  1. Both teams have a host of players in foul trouble already. WC has one with three. Cosby has 3 with 2. Both teams in the bonus...
  2. Winner of the game now gets Oliver Springs...
  3. Give Jordan Douglas an honorable mention. She nearly single handedly beat Cocke county in the quarterfinals.
  4. Big 9 Sweep Science Hill beats Cocke County by 87-53 DB beats Greeneville 50-39 Greeneville led 9-5 after one, but DB outscored them 23-11 in the second, for the turning point of the game.
  5. Better win this game. Going to Oliver Springs (the likely scenario) in the sectional won't be too much fun for the loser of this one.
  6. West 47 - 44 in OT... West or Greeneville better win. Loser won't have much fun in Oak Ridge (likely scenario)
  7. Some points on a busy hour here. The Regional quarterfinal Satellite Site was implemented by the TSSAA beginning last year. Reasons were limiting travel and a long day of playing four games at one site on a weekday (Monday's for the girls and Tuesday's for the boys). Playing a 4:15, 5:45, 7:15 and an 8:45 game was getting the school's that played the last game back way past 11 p.m on a school night. The TSSAA also prohibited playing no more than two games on a weeknight during tournament season. Officials for the regional tournaments come from other regions (ie: Region 1 is officiated by Region 2 officials and vice-versa). The Region 2 officials are notable for allowing the game to be played more like college ball. The Cocke County/Science Hill girls game had 11 total first half fouls called and only two traveling calls all night. That causes a lot of adaptation in the early going for team's, who are used to seeing a certain style of officiating for most of the season. Teams in Region 1 have to adapt to a more physical style of play, because it takes a lot for a foul call. Teams in Region 2 likely have to back off or get in serious foul trouble with their physical play. The District 2-AAA tourney is - to my understanding - not going to be played at Greeneville every other year. It seems that the ADs wanted to get the tourney in an alphabetical rotation, much like the other sports tournaments are. Basketball wasn't in this rotation because previously, District 2 and District 1 rotated years to have the regional tournament. District 2 had 3 gyms capable of hosting a regional tournament (Greeneville, Morristown East and Jefferson County). Because the TSSAA mandated that a regional site be centrally located, Greeneville was the pick of D2 and Sullivan South was the pick of D1. Because the D2 ADs preferred a school to host districts and regionals in their year, they had established a rotation of where those schools would host the tournaments in those years. Because this is no longer needed, the D2 ADs went to an alphabetical rotation. The new rotation is Greeneville, Jefferson County, Morristown East, Morristown West, then back to Cherokee and Cocke County. As far as POTY is concerned. Nicole Dickson was a possibility for the award as a sophomore. I dont think the award is a senior award, either. I'm sure robpride has seen his fair share of hoops too.
  8. Science hill beat Jefferson county 62 40. Toppers led 31 to 26 at halftime.
  9. Cocke county beat east 67 to 62 East started 0 for 12 from three and had only 2 points in the first quarter. Cocke county led 30 to 12 before east hit 2 threes in the final 30 seconds. East led after 3 by a 41 40 margin. Sullivan really hit their threes in that quarter and scored a lot of their points that way. CCHS held on down the stretch with big free throws and buckets. Intense crowd on hand. A near capacity crowd.
  10. Cocke County turned the ball over 10 more times than Science Hill (mostly unforced turnovers in the margin of difference). Cocke County led 15-10 at the end of one and 19-10 in the 2nd quarter. Science Hill outscored them 48-26 the rest of the way home. Cocke County did pull to within 47-43 with 338 to play and had the ball, but shot an ill-advised three, and SH went on a 12-2 run to close the game. SH scored 23 4th quarter points, one more than Cocke County scored the entire second half. The beginning of SH's run in the first half came when they pounced on the press and used their speed. It looked like Cocke County was gassed at halftime.
  11. Saw the highlights of the Science Hill game from Monday. Their guard height was pretty eye-opening. They have about 2-3 inches on Buda and Suggs.

  14. Its very rare that a MVP or MOP is selected from the losing team. Billy Packer tried to make a case for Greg Oden to get it last year, when he had better stats than Brewer, but I think 95% of the time, the player comes from the winning team. I thought for a moment that they may have given it to Smith, when they announced the two girls from West, then moved to Greeneville, but then went back to Smith. I see no fault with McIntyre getting it. She had 15 last night I think and hit 4 big first half three-point shots. In fact, she really should've gotten it last year, too (and told last year's committee the same thing). She had double digits in both games and hit the game-winner in that tight one against Cocke County.
  15. Not sure of the results, but both games will be close. The interesting thing about the consolation game, is the winner could play themselves into Greeneville's bracket, if the Lady Devils win tonight. Of course, the consolation winner would have to win on the road on Friday to find themselves in a semifinal with Greeneville. Things would be even more interesting if TN High lost and Greeneville won, matching those teams up in the quarterfinals, eliminating one of the probable two strongest teams. Tough to win on the road on Friday. Last year 22 games (out of 96) featured road winners. Boys regional games had 25 of 96 games with road winners. Regional Tourney Schedule Quarterfinals Games @ Gym of Higher Seeds --- Friday, Feb 22 7 PM G1 - D2 #1 vs D1 #4 G2 - D1 #2 vs D2 #3 G3 - D1 #1 vs D2 #4 G4 - D2 #2 vs D3 #3 Semifinals Monday, Feb 25 @ Hal Henard Gym G5 6 PM - Game 1 Winner vs Game 2 Winner G6 - 7:30 PM - Game 3 Winner vs Game 4 Winner (* Winners advance to sub-state round) Finals Wednesday, Feb 27 @ Hal Henard Gym G7 - 7 PM - Game 5 Winner vs Game 6 Winner (* Winner claims home court advantage in sub-state round)
  16. speaking of officials, the tournament - both boys and girls - has been very well officiated. Also, didnt see anyone mention this, but a nice gesture by the Greeneville staff to participate in the breast cancer awareness deal by wearing pink last Friday.
  17. He also forced Cocke County to move away from their inside game. The Lady Red scored 38 points from their big 3 (Pruitt, Depew and Sprouse) in the last game. He pretty much went zone, confused Cocke County and forced them to settle for jumpers and three's. They did hit a season-high 5 3-pointers, but it took them 18 shots to do that. Cocke County's offense doesn't look to attack the basket enough in my opinion. They had 18 points from the guards in the game, and 12 came with three-point shots. Both Suggs and Buda are quick enough to get to the basket, much as West did with Fanney.
  18. See the above post. The #1 seed from District 1 will become either the 3 or 4 in the Regional tourney and play District 2's 1 or 2 seed. That will put District 1's current 2 and 4 hosting the teams that will come out of District 2's consolation game. It may not be much of a break, as all four of the Big 9's teams that are in the regional are similiar, but I would think both coaches would prefer to avoid playing the first place regular season finisher on their home court in an elimination game.
  19. TN High is the one seed. Either one of those teams will get District 1's 2 or 4. May not be a break given that, but it beats going to the top seed.
  20. West played very well and exploited a ton of mis-matches on Cocke County. Cocke County had the better match-up overall, but some of the assignments were questionable, I thought. West's speed also allowed them to get past the guards and to the hoop. Cocke County's offense was vanilla, with little attacking the basket and it showed in the second half as CC settled for jumpers and West attacked the hoop (and hit about every 3 they shot, without anyone in their face). West outscored CC 34-23 in the second half. CC (and Cherokee) may have caught the break though with DB upsetting TN High and Science Hill beating Sullivan South.
  21. No posts on semifinal night? Cherokee and Greeneville should be interesting if the Lady Chiefs can crack the Greeneville defense. Thats a big if, but Cherokee performed well against Jefferson County. Morristown West and Cocke County is another interesting game. Cocke County has beaten West four straight, and Cocke County has a distinct size advantage in the paint. But if Kelly Smith is hitting from the outside, look out.
  22. Yes. Region 1-AAA Quarterfinals are at the site of the higher seed on 2/22. Tip-off is 7 PM. Region 1-AAA Semis are on Monday 2/25 at Hal Henard. I think tip times are going to be set for 6 and 7:30 p.m. Region 1-AAA Finals are on 2/27 also at Hal Henard. Tip time should be 7 PM. (Region 1-AAA boys quarters are at the site of the higher seed on 2/23. Tip time at 7 pm. Semifinals on 2/26 at Hal Henard and finals on 2/28 at Hal Henard)
  23. Yes they are seperate. I'm not sure how they are notified.
