  1. White Station does have to win this week to get into the playoffs.

I know in years past, that two teams from the same district can not play in the first round of the playoffs. If this is correct, then if WS wins we would play at Brighton.

Does anyone know if this still applies?

It doesn't apply anymore... If White Station wins and is the #2 team in the district they will be awarded with a first round game at Da Haven.

  2. Mad Props to District 7, but there is a team in District 16 that's about to do something special in these 6A playoffs!

[sN] I do believe White Station would be a super tough 8 seed btw... They are still "the defending 6A state Champs." Coach Rutherford knows what he's doin...

  3. I'll throw my 2 cents in on some Big Games in Memphis, Mainly Class AAA (5A and 6A) with a couple of Div II games in there.

G-Town vs. Ridgeway will come down to who is the more disciplined team. Ridgeway gives up nothing on defense, however, G-Town's offense can lull a team to sleep long enough to pop a big one and knock a team off balance. This battle between 2 great Memphis-Shelby Co. Metro Area coaching staffs will determine who will be District 15-AAA champs. I look forward to the outcome of this one!!! 8-):thumb:

MUS vs. CBHS should be a close hard fought game... Now when I say close the score could have a combined score of under 20 points or over 80. This Memphis Area Private school Rivalry is one of the Best in the Mid-South, thus the reason the game will be a part of the Yall vs Us series on TV. Big Time and Bright Lights :popcorneater:

St. Benedict vs. Briarcrest will be another hard fought Private school contest. I look for a shootout in this one. Well over 60 points between both teams even though Briarcrest will be playing their best receiver as well as a 9th grader at QB... Major Wright is no joke as a Coach... SBA's Wilkins' Brothers are a legit Dynamic Duo!

Millington vs. Craigmont: Millington is playing for their Playoff lives... Craigmont has a youth movement going on with their Soph. QB, Sam Craft, leading the way. Because of Craigmont's youth they may not even realize how BIG of a game this is (the Chiefs WILL lock up the District 14 AAA championship with a win) which may play in their favor... If Millington can play their ball control style of football this may be the most intriging finish of a game tonight. :popcorneater:

Mitchell and Kingsbury will be a showcase of athleticism tonight out at Da Haven... Both teams should be hyped for this one... I'm sure Mitchell is chomping at the bit to get out on the field to redeem themselves for last weeks perfomance, while Kingsbury just wants to prove that they can hang with any AAA school in the city being that they are a AA school and they own a victory over G-Town and only lost by 10 points to Brentwood Academy.

Central vs. Melrose: Melrose is trying to position themselves for a possible District 16 AAA Championship Match up vs. Whitehaven next week. If They can hold off BIG Cam Clear and Memphis Central tonight they will be in the mix to make that happen!

Southwind vs. Wooddale is a possible loser leave town match up in District 15 AAA. Javon Robinson and Co. would be just about finished if they lose this game tonight out at Oakhaven. I bet he is up for the challenge... We'll see if Southwind's Bend but don't Break Defense will hold up their end enough so that their Junior QB, Darrius Henderson, can make something happen.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for our Game, East has a lot of size! A lot of Great Athlete's as well as A Lot of guys who go both ways! This game will come down to Conditioning.

  4. My predictions for Quad 4

    1) Whithaven 9-1

    2) Brighton 9-1

    3) Arlington 8-2

    4) Wooddale 7-3

    5) Germantown 6-4

    6) Collierville 6-4

    7) Houston 5-5

    8) Cordova 5-5

Cordova @ Whitehaven -- Whitehaven wins big 21 or more

Houston @ Brighton -- Brighton wins by 10

Collierville @ Arlington -- Arlington wins by 14

Germantown @ Wooddale -- Wooddale wins by 10

Sorry Millington by my projections you get left out this year - but I could be wrong it could be Millington instead of Cordova.

That looks like a pretty fair guess, however White Station may just win out. If they do that either Houston or Cordova would not make it. White Station's next 2 games will be Hamilton and Mitchell. They have the coaching staff to win their way in. I truly believe that White Station would be a very dangerous 8 seed.

I can certainly see why you have Cordova in instead of Millington. Cordova's last two opponents have a combined record of 2-15 while Millington's opponents have a record of 14-3, plus Cordova has beaten Millington. If Millington doesn't make the playoffs I know that they will be very disappointed.

I can hardly wait for these next 2 weeks to pass in the Memphis-Shelby Metro area (Districts 14,15, and 16)! :thumb:

  5. That is why it is a MESSED up system! Not fair for a Brighton or Dickson to get a #1 seed in 6A when they are playing 5A or lower games!

Same as it is not fair to a 5A team that is in a mostly 6A district. Everyone knows that the seeding is important because of home/away and that first round game. A Dickson or a Brighton are getting rewarded while an 8-2 team in district 7 is getting it stuck to them. I know that the good teams will come out of it eventually but we are rewarding scheduling down instead of up.

U said the truth in ur last sentence... The good teams will win out, point blank period... District 7 AAA is the only District with all 6A schools. So what... This is not college football, the best 3 or 4 teams will make it out of that District, however, Only 1 of them can play in the championship game, so it is what it is. It's not unfair. Either Blackman or Oakland or Smyrna or Riverdale will WIN out... It would be more unfair if 2 of those 4 plays in Championship game to me. I'm just sayin

I would like to give my Quad 4 projections off of what I see in the above link and off of what I know about Districts 14, 15 and 16...

Who's IN: (as far as I can tell)

    Whitehaven, Arlington, Brighton.

Who's on the Bubble:G-Town, Collierville, Wooddale, Houston, White Station, Cordova, Southwind, Millington.

District 15 looks like it will go down to the wire... District 14 seems a bit clearer. These next two weeks in the Memphis-Shelby Metro area will be very interesting! :thumb:

  7. Arlington and Craigmont will have massive playoff implications for this side of the 6A State Playoffs seeding!

CBHS vs. Briarcrest will come down to who makes the Big Plays.

Wooddale and G-town will be a defensive struggle. Will Wooddale stay discipline against G-Town's Option attack? Can G-Town's Defense hold Wooddale's Javon Robinson? Whoever can answer those questions best will win!

Ridgeway seems to be on a mission! I have yet to see any real holes in their game but Southwind is not goin to lay down for Ridgeway... This could be a trap game for Ridgeway, but Coach Sutton seems to have his team rolling along.

Hardin Co. vs Brighton... The winner of this game could determine who makes it out of the West to the Semifinal game!!! All Eyes in Brighton!!!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for Whitehaven Tigers vs. Mitchell Tigers I must say that Mitchell has athletes all over the Field! They have size! They have a very solid Defense! This game will come down to COACHING AND EXCECUTION :thumb:

    I almost Forgot!

    RESPECT DA HAVEN

  8. Really??...please explain!!

    http://www.tssaa.org/footballplayoffs/wildcard.cfm?class=6A

If Brighton is to outright win their District they would have home field advantage the first two rounds of the playoffs. Looking at the above link you would see that Brighton could/would be the #1 seed in the 4th Quad... If they win both of their HOME playoff games and have to play say us (Whitehaven) or a Wooddale or a Southwind in the Quarterfinals, I see a long bus ride out to their place... Those longer than normal bus rides on Friday afternoon are always a disadvantage for the road team IMHO... Some folks think Hardin Co. is the cream of the District 13 AAA crop, so IF Brighton wins it should serve notice to all the Memphis-Shelby Metro 6A schools that a possible long bus trip out to Brighton, TN aint no joke!

Thus the reason I think this game holds the key in the 6A playoff race to who makes it out of the WEST (Quad 4) to play that Nashville/Davidson Co. Area team (Quad 3) for a chance to go to Cookeville. :thumb:

  9. First, I want to appologize for getting this topic out so late.

Week 8 is here and it's time to seperate those who will be playing past week 10 from those who will be looking forward to the basketball season. There are a lot of districts that will go down to the wire in deciding who advances and who stays home. By and large, however, there are teams who MUST win this Friday if they have any chance of playing in the post season. There are other games that will be the determining factor on who will be a Wild Card and who will be seeded. With that being said, here are my week 8 'Big Games in Memphis'.

    District 14:

    Arlington (7-1) @ Craigmont (6-1)

    D2-West:

    CBHS (5-1) @ Briarcrest (7-0)

    District 15:

    Wooddale (5-2) @ Germantown (4-3)

    Ridgeway (7-0) @ Southwind (3-3)

    District 16:

    Mitchell (7-0) @ Whitehaven (6-1)

    Bonus:

District 13: (Outside of Memphis but will have playoff implications)

    Hardin Co. (6-1) @ Brighton (7-1)

That's it for me. Your turn.

  10. :roflol: OK, whatever. :roflol:

LOD and all the other East Tenn and Middle TN bias folks, It doesn't matter how yall feel about Memphis High School football, the playoff games will speak for themselves... I dare say White Station doin what they did last season just maybe the catalyst that Memphis and the Shelby Metro needed to show it's newfound domination in 6A... Just don't be surprised if it's District 16 vs. District 7 in Cookeville on Dec. 4th :thumb::shock:

  11. Maryville, DB, AND Oakland are all in the eastern part of the state for playoff purposes, so only ONE of them will be playing for the Gold Ball. As it stands now it looks like DB will get beyond the first round this year, but will choke on the second or third game. A team coming out of Memphis to play for the Gold Ball is a once every 5-10 year thing and they had their turn last year.

I figure it will be Oakland vs Brentwood for the Gold Ball this year.

District 16 is not to be played with this season

  12. Whoever makes it out of quad three is going to win it all. Right now Smyrna, Oakland, Blackman, Brentwood, McGavock, Ravenwood, Mt. Juliet, and Franklin are in quad three. Tough, tough. With the exception of Ravenwood all are doing very well this season. Franklin is the biggest surprise. Did not figure them to be there after what i saw at the preseason scrimage. Mt Juliet is always a solid team year in and year out. McGavock has put together a good season. One of the better teams out of Metro. Although Metro has fallen off the last couple of years. Then there are the four remaining teams. All of which could either win it or go pretty deep. It will be interesting the next couple of weeks to see the waters clear and get some clarity of who plays who and where. As of now it looks like Oakland, Smyrna, Blackman, and Franklin will play at home for the first round. We will see how it pans out. Good luck to all quads. Go Bulldogs!!!

I don't get how u can say that when a school from District 16 is the defending champs of 6A and you still have teams like Whitehaven and Wooddale who could come out of the WEST... I want to give mad props to District 7 and some ofthe other schools you have mentioned, but yall folks must understand that the West (namely Memphis, TN) will be in the thick of this State Championship picture. White Station pulled it off last season, don't be surprised at someone else doin it this season...

  13. In the Shelby Metro Area it's between these guys in no particular order:

Jaylen Walton- Ridgeway High. Jr. He's SUPER FAST!!!

Javon Robinson- Wooddale High. Jr. He reminds most people of a Ricky Williams type!

Artaves Gibson- Mitchell High Sr. He's a big back with speed and Quickness.

lil Marcus Holiday- Fairley High Jr. A Super Talent.

Mark Dotson Jr.- Whitehaven High. Soph. He's a Big Play waiting to happen!

Brian Kimbrow- Memphis East High. Jr.? He's the # 2 rusher in the area!

honorable mention: Julius Lewis-Whitehaven High Sr. Ryan Heaston-Cordova High Sr.

I personally think Walton is the best of this bunch.

here are last week's stats for the Memphis area.

    http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/sep/30/memphis-area-leaders/

  14. Just curious Senator... why would you rather see a west v. middle matchup?

IMHO District 16 and District 7 AAA are the toughest leagues top to bottom in the state! I also think they have the most talented teams. So, whoever makes it out of those gauntlets would have EARNED their way to that Ring.

  15. \

After my blowup last week, let's see if the "vision" has returned.

Winners..1. Ridgeway-Just might have the tools to make it all the way to MTSU

The Football State Championship games are in Cookeville, TN home of my Alma Mater Tennessee Technological University, Not Murfreesboro, TN ... Just lettin u know.

  16. Maybe this link will help us all better understand the 6A playoff picture... I think all teams with a Quad number by their name would be in the playoffs if they started today...

    http://tssaa.org/footballplayoffs/wildcard.cfm?class=6A

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to play around with the numbers provided for Quad 4 it would be...

    Whitehaven

    Wooddale

    Collierville

    Southwind

    Nashville Overton

    Dickson Co.

    Brighton

    Arlington

Personally I don't think Dickson Co. or Nash. Overton will realistically be over in the "WEST" but who knows with the TSSAA!?!?!?! All I know is if We (Whitehaven) win, we're in and with the exception of Wooddale none of these teams mentioned would want to come to Da Haven for an away Playoff game... I'm just sayin

    RESPECT DA HAVEN

  17. It's officially CRUNCH TIME! It's Now or Never. It's time to seperate the contenders from the pretenders. This is where the rubber meets the road, and any other cliche' that you can think of that may be apropos for this time of year. We are getting deep into district play and just about every game counts. With that being said, the following are my 'Big Games in Memphis'.

    District Games:

    Ridgeway (6-0) @ Wooddale (5-1)

    East (3-4) @ Mitchell (5-1)

    Arlington (6-1) @ Cordova (2-4)

    Germantown (3-3) @ Southwind (3-2)

    Non-district Games:

    Sheffield (5-2) @ Whitehaven (5-1) ... [Thursday Night]

    CBHS (4-1) @ ECS (4-2)

Ridgeway and Wooddale will be prime time District 15 match up between two ELITE level RBs. #1 J. Walton for Ridgeway and #2 J.Robinson for Wooddale. Whoever can contain the other's electric RB should have a shot in this one, however the QB play for both teams are solid also, so it may come down to who wins the Turnover battle... Ridgeway's D gets plenty of ink but Wooddale's D is nothing to sneeze at... I think I may have to ride out to East Memphis Friday night to see this one! :popcorneater:

East vs. Mitchell should be a high scoring contest! Both teams have outstanding QB play as well as excellent wideouts with Nate Cole Jr. for Mitchell getting the most ink. This shoot out should come down to which QB can put their team in the best plays on the field. If East's depth doesn't betray them I could very easily see this game stealing the News Highlights spotlight off of the Ridgeway vs. Wooddale match up!!! District 16 5A should get even clearer after this contest is concluded.

Arlington and Cordova will be an exciting District 14 6A match up. Arlington will be playing for R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Da 'Dova, led by Ryan Heaston, are playing for their Playoff lives... The outcome of this one should prove who else on the West Side of this State is a REAL CONTENDER for the 6A State Championship!!!

G-Town vs Southwind... All I can say about this Neighborhood game is that Southwind has the opportunity to show that they are ready for the big time with a win, however, G-Town will be attempting to remain the big boss of Germantown, TN!!! District 15 6A will really come into focus after this one.

CBHS and ECS should a nice clean football game.

White Station vs. Melrose should be very entertaining. Both teams have an array of young talent.

    ----------------------------------------------------

    As for our game,

Sheffield has a great coaching staff and some good athletes. WE have to be ready to roll because those guys won't be laying down for US!

    RESPECT DA HAVEN
