  1. Regarding this hire by Lexington.  Carr did not seek out Lexington. The Tigers went Carr shopping. An offer, with a substantial pay increase was made. Carr gave Milan the opportunity to meet, beat, or just get reasonably close the the Tiger Town offer. The management at The Purple Puppy Palace declined the opportunity.

I've been told that the inside politics at Milan can be difficult to deal with. Funny thing is, I've heard the same thing about politics in Tiger Town as well.

Thinking of you, @ReitzFan, as we are less than 29 hours away from the first of two region games against the same opponent and cannot get rosters from anyone. Of course they're not on the TSSAA website.

yes we have a tssaa state quarterfinal game Saturdayin Murfreesboro. Our AD has asked for a roster and I have emailed both the coach and AD. Seeing that we are paying a huge TSSAA extortion fee to the school to stream the game, you would think they could at least send us a roster. They could also post it on their web site, with the TSSAA, COACH T, or one of a few other places. It's not that hard coaches, AD'S and schools. Get with the program. Good nite Irene!!!

  3. The King's Academy and Trinity Christian will tangle on Wednesday at PCA in Murfreesboro.  At stake is an opportunity to play in the TSSAA D2A quartfinals on Saturday. A FREE videostream of this game will be available  beginning at 5:45 central time on the link below: https://www.facebook.com/TrinityChristianLions

Yours truely, Stan Gerard, will have the call. I hope you enjoy the broadcast

I don't see the problem in this? Were they actually coaches? Or were they volunteers helping out the team? Was it lower level coaches, such as a freshman team or JV team? They would not be required to sit on the bench then. How is it different than players taking instructions from parents?

They were clearly giving instruction during the game. They were talking with officials trying to "work them.

  5. While at a basketball game this week, I came across something strange and I'd love to hear the opinions of others. A team arrived with 4 coaches All4 worked with the team in pregamwarm-ups. However, when the game started only 2 were on the bench. As it turns out, the other 2 coaches took up seats in the home teams section on the front row at mid court. They were giving players instructions from the opposite side from where their bench was. At half time the got up and went straight to the locker room. When it was time for the second half, they came out with the team and went back to the seats they occupied during the fist half where they repeated their coaching antics from the first half. At games end, they went back to the locker room and came back outwit the team and loaded the bus and left.

My question is simple, was what they did illegal in the eyes of the TSSAA? Or, was it unethical or just unsportsmanlike like?

What say you Coach T members?

Waiting on the Ken Northcutt/North Side experiment to end...

Why? It's not always about wins and losses.  You have no idea how bad of shape the North Side was in before Ken Northcut arrived. He literally had to teach them how to inbound a basketball. He had to teach the meaning of the various lines on a court. It was a disaster of epic proportions before he arrived. The school system should thank their lucky stars that he took the job.Its not always about wins and losses. It is about a coach to be a good role m!odel for his teams. It's about teaching his players how to not only respect others, but respect themselves. Ken Northcut is doing GODS work at North Side. The school, and the school system in general,  should feel very lucky to have Ken Northcut on staff!

  7. One thing that just kills me is schools who don't report their games scores to the TSSAA site, or to coach t, or the unapproved site, or even list a schedule/results on their own web site

  8. Tuesday evening saw two members of the Trinity Christian Academy Boys team, Kaleb Williams and Brayden Waller join the 1000 point club. Williams joined by hitting his third three point shot of the 1st quarter with about 6 minutes to go. Waller topped the 1000 piont club less than 4 minutes later in the same first quarter on a 3 point shot.

I'm sure there are many teams who have had 2 members make this exclusive club in the same year. My question for all you boys basketball history buffs is has any high school in Tennessee ever had two players join the 1000 point club in the same game? Have any players accomplished this feat in the same quarter of the same game before as well?

I believe I witnessed something very very rare on Tuesday night.

    What say you sports fans?

That was an awesome game. One of the best boys games I have seen in a while. We play Peabody next Tuesday or I would sure be at it. No telling how many people will show up for the next game after the one tonight. Both teams very good.

Intense crowd and a great atmosphere much like what I was use to from my youth in Indiana so long ago. The game more than lived up to the hype. A couple of controversial moments ended up playing a big part in the outcome. Still, if TCA does not give away an 11 point lead, then the controversial incidents don't matter.  I can peromise you Coach Williams will have the Lions ready to rumble come next week. What happened tonight wont happen next week. USJ will be jam packed on Tuesday, February 8 for the rematch with the district title hanging in the balance. It will be must see basketball.  I will have the livestream that night as well.

  10. Huge boys basketball game on Monday as USJ (18-4, 7-1) makes the short trip to do battle with Trinity Christian (16-5, 6-1). First place in the district is on the line with just over a week remaining before the start of post season play. A standing room only crowd is expected to witness the battle between the neighboring schools.  The game will be livestreamed on Monday beginning at 5:45. Dave McCulley and Stan Gerard will have the TCA call at https://www.facebook.com/TrinityChristianLions . The boys battle will tip at the conclusion of the girls contest.

Our softball announcer repeatedly has issues with coaches that refuse to hand over a lineup/roster card. I’ve never understood the logic of refusing to give a public address announcer a resource that is helping your players and fans.

or they give you a lineup card with last names only. It takes time to properly fill out a scorebook for broadcast purposes. Coaches that delay giving lineup cards to PA or broadcast media are just rude. They think they are playing chess with the other teams coach but it's just a stupid game

    • Thanks 1
  12. Dyer County at #3 in 3A was destroyed by TCA over the holidays for their only loss, yet the Lions can't get any love from the pollsters. So TCA goes out and beats up D2A #6 on their home court.

Dexter has TCA playing really well.

I will just say this and be finished with this thread. It is the AD at fault not the coach. Ridiculous to get on here and slam the coach for not providing a roster to the radio. It is the AD not the coach. come on man

You obviously have never had to request multiple rosters per week for a season. Could not tell you how many times I've talked to the AD, or the athletic secretary (the real AD) asking for a roster and they say I'll have to get that from the coach. So there's that. Personally, all schools should be required to send in numerical rosters before a season starts to the TSSAA.  You type it up on a piece of paper or in a computer and email it. Wham bam, thank you mam.  Sending it to other sites nce per sport per season is not that hard or time consuming. There are just certain coaches and schools who are lazy. They then wonder why they don't get more coverage.   Fortunately,  after the first round of district competition the problem usually goes away.

Baseball coaches who won't release a starting lineup and batting order until minutes before first pitch are another breed as well. I could write a book about that. Lol

Since we are on rosters, anyone got Creekwood's?  McKenzie plays them tomorrow night.  Email to mckenzierebelsports@gmail.com

a girls roster with numbers is on MaxImUm prEps with 13 players. Boys roster has 24 players listed with no numbers. No rosters for either team submitted to TSSAA SITE. school site has email addresses for each teams coach listed under winter sports

I don't see this as a coach responsibility during the season. I see this clearly an Athletic Director responsibility. The coach gives the information to the AD and from that point forward the AD should communicate with outside people. When I was teaching (Not Coaching) I had a ton of emails to answer everyday, lesson plans, evaluations, exams, parent meetings, grading work, teaching, etc... every day. I could not imagine being a coach on top of all that. So I think you are wrong slamming coaches for not getting the radio guys a roster. you should be slamming AD's

Let me say that the vast majority of coaches are happy to get broadcasters a numerical roster upon request in a timely manner. It is a select few that won't send a roster or they send a roster with no player numbers attached. Like another poster said, providing a numerical roster upon request is not that hard. The vast majority will provide the requested information. The biggest problem comes when a roster is sent WITH NO NUMBERS.   There is no excuse for that to happen. I find that to be a trait of certain basketball coaches as I have never had that happen with any other sport I cover.

In regards to  athletic directors, in a perfect world they would be the ones to deal with concerning rosters. But especially a small schools, the AD us usually already a coach, a vice principal, or they teach a full load.

I'm not arguing that a coach be responsible for "creating" a roster and delivering it to the other team for each game...I'm saying that basketball coaches have from July to practice the team and set their lineup... surely  they can compile a list of players that are members of the team with grade, position, height, and jersey number between July and November! The AD should have every head coaches roster on file and be able to forward the roster on demand. If that's too much to ask, someone isn't too proficient at their job.

Bingo to the above post! I will also say that in all my years covering sports in West Tennessee,  I have NEVER received a roster from a football coach that was not numbered numerically correct. It is a BASKETBALL problem!

  17. Just sat down to type up score sheets using a roster that was sent to me this afternoon for a girls game on Tuesday (tomorrow). You guessed it.  Another roster with no numbers!!!!!

What do these coaches think they are gaining by doing this garbage? The thing is, the roster in question came from a long time and well respected coach who knows better!!!

I would not bother a coach for this! The coach has enough going on. All School have an Athletic Director. Contact the Athletic Director and they should take care of that. I don't see this as being a coach's responsibility to make sure the radio guys have a roster. He/She really don't have time to be worried about that. Teach all day, grade assignments, prep students for testing, practice, watch film, game plan, etc... I would say getting the radio a roster is pretty low on the list.

I always first go to the schools AD or athletic secretary. Unfortunately,  too many of then say they have to get it from the coach! You have a roster printed up and on file at the beginning of the season. A request from media comes in a few times a year. How hard can it be to send an email? It's not like they have to type up a new one and mail it. Make your numerical roster available on the TSSAA web site. That should be required. Make it available on other sites as well. Then coaches would not have the heavy burden of sending a roster to a media outlet trying to give his/her team coverage.
