  1. So I read here and elsewhere that Smyrna is in the playoffs even with a loss at Siegel and a 5-5 record. Then other articles say that Smyrna has to win against Siegel to get in. Anybody know for sure? Just trying to figure out exactly how much is riding on this week's game.
  2. So you are going ahead and making Siegel a winner over Smyrna this week? O.K. I will be sure to tell the real SHS not to even go to the game since it is a foregone conclusion.
  3. Funny how nobody is talking bout how DIRTY some of "Da Haven" players are. When you throw an opponent into the bench then taunt both opposing players and coaches on their own sideline, you need a lesson in class. I really like how two of your players decided to throw some punches late in the game. At least the refs decided to make a call and ejected those thugs. How about the double personal foul penalty called on Smyrna in the first half AFTER the SHS player allowed the Whitehaven player to punch him in the stomach three or four times before retaliating? This is not an isolated issue. I have heard many stories of teams visiting "Da Haven" and having issues with players, fans, etc. Justice always prevails and the best team with actual class won the game. I also got a kick out of the Whithaven announcer saying at halftime: "Next week in Cookeville is the State Championship game and I am looking forward to seeing the Whithaven Tigers play for the State Title". Well I am sure the TSSAA will allow all the Whitehaven faithful, including their PA announcer, to purchase a ticket to see the game. Somebody forgot to tell Smyrna that Whitehaven was a shoe in for state. Oh well. Just like any time a little kitty matches with a big dog, the bow wow takes care of business every time!!!!! GO DAWGS!!!!
  4. And if Ole Wyatt had come to Smyrna against this team instead of Tombstone, he would simply be a footnote in a book somewhere. Glad you brought he!! with you. Not nearly as scary as I had imagined. GO DAWGS!
  5. I'm not a coach, I don't even play one on TV. But when you get the ball one time in the second half and Ensworth shows that they can simply ground out the clock, you MUST go for it on 4th down and 4 from the plus side of the field with only 5 minutes left. Instead we run a quick kick (which was terribly short) and within one play Ensworth has it past where the line of scrimmage would have been if Smyrna doesn't punt. Unfortunate loss, but maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Now get ready for Riverdale.
  6. Wow. The kids deserve better. I wonder if Tory Patterson put his name in? He was a monster coach at SMS and worked as linebacker coach at LHS the last two years. This guy definitely deserves a shot somewhere to show what he can do at the high school level. Smyrna wouldn't have back to back state championships without this guy.
  7. My sources say that a disagreement with "Daddy" is what led to Hester's resignation to begin with!
  8. I guess when you say that R.C. has NEVER had a minority head coach you mean recent history. Coach Leo Martin is African American last I checked and he was the first head coach ever at Lavergne.
  9. The modern marching band is a direct decendant of the military band. Music has been played for marching long before there was football. During WWII many football teams were shut down for the war, but guess what continued? Marching Bands. Nobody on here is arguing the fact of band vs. football. The issue that I and others have is when people make ignorant comments about the band programs and they know absolutely NOTHING about what is involved. I can talk X's and O's so I am on this board. Do you know the notes of a B-flat concert scale? NO. So don't speak of what you do not know.
  10. I notice a bunch of east TN'ers complaining. This is probably a direct correlation to some East TN counties having to dissolve their band programs due to ignorance and lack of support. Here in Mid TN and apparently in West TN, we still get it. As stated in my earlier post, I love football as much as anybody, but what do you think came first? Football or Marching Band? That's right the Marching band.
  11. I happen to be the band director at Smyrna Middle School, and I will talk football with you or anybody. X's O's doesn't matter. I've played and won championships in football with Donnie Carter and others. So for the comment made about "fruity" band directors not knowing anything about football, I say simply SHUT YOUR MOUTH about what you DO NOT KNOW And SECMAN, if you have a problem with my band playing, I invite you to come to MY SCHOOL and tell MY STUDENTS that the time and effort they put in on a daily basis is not WORTHY of your football game attendance. Yea, your middle school (who by the way?) got SMS the last two years. Congrats. Do you even want to talk about the previous generations of SMS football who probably beat your schools brains in? Here is an idea, talk to YOUR band director and have him or her play at your HOME games to give an edge.
  12. Having never been to Maryville High before, how many folks does the stadium seat? How many folks do you guys expect for the game? thanks.
