  1. Previous coach left without schedule and still scratching together a couple things. the tournemanet we used to go be a part of is full and need to find a replacment. any openings or leads within reason to Knoxville would be greatly appreciated. Coach Puckett Karns Wrestling <><
  2. Just killing time and stumbled across thread(coached by Stubbs back in the 70's). Recognized name Shane Boggs. Read article stating that he won the Georgia AA state championship in 2007 that is a bit misleading. He won the GISA AA state title (had coached in the GISA and remembered his name from playing Brookwood in 05). The GISA is a "private school" league. If interested in what GHSA fans think about the GISA check out http://forums.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=37. I will say the Brookwood team we played was VERY WELL coached. I am just a bit surprised at Him being at THS.

  4. Coach Elia and the young Bucs looked impressive last night in a 33-27 win over Spartanburg Methodist. Trailing rolling into the 165lb match ETSU had pins at 165 (Shields), 174 (Puckett), and 197 (Carter) to pull ahead and had the match sealed with a barn burner at 235 (Harrison) pulling out a 7-4 dec over a highly ranked SMC opponent. The young men are having fun and are starting to crank out the wins. This has not gone unnoticed as ETSU moved to # 16 the latest coaches poll. ETSU wrestling has proven to be a very positive experience for the young men who have chosen to continue their wrestling careers. It is exciting as a parent and fan to see them build memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. Wrestling continues to help build these young men into leaders that will serve their families and communities well in the future. Thank you Coach Elia for your investment into their future!
  5. The Bucs pulled out a solid win today over fellow NCWA Mid-Atlantic region foe MTSU 30-26. From what I could tell MTSU did move some guys around (missed weight)but a take down in the last 6 seconds at 174 and a BIG pin at 285 (I believe that the MTSU 197 was wrestling here)proved to be the difference. Coach Knepper appears to have the Blue Raiders poised for a run, it was just GREAT to see ETSU with a full line up (minus a hurt 184)of young guys really working hard. As a long time region 2 guy it was very cool to see so many familiar faces for both teams not to mention the guys in stands looking forward to joining the teams next year. Can't wait to see these guys get after it again!
  6. Ok just erased a rant on the entire athletic program, only came back to answer the question. He was offered by 3 small schools and had a lot of interest from others. He choose to go to ETSU as a part of their inaugural wrestling class. Coach Elia (hall of fame coach from CN) has a tremendous plan to build the brand new ETSU wrestling program into a driving force for the sport in Tennessee. He was really missing football until he got to campus and started to practice, but I think he still wants to suit it and bust heads. He did say that if they bring back football at ETSU he was going to walk on (never say never to the program coming back). thanks for asking
  7. With over 12 years of HS coaching (multi sports, as head, coordinator and asst) this is EXACTLY what I ALWAYS taught my athlete's should NOT do and that is quit. Life is tough! High school sports should be about preparing young men and women to handle what life is going to throw at them. There are going to be days when you do nothing right in the eyes of your spouse, boss and friends! Is this attitude that you want to take into your life? When things get rough, just quit and run away? From a pragmatic standpoint (not to mention, and more important, Scriptural standpoint) if we are to overcome adversity and stand firm (as a man, woman or person of faith) it can not be accomplished by quitting and running away! I had a dog in this lot for 3 years. There was a time according to at least 1 of the coaches he was the worst football player to ever suit up. What he got at home when we discussed this was me ( a long time former coach) DEFENDING the coach. No, I did not use these tactics (learned a long time ago people respond when the know you care about them and I always use the 80-20 principle {positive-negative}. The coach was using many of the same tactics that was used on me back in the day that I (and he) played. His intentions were (and are) to develop players and young men. I KNOW THAT many (if not most) of the modern player do not respond to these methods. My question to is this, how many "man to man" talks did you have with these coaches? Did you ever even try to understand their point of view? I know my son did and he began to understand and he entire outlook changed (life lesson learned!) Before you think I am one those support at all cost the last coach, I was EXTREMELY upset with MANY things I saw from schemes, clock management, player management and probably the most was with the lack of integrity IE doing what you say you are going to do as a coach. I have remained silent, but these young men NEED SUPPORT now more than ever! I for one am glad I am not on this staff. It has became a very unenviable position for ALL involved. 09 you have made your point time and time again, MOVE ON! You know in this world there is only ONE person that we can control and that is ourselves. These guy's (for their future spouses, bosses, children and families sake) need to press forward OVERCOMING this very difficult situation. You want to be a friend to these players, encourage to do their best IN SPITE of the situation! This will help develop them as winners in life, and that is what high school athletics are really about. Mike Puckett <><
  8. I am very curious; didn't really understand the last bit of this post. My dog in the fight has moved on but still have some kids that I really would like to see succeed and did I miss something? Maybe I can't read real well but is Reeves gone? the "well he is gone have we seen the coaches resign" has me wondering. and what does the very last sentence mean? and by the by who is the new AD?
  9. its actually a camel going through the needle not the rich man and in the greek camel can be translated as a large rope which makes sense, and as far as the rich stuff you need to think on a global scale even the poorest of us here (usa) would be considered very rich so that is all of us. if you are going to use scripture against us atleast get it right. i will be the first to tell you how bad of a christian i am because i know who god is and how much i am not like him THANK GOD FOR THE CROSS!!! King, My children attended both public and private (Christian) schools. You statement on "true" Christians not sending their child to a private Christian school maybe that parent just doesn't want their little johnny or sally going through metal detectors and police shake downs because of gang activity at their school. I will say that they have had strong Christian teachers in both public and private locations, but there is a real issue of violence present that would not have been even dreamed of when I was young. You also made probably the most accurate statement I have read on here that being the MEANNESS of Christians. This is so true! Satan has a real ally in those who profess with their mouths Christ and turn around and curse (lie, destroy, manipulate) out of that same mouth (see James 3 for more info). i have been around church and Christian schools for over 35 years seeing the INSIDE and I am APPALLED at some of the things that Christians do to EACH OTHER (what ever happened to unity, edification and treating (loving) others as Christ loved us?) and I can't see those who do these things "in the name of Jesus" not facing some kind of repercussions. Dliine, the word you mention for "big rope" is actually spelled DIFFERENT (kamelos=camel; kamilos=cable) just sound similar (and is the cable used to tie ships to dock). If you investigate this verse further (a rather absurd sounding statement of hyperbole) you would find that during the time if Christ that walled cities had two kinds of gates one large for commerce and animals to enter and the other much smaller (the size of a man) was called commonly (you may have guessed it) the "Needle's eye". It would have been a very understandable image to the hearer a large camel trying to enter a gate that only large enough for a person. I really am VERY VERY leery about saying that those who WROTE Scripture (in this case the apostle Matthew) made a mistake or even if a later "transcriber" made an error you open up a rather large can worms that you are going to have a hard time putting them back in. For ALL Christian schools make sure that you leaders are adhering to 1 Timothy 6:3ff

  11. DB's 189 Craig Carter (reg 1 champ) has a tough road with Mustin and Norwood in his group but he has had a great year with 50 wins and 36 pins. I bleieve that he could be a real sleeper @ 189. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
  12. Played back up to a very good junior QB ( Kyle Boden ). If he to play QB a transfer was his best bet. Did they move? I believe that the family must have a legitimate change of address.
  13. We are expecting most of the Knoxville area teams as well Science Hill, Tennessee High and others from region 1.

  15. Just curious, how can a team have a total of 288 solo tackles while their opponents only run a total of 139 plays? The team stats could be a bit off for the opposition, yet the team itself has only ran 280 plays. I guess I need a better understanding of "solo tackle". Someone please help?
