  1. AAA

    Germantown

    South

    Brentwood

    siegel

    A/AA

    East Ridge

    Anderson County

    Goodpasture

    Notre Dame/Johnson County

    Division II

    Harpeth Hall

Just curious as to why Siegel 4th. They beat South badly took G-town 5 games and beat Brentwood...with their best player. I am not saying you are wrong..just wondering why.

  2. What I meant was I believe they are probably actually "better" than 4th. To be honest I believe the are still at least top 2, but just did not earn it on the court at state. Therefore 4th is where I would rank them even though their overall record tells me they are better than that. That's exactly the same way I feel about Notre Dame by looking at the way they performed over the "entire" season. Still though, neither team got it done at state.

Understand what you are saying and I would mostly agree. For the first time in years the top 4 teams in the state are really close to one another.

Did I hear that there was a vote recently in KY about seperating private vs public schools?

  3. Your AAA actually would be my exact top 5 even though I really dont believe Brentwood truly is the 4th best team. Nevertheless they had an injury that weakened their team and lost at tournament time.

I would completely agree with you on AC being #2 had they actually faced Knox Cath and not Goodpasture and defeated them in that match to at least go 1-5 against them. They didn't though, so all I can go on is 0-5 head to head. That's tough to overlook.

Brentwood is no doubt the 4th best team. Franklin couldn't beat them no matter who is hurt. Franklin cannot mentally get over the brentwood mystic.

  4. I would love to see the same number of teams, but have it all at one venue. That way we can see all classes without having to try and fight through the Mboro traffic. Surely there is a facility and sport courts available to do this. Alabama does this and it is a huge success. College coaches also like it better.

I have to totally disagree with PM. We have too many in my opinion anyway.

Eight is pushing it. I really like the format of it however if you are going to use 8 teams.

They have to have a saturday final...an absolute joke that they don't. Have the smifinals Sat morning and the finals Sat evening.

You need to have the best officials also. THere were some good ones, however there were some really bad ones.

As I have said before, need to have a mental attitude award winner and recognize great efforts from officals or AD's etc in the name of volleyball. We are really close here and every year the talent is getting better.

  5. I will say this about Loretto. They played a bunch of matches in Alabama where Volleyball is pretty good. I'm sure this prepared them well and far more than their district matches did.

    My AAA Top 5:

    Germantown--won it

Siegel--beat south easily and beat Bwood late in the season

    South--beat the wood and Franklin

Brentwood--beat Franklin--but also beat G-town in pool play

    Franklin--outside looking in

AA--I will give it an effort.

    ------

    east ridge

AC--experience means alot in volleyball--win when it counts

    Knox--

    Loretto

    ND

  6. To All the People of Sullivan South:

You all are pretty darn lucky that Dana Goodson tore her ACL playing flag football. I guarantee you if Coach Campbell had prior knowledge of Dana playing in the flag football tournament, she would not have approved.

So you bunch of rednecks, I saw all of you at the state tournament flaunting the confederate flag on the back of your shirts. Do you need me to tell you that you're playing volleyball and not at a NASCAR race? Good grief. It's good to know that the state runners-up in volleyball support slavery and racism.

This is a sad, sad post.

Let's not forget that this is obviously a 15 year old girl who posted this.

What a shame. Every team faces injuries at times and it is not an excuse.

You heard no excuse from Farragut, Siegel or Collierville and they all had hugh injuries.

And do not allow one perono label all of the B'wood fans. They have some great people involved with that program, just like South.

  7. I just wanted to thank the girls for a great year. Lauren Crawford(OH/DS) 3 year starter and Laura Grese (DS) 3 year starter. It has been fun to watch you girls grow as players. Good luck in your next four years of Volleyball. I am also looking forward to see the 6 juniors play next year.

I also would say that it was a great State Tourny. I really enjoyed watching a great teams and players. I would say the one who stood out in my mind was the outside hitter from Siegle, sorry I do not know her name. I think she was one the best all around players I have seen in a few years.

I am really happy for you South. You were very impressive at the tournament.

THe fun thing about the tournament was that there was very little seperation between the top 4 teams. I was very impressed with #10..as well as your setter/hitter and middle. Other then the pool play game against Siegel she was money. You will make another run next year.

The player you are referring to is Amanda Horenkamp. She is a special player. She played so well all year. She may not have been the most athletic hitter in the state but I have not seen anyone more crafty. She can hit every angle and has the best back row attach in the state in my humble opinion. She will be attending Lincoln Memorial University.

She made the all tournament team as well.

  8. If they are as good as GPS, then why didn't they beat GPS? GPS beat KC twice in the AC tournament this year.

Sometimes people get caught up in...this team beat that team...thus they must be better then that team and so on.

Fact of the matter is, it is all about match ups. Last year Siegel beat a good Franklin team and then lost to Sullivan South. THen Franklin beat south in three. Siegel matched up well against FHS because they were not offesively aggressive, and Siegel's defense last year played well to that.

You see it all the time. Some team match up better with a middle attach vs an outside attach. It sounds like that GPS just matched up better with them.

Siegel beat South in three games and then South beat Brentwood. Does that mean Siegel is better the B-wood...not neccesarily.

    It is a crazy game.

  9. That's a big leap to say that it's their last state title if the coach is retiring. Seems like Harpeth Hall won this year with a first year coach at their school. And yes, I know she coached at Wake Forest but let's see who Germantown recruits for a new coach.

From what I have heard from many fans, parents and coach's, G-Town's talent pool just isn't there. The new high schools are getting those kids. Germantowns zoning has changed so much.

It is too bad to hear because they are the most tradition rich school in the state. And that includes B-wood.

It is unimaginable how she has done it year after year.

  10. 1. Siegel's first final 4

    2. Coach Neely & The Ridge winning it all

    3. South Beating Brentwood

    4. seeing Taylor & HH take home the championship

    5. Siegel dominating in Pool play--The siegel 6 having a great tournament, not losing a game in pool play.

    5. Lauren Thompson's jump serve in game 4...snatching all momentum.

    6. Tracy Berry back at the big dance with a new team

    7. watching Cutter to Horenkamp one last time.

    8. The three Siegel Soph's playing incredible--Smith, Faulkner, Reese

    9. watching G-town winning what will prob be their last championship

    10. The irony of #7 going to G-town and not Brentwood....save those shirts for next year.

Obviously a lot of memories revolving around Siegel. It was very fun to watch these girls play great Volleyball. They have built a legacy at Siegel. 5 returning starters will return! ...but how do you replace these 6 seniors?....you can't.

    Thanks for the memories ladies.

  11. Harpeth Hall beat Germantown, Seigal and East Ridge this season!

HH beat Siegel in the preseason. Siegel beat you two or three times during the season.

I am so glad you all won the championship. Your team improved so much. All the girls stepped up and played great. Congrats on a great season.

  12. There is alot of talk on here that East Ridge is the team to beat this year. Read this post Wednesday afternoon, and see that the early talk of this tournament didn't mention A/AA's best team, Knox Catholic.

ER and KC play the first round of pool play, and I think KC will win in 3! I don't think the games will even be close. KC has flown under the radar all year, but have beaten everybody. They whipped State Power Anderson County in 3, and won their sub-state in 3. They have played great all year, but no one seems to know. Everybody needs to watch this game on Tuesday and you will see what I'm talking about.

Catholic has the best setter in the Knoxville area. She is quick to the ball and dumps alot. She has great ball sense. I would give her a strong edge over the ER setters.

At middle is 6'2" Lane, a dominant middle. Although only a soph she hits like a hammer. Being young she hits the same shot alot, but her strength lets her overpower teams. She will be the best of the MBs, but ER has a great MB that is also strong. This one is close, but the edge goes to ER, barely.

Brock is a great player for ER. She hits a harder ball then any of the KC hitters, but KC's big hitter Wolf hits smarter. She mixes up her shots and scores a lot. Those two are even. The difference is the other hitter, Forbes. Although she primarily hits cross court, she hits the back-quick and knows where to tip. She is better than ER's other hitter.

Defense - SR the edge goes to ER. Other than Wolf and the libero, KC has some holes. Team Defense goes to KC. They cover the tip and are great diggers. Hard to score against this team.

Blocking goes to ER. Other than Lane KC does not have a great blocker, just some pretty good ones.

Serving - If there is a weakness this is it. KC will miss some pressure serves, but so will ER. Edge goes to ER.

Coaching. I know Coach Neely has been around a long time, but so has Mike Jones. He is a former college coach and plays a fast offense. Strong edge to KC.

Catholic got a sweet draw by being in the weaker pool. Loretto and USJ can't match up. ER will give them a game, but I think Catholic wins in 3, and steamrolls through pool play.

In the other pool Notre Dame is strong, and so is Goodpasture. Both have really good teams, and are well coached.

I think Notre Dame wins in a close one over Goddpasture. Here is how it will work out.

    Catholic Notre Dame

    ER Goodpasture

    Loretto Anderson County

    USJ Crockett

    Catholic beats Crockett

ER beats AC, in a close one

    Goodpasture destroys Loretto

    Notre Dame blows away USJ.

Catholic beats Goodpasture in a close 4 game match

Notre Dame beats ER in 4 maybe 5

Catholic beats old foe Notre Dame in 4.

All of you posters who push ER read this now and comment Wednesday afternoon.

Oh yeah, wear a lot of green this week!

WHo has KC lost to this year? I saw ER play the best teams in the state at the best tournements in the state. i don't remember seeing you at Brentwood, Blackman, Chatt...maybe you were there just not in the same gym. So what tournaments did they attend? I do remember watching ER play, Germantown, Siegel, Collierville...basically ever decent AAA team in Middle and West Tn. And they looked great.

It would be really big for a Knox team to win a game at the State. Hope you have a good run. I get the feeling that SNRaiderfan has never been to a state tournament...but I could be wrong.

  13. Brentwood's JV would be a strong contender in the A/AA state tournament this year, and wouldn't do too bad in AAA either.

Siegel JV and Brentwood JV had a couple of great games earlier this year.

Siegel thought they beat them in a 2/3 match as they were the first to 15 in the third game. But during that tournament they were playing to 25 and not 15. Brentwood came back and beat them the third game.

Later that day in the championship of the tounament they beat siegel in 2.

it was really fun to watch those games.

  14. Speaking of another season, will any of the Cookeville girls be playing club ball?

Congrats to Red Bank on a great win. I would have loved to watch that game. It was no doubt the best sectional match up. Good to see Coach Thurman back at the state.

Also Corgrats to Cookeville for a great run at the state. It was so much fun to watch Siegel and Cookeville battle all year. Coach Brooks came in and got that program going in the right direction.

Cookeville is fairly young and both of those middles are returning.

I really hope they play club ball. I forsee some great Cookeville Siegel battles next year also. Both teams bring back a lot of talent.

  15. Independence is the team to shoot for next year. They have talent, depth, coaching, chemistry, and extremely good defense.

Yeah, Brentwood will be pretty vulnerable next year. Especially losing all of our seniors. I sure hope we can get out of the district.

I like your sense of humor fam...your not tricking me!

Although IHS will be a very good team.

  16. Franklin wins 25-9, 20-25, 25-9, 25-18. The wolverines gave it a run, but #14 and the powerslide was too much. LaVergne ends its season at 41-13.

What a grat season for LaVergne! District and Region Champs.

A very young team as well. Congrats to you all.

  17. Siegel/Bradley County is not on the list but will be played at Siegel at 5:00.

was a good match two weeks age.

    6:00 game time for SIegel.

I wish LaVergne the best and am pulling for them but I think that Franklin will beat'em in three.

  18. Lavergne over Franklin....bold prediction there

also I think Cookeville could be there in place of Red Bank

If Cookeville can play like they have against Siegel the last two weeks, then this will be a great match. They must find some offense however, there defense is great. Red Bank is on a roll.

This will be a great match.

  19. ANOTHER GREAT MATCH BETWEEN COOKEVILLE AND SIEGEL.

NOT SURE OF THE SCORES BUT SIEGEL LOST THE FIRST GAME AND WON THE NEXT THREE.

    SCORES WERE SOMETHING LIKE:

    17-25 25-20 25-20 25-17

CHS PLAYS TERRIFIC DEFENSE. THEY JUST COULDN'T KEEP WITH SIEGEL'S OFFENSE.

    ALL REGION PLAYERS FROM SIEGEL

    STEPH CUTTER MVP

    AMANDA HORENKAMP--SHE WAS UNSTOPPABLE

    SARA LUCAS

    SHELBY SMITH

I HEARD ALSO THAT THERE WAS A MISCALCULATION ON THE ALL REGION BALLOT AND #11 FROM COOKEVILLE MADE ALL REGION..VERY DESERVING. SHE WAS NOT PART OF THE CEREMONY WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE BUT SHE IS ALL REGION NONE THE LESS.

BOTH MIDDLES FROM COOKEVILLE-- FRESHMAN AND JUNIOR.

TULLAHOMA'S MIDDLE AND ONE GIRL FROM COLOMBIA...SOMEONE PLEASE UPDATE NAMES.
