  1. I was on the Hargrave website the other day. It appears as though Tyler is putting up some decent numbers. I also noticed on their schedule where they play UNC...is that correct.
  2. For you guys who seriously want to know how Tyler is doing, check out this link http://www.hargrave.edu/athletics/sport_in...?category_id=19
  3. Go back and look at my post again before you post such nonsense. I stated that TN did not learn anything from the Buzz Peterson experience. Buzz too was an awesome coach at a lower level, but he was a complete flop at UTK. My question is...Why did UAB's coach withdraw his name? You know the money was more than he was making now and it was the chance of a lifetime to coach at an athletic minded school. UTK will be at the low end of the SEC for years to come. Look at the recruiting class that KY, MS State, & Georgia has coming in next year...TN has Tyler Smith & the big kid from Hickman County. TN better have a coach that can take an average bunch of guys and make them play team ball. It looked as though Pearl was able to do that in the NCAA tourney. Only time will tell if he can make it happen...if not, then there will be another coach in UTK.
  4. Another great move for the future of UTK basketball...NOT!!! What a joke. The guy takes his team to the Sweet 16 one day and TN is hiring him to bring their basketball program back from the grave. Pearl will not be any better than Peterson. TN should have learned that because a coach can lead a Mid-Major D1 school to the NCAA tourney doesn't mean that they can take a High Major school to the same tourney...look at the competition. If I was Tyler Smith I would be working on the paperwork to go somewhere else. TN will be at the bottome of the SEC next year and in the years to come.
  5. Yup...Willie Willie Willie is the real Mr. Basketball........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................NEXT YEAR!!! Bolivar will be a dynasty in TN HS basketball when they win their 3rd straight Gold Ball which will be...........................................................................................................................................................................NEXT YEAR. Lets not put the cart before the horse. You guys still have to beat Raleigh Egypt to bring the 2nd Gold Ball home and I don't think that RE is going to roll over and let you guys take that from them without one heck of a fight.
  6. Ok, but if Smith does file for a release from the NLI...Why would TN want to deny him the release. I hope they don't honestly believe that if a player requests a release and is denied...that the player would give 100% effort to make that program successful. I think Smith should stay. I don't know what grouds he based his decision to attend UTK on, but there had to be something other than the coach that influenced him!!!
  7. If Tyler gets the AD of UTK to grant him a Full Release from the NLI then he does not have to sit out a year. He would immediately be eligible at the next NLI institution of his choice. If you don't believe it HTV, read the Release Form. There is a big bold statement in there that says that if the Athletic Director grants a Full Release then the players is not subject to the Basic Penalty, which is 1 year of eligibility.
  8. Correct. Back to my question...Why would Tyler even sign with TN if he thought there was a chance of Buzz not being there when he attended? If indeed Buzz was the main reason he was making that decision. I honestly think the kid wants to stay close to home as he has suggested in many articles and play for whoever coaches the Volunteers. TN has had some competitive basketball programs in the past not only in the SEC, but in the NCAA tourney. That being said...4 years ago they had been to the big dance for the previous 4 years in a row. Someone was doing something right...whether it be with the coaches, players, or recruiting. Buzz was not a bad coach, but his philosophy and style of play did not fit in at UTK.
  9. If indeed, Tyler did sign his NLI....he is bound to that contract as stated in the following link... http://www.national-letter.org/guidelines/nli_text.php. According to a couple of articles that I have read...Smith did ink with UTK. Therefore we will see him playing next year in Orange & White or he won't be playing at all. My question is...Why sign with a struggling program, knowing that if the team doesn't make the NCAA tournament, the coach is gone. Anyone that thought Buzz would be around after this year if he didn't make the NCAA tournament is just simply lying to themselves. This program went from 4 straight NCAA tourney appearances under Jerry Green to 0 tourney appearances in the last 4 years under Peterson. For an athletic director, that decision is easy. The coach something or someone has to go...Buzz was the way out this time.
  10. You can bet that next year, there will be a senior who doesn't win the Mr. Basketball award in AA but will be very very deserving of it. How can you go wrong with Thad or Willie. Both are incredible athletes with bright futures ahead of them, but only one can win the award. Is is possible that once all of the votes are cast there could be a tie??? I am just asking that question...I have no clue.
  11. Gomab, as I said earlier I am done bashing Coach Holt, but there is one more thing that should be said. The year that the State Championship was won, it was done so with luck (Bolivar & Ridgeway) and alot of talent. As for Jackson Northside...you could take out 3 of their starters and still be left with two of the best players in TN on the court. That is not a fair comparison. Giles County has accomplished some amazing things the last three years that haven't been done since the 91,92, & 93 teams. These guys laid it all on the line and have proved that they can play with the best teams anywhere. MAS summed it up pretty well. After that post, there is really nothing else to say.
  12. Catfish, I will say that I agree with you. However, I am done bashing Coach Holt. In the heat of the moment he probably thought Tyler would keep his composure and lead the team to victory. I can't say that I would have been able to make a better decision, but darn...it seems so clear as I was listening to the game. Holt has always been able to select the right talent to get his team as far as their talent will take them. Many will say that if Coach Hannah was still sitting on that bench with Holt to offer some insight and suggestions...things may have turned out differently. Once again...Tyler, Channing & Zach have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Look at what they have accomplished together as a TEAM.
  13. No joke. Tyler picked up 3 or 4 fouls in the 4th quarter with a 7 pt. lead. Granted the kid is one heck of a player and understands the game very well...he is still 17 and emotions will get the best of him. Holt didn't have enough sense to sit him down and talk to him for 1 minute then put him back in the game to end it. These young men can always know that they played to the best of their ability and the whole county was supporting them. Holt should look back at this and say...Boy...what the heck was I thinking.
  14. Humboldt wins by 4. Well played game on both sides. Lack of scoring from other players not named Coffey or Smith proved to be crucial tonight. However, this Bobcats team has nothing to be ashamed of...they played their hearts off and should hold their heads high. Catfish...go ahead and bring your dumb remarks...we are all waiting to see what stupidity you pull out of your bag next.
