Since Portland was off this week, my wife and I attended the Wilson Central-McGavock to watch one of her co-workers sons play, who plays for WC. We get there early and get really good seats in the middle of the field, and as it got closer to game time, we were surrounded by a loud group of WC parents. We were stunned and outraged by the rude behavior and rude language that these parents displayed. Whenever something bad happened to their team they cheered, whenever something good happened they were silent. A lot of cursing. When players were injured on the field, these parents kept talking loud, running down the team and the coaches, while there were hurt kids laying on the ground. Most shockingly, they loudly criticized individual players on the field saying that they sucked and that their kid should be playing instead. What kind of pathetic loser attends their kids games and criticizes 16-17 year old kids? I don't know Traye Aric from the man on the moon, but after reading the posts on this thread, I am sure that these horrible parental "role models" will be blamed on him as well. My wife and I will be attending the Portland-WC game later on this year and safe-to-say, we will be sitting on the Portland side.

How successful have all of these new coaches been at Portland? Did their teams improve from the last year with the old coach to the new year with the new coach? I know that the Girls Soccer coach was successful this year, but is that the sport that the City of Portland/Portland High School is going to hang its collective hat on?

I heard an interesting story this weekend from a very, very reliable source. Apparently the head coach of Greenwood, KY wanted to trade film with the head coach of Portland before their game on Friday, which, I am told is a very common practice. But, instead of sending him the film requested, the Portland coach gets a camcorder and videotapes the film off of the TV so that it is grainy and hard to see. In doing this, the Portland coach fails to realize that the camcorder is recording sound. And by sound I mean the voices of the Portland coaching staff joking about how bad Greenwood is AND the plays that they are going to use to defeat Greenwood. The Greenwood head coach watches and listens to the film and has his entire team watch and listen to the film, which, oddly enough, fires them up enough to beat Portland 43-0 at Portland. What happened to a school and city as prideful as Portland, to let the program turn into amateur hour? My prediction this week: WH 40 - Portland 0
