I believe that TSSAA has turned its back on the little schools in Basketball, Baseball, and Softball. If you have a school with over 400-500 students, you should be able to find enough quality athletes to field a team in these three sports. When you are dealing with less than 200 and the gender is split, it becomes very difficult to field these teams competitively. Most of the time there are not enough kids to go around. That means no JV, no bench, and many lean years in between the good ones. When TSSAA raises the numbers in single A, it only further widens the gap for the small schools to be competitive. An example is O.S. in Basketball. They are consistently competitve at the 2-A level and now they will be 1-A. I think it may be time for the small schools to break away and form their own organization. The only problem is finding enough coaches and administrators that are tired of taking it on the chin and getting it stuck to them to step up and demand equal treatment. By the way, I am also upset about the new play-off regulations in which many 1-A schools will never be allowed to hold a District or Region playoff game because they are too small. Kind of ironic, don't you think?javascript:emoticon('')
