1. It is not just soccer but all select / AAU / club sports are impacted. It does keep some coaches from making their sport a 365 day a year sport and keeping kids from playing 2 sports and that does happen.

However it in general is a bad proposal!

This has been discussed on the girls basketball board a great deal, the basic logic still follows so you might want to look at the thread. Its probably back about 3 months so you may have to go to the 2nd page to find it.

  2. Geez, Scrimmages don't count because they are nothing more than practice games. In every sport they have preseason games and scrimmages and they don't count because they are part of getting ready for the real season. Teams are not complete officials many times are not used and etc. Why is it even a question as to why they don't count.

But just for the record if someone has a scrimmage after August 21st and its not an official and regulation game then it still does not count.

  3. Yap Yap Yap!, Name me 10 players that have or will sign with college programs?

Okay now name just 2 of the players that did not play AAU?

Can't do it because all of the top players also play AAU, this is where they play against the majority of the best talent. Its also generally where your able to practice against like skilled players in practice which also makes you better!

Most of the top HS coaches typically like their players to play AAU, and may even be involved with a program ( from a distance of course, like Shelbyville)!

  4. That McMinn Fire team is nothing more then a reqruiting tool. They should be DQ'ed and sent home. ;)

Thats true but at this point it is not against the rules. Some of their other actions might need to be examined to see where they fall as regards the rules but to use the organization as a recruiting tool assuming no rules are broken is fine.

You folks in McMinn county seem to have a little bit of a dispute going on as regards your high schools. Join the crowd.

A new AAU team could be started by those looking out for McMinn HS and they could they stop whinning.

Central (aka McMinn Fire) could moe closely follow the TSSAA / AAU rules as regards age and coaches helping with the AAU team.

  5. I LOVE IT! The "assistant" that you allude to, "I believe you may understand what I'm asking!" is coaching girls that are NOT part of his HS team. They are 8th graders, and from serveral different counties. He has coached girls from at least 5 counties with only ONE school complaining about his involvement. You seem to misunderstand the problem. It's not players being recruited to one school, but players not wanting to attend the other. Not till the other coach stops attacking a successful program will he begin to gain respect. And not till parents feel comfortable with their kids being around the staff (read questionable orientation) will the program begin seeing players coming there. But let me say, I hope that you don't stop. It's a great compliment to see a AAA coach feel so threatened by a AA program, not to mention all the humor that we get from watching that GROWN man act like a little child. The only negative is that the girls that are there now deserve to have a coach invest his time in building that team, not attacking another. But, if their parents accept that behavior I guess it's ok with me. He's not hurting us. We have the best team that money can buy. :thumb:

Thanks for the additional insight into your counties problem, however I could careless about who goes to which school in your county. You made my point however and that is because your coach is violating rules (read them and you will see) with the AAU program it seems to be causing conflict within the county and players that you are talking about. I do know that your AAU team has disregarded rules and when others follow the rules and compete against you that will always cause hard feelings. Hope whatever is going on their between your schools calms down, following the rules would be a good start and if you are then who cares what the AAA coach thinks.

  6. it seems to me you might either be a coach that has a broken program or a parent that can't find a team for your daughter to play on. I do not disapprove of an assistant coach coaching AAU ball. AAU ball is not part of and it will never be a part of TSSAA. My child has been playing AAU ball for a long time and yes, with the same group of kids. most go to the same school and I do not see anything wrong with that. The coach volunteers his/her's time and doesn't get paid for it. There is no rule that states an assistant coach can't coach AAU ball. What it does say is that they can't coach girls that go to his or her High School that they coach at! I see assistant coaches all the time coaching children under the High School age and do not see anything wrong with it. besides, this is my time with my daughter and who is going to tell me that I can't have her play on the same team as her friends? NO ONE!!!

Sorry not a HS coach who has broken rules, not even a HS coach. Sorry my daughter plays and starts on an excellent AAU team that has not broken any rules.

However do know of some local HS coaches that are coaching AAU teams that are made up of their own HS players and incoming 8th graders. Both are not following the rules and if the 50% rule is past they won't let that stop them either.

But you know it is a rule and they have to lie to bypass it and they have to get the kids to lie also, somehow that just does not seem to be the message to send kids.

By the way if your HS coach tells you that your daughter will do something within reason that you don't like I bet you will allow it to happen or your daughter won't be playing, and don't kid yourself he will tell you how it is. You just seem to have a large issue with the TSSAA but they do provide some infrastructure that must be in place or HS sports would be totally out of control. And no I don't agree with all but I don't just break rules or disregard them it they don't suit me.

  7. I am thinking that all us parents need to hire a lawyer to take court action against the TSSAA if this goes in effect. I don't think that no one should be able to tell me where I can take my child to play b-ball and how many of her friends that can or can't play!! We need to start to take Action against this group.

Okay where do we stop anyone can dislike any rule, and almost all rules involving eligibility involve telling us what we can and can't do. Should we all get lawyers and take them to court. Sometimes rules do serve a purpose, sometimes they do create problems for the majority but almost always a minority is bettered because of the rule. In this case there ARE coaches that require their players to play for who and where they want them to even in the Off-season.

There are coaches who are coaching players right now in AAU who also will coach them in school ball. This is illegal but some don't care, and if this rule is implemented there will be those that violate it to. But maybe it will stop a few more coaches from forcing the issue.

  8. 3) Fifty percent rule - Participation (includes practice) during the school year on a non-school team (club) outside the school season by students that will play the following season on the same high school team is limited to 50 percent of the number of players required to play the game (ie, three in volleyball, five in baseball or softball, 3 in basketball, six in soccer and football) In each sport, only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team during the school year may be placed on the same high school team roster the following season. Those students cannot be interchanged on the school team roster. This rule does not apply to seniors who have completed their high school eligibility in that sport. (example - if four students play on the same non-school volleyball team outside the season, then only three of them would be eligible for the same high school volleyball team the following volleyball season.)

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, since my daughter is one of the many who this will effect, but what right does the TSSAA have to instruct what parents do and don't do with their own children during the off season? My daughter plays on a summer team with seven of her high school team mates Sounds strange, but they have been playing together since they were in the fourth or fifth grade. We live in a small town that can not field a summer travel team without being mostly girls from the same HS team, because there is only one HS. The TSSAA is saying that only towns that have at least three HS will be able to have a travel team and that would limit the travel team to just 9 players. Or else, players will have to join teams in other towns putting a VERY BIG time and money strain on families to get to practice and games. TSSAA needs to limit their involvement to qualifications concerning grades, attendance, residence, and limit number of HS Varsity games and date for practices. I have looked at my children's birth certificate and also at my loans, deeds and pay stubs and I see TSSAA NO WHERE on any of these. Next thing you know they will be limiting the number of family vacations TN student/athletes can take. You would think that the lost court case over private schools would have taught them a lesson about sticking to what they can control and leaving the rest to the parents.

You state that the TSSAA is too involved! This rule like others is only as good as those who follow its intentions. Your HS coaching staff is not suppose to coach those AAU players that they would also coach in school the next year. Is your assistant violating this rule and if so why should any other rule, that will not be followed matter? I believe you may understand what I'm asking!

This is probably an example of where coaches and schools may be to involved with what their school team members are doing in the off season, so maybe if the rules in place were followed and not violated maybe other rules would not have to be added to keep some programs under control. I guess you would have to look at your situation and ask are we following the rules NOW?

  9. AAU teams should be carefull about the Pigeon Forge Tourneys as they had a great deal of organization problems this past weekend. All games at all gyms ran about 1 hour or father behind.

Players were playing out of age groups all over the place with no worry about getting caught.

Officiating was awful. Not just merely bad as is typical but awful. We saw one game with a team loose a large lead because they had at least 3 players foul out maybe more before the end of 3rd quarter. To be honest the team that lost all the players had the game taken from them (when we came in they had a big lead)the players that fouled out were all larger players and it seemed like they played with all 1s and 2s until they were down to 4 players and which point the blue team stopped the game. It then got ugly but not physical with the refs, the coach, and apparently some woman involved with the tourney I'm guessing.

Latter at another gym a coach who had not had any trouble with the officials was given a double T, and asked to leave the gym he did not and his team forfeited a game that was tied at 53 with 2 minutes left. Funny the tourney director jumped on the officials for enforcing the rules that states you have to exit the gym if you recieve 2 Ts. The director yelled that they would never officiate again because of this. The officials did not start the game back as the coach stayed.

2 different gyms with one director yelling at a coach to exit the gym because of bad officiating, and at the other the director yelling at the refs because they were following the rules.

It unfortunate this had been a well run tourney in the past! Maybe if people don't flock to it because of its location they will get the organization back together and get better officials and gym managers instead of money collectors.

  10. Okay, we were doing good with this post which was to just get substate results and not commentary. Lets just get the results so the thread does not get away from giving us results.

Obviously everyone has an opinion for example; Showtime7 its difficult for me to see you as someone who should be commenting on coaching conduct, where you not removed from your on the bench position (by the Flight management) last year due to your conduct during and after games? Don't answer like I said just an example of where all this could go. If you need to start another thread.

Yes all programs have coaches that at one time or another have been tossed from a game. Matter of fact a coach from my program was tossed two weeks earlier at the Boo Williams tournment but never was anything said to anyone after the ref ask him to leave. He picked up his stuff and left the gym like he was asked. All programs have also had fans at one time or another that have been tossed from a game. Now by putting a coach of mine in the same sentence of acting and use of words that was used in front of kids, parents, and others then NO we haven't had coaches act like this elitebball.

Now in terms of the substate being ran by a Flight coach? Yes, Phil Carr works in the Flight program but I speak for all that the North Middle substate is ran better than any substate and there is no favoritism shown to any team. The weekend before Flight played Pride and Pride won the game and nothing was said by either team.

Now having to play over three weekends, Yes the Flight team played three weekends in a row. If you really want to know the staff and players really didn't care much about coming back and playing this past weekend either but we did casue that what the schedule said and never was a word said.

It has been made to believe that elite was the only team that had to travel to North Middle to play, No Flight was schedule to play in the South Middle substate but was moved to North Middle. Is that where we wanted to play, NO and hopefully next year that can be fixed but it didn't cause anyone in our prgram to explode and loose our head.

I really didn't pay attention when all the happenings were happening during the game but after watching the tape and hearing words that were said and hearing from others things that were said and done then if we want to open this up for disscussion and call people out then I can do so also. Phil Carr is as honest of a person that you will ever meet. I think he is being totally disrespected by even writing or thinking in anyway that he would be apart of any wrong doing. It is very obvious to anyone that watched the game that there was no wrong doing done and just take your loss and get ready for the state. The officials of the games have been calling AAU state tournaments for the past 10 years. The game was called the same on both ends and that is all you can ask for by a official. I really don't need to go into deep discussion of things that after watching the game tape that was said loud enough to hear it 30 minutes down the road in Nashville. If we are going call people out then be prepared to get called right back on. I am done with this disscussion and have done a great job this year of staying off these boards and will continue to stay away from them and hope that when my coaches talk to people on this matter they said what they really feel to them on the phone instead of saying one thing and writing something different.

  11. An observation, there are fewer teams each year involved in the substates over the past 3 years. There are also I believe fewer registered teams playing AAU even at the youngest ages. I believe that if you continue to see local teams develop talent at the youngest ages, and then in many cases have it recruited by the powerhouse and sponsored teams eventually this cycle will eliminate many from AAU. I believe that the people who are looking at traveling teams to develop talent for their local schools will start focusing on grade teams made up of mostly one or two area schools, this is already happening with MAYB and some other new groups. This different focus will reduce the amount of AAU teams that the powerhouse teams will be able to see in tournments, and will reduce their ability to scout and recruit from other teams.

Keep in mind you already have teams like the Nike teams which are only playing Nike events and just a few others. This again is reducing the player pool in general. All of these different forces are changing AAU and I don't believe we know where its going yet.

I believe that Div 2 provides an AAU atmosphere and allows teams that have a goal other than the Nationals a chance to play other similar quality teams without the recruited powerhouse teams being a factor, in general I think it may help balance some of the negative issues that are tearing at AAU.

  12. One team that is going to be tough is the McMinn Fire 15u team. This is the team's first year playing AAU, but the team has been playing together for about 6 years in different tourns. Alot of the parents didn't want to spend the money for AAU cert. at an age when no one was going to be looking at them. In that time they have beaten about every team that they have come up against and even played up a couple of years to get tougher competition. All but two of these girls are freshmen that made up McMinn Central's Varsity that made it to the elite eight in state AA. Two to three of them starting on varsity and the rest getting lots of time off the bench. Having not played AAU before I can't say that they will win, but I will say that there had best be a very tough team out there somewhere if they are going to be stopped.

I believe that the Fire did play AAU before and may even have been in some substates but I think you had a player or 2 that were older than the age group they played in. If thats not correct please correct me!

  13. Wrong again, "JustDoIT"... I am pulling for Cleveland all the way. Love Coach Powell and the girls. Just because I pull for Shelbyville, does not mean I won't pull for the Lady Raiders also.. And, believe it or not, there are many who respect the Shelbyville program that are NOT from there. Two classy coaches who replace Insell and a great group of girls. The fans are unbelievable. Last night they brought FOUR buses to support the boys team. You don't find many schools with that kind of support. You can't help but admire the programs. But again, it is possible to cheer on two teams at the state.

TNwareagle, I don't recall being wrong a first time (HaHa). It is good to hear that you will also support one of your local teams. And I will admit I Must be wrong when Fish5 fom WI says he is a Ville fan I would say he does not fit the Homer profile. But Fish you have to know that before shelbyville even was known for Bball, Bradley High School (TN) and Coach Jim Smiddy had already brought TN to the National stage for girls ball. I don't think even Ville fans would argue that!

  14. I am from outside of Bedford County and I am definitley rooting for them to win. They have two of the best coaches in the state in Coach Burkey and Harlow. Nobody expected them to be where they are after losing Insel, but they are back. Also, they have great people playing for them and supporting them. Good luck Eaglettes and especially Kayla. Shoot the lights out Thursday night!!!!!!

You might as well be from Shelbyville as much time as you spent there! I don't think anyone who spent as much time playing for the SSS/Flight and who has signed with MTSU could help but be biased for Shelbyville. Further connections with Harlow and Burkey make you a complete homer. Thats okay you like who you like however you don't run into many people outside of Bedford county and the SSS / Flight group who pull the Ville.

If you don't mind I think I wil pull for Cleveland I know you wont though.

    Good Luck to all!

  15. Need a 2 and 3 for an existing team in SE TN. The Hoopstars are based in the area within about 40 miles of Cleveland. Most practices take place in Bradley and Polk Counties. Hoopstars team has competed with good success for the last 5 years.

If interested please respond by e-mail!

What are you looking for we have some girls in the SE TN area that are looking for a team closer than the team that they have been playing on. We have seen the Hoopstars play in the past and you seem to have a very good team. You generally seem to only carry around 10 and seem to play them all is that still your approach?

    Thanks

  16. Oh you are so so so smart. lol. That just makes me think you are smart. besides, these two teams if you do remember have been in the pass powerhouses and just because the first of the season is over doesn't make them any less of a powerhouse. Get over your stupidity.

Do you 2 know each other? Is school in or out? Are we talking about basketball or something else, your posts have left me baffled (Def: Confused ). When are you holding class again?

  17. I would like to add that whoever stated that Oak Ridge wouldn't get out of the Region does not know alot about Basketball. I think that Oak Ridge will not only get out of the Region but will be playing in Murfreesboro in March. I still think that it will be Heritage and Oak Ridge. I know that Cait is down but this team is still winning alot of ball games without her. Oak Ridge has the KeKe Stewart inside and noone can stop her one on one. I really gets to me how people get on here and say how they shut KeKe down. Guarding her with three players usually will cause a player not to score as much. Watch out for Kortni Jones and Raegan Thompson, Prudden has these two youngs kids believing and giving KeKe the help she needs will make this team a state contender.

As for Raegan Thompson coming to Oak Ridge, how can you blame this kid for wanting to play for a coach like Jill Prudden. Don't get on here and bash someone for making a smart move. Probably just jealous that your kid is not good enough to play for Oak Ridge.

    Wow,

Glad to see you back Lowtime 7, have missed you calling kids names, and or degrade kids since your kin left the high school scene. Knew that you would have to get involved sooner or latter when a SSS / Flight player was involved. Guess as we get closer to AAU season we can look forward to more of your valuable wisdom (lack) and knowledge (lack) unfortuanately.

Do you really know that the player is not good enough to make the OR team, or that the person posting really has a daughter that plays Bball? Probably not but it makes you feel important I guess.

  18. Coacht.com,

I said if you would go back and read, it is a Blue Star event. Blue Star is a national women's basketball recruiting scouting service. The money goes back into the kids. It is not free at all to run a event at a site and it also cost help. Noone in this area gets the money from the event but the kids get around 100 colleges to watch them on this one 5 1/2 hour day. I think it a great opportunity for all kids and parents. I don't care if your website publlishes this event or not cause it will be a successful event with your support or not.

The real question is where the plus membership money go? How come this website is not free and Give a Free Website for the promotion of KIDS  B)  :D  B)

    825726829

Wow Showtime, take advantage of several years of free advertising for the SSS and for Shelbyville Team Camps, and the coin that these events turn, and you know that the SSS does profit in oneway or another. If it did not you would not want to host the substate every year or look to host super regionals.

I don't think anyone questions the effort and time that is put into running this website and its overall great performance. The information supplied herein and the ability to post anyones opinion (even yours) is great.

If because you went outside the bounds of the normal free advertising provided by CoachT and they asked you for a small amount of money for the advertising and you felt this unfair then advertise on the SSS or Shelbyville site. Oh yeah the SSS is never complete and can't even post results for it own tournaments or substate. I guess the SSS should charge a fee so that it can have a complete website oh yea you do charge fees and have sponsors but don't have even a semi informative site.

Its difficult for me to imagine how you can complain about a service you have taken such advantage of over the years.

I think you should just quit using CoachT (PLEASE).

  19. Bad advice for the kids.  Why would 50 - 100 coaches come to an event if they are not looking for prospective athletes.  It is an opportunity for a kid to get in front of some college coaches and get that initial contact.  It can also show the players where they stack up against other good players within the state.  Where else are some of the girls going to get this type of exposure for a few bucks?  My daughter has gone several times  over the past few years and we are pleased with the event and the exposure she has received.

    825726313

Can Showtime7 or you guarantee that their will be 50-100 College coaches at the event, or even 15, how many will be there? Further Showtime has not yet answered to who / or what school / or what program this seemingly lucrative camp will profit.

Again if its for the kids reduce the cost or make it a PR project for the SSS / Nike companies and let them sponsor it.

Further the majority of kids going to this are already known, and play AAU and HS ball and should have a good idea of where they stack up against others!

  20. The money does not go to a individual. Exposure events are really good for the kids and getting them seen so if this website does not want to publize events of this matter then I will take it to another website. Exposure events in basketball are for the KIDS and help them get schlorships B)

    825725779

Well then tell us to whom, what organization, or school the money goes to. I'm assuming that MTSU does not need to let its new coach make money in this way as it should be able to pay him more than his old HS job including the SSS perks.

Further I believe there are some recruiting rules that the NCAA would look at if MTSU were using this as a recruiting tool at this time for high schoolers. So again who or what school is the money going to.

Seems like CoachT has certainly let you advertise alot of AAU tournaments and High School Camps without probelm as it was obvious to whom the money is going to, it is less obvious as to where this money is going to, and as already pointed out it would seem to be very lucrative to someone. However if its a service to the girls for their advancement maybe you could do it for much less or as PR for the SSS / NIKE at no charge.

Otherwise it would seem prudent to pay for the amount of focused advertising your getting on CoachT for this noble / worthy and lucrative cause. If not, don't advertise until all of your school and SSS activities begin and advertising is free.

  21. hi this is kate woodard.  i've never posted anything on coacht before but i thought i needed to post on here thoughts straight from the source.  right now i am sitting in the hospital bed and am doing fine.  my breathing, bloodcount, temperature, etc. is all in a pretty healthy state.  i should be out of the hostpital in about 10 days from now and then will recover at my house for an aditional 2 weeks or so.  i will return to school in about a month and may possibly be able to play by the end of the high school season.  i thought by posting here i would be able to reach a lot of people at one time.  i would like to thank EVERYONE who has come by, called, or prayed for me.  i cannot even begin to express how thankful i am for all of your thoughts and caring actions.  my soccer team, the people at FRA, and the soccer community throughout tennessee has been wonderful and i am so grateful for your support.  what happened to me last saturday was nothing more than an unfortunate play where i collided with a well respected forward who was doing nothing more than trying to put the ball in the back of the net.  there have been some reports and rumors flying around and i would like to set them straight. i am in no way angry or upset at the situation.  although i would give anything to be back on the field on my team, i understand that injuries are a part of soccer and are just another part of the game that you have to work hard to overcome.  thank you to everyone who has been there for me this past week.  i am really thankful, especially to my best friends lyndsey almon and kendra wills who have been here to check up on me EVERYDAY.  i love you all and cannot wait until i see everyone back on the field!

    825720099

Great to hear that you are doing better, and hope you continue the good progress.

Very nice of you to understand that no one intended to hurt you, but that it was just an accident which unfortunately is part of any sport.

We will continue to pray for you!
