  1. This Chamionship belongs to Jimmy Whitby not Coach Barger.
  2. That is correct. The game had to move because of an event that conflicts the original 7:00PM Region Time at Harpeth High School. Game is at 3:30PM
  3. Hey OpinionDad (uh... IndianBlue) - It's amazing to me that both your log in names accessed the accounts 21 hours ago. Your thread was started exactly the same way you did last year when you started throwing stones. I guess old habits are hard to break! In regards to the "stuff" - You raise money to pay for the "stuff". You do it because you need the "stuff" and won't have to pay big-box retail prices for the "stuff". You buy team "stuff" so you look like a team. You don't want little Johnny on the field wearing his favorite MJ hoody that you paid $40 for at Dick's do you? I would much rather pay the average of $20-$25 for a screen printed team hoody any day. It shows a sense of pride in your school! Pullovers protect you from the elements and keep arms warm when the weather is cold. Again, you get them cheaper as a team than buying them at Dick's and you get the team logo for FREE! What a deal! Spikes... You'll pay twice the price for the equivalent pair at Dicks Sporting Goods. You may be able to save more in the Eastbay Catalog, but only if your kids wears a Size 14. Uniforms... When you play 20+ game seasons, uniforms get holes in them and wear out. Additionally, Harpeth has the tradition of offering graduating Seniors a shadow box with a uniform jersey in them. These come from the oldest uniforms. The team purchases a new uniform usually every two to three years. Granted Harpeth may have an extra one in there over the past two seasons, but Coach Jones wanted his "brand" on "his" team... I'll give him that one. I didn't like the old ones either. The BUS ??? Are you kidding me! I would much rather pay $150 for my kid to take a charter bus and know that he's safe and that his "expensive gear" that Coach Jones paid millions of dollars for is all secure in one location where it can be locked up and monitored. When you rely on parents as the transportation, then you put the burden on expense on multiple parents, as well as an increased liability. While most gladly accept the challenge to help out, the fact remains that the coach has lesser control in that type of setting. Trust me... I know this from experience. Control is needed and if it comes with some additional costs then so be it! GROW UP and SHUT UP! Look, Lord knows I don't always agree with Coach Jones on every decision he makes for the team or my son as a player. I've coached 90% of these boys since they were 5 years old and in my view the program is headed in the right direction and as a coach first, that is my biggest concern as a friend of the program. As a lifelong player/coach of this sport, I know what it takes to make a program successful. 90% of those programs get that way by doing what is being done now. Does Coach Jones have faults? We all do - Even you IndianBlue/Opinion Dad. Coach Jones wants to build a program that will help the school and his career, but at the end of the day he does it because he loves the sport. I have to respect that! I may not agree with philosophies, coaching style, strategies, etc... but I do believe in what he's doing as a whole. A team that looks good... Feels Good... A team that Feels Good... Plays Good... A Team That Plays Good... Does Good... Players That Do Good... Make Good! I don't see college teams or major league teams playing in two button tees or wearing $5.99 windbreakers. High School kids have dreams! The foundation of any successful program is built around what a coach can build with his team as a whole. Part of that process is having confidence and pride. This is probably something that you don't understand IndianBlue, but something as simple as a uniform or nice field is one of the building blocks to a successful program. It takes more than that as a whole, but it's part of the process. The thing is that if I have a problem, then I go to the source. I have the balls to address any issues with a coach directly. Let me offer you a suggestion. Instead of sitting here waving your flag again trying to stir the pot within the program, how about you grow a set and schedule a meeting with Coach Jones so you can get whatever answers you need to satisfy your bi-polar self and that split personality of yours.

  7. As long as Tommy Victory is the AD at OCCHS the Rebels will be hard pressed to have any success in their sports programs.
  8. It was obvious that there were a few guys that have committed themselves to getting better in the off season. Jonathan has been very impressive over the past year and continues to work hard and he is starting to reap the rewards of that hard work. Parker also did a great job and that Isbell kid from Clarksville is going to be doing damage in the coming season . There should be more summer tournaments for these boys... it really helps with the reality check if you know what I mean. Lord knows mine realized the value of "staying in condition" all year around. As he heads to college in less than 60 days, yesterdays wake up call helped to shine a little light on what dad has been preaching the last 60 days. For you wrestlers... it's what you do now that will help you next wrestling season... not what you do when practice starts.
  9. Today wasn't about results... it was about honoring a great kid who left us before his time. A true friend, leader, wrestler and son who will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered. To everyone who came out... THANKS... I truly appreciate you putting up with the heat in our NON-AIR CONDITIONED GYM. It's not that it wasn't working... there is not any in our GYM, never really noticed that until today. It was nearly unbearable... I mean it was really that close to unbearable There were no losers today... Everyone walked away supporting a wonderful family who has and will continue to give a lot to this sport and to the children of this community via a wrestling room and their loving wrestling arms. The work of Mick and Stephanie Hambrick is a thankless job... and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for doing what you love sooooo much and doing it with everything you have. We should all invest in children like you two do! Thanks again for everyone that came out. For the younger guys who wrestled some tough matches in mixed classes... you'll be better for it. For the high schoolers in the combined brackets... it made for some great wrestling and some interesting upsets. Its funny to see what just a few weeks of "laying out" can do to a wrestler and seeing who IS taking things seriously and working hard in the "off" season. It was a good wake up call to what the rewards can be if you work hard year around. Jacob, you are dearly missed, but your memory will forever live through this tournament and may your passion for this sport run wildly through this area for the many young wrestlers that will come through the doors of wrestling rooms everywhere.
  10. HELLO ALL - We've had a lot of sign up this weeks, things are going to happen for the high school division. The younger divisions are not looking as good. Spread the word. We also have added a new deal as of today. The matches from this tournament will be televised LIVE on www.ihigh.com and the new Jacob Jordan Memorial Wrestling Tournament Website. http://www.jacobjordanmemorial.ihigh.com You can go here to download the registration form and can pay online at that site as well. Since this is going to happen. We need volunteers to help out and we need donations of food, drinks and items for our concessions (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, etc). If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email. bbgocats@comcast.net or (615) 378-1066
  11. Hello Everyone... Things are looking pretty good for our high school division for the Jacob Jordan Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Harpeth High School. We still need to get everyone on the list. Coaches if your wrestlers are coming I need to get them on the list this week. Please encourage them to get me their forms. By the looks of things, we'll have a nice round-robin for each weight class. We still may have to combine some weight classes (ie 140 and 145) but based on the coaches who say they are coming and the registrations that I have in hand, we'll have around 80 or more wrestlers. Not a lot, but enough to celebrate Jacob for the day. The elementary and middle school divisions are going to need to step up if they are going to happen. Don't have many entries. If you have questions or need forms, email me at bbgocats@comcast.net Thanks, Bo
  12. Ok Folks... we're getting down to the wire here. June 12, 2010 is fast approaching. We need firm commitments. Coaches, if you're brining your team, then send me a complete roster of your wrestlers and their weight class they will be participating for this tournament. Do not put this off any longer. I need to put together a list of who is coming and their weight classes so I can let folks know if we're going to have enough to wrestle. At this point it looks like only the high school division is going to make. If the other club teams with elementary and middle school aged wrestlers are planning on coming, then please get me a list of your wrestlers who are coming to the tournament. We have a lot of folks donating time, product and money towards this event. I want to make sure that everything is in line and we have everyone that we need. If you have questions, please email or call me. Get me those rosters: bbgocats@comcast.net Thanks!
  13. Be glad to have (OPEN) one guys, but we need folks to step up and register. To all of the other coaches, this is shaping up to be a great tournament. We have more than a 100+ that say they are coming. I know a lot of folks have verbally committed... I NEED FORMS FOLKS. If you don't sign up and get the forms in I cannot ask all of the volunteers to come out for "what if's" get the paperwork signed and sent back to me via email or fax. If you need a form, I can email it to you. Email me at bbgocats@comcast.net or give me a call (615) 378-1066 I have verbals from folks from 10-15 schools. Some sending their teams, some are a smattering of individuals. Coaches encourage everyone to come out. It's one day to support the family and the memory of Jacob Jordan and his love of wrestling. Let's Do It To It! Get those commitments... I know summertime is upon us now, but this is just one day and will be a great opportunity to get on the mat and support a great cause! Stop procrastinating let's get this one signed so I can move forward firming up all the other ends that we need to get done. 15. Dear Opinion Dad - Welcome back! First, let me apologize for the length of this reply. It's going to be a long one. I'm truly sorry KS, but you know I have to jump on this one. It takes commitment to be successful... end of story. Teams lose ball games 90% of the time because of "the little things" that players (NOT COACHES) fail to accomplish on the field or in the batter's box. It's those "little things" that a player should be working on in the off season. It's virtually impossible to fix things during the regular baseball season. Why? Once the season begins, you start playing the full game schedule. Very few off days to work on "the little things" that keep causing players problems. Trust me I know this first hand... I have two teenage boys! I see it every day! TIME + COMMITMENT = SUCCESS, its the only equation that works in athletics and also in the classroom. My senior son just signed a college scholarship to wrestle in college. The figure comes to the tune of $90-$100K over the next 4 years. Sure, we paid for personal training... summer AAU tournaments, travel to college camps in PA, airline tickets, we've spent thousands of dollars towards his commitment to the sport that he loved. His TIME and COMMITMENT = $$$ his Senior year. In comparison, the few thousand dollars we've spent over the past few years will pay big dividends this fall when I'm not writing a check for $26,500K for his tuition, room and board. He received the scholarship because he was committed to the sport that he excelled. Even while playing football this past fall he was practicing every day of the week and two days a week left football practice thirty minutes early so he could get to personal training for Wrestling, his primary sport. All of this while still managing a full honors schedule and working to maintain his 4.0 GPA. Again... TIME + COMMITMENT = SUCCESS! I coached many of the Harpeth boys in travel ball for a number of years and the parents and players paid upwards of $300-$450 each summer to play on the team. Trust me, $250 is a deal when you consider that the actual costs are involved. You simply have no idea to what the real investment should be. Both of mine missed travel ball this past summer because of the idiot coach (yes I said it) last year who nearly killed the program in its tracks. By season end, most were sick of the game and the thought of playing baseball was sicking. Because of that one of mine suffered this season. He has played at a much higher level and is fully capable of playing there again, but when you tack on another sport and missing an entire summer... well he knows that he doesn't want to do that again... and if he's not committed, he won't be on the diamond ever again. What else do the boys have to do this summer. Coach Jones has already laid out the deal for vacations and other commitments that may require someone being absent. I didn't run to my calendar and start changing my vacation plans. If you want your kid on the field next season, then they need to be committed in the off season. It's just that simple. If they are complaining about giving up their summer... save yourself some money and a lot of suffering for your child. Jump off the team now. If they don't want to quit and want to play. Then encourage your son to be COMMITTED! heck, don't encourage it... Demand it. Your investment in directing your child now will help them realize great success come Senior year. Nothing will make you more sad then having your son look at you and saying, I wish I would have been more committed. I was lucky, mine had another sport that he excelled... he loved baseball, but wasn't as committed because he's had a different coach every year he has played baseball at a Harpeth school. However, he did look at me at the beginning of this season and say those very words. It will break your heart. Do yourself and your child a favor. Figure out what they want to do with their career and set some goals. Then sit down and list what it is going to take this summer to achieve those goals. If the first thing on the list is take the summer off... well... you'll understand what you should do. Coach Jones... we'll see you this summer!
  16. Hello All... The Wrestling Tournament IS ON for June 12, 2010.... as of today anyway! As of right now everything is still a go for June 12, 2010 at Harpeth High School. I'll be confirming this with the administration at the school on Tuesday. Since school has been suspended for the year, the dynamics may change, but Coach Woods feels like everything should be ok by the June date. With that being said, we've had a good showing of high school coaches contacting about their team coming. Please confirm with me ASAP at bbgocats@comcast.net. We really need a good showing from each team to make this a successful event. Another update! SEAAU has stepped up and is making this an AAU Sanctioned Event. We are working on getting an online registration setup this week. Again, we need volunteers for concessions, tappers, clock runners and table workers. We also need donations of water, cola products, food and deserts from the hospitality room. Tim Abel and his crew have agreed to offer their services for the day, so this is a great opportunity to raise a lot of money for the family to cover expenses from Jacob's services. Coaches look for flyers this week in your email with all the details. We're opening this up for the Elementary and High School Age groups it looks like. We have not had a lot of interests in the Middle School groups. Please, do not sit back and wait to see if this happens or not. If folks don't commit up front, I'm not going to ask folks to do a bunch of work for nothing. Talk to your wrestlers now and get them involved with this event. It's in the coaching window for TSSAA and is a great opportunity to get on the mat and honor the memory of a former wrestler. Let's Do It To It folks... Call or email with questions. Thanks - Bo (615) 378-1066
  17. Yep KS... mine was in an uproar too... and the talk was chattering so much come Monday that I got two phone calls about it from others. The reality is that it's ok to cheer on your team, or get in their butts... even chewing on "blue" a few times is alright... but when parents start making direct comments to players on the field they have crossed the line. Kids loose their cool - it's a fact. They don't have the "what if" factor brain matter yet... but adults do! If you're singling out players on the opposing team out of frustration... you should be ashamed of yourself. However, if Mr. Punch'em from Overton wants to step up to the plate... well I'm not a 17 year old baseball player...
  18. We have limited space available to us, so here is what I'm going to do. We have a pretty good commitment level from the high school and OPEN divisions. I'm going to say that the first age group... I don't care which one that can fill up the brackets in their division then we'll drop one of the others that have not. There have not been a lot of inquiries in the Middle School Division, so if we can get a better showing in the elementary divisions then we'll go with that one. I spoke with Mick Hambrick tonight and he wanted to tell everyone thank you for your participation in this tournament to honor Jacob and his family. He also wanted to send thanks to all of the coaches that sent cards and letters from their respective programs. He was very humbled by your thoughtfulness. We're looking to see if we can secure the Middle School across the street, if this is possible then we'll hold matches there as well to get as many involved as possible. If you have coaching contacts please email me their email addresses to bbgocats@comcast.net I'm putting out a flyer this week that will explain the process and what the divisions will be and how to make your payment. We will have a firm cut off date on this one and there will be NO WALKUPS... so you will need to register for this tournament up front.

  20. Thanks Coach. I will check with TSSAA today. I would like to hear feedback from everyone. Let me know if you would rather see an AAU or USA. eMail me at bbgocats@comcast.net Tournament is getting a good response. Continue to spread the word among the coaches across Tennessee.
  21. We are checking insurance issues right now. Our goal is to make this an open tournament for all who want to participate. Details coming soon. Coaches, I would appreciate your input here on what you would like to see. The response has been good. The Middle Tennessee Officials Association is donating their services for the day. We've literally had dozens of folks donating food and assistance over the past week. It's going to be a great tournament. Spread the word... we need a big showing here... especially from our high school wrestling family. We want to make this as easy as possible to attend. A day of good wrestling with the only goal to support a wrestling family in their time of need and remembering a dedicated wrestler, friend and leader on the mat. Again, we need to come together here and make this an event like no other.
  22. I concur... and just for the benefit of Cheatham Fan... The last time we played you we had to turn off the scoreboard. Just saying... since we're going to throw verbal punches...
  23. Maybe the question is what you call a hit and what is actually an error?
