasons already mentioned, not so much for the athletic opportunities,  but the academic. But, I do like the idea of more sports.

As far as the colors, years ago I thought black, blue, and white would be nice.

However, I do like the fact that Gville is small and the close relationships that are there.

Well I apologize for lumping you with big blue people that I know that are absolutely against it. I think you can have the schools and still keep the history of both. I just wish it would happen. As far as colors....we could have a little UCLA flair with black, blue, white, gold lol

Again ( this is getting scary) I agree with oldsc7 and the last 3 post. The southside ( and some north side) have always opposed combining. Ive heard  smaller school is better -it  gives more kids a chance to play -  farther travel to a central located school as few reasons.

With a combine school the numbers may still be 3A-4A numbers- There would be many more sports to add - from SC high to Gordonsville is what,,,,5 -6 miles. And more up to date facilities /  classrooms instead of adding  / rebuilding every few years. I don't know what the cons would be.

If you look at with an open mind and take off whatever color glasses that people are wearing....you don't have cons. To me the only problem is where would they build and put the new school, and build a facility like at Watertown where everything is on campus. Add tennis, track, wrestling, build two gyms so both basketball teams can practice and don't have to share. Like someone said make the colors blue and gold (which looks really good IMO) you could keep both faculties in one building, add more dual credit classes, if certain groups are worried about losing their history have a Gordonsville hall and Carthage hall...you don't have to lose your history to make progress and change.

Unfortunately the kids in that county suffer from the "back in my day's " quagmire and egos that can't see past the river on each side. They should've built one high school along time ago and moved to 4A . They would be super competitive and be playing against natural rivals week in and week out! If you combined all those kids on one program it would be a force in 4A. No more playing both sides of the ball every snap , depth at every spot , and a stable of good high school football players year in and year out. It would also benefit every other sport and potentially add other sports as well i.e. track , wrestling , fishing, etc.. . Great people and kids in that county that deserve better!

I 100% agree with this. This is the best post on this thread. Everything you have said is very true. All sports would benefit from this and you could add multiple sports like you stated. Everyone would benefit and all teams would be super competitive and you would more than likely dominate your football region and baseball district considering the babe ruth team has made multiple runs deep in the tournaments. As a former Owl I would 100% be on board. I was on board as kid growing up and our teams when I was in school and even after I graduated could have multiple trips to cookeville. In all honesty all the push back comes from the big blue nation.

Can we get back to our coaching dilemma and the fact that it appears no one had a plan in firing Murray? I initially thought the replacement was already in play and that’s why they pulled the trigger so quickly, but the longer this goes on the more it seems that may not be the case. Or is it the replacement is in play, but their current team is still playing?

Would say the latter. Truly it doesn't matter. They can't do anything right now anyways. Except lift but don't the school offer that as a class? So no need to rush that's what got you in this mess in the first place.
