  1. Thats the way to get hot going into the district tournament...lose to Symrna!!! You guys are absolutely ready for Fairview or Lewis County...then Giles County. I think you might actually keep it close this time...NOT. Congratulations to Page on an impressive loss.
  2. He's never had control. Tyler Smith coaches the team...LOL!!! On another thread that I read that was created by PageMan...the starters sat out half of the first quarter and half of the second quarter. If Holt is trying to get his other players some PT...then he has waited to long. These kids should started the 2nd half of games such as Page, Fairview, LO-Town where Giles County held a demanding lead. Simply putting the players in at the end of the 3rd quarter and letting them run up and down the court with no descipline is a heck of a teaching method. Those guys should have been put on the floor with 2 or 3 of the starters and let them play half-court basketball. I have never understood Holt's mentality when it comes to coaching...he never develops his bench early in the season so that down the stretch they will have experience and in some cases can bail you out of a tough situation when the starters are slacking. As a starter in any sport, there isn't anything more embarrassing or humiliating that making a mistake or playing lack lusterly, then the coach calls time out and sits your butt on the pine. That will get your attention in a hurry...
  3. It has been quiet a while since I pulled out the ole VHS tape to watch the ending of the GC vs. Bolivar game. I watched it over and over and over and over...without instant replay, there is no way to tell if it should have counted. TSSAA supplies the officials to each and every game. It is not like Giles County went out and picked these guys up off the street. I honestly believe it was Giles County's destiny to win that Gold Ball. They got two lucky breaks that year that could have sent them home wondering what could have been. I would just like to see them play again...this time where there is more at stake than a trip to the BORO. As far as what Catfish said...he is 100% correct. Coffey is just as capable of dropping 25 or 30 pts on any given night as anyone else in the state. The kid can play ball and if he and Smith both have excellent nights...I pity the team that they will play.
  4. LOL...Giles County couldn't play with Liberty on an off night. That is the funniest thing I have heard all year. Have you seen GC play??? I haven't seen Liberty play, but I will promise you one thing...Giles County will hang. Tyler Smith & Channing will keep Giles County in any game and if the rest of the starters are hitting their shots, this team will be tough to beat. However, as with any team...they do have off nights and they seem to be having them more frequently this year. One thing is for sure...Giles County will be in their home gym for Sub-state and Btowntigers can vouch for how hostile that place is.
  5. Good post. I would love to see another Giles County vs. Bolivar rematch...this time for all of the marbles. The rest of the state does not know what they missed the night Bolivar traveled to Pulaski for the Sub-state. I don't think I have seen a better played game at the high school level. Those two teams were about as even as you could have asked for. After last years spanking by SouthSide...you can believe that Giles will be ready for anything when Sub-state rolls around.
  6. Nobody said anything about being tired of hearing about West TN teams. You guys are talking like the tournament is a done deal. Need I remind you what happened to years ago when West TN was so stacked...Bolivar and Ridgeway (now AAA) both fell to a sorry little Middle TN team. Those were supposed to be the best you guys had in AA that year. Last year, Giles County failed to show up in the Sub-state and as a result they were sitting at home while Southside got waxed by Bolivar. Bolivar is still the top team in the state in AA until someone proves otherwise in the state championship game...I will admit that; however, the old saying goes..."Anyone can be beat on any given night"!!! From my understanding, this years Bolivar team likes to slow down the game and keep the socre in the 50's and 60's. How will they fair when they can't slow a team down and their big men are forced to run the length of the court every time the opposition touches the ball???

  8. That settles it. Bolivar beats Union City to win state. No need to play any more of the games. To hear you guys talk, this is a done deal. Fact of the matter is...the powerful Memphis teams beat up on each other all year long and they eliminate each other come Region tourney time. The truth is...one of those highly touted Memphis teams will be traveling to Giles County to play sub-state. Depending on which team shows up (2003 team won at the last second over Bolivar) or the (2004 team that didn't bother to show up against Jackson South side)...the bus ride back to Memphis could be a long one. Giles County will be back in the big show this year and they will challenge the best that the state has to offer.
  9. Coming off of a 40 point spanking of Page and a 60 pt. win over Fairview, does anyone in the District tournament want to face Tyler Smith and the rest of the Giles County Bobcats??? Page fans...we all want to hear the brilliant replies coming from Page High School...District 9AA champs....if Giles County wasn't in the District & Page didn't lose to Lewis County!!!!
  10. How long will we have to wait before we see another TN team in that list or another TN player mentioned in that article. Brentwood Ac. and Bolivar were sure making a run at the top 25 by the way the set their schedules. Unfortunately they have had a couple of slips that prevented them from being noticed.
  11. Oh my goodness...that is one for the ages. You guys beat Giles County in a sport that we don't even have. You are a complete moron!!! I don't recall Giles County ever having a volleyball team. PatriotFan05, I think your teacher is calling you back inside from recess, so why don't you quit hanging out on the monkey bars and go back inside for milk time and then nap time. This site is for mature high schoolers and grown-ups...I don't think you are either one. You have the mentality of a 5 yr. old.
  12. I couldn't have said it better Catfish. Just imagine what Coffey and Smith would be if Holt would have let Coffey play last year and the year before. He had one game last year where he scored 28 pts., but not even that was good enough for Coach Holt. Giles County will play the sub-state at home and avenge the mental breakdown that was their demise last year. They will be back in the BORO, but I don't know if they have the talent and coaching to get them to the championship game. I may be wrong, and I hope that I am.
  13. How did I know this thread was coming. Face it...Giles County's entire district is weak....that includes Page & their fans. Page can only hope that Lewis County doesn't thump them again in the district so they will get to face Giles County again. After last night, I don't honestly know why Page would wish to play Giles County again. Last nights 37 pt. margin of victory was nothing compared to what will happen when tourney time comes. GC fans as well as Page fans...just think how bad it would have been at Giles County had the Bobcats played the 3rd quarter with the same intensity as the did in the first half. They were already up by 30 at halftime...a 60 pt. margin of victory was not out of the picture.
  14. Can we get a post game word from one of those Page faithful that has headed for the hills after Giles County romped them last night. You guys simply got embarrassed. I was hoping Holt would leave Tyler and the rest of the starters in the whole game so they could hit 100 for the second time this year. You guys are pathetic and so is your team.
  15. I did, but after reading mediamogul's post... I now know. Lay off of the pipe it is messing with your head.
  16. I know one other thing... Gerry Bertier knows what he is talking about.
  17. When it is said and done tonight...all of the Page fans & players will be swept out the door with the rest of garbage the litters the floor in the aftermath of the massacre. Page fans can talk all of the smack they won't. Channing may play in Tyler's shadow, but whose shadow does Page play in...GILES COUNTY. You will finish 2nd behind us in the district...that is if Lewis County doesn't beat you again.
  18. Delk is not from Middle TN. The best players in Mid TN are 1)Smith & Wright...Smith averages more pts. per game than anyone in Mid TN; however, Wright plays on a team that has 3 losses and some very impressive wins. This is a toss-up. The two have battled head to head twice this year and both times they have dazzled the crowd. BA came out on top both times. The pts. per game best players are as follows: 1)Tyler Smith 26.8 ppg 2)Robert Derrick 22.3 ppg 3)Cory Pfleiger 22.0 ppg 4)Drake Reed 21.9 ppg 5)Travis Sikes 21.6
  19. Unless my eyes deceived me...I did not see Tyler Smith on that list. I believe he would follow in the #2 spot behind Wright.
  20. Dude...don't you think I would notice that Coach Holt is not Zach's dad...there is a little bit of color difference. I was referring to Darin.
  21. I guess the loss to Lewis County hurt their feelings a little bit. Guys, take it easy. This time Giles won't let you come back in the 2nd half. They will dig your grave in the first half and cover you up in the second. If you guys are lucky and Lewis County doesn't beat you again in the district tournament, you will get one more chance to clean Tyler and Channing's sneakers while they are dunking on you and every other person that has any affiliation with Page basketball.
  22. Finishing close games has always been a weak point of Giles County since I have been watching. They had two close calls in 2003 when they won the State Championship. Talent and luck alone won those two games for them. I won't put all of this on Coach Holt, but keeping your team under control when the game is on the line with 2 minutes left has to be the key role of the coach. These are high school kids and yes they all want to be the heroes; however, the coach has to convince his players that if they play together to get the best possible shots, then everything will work out. I don't think that happens at Giles County as was the case on Friday night. I don't know if Columbia is as good as a Bolivar, Raleigh Egypt or Liberty, but Brentwood I won't argue with. Giles County has a long road ahead of them if they want to bring the Gold Ball back to Pulaski and prove to everyone that they are among the elite teams in the state. The road is long, but not impossible.
  23. Excellent questions!!! I think coaching and lack of heart will be GC's downfall this year. From the game that I watched this year, Tyler is playing with more heart and he has since his freshman year as is Channing Coffey. The rest of the team is another story...they honestly act like they don't care. My question is...Why does Holt start his own son??? The kid is not very good. I think the play that summed up my opinion was when he had a wide open break away against Page and he dribbled the ball off of his foot, trying to setup for the dunk...LOL. Giles County will coast through the district and will not be tested until they meet Waverly. As I stated in another thread...if Waverly can pull out a win in the region finals and Giles County has to travel to Bolivar (more than likely)...then their season is over. There only hope is to maintain home court advantage during the sub-state; however, it didn't do them much good last year.
  24. It may not matter now, but remember last year in the sub-state. Tyler was contained and no one else on the team could help out. This years team is no different. They are a two man show that very seldom gets someone else to step up. This works against the weak district teams, but this years region is not going to be a cake walk...Waverly could deal an upset and send Giles County packing to Bolivar or some other Memphis school...which would not be good.
