How did cookeville look?

  2. Morristown West

    Morristtown East

    Cumberland County

    Greenville

    Daniel Boone

    Cocke County

    Eagles Landing GA

    West Greene

    Siegel

Are any of these teams any good? (except for Siegel). I think the coach as Siegel thought that there would be the best teams from the east in this tournament, (no disrespect to any of these teams) really surprised that there aren't more then 9 teams. Will this be worth the trip for Siegel? Too bad AC and SS aren't in it.

  3. Being part of the Sullivan South team, i know what we are made of.we have yet to show what we are really capable of.Although games against brentwood might have been rough, i have seen major changes in the way we play and get better everyday at working as a team. I am completely confident that we will be the number one team this year.we have hard work, dedication, and pride in ourselves and when we play at our top level i think we are unstoppable.

    825725976

SS no doubt will compete, it is going to be an interesting Vball season.

remember though no team in the state of TN is unstoppable. Not this year anyway. Last years state tournament was very young. Brentwood has 7 seniors, Siegel has 6, SS has a few I am sure. Germantown has just about everyone back as well including there best offensive player. Franklin is looking really good already as well.

Will they be at the Top Gun Tournament in East TN?

  4. keep up the good work!

    825726041

a great win for Bradley's program! I saw OHS play at Brentwood and they looked up and down. Very inconsistant. Serve recieve really hurt them.

I am looking forward to seeing BCHS play. I saw then play in the sub state last year @ Siegel. They were outmatched but a good scrappy bunch who just couldn't get anything offensively going. If they can get their offense going... look out. Whoever wins the Chatt Region has a real good chance to go to state. The #2 Team that will come out of the Murf region and will travel to Chatt will be pretty evenly matched with whoever it is. Who are the other AAA teams in chatt that will challenge Bradley and the owls?

I think Cookeville, Siegel and Riverdale have a shot at coming out of this region.

Do any of the BCHS girls play club ball?

  5. Shelby Smith is a young soph who is starting for Siegel @ MB. Not sure how tall she is bu over 6'0 or right at it. She is making a hugh difference for Siegel this year.

Siegel has a great class of Soph with 2 other girls having the potential to play up and a handful of other JV players that will make a name for themselves later.

Sally Reese and Morgan Faulkner. They both come off the bench if need be, the siegel JV team is looking really good. After all they are the defending District 7AAA tournament champs!

Siegel will be losing 6 seniors this year but they have a some really good Juniors and Soph that will make a easier transitsion.

  6. I noticed an outside hitter for Farragut yesterday that had some serious ups!  I don't know here name, but Coach Moore said she was a junior.  Nice player, with a big swing!

    825722291

Parrott is a hugh catalyst for Siegel, at least that is my opinion from watching them. When Siegel has more then Horncamp hitting they are tough to beat.

Cutter is as good as anyone as a setter.

  7. what was siegel score with brentwood

    825722281

Not sure exactly but it was something like 25-16 both games.

It was close till about halfway through each game and then they took control.

  8. Great Report PageMan....we can always count on you.

    825721691

    Thanks Pageman.

    Some additional details.

Siegel beat Ooltewah, Wilson Central and Independance convincingly. It was good to see them come around and play good ball. They also ended up beating Harpeth Hall the day before. Harpeth Hall looks really good, they had beat Siegel a couple times already this year. The losses included Brentwood and Franklin.

I am really impressed with Franklin. They are going to be even better as the season goes on. They have a lot of room for improvement and they are already a pretty tough team. That district will be interesting to watch.

Independance ended up looking as young as they are but man they are going to be tough as the year goes on as well.

  9. Thanks for the report PageMan...

How did Oak Ridge, Hillsboro, and Wilson Central look?

I'll try to get some updates from the Blackman playday tomorrow.

    825720644

Hillsboro is so much improved it is unreal, they still can't compete but they are really doing a better job.

Wilson Central did not look good in my opinion. I watched them play Hillsboro I think.

Oak Ridge was about the same as well, pretty good team but will have problems competing against the the top teams. Surprised to see that independance got beat by Father RYan in 2 games.

  10. As I am stuck at the Middle School tournament at Cumberland University all weekend, could some keep me up to date on the scores...all of them are welcome ;)

I'm keeping score, in an unairconditioned gym (or at least if feels that way) with a hundred screetching middle school players and almost 3 hours between each of my team's matches...

What a way to spend the weekend!

    825720485

I don't have scores but can give you some updates.

Brentwood looked good as usual but Franklin did take a game off them. FHS is playing very well. They (FHS) also beat Siegel. Siegel split with Father RYan and Harpeth Hall got beat by Siegel. Brentwood beat Father Ryan but it was close.

    Page beat Lebanon.

I also got to watch Hixson a little who did not look to bad.

No updates on Idependance or Ooltewah which I am anxious to hear.

  11. plenty of projections from other areas of the state

nobody wants to make any for knoxville?

    825719883

    Nope.

Sullivan South is as close as it will get to Knox.

How is Farragut going to be this year?

  12. I have only seen Lebanon play this summer and preseason, so I will only comment on what I have seen in response to Great's observations.

Maynard is expected to be back before the first official match, Tuesday against Oakland.  Don't know how effective she will be if she gets the green light.  We will see.  Pickler, the setter, will not be far behind, but last I heard there was no definate date for return.

About those two middle hitters...they are HUGE.  The sophomore sister will be a force early and will only improve from there.  She was thrown in the mix last year when they had some discipline problems with upperclassmen.  She played hard in the offseason, and improved her basic skills as well as picked up some new ones.  She is fun to watch, and she loves to play. I wouldn't really classify her as raw anymore, maybe two steps above raw.

Her sister is a freshman and stands only two inches shorter.  She looks about like her older sister last year, so I imagine she will pick up things rather quickly.

They both should compliment the other members of the lineup well, but the team might struggle early trying to fill the spots left by some big seniors last year.

We should all see some good volleyball come October!

    825718288

Very interesting picks. I agee with the top 2. Cookeville will no doubt push siegel. Lebanon is way better then 7th and WCHS will be pretty good because they always play defense.

Siegel, Cookeville, Lebanon, White County & Riverdale will be the top half--in no particular order. Blackman will be really close.

  13. I know it is early, but we play alot, and I want to make my predictions for the state championships.

Div II - This comes down to only 2 teams, Father Ryan and Harpeth Hall.  Ryan has a great program, HH has a great player.  These two teams know each other well.  I thought HH should have won last year.  A new coach who brings positive energy should be the difference.  I pick HH.

DARK HORSE:  GPS - Looks good early.

A/AA - East Ridge cannot be beat.  They play at a different level.  This division is over before it starts.  Maybe the best A/AA team ever.  Everybody else is playing for second.  My pick for second is DCA.

AAA - Looks like #7!!!!  Sullivan South is good, my pick for 2nd.

    825718121

    Very intereting picks.

I like ER alot but I think they are very beatable. If the setting doesn't improve I say they don't win it. I haven't seen Anderson County play but I am hearing good things. I will go with AC as of now.

AAA-- Brentwood obviously is the fav now. but I really think that other teams will improve more then they will by the end of the year. The two best teams I have seen are bwood and Independance. Other good teams....Sullivan South..love them. Germantown has to be top 2 or 3. Then you have Siegel who has a chance to make some noise but they will need to improve. Has ANyone seen Houston this year?

Harpeth Hall wins it this year. They are really good.

  14. How did Cookeville look?

Are they better then East Ridge or Cent HS, or a team of that caliber? Just curious.

I have been pimping Sullivan South now for about 6 months. I got to see them play at the state tourny last year and they were fun too watch. Even though they didn't win much at state, I felt that they were a year away.

  15. This is the most ludicrous rule I have ever heard of! I cannot believe that he still thinks this is a good idea--in fact, I can't believe anybody ever thought this was a good idea  :o

I understand the need to control the coaches...some are way over the top...but even in club the coaches stand and have a prescribed area in which they cannot enter (like the scorers table).

    Puleeezze...post his email...we can start a campaign B)

    825713589

    Agree 100%. Rediculous.

Go to the TSAAA directory (web) and you can get what you need about Bob.

  16. I agree 100%. As I stated last year, watch the twins from Heritage MS. The Perilli Terror is back, this time there's two of 'em. (Remember: big sis Emily is at Virginia on a full ride) Grace and Tess Perilli are a pair you better watch out for. They are only freshmen, but these girls had beautiful jump serves in 7th grade.  I can say that because I saw it myself. Grace was jumping up and making very hard kills over the weekend. Look out for the Perilli Terror!

    825711796

The outside for IHS is the person I would look out for!

  17. What a great playday. 3 days of solid Volleyball.

My impressions coming away was that Brentwood is still Brentwood and Independance is very good. I have not seen Franklin play yet but I have to think that they will come out of that district if it happened today. What a loaded district again, the top 4 or 5 of that district is better then the best team in 90% of the other districts in the state.

Siegel was really up and down but ended on a strong note in my opinion.

They played well against Centinial and DCA but not so good against Harpeth Hall..although HH played well.

Siegel probably ran 10 different line ups in 3 days...or more. So that really affects the way a team plays. I think most teams did that this weekend so some of the ball was inconsistant because of it.

The middles for Siegel really played well this weekend, as well as their right side.

It is going to be very interesting to see how this team improves.

By the way Siegel's JV team looked Very good. A good sign for the futre stars.

A warning to all...look out for Independance for a long time to come. Very young and very good.

  18. Standout teams from the ER/Red Bank Choo-Choo team camp:

Sullivan South - great setter/RH lefty (#7), nice young middle (#13), great libero (#10), good overall teamwork and good coaching.  My initial pick (before seeing many others) out of the AAA East to make it to the 'boro.

Pelham, AL - big 6'2"ish middle who hits on the left in serve-receive and blocks middle.  Hits over even big blocks and in front of back court defenders.

East Ridge - another talented group.  Brock is phenominal.  She and Taylor Parrish will be compared to each other a lot this year.  Both high flyers.  Both could end up as state MVP's in their respective divisions if their teams win it all.

Red Bank - six Seniors (I think) who are working well together.  They should do very well this year.

Cookeville - this team will surprise some folks, but not for long as word gets out.  With a very young but talented big middle they are good and their younger jv kids are good too.  This program is definitely on the rise.  I think they have a tough road to Murfreesboro having to go through siegel/Riverdale, but they have a good enough team to make it very interesting.

Harding Academy - tough team as always.  Not tremendously tall as usual, but great intensity and ball control, along with pure athletes who are quick and can fly.

Dobyns-Bennett - good team and good coaching.

Ooltewah - looks like they could put together a good year with good coaching as usual.

Brentwood - having fun with 7 Seniors who like each other.  Even had some of the other teams dancing and having fun with them (and laughing at them) B).  Some scores available and BHS Team Camp and Blastoff info coming soon at brentwoodvolleyball.com.

    825706880

    IVolley,

You are right about Cookeville. THey are young and up and coming no doubt. THey have 2 good middles that will set that program up. As far as Riverdale, they lost so much last year. I think Siegel and Cookeville will come out of 7 AAA as the district is still down a little. White County and Blackmon are down so that hurts the district.

Sullivan SOuth is very good as well. The lefty you are talking about is young as well...maybe a junior. They beat Siegel last year in the state with terrific defense and the killer lefty. They dug everything hit to them. I really think they are the favorite in the east and can make some noise in the tournament.

    brentwood is going to fun.

  19. The Brentwood team camp will be August 5th thru the 7th.  I'll be there watching the Page team as well as the others attending.  I'll have a report on what I see following each day's play.  The Brentwood Blast-Off pre-season exhibition will be August 19th & 20th.  I'll be there as well and should see how the teams will be in the coming season.  Hope to see you then, clifford20.

    825705974

    Looking forward to it.

  20. Who seems to be putting things together?  I've heard great things about Siegel.  Are they setting up for a run to the AAA finals?

    825705605

I think they have a chance, but they are really going to have to improve aspects of their game.

They have the exact team from last year but there is at least one Soph that will be starting from what I hear. They are playing in the Brentwood playday so that will let us know a little.

I really think that Germantown is going to be really good. They didn't lose much at all last year and they were tough.

If I were to pick a top 4 right know....

    Brentwood

    Germantown

    Siegel

    Centennial?

Maybe the sullivan team that came out of the east last year....they were young
