1. well we only let our third leg and 3200 runner run the open eight because our other three legs of the four by eight, also are three legs of the four by four which also qualified for state with a 3:29 so we had to pick our races to count in rest for both relays, we decided to go team first us last. that would be why

and why is cak times so down this year, from what i rem. they only lost one leg last year from state

We lost 3 to graduation and 1 to transfer. This is a brand new group.

  2. I think between USJC,CAK, and Station Camp, the 4x8 should be very fast and interesting this year. I expect the top three times this year to be in the 8:12 to 8:05 range possibly lower. Which is definitely the fastest on average its been for A-AA in the past 20 years. Are there any other teams out there that anyone knows of that have a legitimate chance at running sub 8:13 in A-AA?

CAK was 3rd place in the East with an 8:40. They aren't guaranteed to get to state. Do you know what the 3rd and 4th place times were for the Middle section? I can't find any results from that meet online.

  3. Track/Field is new to our school (2nd year). As a parent of a kid who has played the major sports (Football/basketball) forever, I can offer my opinion as to why coverage is weak. Events are just too darn long, and primarly boring for long stretches of time. Just last week at the Cleveland meet, the events started at 4 and were barely over until almost 8. Four hours? It's just ridiculous. Keep in mind I'm new to track, but who wants to cover events that last that long? My take? Reduce the number of events, or start the track events at the same time the field events are occurring. Yea, I know some kids do both, but I've never seen too many Shot Put guys running the 100! Track does get little coverage, but the sport does absolutely nothing to make it exciting. You guys that run and organize the events are appreciated (without you, nothing happens), but surely some different type of format could make it more exciting for all, and possibility get more local paper coverage. Maybe the TSSAA mandates the format, I really don't kow, but I'll remember what I was told at my 1st meet last year by a parent "if you ever are told you have only 1 day to live, go to a track meet, and it will be the longest day of your life". I love running, and have run in over 100+ road races and marathons in my life, but something is just not right with Track/Field right now at the High School level. Remember, just my opinion!

In the past 5-6 years there have been a number of track and field athletes that have come from TN that have represented the state very well on the National level while in HS and just as well as they have gone off to college. In just the last couple years the National Champion in cross country and the best female hurdler in the country have called TN home. I would say that Track and Field in the state of TN is very healthy. With all the success we've been having recently, I'd say that we don't need to change a thing. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure any of the "major" sports have had success on the national level anywhere near what the runners in this state have. Just my opinion!

Apparently Carter was taking it easy in the Sub-Sectional since he was able to go .84 seconds faster when it counted.

I'm glad I don't have any sprinters or relays sitting in the 3rd or 4th spots in the East and Middle sections waiting to get one of the extra qualifying spots.

  5. I just saw the results of the West Sectional Meet. It would appear to me that this meet was hand timed, and if this is the case, how does qualification to the state meet work when the East and Middle meets are FAT and the West is hand timed?

It looks like the first two races were FAT, and then after the 100 hurdles their all HT.

  6. Your forums are available at either www.tennesseerunner.com.

No offense, but this is the one place where Tennessee runners talk about, y'know, athlete stuff. I don't think anybody minds if coaches post here, but threads where coaches whine about coach stuff...kinda clutters the board.

There have been 17 posts (including this one) on the track board here on CoachT in the last week.

And 6 of those posts were discussing important "athlete stuff" such as pool olympics.

I'm not sure anything is getting cluttered.

  7. i believe i speak for the majority when i say, "sure, let's change the subject. but we don't care THAT much about the 4x400, though thank you for not trying to entice us with crappy statistics about the open 100."

As tactical as the 100 can be (start fast-run hard) I don't think I could even fake statistics on a race thats done in 11 seconds. Would that be 50 meter split times? I thought instead I'd ask about the longest sprint race there was. As far as that goes I thought both Brainerd and AE lost several to graduation.

  8. QUOTE(macdaddy @ May 17 2007 - 10:30 AM) 826461031I believe the TSSAA pays your school for mileage costs and the number of athletes you bring.

In certain cases the T$$AA will pay mileage costs, but for most teams they do not. I believe this was when the Spring Fling was in Memphis and there were schools in NE TN that were travelling over 8 hours to get there, but even then the amount they were "reimbursed" by the T$$AA was negligable. A couple stories I heard (and you know how these go, they may or may not be true):

A school from the Tri-Cities area was sent a check for 32 cents to cover their travel costs.

Another school from somewhere in the east never received there check. They called the T$$AA about it and were told that the check was not being sent because the postage exceeded the amount.

Again, I have no idea whether these are actually true, but they were told to me at a coaches meeting a couple years ago. I guess the general idea here is you pay your own way, the T$$AA needs every cent they can get to pay their legal fees.

  9. QUOTE(Coniglio @ Mar 26 2007 - 07:46 PM) 8264232834x4 wise look for Brainerd, and Austin East as well as Elizabethton. Don't know about middle or west.

I think the 4x4 to beat in the east this year is going to be Gibbs. They looked really strong, and seem to be pretty motivated. I wouldn't be surprised if they were under 3:25 before seasons end.

  10. He has a younger brother Taylor, probably a better 400 runner than a 200 runner. The boys only had freshmen and soph. and the girls were all freshmen. Our 4x8 should be strong again, probably faster this year.

  11. QUOTE(gphstrack @ Mar 15 2007 - 09:29 PM) 826413438Just got back from a meet with Pigeon Forge, Cosby, and Cocke Co. GP won by 102 points (without completing the 300 hurdles, discus, or triple jump due to rain). Clabo only ran two events: the 1600 in 4:35 and anchor of 4x400, 3:57 (same team ran a 3:49 on Monday).

Things are coming together nicely for the highlanders.

Ryan Robertson won the shot with a throw of 43'5".

Bo Owens won the 3200 easily with an 11:22 and then went on to win the 400 in 56.12 and the 200 in 24.69 before running the 4x400.

These were the only 3 competitors we had at sectionals last year and finished 6th. Just wait until we are fully loaded.

Jeremy Jester is on track to be a strong contender in the high jump. 5'8" on Monday at Gibbs (I made him stop after he won at 5'2" today). He also won the 200 on Monday, beating Mitchell Moran from CAK(2nd at sectionals last year). He crashed on 110 hurdles today, so I made him call it quits for the day.

    Our 4x800 team ran a 9:03 on Monday and Clabo rocked a 2:07 800.

I'm not trying to be like Elizabethton and talk trash, I just want everyone to be prepared.

    Happy Running!

I was impressed with how you all ran the other night. I was kinda hoping that Clabo would run the 3200 at Gibbs, I wanted my younger guys to see him run, but I'm sure they'll get more chances later this year. He looks really strong, I'll be rooting for him, as long as one of my guys isn't running against him of course. BTW Mitchell didn't run Monday, he was in NYC with the rest of the seniors, and the Juniors were in D.C.
