  1. Just called Manassas to get brackets for 16AA boys. It appears they are playing a girls game and a boys game each night this week. Boys are at 7:30 so girls must be at 6:00. Boys games this week are:

    Tue- Westwood vs Trezevant

    Wed.- Manassas vs Raleigh Egypt

    Thu.- Douglas vs Craigmont

    Fri.- Sheffield vs Frayser/Fairley winner

  2. Raleigh egypt had to play without head coach (ejected from Cordova District game and penalized two games) and their asst coach (ejected from b game several games prior and PENALIZED BY THE MIAA because "he hadn't sat out enough"). The AD coached the team so this was a testiment to the players resiliency to go into a hostile environment without a coach and lose to a good team by a tip-in. Hats off to the Pharaoh players.

  3. Bearden is ranked 26th on rivals and 29th on espn!!

Raleigh Egypt is ranked #49 by Rivals even though record is incorrect. Posted 29-2 when actual record is 33-2. RE is ranked #4 in the southeast by Prep Nation and Wh. Station is ranked #8 in the southeast. Bearden not even mentioned.

So What!!! It will all be decided in a week's time at Murfreesboro "between the lines".

  4. By the way, "jaded or dysfunctional Craigmont fan"? I didn't know people from my neighborhood(I live in Raleigh) spoke like that:)

As I said before, I support all of the North teams, but one especially in particular(my username should make it obvious who that is).

How do people in Raleigh speak?

Must be one of those Manassas Tigers' supporters. You and Legend are a trip! Good luck to Manassas in the state. If they learned anything from last year's state tournament disappointment...they will bring home the gold ball.

  5. You seem to be a great fan of basketball and some of your points are well taken...however, you also show Raleigh NOOO respect for the year they've had or the teams they beat to get there. To hear you tell it, they have been lucky to win at all this year against far superior talent. How many times does a team have to win before they prove they are solid team with a will to win and not just lucky?

  6. Obviously Egypt fans were excited(Why not?). I'm a Northside fan(not the Cougars, but the Northside of town). I like to see all of the Frayser, Raleigh, North Memphis teams do well. Melrose didn't come to play at all. That White STation game must've took a toll on their attitudes. They weren't aggressive as they usually are. They both disappointed me. Hines needs to be the point guard. Holmes isn't gonna get it done. He is TOO shaky with the ball, and Brady shouldn't touch the floor anymore. You're obviously a Raleigh-Egypt fan. Don't act like they are that much better than any of the top teams. If Chris Mason could hold his water, Melrose would be City Champs. I've been a little guilty of "hating" on Melrose this year but I'm man enough to admit that, you should be too. You know that wasn't the same team that played for the City title. I'm pulling for Raleigh-Egypt, and if Bearden beats them and/or White Station and wins it all, I'm going to be EXTREMELY upset. If Bearden has some type of fullcourt pressure, Holmes is gonna cost em. Hopefully, he'll prove me wrong.

First of all...Raleigh may not be THAT much better than the top teams but has beaten ALL of them this year.

    Ridgeway 76-65

    W. Station 83-72

    Olive Bran 61-54

    Kirby 87-69

    JCM 70-52

    Liberty 54-35

    Craigmont twice

    Melrose twice

Did I miss any of your TOP teams? Didn't play Central.

Holmes has been the starting PG for last two years. RE record 59-7. Hines cannot play point. Mishandles the ball too much trying to overdo and has an attacker/scorer mentality. Dominates the ball when it is in his hands and that is not PG's role.

  7. Middleton also got blown out in their own gym. Manassas and Craigmont looked like they played poorly because they both make their opponents look ugly. Shaq was off that game, and neither shot was a hailmary. Buckner's 3 to tie was barely a 3(I even question if it was), and Shaq's three was right in his range. When the OT started, Manassas came alive and opened it. They looked like a superior team. Then a couple dribbles out of bounds while they still had the lead(one by Carroll) gave Craigmont a chance. As for Craigmont, you can't be serious. They lost to Liberty by 2 in the MLK finals, which Melrose failed to reach. White Station just edged by Liberty(who beat Ridgeway), and Craigmont beat Ridgeway and White Station. They didn't "luck up" and beat Egypt. They did what they've done all year, clutch. The second game was at Egypt and they allowed Craigmont to cut a 16 point lead down to 5, at home. Craigmont then turned over the ball after they picked it up right underneath the basket and Egypt put it up and scored. No telling what would've happened. As for the District finals, Tank Brown was hanging on Zach Jones all night, nothing was called. Craigmont missed a ton of free throws and fast break lay-ups, with Richardson in questionable foul trouble and Durham(their obvious most important piece) straining his groin in the 3rd quarter on the comedown from a dunk. If I'm not mistaken, the second Liberty loss(62-46), as well as the Cordova loss(65-58) were played without Durham. And when he DID play against Cordova, they annihilated Cordova 95-49. Try to include all the facts next time /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I always include the facts and only speak of what I know.

Couldn't figure you at first, thought you were one of those die hard Melrose fans, but it now seems you are a jaded and disfunctional Craigmont fan. If Durham is #1, he played in every game I saw them play. Was good in some and no factor in others. Liberty took them apart in regional semifinals. Craigmont looked as if they didn't want to play. Scored 8pts in first quarter and 4pts in the second.

When Craigmont made their run to beat Ral-Egypt, AJ and Tank each fouled out on highly questionable calls with at least two minutes remaining, Raleigh up 8 and with the ball. The last two minutes were a fiasco with a bottle being thrown on the floor by a Craigmont fan and Craigmont fans running on the floor twice before the game was over and nothing was done in any of those cases. Zach Jones took three steps before he put up last shot and no call. It was all luck.

Craigmont had size and a few good athletes, but their shooting was streaky and that's all they wanted to do...shoot threes and dunk. They lacked cohesiveness, direction and heart. Great frontrunning team, and might have been able to win state if they had put team over individual goals.

  8. Widely accepted by whom? And from what evidence? I've seen them shoot average, below average, and I've seen them light it up. I don't know how you can gauge them against Scotts Hill or Middleton. Was Lake County within single digits at any point in the second half? You wanna know how good they are, ask Craigmont. When I saw that game, I was convinced I had to be watching the 2 best teams in the City and the A and AAA State Champions. Craigmont had beaten White Station and Ridgeway at that point and beat Raleigh-Egypt shortly after. If they're point guard hadn't got hurt against Raleigh-Egypt, I don't think anyone could stop them from winning it all(maybe Melrose). They were DEEP, with size, shooters, athletes, defenders, rebounders, shot-blockers. And they were a AAA team that, unlike Humboldt, was tested against some of the best, and passed. Manassas was the only team this year that out-toughed and out-lasted Craigmont, which is something that I can still hardly believe they did, because Craigmont plays the best clutch ball I've seen this year.

    Firestone

You're off the chain man! I also saw the Craigmont/Manassas game and Both teams played lousy and both looked like they were trying to give the game away to the other. Took a hail Mary from Buckner to send into overtime and another hail Mary from a Manassas player to win. Don't know if it's that way every night but Manassas didn't shoot very well at all in that game and tried to shoot themselves out of the game. Buckner played most of the game 20 feet from the basket and didn't cross halfcourt several times.

Craigmont did have a good team this year but they weren't great. They lucked up and beat RE on a last second shot in first meeting this year...Raleigh then beat them by 10 in next regular season game. Beat them for district championship. This makes 16 out of the last 19 games that Raleigh has beaten Craigmont over the past five seasons. Liberty beat them twice this year and Cordova beat them.

If Buckner will play hard in the state tournament...Manassas will be hard to beat. My only concern would be their outside shooting. It's either feast or famine. Don't misunderstand...I'm pulling for Manassas to win it all but I'm also realistic and know they will have to be hitting on all cylinders cause nobody's going to make it easy for them. Middleton came close didn't they?

  9. Pretty much what TraderB said would happen. Melrose came out with NO fire. It looked like two middle school teams playing. Other than Chris Jones and #23, they showed no effort at all. They were sleep-walking, and Raleigh-Egypt could still barely put them away. I couldn't believe those were the two teams from the AAA City Championship. Anthony Jones played with fire. Chris Jones showed heart. Other than that, it was pitiful, on both sides.

    Dude,

What game did you watch? You must have been one of those rabid orange mound fans that got up and abandoned their team when AJ threw down a poster dunk on Melrose with 2:00 to go and it was obvious that Melrose had no hope. Never really had much hope from the opening tip. RE beat Melrose every way you can be beat and CRUISED to a 24 pt win. Maybe you thought RE looked bad but not a single RE fan agrees with you and I bet the majority of Melrose's fans know they got clocked!

  10. Apparently my prediction of a White Station 18+ blowout over Liberty.....this fired up Liberty /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Of course not.

Man, I was definitely wrong, wrong, wrong about Liberty!.

    ------------------------------------------------------

Liberty obviously played an outstanding game and gave White Station all it could handle, and then some. This appears to have been a very competitive, exciting ballgame!

    Congratulations White Station.

    Excellent season, Liberty.

Did I not try to warn all of you about Liberty? I think I said they would give Wh. Station all they wanted and if WS took them lightly...they could lose. Props to Dexter and the crusaders, they are always a tough out.

  11. Don't forget...Liberty beat Wh. Station this summer. I know that is a stretch to go all the way back to the summer, but i bet Wh. Station hasn't forgotten it.

If Burton is healthy, he will have to match liberty's #1 who is like a bullet with the ball. He can shoot the three but likes to drive and dish. Usually gets his defender in foul trouble. That leaves Joe and Hollins to match up with the wings. #11 for Liberty is their best player. He will have his hands full guarding Joe...but joe will have more problems guarding him. He is relentless and can score in a variety of ways. Hollins isn't as quick as #11 so i expect him to have #12. He is a solid shooter but has some problems handling the ball.

The mismatch will be inside where Wh. Stat. has a huge advantage in size. Liberty's inside players are 6'4" and 6'1". Don't underestimate them. They are great at positioning and using their bodies and can finsh around the basket. The 6'4" kid is really good and can shoot jumpers as well. Wh. Sta. should dominate the boards if Liberty is missing; but, it won't matter how big they are if they're taking the ball out of the bottom of the nets all night.

If White Station takes this team lightly, there could be an upset...if Wh. Station comes to play, they should win.

  12. The Memphis City Schools have their own radio network...88.5Fm. They often carry the "game of the week" and sometimes more than one a week. WMCTV.com also films games of the week and broadcasts them over the internet live and archives them for later. Memphis isn't as backward as you might think Choctaw...bet we're ahead of Newbern.

  13. In East TN, school, morals, and these teenagers going out with their girlfriend or playing Wii are more important than basketball or any sports for that matter. Not saying one way of thinking is better than another, just pointing out the differences.

    Stokomo

What gives you the obviously biased opinion that athletes in Memphis don't value school, have morals, go out with their girlfriend or play video games. I don't think East Tennessee thinks a bit different from Memphis.

You would have people to think that Memphis fields such strong teams because the players are ignorant, immoral, out committing crimes, and only think about basketball??? Shame on you for needing such a weak excuse for your argument!
