  1. Injuries can be debated, argued and hid-behind forever even after wrestling, so why waste internet time on it. There is no debating the fact that maryville has a wealth of coaching knowlege and earned respect as men on and off the mat. Howevever, if you want to be the best, you have to wrestle the best. That means leaving your back yard and risking loosing a region plaque. Most dont relize that maryville is hendered by overly strict rules on missing block classes. They were the only team that had to endure an appreciated late weigh-in allowance at bradley. The catch -22 situation faced here is the AD as well as teachers are forced to lean on there school board policies (not missing blocks) for all sports events other than the holy football. Due to football success, they can operate at will. Senior players were all allowed to miss a full day to attend the Mr. football banquet. What will have to take place in my opinion is this: Parents of a team with potential to be better i.e. wrestling will have to approach the school board in #s to ease up on the rules. Secondly the parents will have to insure that this team can come up with the funds to cover the extra travel cost. Third the parents must convey to the coaches their faith in them as well as their kids to rise to the next level. By the way, Landon Hall has had asthma, and a torn MCL since 9th grade and has never missed a match or given less than a 100% at practice. He is risking loosing his football scholarship to practice and compete. Matter of fact, he is on the mat at this moment. He may never get the attention that blount counties 'best wresters' get but he understands what its all about and has never backed down from any local, state or nationaly ranked opponet. This, while doing the extra training to be on top and extra homework to keep academics in proper perspective. For this, he will always have my admiration and knows were I think he ranks.
  2. Go for it! Great thing about the sport is you can get on the internet and grab a pair of clearance shoes for $20 (trust me they are all alike). This is basicly the only cost other than gallons of sweat! Also a boy your size has a better chance of coming in and being competitive. Drawing on 25 years of experiance on the mat and in the corner; the upper classes rely more on strength, balance, and speed and less technique than the lower classes. I'm not trying to start a debate here ( I as well as my son wrestled mid to heavy weights). What happens most of the smaller weight classes have wrestlers with more years on the mat because the sport appealed to them at a young age due to their small frame and weight classes available to them. Larger kids such as yourself often grow so fast they losose their coordination and balance and nothing helps more than wrestling. If I had a large potential 'lineman' son or coached line football, I would strongly incourage giving this sport a try. What I tell kids' If they are competitive and want to improve speed, balance and learn the best form of self defense ever 'Go For It'.
  3. Gues you can argue about something that will never happen forever so I'll throw in my 2 pennies. I've watched MHS for 4 years. Hoover for 1 and John Curtis (who delivered but wuppin to Hoover ) for about 20. The thing I found that Maryville does better than any other high school program is clean up what few problems they bring to the field. The rare times first string is needed the second half they are as close to perfect as humanly possible. Never seen such a group of talented coachs (thats plural) that leave their egos behind and work so well together. together with a talented team a winning attitude and the often forgotten black swarm defense I'd go with MHS. On a different topic who cares if MHS is 4 or 5A; their scrimmage against DB (9&0 #1 5A) this year was a stompin.
  4. i think your just in denial because who ever you are rooting for is just not producing and your team will never have the class and success that maryville does.
  5. its GREENE by the way but great post rebel ron you have just summed up why maryville is such a great team.
  6. bs, the keeper was terrible. The first goal he waited till the last second to come out when he had all day to get the ball and on the free kick he was behind the wall like a retard and didnt even try for the ball. The shot was not hard at all & most keepers would have easily saved it.
  7. Adam Cable from Maryville majored Shane Reviez 11-4 at the Hall's invite and is wrestling 189!!!! Not 215!
  8. I believe he is Thomas Schlitt. He is stronger than any 130 I have ever seen. His only problem is that he slams his opponents. ( Disqualified out of two major matches for slamming and hurting his opponents)
  9. I believe Landon Hall (Maryville) Was decisioned by an Alabama 160#, but is 36 - 0 with TN wrestlers at 152, 160, & 171.
  10. Where is the tournamant being held?
  11. Are there any tournaments still looking for teams for this coming weekend (1-29)?
