  1. This year again, four teams will not get to play at MTSU--specifically, the quarterfinal losers in Division II. Last year, it was AAA that suffered that fate. I think a large part of the problem is the huge number of pool-play matches that do nothing but establish seeding.

I see what you mean CU, last year Siegel didn't get to play at MTSU. We played at Blackman and at Siegel. The finals should be on Saturday, that would be the solution.

I am still ok with that because Siegel did not make the final four. Which in my opinion is the right amount of teams that should make the state. I do like how TSSAA has pool play and then seeds for the tournament. It ensures that the best teams play the weaker teams.

  2. OK, I have heard all this great talk about the Siegel Nation and how they are the most loyal fan's in high school sports. Well I have been to a couple Siegel Volleyball games this year and there are never more then 5 or 6 students at the games!

So, my challenge is for the Siegel Nation to show up!!....Come to one game this year in support of your 45-10 Siegel Volleyball team.

Even if we can only get 20 of the "siegel nation" to show up that would be great.

So HARRIS HOOLIGANS if you can read this...then you better be there. There is also a Region game that night for the soccer team...so come to volleyball and then walk over to the soccer game!!

Tuesday is the region at HOME!!

Siegel plays Tullahoma and if they win that then they will play the winner of the Cookeville VS Columbia game. The Cookeville games this year of been incredible to watch. The championship game is at approx 7:00 and the stars will be playing in it hopefully.

WE NEED THE NATION TO SHOW UP AND SUPPORT THE STARS.

  3. I totally agree! It used to be that way - that is what I'm saying. What would make a good ceremony in your opinion?

A Couple of things that could add to the event are recognizing great coach's, ref's, offcials. Have a "Coach Neely" award for an outstanding coach. Recognize the AD, principal. Announce All State teams...not just all tournament.

A mental attitude award for a scrappy kid.

If you make the final 4...you deserve something..a certificate, a key chain..something.

I am ok with the first round of the tournament being at a local school. Once the final 4 are decided then moving to MTSU.

The finals should be played later in the day. Allow people the choice of attending.

Just a few of my ideas.

Promote it, invite middle schools, high schools.

  4. You are absolutely right, it is a serious shame, but I can't think of a way to rectify this situation except to take more teams to the tournament, maybe like you suggest, take 4 to regional out of each district. East Tn. has many good teams that won't get to the show because of that same thing, especially in A/AA.

Couple things first and biggest thing is that the Champinship started at 1:00 ( or earlier) on a Friday! Students were not able to support their school (if they wanted to). Some parents even had a hard time making the games.

Second that they couldn't even run a real court for the championship. They stuck the court at one end (taped lines). At least make the final game on the main floor.

Plus the total lack of any kind of decent ceremony. I am a bit jaded by how it is ran. It doesn't even feel like "an event". Do you know what I mean? If you have never gotten a chance to see how other states do it, it is hard to relate.

  5. okay so in volleyball only the top 2 teams advance. but in basketball the top 4. how can one sport get 4 and another get 2. if i am not mistaking they are the only sport that get the top 4. my daughter plays on centennials team and i will say tehy have the hardest district in tennessee. but only the top 2 get out every year when there are 4 tearms that trully would make it to state.

here is my take on this:

Yes you have the hardest district in the state...it isn't even close.

There are still AAA schools in TN that do not have Volleyball...thus less teams.

Volleyball is not a revenue sport. TSSAA does not make any money if 2 or 4 teams play in the regional. However they do make money on gate with 4 basketball teams playing.

TSSAA doesn't care about Volleyball in my opinion. If you were at the State Tournament last year it was obvious...it was embarrasing.

I hate it for teams like Cent, Indepen, Riverdale etc...who would all win 90% of the districts in this state but can't get out of the district.

But I don't agree that you can lose 4 times in the basketball state tournament and still be State Champs...that is a joke.

Until more people get on the Volleyball bandwagon it won't change. if there wasn't outrage last year about the tournament...then I am afraid that there never will be. But I am just a random fan of the game.... with no authority unfortunatly

  6. very nice...congrats

What a great district final. That is the way a final should be. For two years in a row Siegel has won the championship in 5 games against a very good opponent.

Siegel started great playing flawless at times in games 1 and 2. I cannot recall the scores at this point. Games 3 and 4 cookeville played great and turned the tables winning both. Game 5 Siegel had control of and it wasn't in much doubt. Siegel's experience appeared to pay off in game 5. Game 5 was 15-9 I think.

Congrats to Cookeville on a great tournament. The region will be very exciting.

    Region match ups:

    Tuesday at Siegel

    Siegel V Tullahoma

Cookeville V Columbia. 3/4 of last years region teams are back.

The winner will host the #2 team out of Chatt. Loser travels to Chatt.

    All district for Siegel:

    Stephanie Cutter--Setter--MVP of district 7 AAA--2005

Amanda Horenkamp--OH (was last years MVP)

    Sara Lucas--Opp

    Kelly Davidson--Liebro/DS

  7. It is obvious that Siegel volleyball would like CP to return before the end of the season. While the depth that Coach Slaughter has, has been of great help, CP, the great monster slider, is missed. She is walking now like she did brfore the sprain but athletic injuries require more than that. Keep up the rehab and if it happens to be later on, your encouragement on the bench certainly helps.

Carrie will return to the Dr. Monday from what I hear. She has been out for 6 weeks! Either way it will be a lot to ask for her to pull her " A Game " out. I cannot wait to see her out there again --weather it be this year or next.

Thank goodness for our Three Sophmores(Reece, Faulkner and Smith) and Casie Luna--where would the Stars be without them??

Not to mention our 6 seniors (it has been reported that we have 9).

Carrie's smile is a delight on the bench, but even better on the court!

  8. While I don't have the score, The Stars beat a very good White County team tonite and Cookeville and Riverdale are in a knock/down match that must v=be very exciting. Cookeville won the first game and the second game is tied. Congrats to Coach Slaughter, a fine group of seniors, and the rest of the team for making it to tomorrows finals at 6:00. That game is extremely important for seeding at the next level. I am sure Clifford will fill in the blanks I have left out.

Yes, the Stars are in the Regional for the second straight year beating WCHS in three. The scores were similar to this: 25-16 25-15 25-14...something like that anyway.

Cookeville beat the heck out of Riverdale. THe first game was the only close one at 26-24. CHS took control of games 2 and 3. Cookeville looked great from what I hear.

Congrats to the Cavs for getting out of the district for the first time in a while...they deserve praise. RHS had a nice run at it but just couldn't finish.

Tomorrow night will be a great match I am sure.

  9. Does anyone have the other results from the 7 AAA first round last night?

Riverdale won in three against lebanon--scores indicated it was a close game.

    Cookeville beat blackman in three

White County beat warren county in 3-1

    Match ups tonight.

    Siegel VS White County

    Riverdale VS Cookeville.

Both should be good matches. Riverdale Cookeville will be so good. RHS beat them in a very close 4 game match. CHS won the first one.

  10. @ Warren County High School

    ------------------------

    #1 Siegel - #8 Oakland--Tuesday 4:00

    #4 White County - #5 Warren County-- 5:15

    #6 Lebanon - #3 Riverdale--6:30

    Semi Finals are @ 4:00 & 5:30 on Wed

Finals are @ 6:00 on thursday

The winner of the 7 AAA district hosts the region 4--consists of Columbia, Tullahoma..etc

Winner of Region 4 hosts Section 2--second place team out of Chatt.

Second out of Region 4 travels to winner of Chatt region.

potential teams out of chatt...Ooltewah, Bradley Central, Red Bank, Cleveland who else? is soddy daisey AAA? Hixson?

  11. 1. Cleveland took Ooltewah to 5.

    2. Baylor beat East Ridge in 4. Baylor was disgustingly unfocused in game 3 which they lost. Baylor's blk was too much, too big.

    http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_73813.asp

    3. Boyd beats Hixson in 2 http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_73812.asp

    4. Soddy beats Boyd

Bradley Central and Siegel play today at Siegel. Should be a fun game.

These 2 are potential match-ups in the Sub State.

  12. Bump, still looking for accurate seedings and overall records -- thanks.

    1-Siegel 14-0

    2-Cookeville 11-3

    3-Riverdale 11-3 (lost tie break)

    4-White County 9-5

    5- warren county 5-9

    6-Blackman 5-9

    7-lebanon 5-9

    8-Oakland 0-14

I am positive about 1-4 and the 8th seed. 5,6 and 7 may shuffle a bit.

  13. I saw in another thread that Siegel took it 3-1.

    I think the scores were-- 25-12, 25-16, 17-25, 25-11

    1-Siegel

    2-Cookeville

    3-Riverdale

    4-White County

    5-Warren County

    6-Blackman

    7-Lebabon

    8-Oakland

5,6 & 7 may be shuffled a bit, but I think this is the seeding for the tournament.

  14. CONGRATS COACH NEELY!!!!

You are tha woman!!! I played against you in jr high and high school,(you coached) and now I coach against you, and you still look the same, and will always be "the Pat Summit of volleyball" in my book! You are such a classy lady, and are great with your girls. Thank you for always being patient with me, and helping me along the years. Again, congrats, and I hope there are many more to come!

I think that the TSSAA should have an award that recognizes the accomplishments of coach's in our state--so many other sports do this type of award. And it should be named after coach Neely. When I say accomplishments it shouldn't just be winning cause she is more then just a winner.

It is time that the TSSAA make the state tournament an event and not just a tournament. I feel they should also recognize the efforts of an official maybe the "offical of the year". There should be a mental attitude award...and so on.

Anyway, Coach Neely is the standard for all coach's...not just volleyball and it is great to hear all the kind words on this site.

i hope so badly that ER wins the state championship.

  15. Yeah you can not go by the top ten rankings they are more popularity and who gets the press more than anything. I will say GPS is one of if not the best in the state. Farragut right now is the hot team in East Tennessee. After last night they are now 38-7 with all losses coming to the hands of private schools (2 to GPS, 2 to Webb, 2 to Baylor, and one to Notre Dame). They have yet to be beaten by a public school. They have beaten Anderson County, D-B, Cookeville, and I believe Sullivan South or Ooltewah can't remember which one. They have not lost a district match in 3 years now as they are 42-0 in the district during that period. All this and they are in a rebuilding year. There is only one senior on this squad. They rest of the girls are juniors and sophmores. They should be poised to make a big run at the state this year. But being the father of 3 daughters you know how girls can be. Sometimes they don't show up...lol.....good luck to everyone in the post season and keep you eyes open for the Lady Ads.

Really hope Farragut gets there! I alway's love seeing your coach, he is a great guy.

  16. Still means Siegel games with Blackman and Cookeville is very important for the Seniors and for respect for the tournament.

No doubt Hargis. These are the 2 biggest games of the year.

Tournament seeding is at stake and Riverdale is the hottest team in the district right now.

There was a lot of people wondering when RHS was going to get it going. They are a good team.

  17. Attack? Find me one post where I have attacked any team. I would actually be much happier if AC had defeated somebody significant and was a true top 10 TN team. That would validate our victory over them as something extremely special. The facts are on their record though that they have yet to defeat a quality opponent and yet your voters simply ignore that while deserving teams get no votes. I have no personal grudge with AC. I actually really like their team and their parents and I'm very certain I've never slammed them.

I will say this about AC. They are simply THE best team I have EVER seen that does not have club players on it. The difference between them and KY nonclub player teams is dramatic. AC is sooooo much better it's rediculus. They obviously have a top notch coaching staff that can get these girls playing as well as they do without playing in the off season. Still though, that's why they struggle and are inconsistant. Their passing game is very up and down and that's why they lost to us. That's probably why they lost to a few lesser TN teams too. Fantastic athletes though with a couple big hitters.

The reason I post here is there are no volleyball message boards in KY with any traffic at all. This is a great thing you guys have here. With that said this will probably be my last post.

Dont do that KY, 90% of us like hearing your persepective..don't let one or two ruin it for the rest. As long as someone wants to talk volleyball--with some sense--they are welcome here.

  18. 28-26, 21-25, 30-28, 25-23

Wow what a game! Riverdale is peaking at the right time!

Siegel 12-0 (siegel still has Blackman and Cookeville this week at home)

    Cookeville 10-2

    Riverdale 10-3

    White County 7-6

Lebanon 5-8 ?? Not sure about their record.

    Blackman 4-9

    Warren County 4-9 ??

    Oakland 0-12

District tournament will be at Warren County.

  19. GLJ was saying "his" in reference to Ivolly being a "he", not assuming that you are.

Also, I'm not exactly sure of all you have said about Impact (and I'm not involved with Impact but rather have watched them often) but they are a strong club program that does things right. When you do things right, then you really don't have to recruit because if the girl loves the game she will come out.

Excuse me for not repsonding sooner to CATU, but I was wiping the vomit off my keyboard.

You make the statement that a player from culleoka could play for Siegel or Page. That is interesting. I should not take the bait on this but I must.... Siegel is one of the 5 best teams in our state. That has been proven by victories over, Harpeth Hall (2), Father Ryan, Brentwood, East Ridge, Cookeville, Centenial, Page Franklin, Independance, BGA, Blessed Trinity (GA), Pelham (Al), Guntherville (Al)..ETC. We have had tough losses to McGill Toolin, Bob Jones, Germantown, Father Ryan, and Brentwood. This accounts for 7 of our 10 losses. i must also remind you that nearly all of these losses came after losing our middle hitter who has been a three year starter.

As for starting for Page High that is almost as ludicrous as well. THey may be down from the championship teams but good lord, nobody could keep that train rolling.

I am taking for granted that the Culleoka Team has it's own club? Or do they play for Impact, or Lightening? You are really making the club this sound so easy. I agree that Middle Tenn has talent, but go to North Central Indiana, Louisville, Huntsville, Central Illinois...you want to talk about talent!...thanks to Impact and other clubs, Middle Tenn is where it's at because of those clubs.

Siegel and Blackman have done well recently in Murf because the kids that were on those teams were playing club in middle school. it wasn't a good club, but it was volleyball non the less. (...plus they both have a great coach)

Isn't Culleoka in Eagleville's district? We played them this weekend.

  20. Does anyone know any good club ball teams that are available after season? We have several players that would be interested but can't find out who to contact.

    where do you live?

    Known Clubs:

Chatt, Murf, Williamson County, Nashville (impact), Knoxville, Memphis. East TN...and more.

  21. I agree with Pool A and B. Pool C - FR and Ooltewah, Pool D - DCA and Collierville and Pool E - ER and Cookeville. Should be a great tournament. Are you going to be there??

    Siegel won their pool

They beat smyrna, eagleville and Houston all in 2 games.

Other results that I can recall.

    Father Ryan beat ooltewah

    Cookeville beat lebanon

    Eagleville beat smyrna
