I see a lot of region 1A championships and a lot of undefeated regular seasons in 1A. (The weakest region in the entire state) But I don't see any gold balls. Where are they at??? Yeah you guys were all right those times, but what happened in the playoffs when you had to play somebody. I'm not taking away from your teams back then, they were good and it is an achievement to go undefeated in any region and regular season. But don't talk trash unless you're Maryville or Riverdale that can win a state championship. If you ever do then you can talk.

What playoff implications does this game have for both teams?

What is the big problem with the Oneida Offense? Is it turnovers? bad playcalling? bad execution? or is it it just players out of position? I know Coach Wamp very well and I know he knows the game and is a heckuva coach. It just puzzles me to see Oneida not scoring. Any info???

They won't be accused of recruiting, they'll be the enemies of the two local KY teams that have recruited the Harrogate/Powell Valley region for years. I'm glad to see that these kids are staying on this side of the mountain and making a name for themselves here. I just hope that trend continues and a tradition is started at Cumberland Gap High School. Panther Pride!!!!!

The boys from CG are going into this region game coming off a 60-6 shellacking of Thomas Walker,VA. There was never a doubt on Friday of who would win. The only question was if everybody would get in the game! But now it's back to a more serious week. North Greene is 4-3, new to the region, and are a pretty good team from what I hear. They have put up some big rushing #'s this season and it will be a tough task for the Panther D to slow them down. They have a big challenge in front of them this week. Can they step up to the challenge and keep this momentum up? I expect them to keep their focus and be ready on Friday. Not sure about the North Greene D, but I expect the Panther Offense to keep on keepin on and do their thing. They get better every week and I don't expect anything less this week. CG will win this one but it won't be easy. CG-42 NG-14 Panther Pride!!!!!!!

This game was never close as the Panthers rolled over the outmanned Pioneers 60-6. Everybody played and everybody contributed in this win for CG. Thomas Walker fought hard but couldn't match up nearly enough with the Panthers. Congrats guys on a big win. Saw some good things from some players that don't get a lot of recognition. That's the good thing about games like this. Players gain valuable field time which allows for depth going into the playoffs. And if you don't know depth is huge in the postseason. Now for you guys talking about Alcoa and all this and that. These guys don't need to be thinking about Alcoa or anything right now but their next opponent and I'm sure that that's what they're doing. North Greene comes to town this week and it is a must for the Panthers. Good job on Friday guys. Panther Pride!!!!

Word is that Hester will not play tonight. I heard he's been in the hospital for the past couple of days. Guess it will be up to Beason and Shipley to lead the running game tonight.They are more than capable seeing as how Hester has been on the line the past two ballgames!!!!

You may be right, but the Gap has gotta play like TW is the #1 team in the state.....(Of Virginia that is ) If they don't then TW could sneak up on them. It's scary to play these teams like this. A true test of a good team is to beat the teams you're supposed to beat. And if you're suppose to beat them bad...then you do. I'll stick with my prediction on this one. It's hard to tell since it was the first game of the season. It's obvious though that they were right up there with the best CG has faced this year. South Greene and Happy Valley were also very very tough. Coalfield could probably match up with either of those teams as well. You guys have a very good program down in Coalfield and I wish you all the best the rest of the season.

I would like to see that game again also! I agree with you totally, The SG defense is amazing. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season. It was a barnburner the first time and I wouldn't expect anything less if there were a second time around. Maybe that will happen....in the first or second round!!! Easy there big fella!!! No one needs to be looking anywhere but to the next game. And that is Thomas Walker. You shouldn't even be mentioning Alcoa or North Greene or anybody else right now. The Cougs are definitely struggling this year. I hate to see it too, they got some good kids on that squad. Keep on fighting boys, don't give up. Play your hearts out and make the most of this season. Bearden by 21.

King even makes us wrestling fans look bad. One thing is for sure though, the hardest part of this game for Cloudland is the long drive to Jellico. Cloudland by 30.

The Cumberland Gap Panthers have really had a good year so far. They have won some big games that they got thrashed in last year. Good job so far Panthers!!! Keep it up!!

Truth of the matter is that very few high schools have the combination of a great QB plus 3 or 4 good recievers that is required to make a spread effective. Further, the spread is based on timing...a timing that is very hard to achieve given the limited practice time available in High School... That is not entirely true. You need a good qb that makes good decisions, and some receivers that run good routes and make catches. You also need a pretty good line to give the qb a little bit of time. If you throw a bunch of short passes, and get pretty good at it, you will find that you are moving the ball just as effective as if you were punching it down someones throat with the run. I have always enjoyed a good running game, but what you don't realize is that when you spread it out and throw, it opens the run up a lot more. Get a couple of average running backs in the spread and it will surprise you. But the most important thing in running the spread is total dedication by the entire coaching staff. Yes you do give up a little bit of defensive time, but it all pays off in the end. It makes you work that much harder in the limited defensive time you have. But when you're scoring 35 per game, you just gotta hold em to 34! The best offense is the one that your staff believes in and that your kids buy into. :justwrestle:

Well the Panthers are coming off a long and productive road trip, (4weeks, 3 wins one open date) and are looking to improve their overall record against a struggling Thomas Walker team. The Panthers can't forget about the scare against TW last year though (40-33) in a game the could have went either way. My question is how will the Panthers be after a very emotional and hard fought victory at Happy Valley on Friday. They must keep their focus and intensity and come out and take it to TW. If they do this, it shouldn't even be a game. If they don't, they will be in for a dog fight like last year. One game at a time boys, and take care of business. I know that CG plans on playing a lot of players, from what the coaches tell me. They have a couple of guys with some different roles this week. So they plan to keep the freshest people in the ballgame on both offense and defense. Not to mention the fact that htey seem to be in pretty good shape to begin with!! Panther Pride!!!!!

I agree flip, there's gonna have to be some pressure put on the qb. If you let that HV qb sit back there, he'll pick and pick you apart. I hope CG has a good game plan to slow HV down. I think it will be interesting to see the mindset of the Panthers after a long road trip, going into such a big region matchup such as this.
