  1. Although I am a good ways away from Memphis, I really do not think coaching is a problem at MUS. The Owls are always well disciplined and well coached. I do not think the talent level has been on par with BA and MBA the past few years--but whose has?

This year may be different. MUS has tons of returners, including an all state wide receiver, leading rusher and a QB with  some experience. I have picked the Owls to be the surprise of the D2 AAA and to compte with BA, MBA and perhaps McCallie for a Clinic Bowl spot.

agreed, i went to mus till my freshman year and played on 7th and 8th grade teams that went 19-1 combined. this years senior class at mus is the best since 97 or 98 when richard moore played. jd lawhorn just signed with ole miss and is only a few hundred yards away from breaking the all time career receiving record at mus; also, kane alber is a great back with amazing speed and good strength. i wouldnt be surprised if they end up in the clinic bowl this year.
  2. Another name that hasn't been mentioned is Jeremy Lyons.  I believe he played for DCA.  He was pretty much all they had in 96 (I think) and he led them to a state championship.

That was the year DCA beat St.Benedict 51-3 in the 1A state championship haha
  3. Best teams I've seen

    BA 1995-1996 absolutely loaded everywhere

Riverdale 1994-1996 This is the Gerald Griffin, Fernando Bryant, Antron Peebles, Alvin Duke, David Coppens years into the Eric Locke years. Riverdale was just playing faster than everybody else was.

Pearl-Cohn 1996-1997Whatever switch Maurice Fitzgerald hit Midway through the 1996 season............it was the right one. With John Henderson, Reggie Ridley, Carlos Watkins being the first three guys off the bus..........they were huge and intimidating. Buck Fitzgerald and Santonio Beard were huge in the development of their back to back run.

MBA 1999 Ingle Martin was the man, plain and simple, and when you added Moses, Dominique, and Barton Simmons to it, they were tough. I don't think they were near as talented as the other three teams I listed, but there is no doubt they could compete with any of them.

Pearl Cohn almost lost it to mus that year

  4. another back that goes unmentioned is kyle gowen from mus (96-98). in his three years he managed to break andy mccarroll's single season and career rushing records even though mcarroll started as a freshman and had double the carries of gowen. gowen was also about 5'7 or 8 and from what i hear could never bench over 190 lbs (?).

  5. Four that immediately come to mind are Ingle Martin and Michael Fisher from MBA, Ryan Moore from McCallie, and Benji Walker from BA. Tough to come up with a fifth, although I think Richard Moore (MUS, 1997) and Penn Garvich (McCallie, 2000) would be decent choices to make the top 5.

I'm sure there are probably some choices from II-AA, but I am not as familiar with AA (or even A).

richard moore was amazing ha hes my next door neighbor

  6. whatever happened to coach jeff mcferrin? he is still one of the all-time greats in memphis football history from his years at Germantown and is highly capable of leading a football team. looks like rosemark needs some enrollment adjusting.

  7. If u are in search of the best running back in TSSAA History, you would have to take a trip down to lower hardeman county. I currently can't recall the name of the school, but they were know for their dominatination of the football field back in the early 20s. There was a running back by the name of JonRufus Leroy Henning. I have one vivid memory of a game where he rushed for over 450yards on 45carries, on a cold snowy night in november. With the bad conditions of the then segrageted schools, they couldnt afford enough equipment for the whole team, so when offense and defense had to share equipment. Henning was not only a good runner he was tough, in the game of his 400+ yd performance he did it barefootedly, because of the finacial woes of the great depression he couldnt afford shoes or even socks. Also he had no breaks because that game his team only had 10 people that night because half of his teammates were drafted into the war and half of his teammate's parents wouldnt let them play that night, and the other half were somewhere in alabama picking cotton in the blazing hot sun, and the other half of his team died the week before in one of the first recorded racist acts of the ADA in co-ordaniance with the kkk. most people have prolly never heard of him because at that time it was hard for african americans to get noticed in a society ruled by jim crow laws. JonRufus Leroy Henning later became the first african american player to be on the roster of a mlb team but sadly he was assasinated before he could play his first game.

i thought jackie robinson was the first black player to be on the roster of an mlb team? then again i may be wrong.

  8. Didn't Braircrest use three QBs last year?  Who will start?  ;)

I wouldn't say that one "starts" as in meaning ones better than the other, because they all have their certain strengths based on a situation in a game and they are all outstanding QBs. But as far as the QB that Briarcrest will use to open the games and set things on track, Bram Cannon will probably be the man.
