  1. This was enough to make me become a plus member. I've been hearing all week at work that coach swenson was leaving. Your not only getting a great coach but also a great family. I'm not understanding whats going on. Thats two coaches on our staff gone and i've heard rumor there may be more jump ship.
  2. No, my son graduated in 98. I'm just a tired old alumni who loves mustang football.
  3. I'm anticipating some changes coming in the football program from the top down.
  4. The fact is Huntingdon will have fewer athletes overall almost every year than Milan. What Huntingdon is doing better than milan right now is actually GETTING to the finals. They have a core of relatively young coaches that have made a huge impact on the way things have changed in Mustang country. All of the sudden its Huntingdon thats winning the tight games and getting all the breaks. These guys have instilled the idea Huntingdon has a tradition of winning football and its their birthright to play in and win big games. Its a great time to be a Mustang. thumb
  5. Gerry, Gerry, Gerry, how could you compare the Mustangs to the Yankees. Huntingdon is what high school football is about. A town that totally revolves around the high school. Heck, our Jr. high games have a bigger crowd than most high schools and thats win or lose. We're a school with one of the smallest enrollments in 2A. Our town doesn't have a single red light, not one. We just got a super walmart and you'd think it was the jackson mall. We are, as one of our coaches put it, "small market." We're the Minn. Twins man. We have some athletes, sure, but in general our kids just outwork most. Huntingdon represents public schools in general and the success you can have with community support, great coaching and hard working players.
  6. If this game turns into a physical slug match, Alcoa stands no chance. And for some reason Huntingdon has a way of turning every single game they play into a physical slug match.
  7. Quit trying to talk like your from Compton or some sugar. Your from Alcoa Tn. Lay off the MTV and learn to communicate. Your boys haven't played a team yet thats gonna hit your tail as hard Huntingdon. PLUS...... we can match your speed. You better set your feet boy, because the pain is coming and all that mumbo jumbo you folks talk is worthless now.
  8. The thing that I find very entertaining about this thread is these two young fellas trying to come up with a defense to stop Huntingdon. Kevin Ward, Jeff Morris, etc. etc. must be morons. They should have asked you college kids. Huntingdon throws when they want to, you don't dictate that to them. Last friday night I sit in the stands and watched a drive that started from around the Mustang 20 with roughly 7 min and some change left on the clock. We all knew that if they didn't score on this drive, it was over. At some time during that drive I remember thinking," they'll have to throw the ball", it was third and 5. Still they ran. It was a sea of purple. In my mind all I could think was " Swenson, you're gonna have to let one fly down here or we're gonna run out of time" Huntingdon calls time out somewhere inside the milan 20 with just over a minute left. I think it was 3rd and five. I figured some kind of flood pass to at least take a shot at the end zone. Offtackle, touchdown. Since the Martin game in 97 I don't think i've witnessed a more methodical drive in high school football. And the best part, beating milan on Johnny heck field by 5 points. thumb
  9. If I remember correctly Huntingdon also fumbled away 3 more scoring oppurtunities inside the cheatam 30.
  10. You've lost your mind if you think Milan was a better team than huntingdon. I've yet to find one neutral individual who thought Milan was even as good. You guys have been outplayed, outcoached, and now there is a new dominant force in west tn and it hurts. I love the way milan plays football, and the way the community rallies around the school but for now there is a new sheriff in town.
  11. Huntingdon will win this game. Alcoa has a great team but...... i'll guarantee you they haven't seen the kind of physical beating they'll get friday. You can argue back and forth all you want but i'd put milan or huntingdon against alcoa this year and both would physically dominate them.
  12. whew, thank you for posting. Now huntingdon is guaranteed a win because since the playoffs started you've yet to be right. thankyou
  13. I really don't won't to say much, for I am from Huntingdon. We are still playing for the year in 2A. I hope you (mckenzie) get bombed in 1A but I hope your players are safe. Good luck War Eagles and if Huntingdon ever gets put out in the first round, I'll be there to watch you guys beat Mckenzie next year. thumb
  14. I'll agree with you on your assesment. Earlier in the year the Mustang offense seemed more explosive but with that wide open type offense,(they were slinging it around alot more then) also came the turnovers. What I think has happened is that in order to limit turnovers Huntingdon is playing alot more smashmouth, low risk football and very stingy defense. Both are the combinations that win championships. From looking at the statistics these two teams are very much alike. They're gonna beat you with the ground game and sneak a pass in every so often. Both play good defense. Turnovers will decide this game.
  15. They've played for two, won one. Milan has played for two under Morris and won two. Huntingdon very rarely can match milan talent wise on the field but still, they compete every year with them. Smaller enrollment (we only get them from inside our city), less athletes, yet still we come, and we come for you.
  16. blah, blah, blah. How old are u, 10. To be naive enough to believe Memphis Carver was a great team and that Milan pulled off some miracle. I bet you just got back from watching Friday Night Lights and you think that show is about you didn't you? Carver plays zero def. and I haven't seen them personally but memphis teams are all the same. Small up front, no blocking skills, fast at the skill positions, meh you know the rest. Your daddy says Huntingdon wins, trust your daddy.
  17. Carver stunk. Alot of athletes poorly coached. Typical Memphis team. Coaching adv. Huntingdon, special teams Milan. Huntingdon wins this one easy.
  18. Are you talking about the Carver defense that was shredded by Dresden? Your probably right. Your def. is awesome. Man, you guys never learn.
  19. Yes you do remember correctly, and I'll stick by that prediction.
  20. No, Huntingdon's coaches are the best in west tn after defeating an athletically superior Milan team last year and doing it at a school with far less numbers, i'd say its time to nix our "TRADITION" of feeling inferior. Don't be the typical Huntingdon fan that assumes milan has the best everything. Both these teams will have the same gameplan. Ram the ball down your throat until the other team breaks, thats west tn. football. I can't wait. I'm picking Huntingdon by 3 td's.
  21. If most o our fans got on here and proclaimed the greatness of our coaches they wouldn't have anyone to blame for losses. In my humble opinion this is the best staff Huntingdon High School has seen or will ever see assembled together .We've added one piece at a time. Sure, we've had good coaches before, but we never had one who got us past the first round of the playoffs until Mansfield and that includes the great Paul Ward. This group has taken a school with one of the smallest enrollments in 2A to two state championship games, numerous regional titles, played in the semifinals a bunch and now after losing possibly the greatest assembly of athletes we've ever seen here last year, we're back in the quarterfinals. We take it for granted that it will go on forever but I for one dread the day this staff breaks up. When it does thats when we'll all be talking about how good they were.
  22. It is truly a sad day, when we as supporters have to remind our fellow mustang fans to stand up and cheer. And may I add that when we cheer, let us cheer words of encouragement, positive words, not the crying and moaning I so often hear from my fellow mustangers. If we supporters are going to get on here and claim that because of "tradition" (I use that word loosely) we expect to win then lets act like it. From players all the way down to fans. The only tradition i've witnessed lately is the tradition of sitting on our hands and being afraid something bad is going to happen. And believe me, we are known far and wide for this "Tradition". So bring some noise makers, air horns, yell when something good happens and heck, just sometimes yell period! Get your lazy tails off the bleachers and support these young men. Because you know what, it can end as quickly as it started and we'll have to get out that other shaped ball. GO MUSTANGS
  23. It would seem that with the rain, the team who can play smashmouth the best will win. Hmmmmmm, who would that be, let me think, hmmmmmm?
