Are you sure this is the reson he did not take the job I had a friend who had inside information that it was something else was the reason he did not get the job. i am not going into any thing like that it is what I was told.

topper 1 do you not think the quaterback mess was enough to mess a team up i think so. You may want to admit or not something was not right with that . i do believe with most of the players on the field was smith choice but it takes only one to mess up the chemistry on your team. i knew somebody in the topper nation would say what you said but if one kid is given special treatment then they all will be asking for the same thing as i stated in my post if you do things the right way the wins will come.

To get science hill to being a winner year in and year out they must start doing things the right way. When i say that I mean we must get the politics out of who is being put on the field. i go to other parts of the state and it is not who you know but who is working the hardest that gets the pt (playing time). Right now if our players are not playing another sport they should be in the weight room. Lets try to lay the foudation down to have a great program that all can be proud of but we must stop playing players because who they parents are or are not it must stop for us to go foward. I know alot of people are going to say that is not the case at science hill. Another thing if coach smith is going to be the coach then we must support him regardless of what you think. If you are a parent you cannot go to the kitchen table at night and be crtical of the coaching staff and expect the player to go to practice with a good attitude. you have more influence than you think. Science Hill fans do not worry about wins we must do things right then the wins will follow.

i think alot of people are being misled here i don't think what bowles did here was bad he was getting his team into the playoffs every year i just think people thought he was not the man to get them to the next level competing for a state championship. when bowles arrived science hill football team was in a wreck only 35 players on the team he got the ship going in the right direction enter coach smith. What i think people wanted was to get to the next level that is exactly what he brought here to do. Now when you go around town saying you are going to do this and that and then you don't deliver on those promises then you are going to have problems. i like coach smith i think he is very creative with what he does but you have to be realistic with your self. Does science hill have enough of the kind of atheletes he needs to run this type of offense and defense? Me personally I think the answer is no we have some good atheletes but do we have a enough year end and year out it will be a stretch. We must be real and ask this question is this type of football and coach smith a good fit for us.

mr. Bigg there is more than one way to skin a cat you do not have to run a kid to get him to change his atitude i thought you was a coach. playing on a high school football team is not a right it is a priveledge. When you have your parent meeting before the season starts you lay down the law to the parents. and you also let your players know attitudes will not be tolerated the best medicine for attitudes is the bench. It is a very good medicine for this. if the parents want to know you tell them what has happened and tell them you was told in the parent meeting about your solution to attitudes. And yes Mr. Bigg the coach is responsible for all aspects of the program from attitudes to the won and loss records if he wasn't why is called the head coach.

does anyone know if Toma is being recruited by any school and if so what position is he being recruited. Just wanted to know I have some contacts and might be able to help out.

Every body listen it is not all the x's and o's it is about jimmy and joes i believe that the head coach thought be cause he had a great offense that it would make the difference. What makes a good coach is being able to handel all the different attitudes that you have on a team. Everybody can say what they want it is ultimately the coach fault when things are not done correctly on a football or any other sports team. it is his job to make sure they do thier assignments, it is his jobs to make sure players can catch the ball, run hit, this is what he is getting paid for. We can make up all the excuses we want in the end it is his job to put a good product on the field. he had to know some of the things that wsa happening with his team if he failed to handle this part of his program thing it is his fault because the wheels fell off. i beleive coach ss came in to this program and let some outside influence creep in that need not be there and look where it has gotten him. Say what you will this program is in a mess and please do not blame this on bowles this is all coach ss. It is one thing to loose but with the stuff going on inside of this program it is about to implode on its self.

i posted a couple of days ago about the state of this program and how i think coach smith has lost his players and i also posted i think this program is going in the wrong direction. The situation that is going on now is terrible it has to start back to the head coach i do not want to bash a coach here but he has to be accountable for what is happening with this team. losing games is one thing i can handle that but this stuff outside of the program is poor management by the head coach. i will say it one more time the grass is not always greener on the other side.

I like the post that you wrote and i think it is very true that players are made in the off season and it is true that there are only so many blocks that a lineman must know but please remember it is still the coaches responsiblity to make sure his players are prepared on friday night. Now if the players do not know thier assignments then they should not be playing. If the parents have problem with that then little johnny needs to pick it up in practice. i do want to say one thing do not blame the coach if your son is not playing, a coach is hanging himself if they have a stud on the bench and not playing him. believe me I have been around sports along time if your son is not playing there is a reason and the most obvious is that he is not cutting the mustard. han in there topper! good luck friday nite.

who is the carpetbagger you are talking about and how have they hijacked this program. We have to learn to be pysical I have been saying it all along finesse is a good change of pace but against the good teams you have to able to line up and punch them in the mouth. i agree with the other post we will see it again friday nite. In football coaches don't invent things they look at there opponents and see what otdher teams have done and they do tdhe same thing. 8 men in the box and i dare you to throw the ball. Your quaterback has to prove he can make throw then and only then will the defense will get out of the box until then good luck.

this is very bad to see a football program with so much potential ran into the ground like this. I know alot of people will try to put a good spin on this but simply put the Toppers are not very good right now. i know what is being said out there we must give Coach Smith time lets get this straight this was a playoff team last year so the very least this team should have been positioned to be in the playoffs. The last couple of teams under Bowles was 7-3 and 6-4 (i might be wrong correct me if I am) so the direction is going the other way. Coach Smith said in a interview that he knew there was a lot of things needed to be corrected with the program and it was going to take some time. That might be true but one thing under coach bowles the teams was very physical and listen the most parts to thier coaches. Coach Smith has lost this team you tell by thier play and the body language all of this start with the head coach you can put a spin on this if you want but this coach might have this program going the wrong way can he correct this I hope so but it will take some time and hard work good luck toppers!

Say what you want to about Bowles the game is about running and hitting what you have with Smith is gimmicks do you think you win state with that offense and that type of defense. Don't get me wrong the offense and the defense that is being used now is a great change of pace but to hang your hat on it will get you beat in the long run. We have to get our kids to physically better. Look at the teams that beat us they all was physical with us. Bowles had some teams that was very physical say what you will about the man when he arrived his first team had only 35 players. The mark of a good coach is if dyou left the program better than when you arrived.

Science Hill fans many times the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence. I believe you got rid of a good coach in Bowles thinking you was getting some gold. When you get fools gold it is very hard to come to grips that indeed you maybe have been fooled. Hang in there though things might get better but in the future look at things harder people are not always what they seem. By the way bowles is having a great season down the road in Virginia.

I have been quite lately because it is so funny how when a team start to lose the fans that was with them start to fade away. Like I have said many times I am new to this area what i dont understand is the way people get on this site and start dogging players. i believe science hill is still a very fine team with lots of good players and like every team out there if you know your football they are trying to get some things right and adjusted. Lets start backing these players and coaches because I believe they are working hard to put a winner on the field. Science Hill fans it is still very early in a very long race lets come out Friday night and show the team that we are behind them. Four games on the road is brutal to any team so lets make Friday night something special and show Cherokee what it is like to come into the Toppers house.

Alright being new to this area and going to watch Elizabethon and Tennessee high last friday and seeing Science Hill play there is one thing very few people out there is talking about is SPEED and by the looks of it Science Hill has plenty of it. I think Tennessee High is a fine football team but the kids at Science Hill can straight get after you. As I said before Science Hill front four are very good bunch speed, power define the group to a tee. Science Hill linebacking corp is very fast with #54 in the middle. My prediction Science Hill by 14. good luck to both teams on friday.

I agree with you about #4 on science hill defense he is a monster he is not very big but he gets after it pretty good. Matter of fact science hill starting front four is pretty darn stout i know I have not seen the rest of the conference but if thier is a better front four then this league is going to great to watch. I am so happy it is FOOTBALL TIME in east tennessee is thier anything better.

I believe this Science Hill team is really hungry from what I can see from the first two games. What I noticed from the stands Friday night was the way each player was supporting thier teammates. I agree with the last statement this defense could become a really good unit because of the size and speed they have. I just hope the coach continues to turn them lose and play. Having lived in other parts of the country I have seen to many times coaches forget what gave them success and try to change things. As for the offense I think we need to be more patient with it because of the timing involved with the spread offense it might take a little more time to develop.

If you are looking for some of the top players in upper east tennessee look at some of the players from science hill #6 david alexander # 4 markey latham #77 ben murray all of these young men are good people and will be a positive to any college program

Being new to coach t and to upper east tennessee last night science hill game was impressive all I have been hearing since being hers was football up here was not physical. The science hill defense really impressed me with thier size and speed. science hill defensive end i believe his number was #4 really gave elizabethon fits which allowed his other teammates to get the sack or rush the quaterback into throwing a bad ball. If this is any indication of football in upper tennesse I am going to enjoy living in this part of the country.

Did anybody hear about tdhe science hill, greenville scrimmage yesterday I seen some of it and science hill had speed and alot of it they handled the green devils pretty good.
