  1. Do you know how many people normally are on the Maryville football team? If any team should be moved up to 5A I think Morristown West should. I believe they have 87 on their roster.
  2. Since basketball is starting soon, will there be a contest for it?
  3. Since you were playing then you must have known that 3A was the biggest size in Tennessee. You must know that in order to get into the playoffs you had to be undefeated and since you were playing then you also should know that team only lost won game over the course of 3 years. Teams were better back then. They could walk over alot of these teams. 1971 State Championship Tennessee 52 Covington 0 1972 State Championship Tennessee 39 Baylor 6 **And one more thing...the team THS easily beat in the '72 State Championship were ranked National Champions in '73. It looks like the majority of the people back then knew how Tennessee would stand against teams from Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
  4. I agree. Since when is a Tennessee High vs. Elizabethton game not big around here?
  5. Yeah I remember that one. They beat DB and Elizabethton that year and still lost the opening round.
  6. I honestly don't know who will win this one. Both teams are impressive. But DB has Duran Ferguson and Tyler Nottingham (Was he suspended this game or when DB played Soddy Daisy?)
  7. Anyone that has seen both of these teams play, should already know what the outcome will be. Though Elizabethton will be prepared. I did see two older guys (probably assistant coaches) dressed in Cyclone material wearing black hats with a orange E on the front with an animated cyclone on the back of the hats. They were most likely taking notes on both of the teams' plays and performances. They were sitting on the South Side by the way and didn't appear to worry about the notes for a little while because they went somewhere almost the entire halftime before they went back to get them.
  8. Why do you think we are worried? You know why. Tennessee will be facing it's toughest task in over 30 years. Now if this was the 1972 Vikings playing, I wouldn't worry about any team in the playoffs, but this isn't the National Champions. Elizabethton won't beat us. They might next year though. We easily defeated them 35-3 in the second game of the season and will be well prepared for them. Now on to Maryville and Central Whoever made the comment about Central beating Maryville, I don't see that happening. I would like to see that game but I will wait for the next round hopefully. You may not believe it, but I'm really not trying to offend any Maryville fan on here.
  9. Yeah but you can't go by some records around here; You can't go by who beat who. Sullivan South is a good team. They have some people on their team that really wanted the victory last night and they showed it. It was pouring down and they were fighting for every yard they got. When a team plays with as much heart as they did, you hate to see them lose. The problem with South is that they are too emotional in the game. If they are trailing 7-0 they think the game is over. You can't have that type of attitude in a game. If they played with the type of optimistic attitude they had last night, they could have easily went in to that game with a 10-1 record. As for the teams in Region 3, Powell had 3 losses and nearly defeated Maryville. It's hard to go out and beat the same team twice in a single season. They already know what your coming with. If we went by who beat who then... Region 3 Maryville defeated Region 2 Morristown West 38-0 (sounds impressive) Region 2 Cherokee(an 8-2 team) defeated Region 2 Morristwon West 24-0 Region 1 Tennessee High destroys Region 2 Cherokee 48-14 (Now the top match doesn't seem that impressive when a "no competition region" team easily shut out Morristown West just like Maryville did later in the season when both teams have improved.) Yeah I think other schools in Region 3 are good, but I think it's mostly fabrication. If they can easily defeat Tennessee High than why are they not 2nd in State? Because they can't beat Tennessee High. First of all because they won't face Tennessee unless they upset Maryville. Secondly, they won't go into the game with experience against Tennessee. It's real easy to hold your own against a team when you have already faced them and know their plays. 1st Game Maryville easily defeated Powell 42 to something (13 or 10 I think) 2nd Game Maryville 21 Powell 16
  10. I have no clue, but Oak Ridge seems to play very well against DB. Beat'em last year and had a good game earlier in the season. In 5A I think it will be DB, Oak Ridge or Riverdale(to win state). I looked on Riverdale's schedule and they have been giving a lot of shutout victories.
  11. I guess they made the decision for the game to be at the Castle due to THS playing at the Cyclones field earlier in the season and that THS beat them in that game. I don't really care where it's at. It's not a long drive to Elizabethton anyway.
  12. Sorry, but according to the TSSAA playoff brackets on their site, they have THS listed as the home team. THS was also specified as the home team on WKPT and Touchdown Friday Night. I was suprised though since the program does say the team further down the bracket will be at home in the third round.
  13. How is being prepared taking games lightly? I can see your reasoning with the game last night, but when you beat a team 52-7 earlier in the season it's hard to get the kids to focus on them and not look ahead. THS was expecting Sullivan South to go out there and be a little risky with the ball instead of playing conservative. Sullivan South made a 180 degree turn on their offense by using the I-Formation. They had trouble stopping it, so they were not prepared for it. But I will tell you now, they WILL be prepared for the Cyclones. They've been given a second chance and they are not going to pass it up.
  14. Finally a reasonable comment. I don't want to get people upset but if you honestly believe Maryville will beat Tennessee High 56-2, think again. I'm not sure who will win but it won't be a blowout. So far both teams are realizing that you have to take this one week at a time. Tennessee 31 Sullivan South 17- That game was a lot closer than the score indicated. Beating a team twice in a season can be difficult. Just go back to the plays that got you here and quit relying on brand new plays that you have never done before. Maryville 21 Powell 16- That score suprised me. I wasn't there so I won't comment on that game. Good luck to both teams next week!
  15. The Vikings will be prepared for the Cyclones next week. They took South a little too lightly last night and they didn't go for the plays that made them undefeated this season. Next week all Tennessee High fans will get to see the familar Vikings as they end up defeating the Cyclones. Prediction THS 34 Elizabethton 14
  16. The biggest problem with the THS team last night was they came out passing. They started doing something they rarely do and the South team could tell it. In the paper today Coach Gregg Stubbs said, "We need to look at half of our plays and throw them out, we need to do what got us here and we are going to do that next week." Hopefully the weather won't be as bad next week
  17. I went to the game at the stone castle tonight. I wish it wasn't raining though. After Sullivan South had a 10 minute drive in the second quarter that made the defense pretty tired. I was very nervous at the beginning of the 4th Quarter with the Vikings trailing 17-16 after instantly shooting up a 16-0 lead before halftime. Thanks to the special teams and defense for capatilizing on Sullivan South's late mistakes and having two late touchdowns to show for it. Next: Elizabethton After That: The game everyone here has been waiting for. Will the Vikings beat a whole other set of Rebels?
  18. Yeah there were a few scalpers up here at the THS and EAST game that paid 100 bucks each for two tickets. They probably regretted it though. I looked on the Maryville website and it said your city had around 20,000 people. Are their a lot of kids who normally go out for the team.
  19. The score was 2-0? That reminds me of that college game that took place a few weeks ago. I think Penn State played in it and the score was 6-4.
  20. What is your most memorable game ever in high school football? Mine would have to be Tennessee vs. Elizabethton in 1997. If I remember correctly, it was snowing and both teams were putting on great performances. Tennessee High ended up winning 15-13. I believe that was also the year Elizabethton made it to the semifinals to face Maryville.
  21. I predict the Indians will come out on top. Prediction DB 27 Soddy Daisy 14
  22. Major Canty and Mo Whitten both have pretty good recruits looking at them. Ivy League schools are looking at Major. The sad thing is not many are looking at Brandon Anderson, mainly due to his size. 5'5" 155lbs.
  23. Prediction: THS 49 SS 7 Tennessee will once again defeat Sullivan South. I think they will go on and defeat Elizabethton next week due to Matt Eads being out due to surgery on his hand. Prediction: THS 42 Elizabethton 7
