  1. Congratulations to both teams. Webb for winning it and USJ for getting there. Sorry this year is over, but looking forward to next year. Merry Christmas everyone!
  2. USJ runs from a 4 wide receiver spread on most every play. Most times the backfield is either empty or 1 back. They make line calls and are very effective throwing where you "aint". Having seen both teams in the last two weeks this one is very hard to call.
  3. Well said Trojan fan. I was just as shocked as I could be based upon the exact things you mentioned in your post. I was at the game last night and Webb dominated in every way. 35 - 7 at one point. I would not have believe this possible. On one on the ECS side saw that coming. Oh well, this is why they don't play the game on paper! Congrats to Webb and to USJ. No way would I try to predict that one. Good luck to both schools.
  4. I ususally don't make predictions, but I'll be surprised if its even close. ECS just has too much, not to mention, if memory serves me it was Webb that defeated ECS for a title some years back. So there may even be some revenge thrown in to boot. I'll go watch it and see what happens.
  5. To TigerFan901, your right it is a very competitive league now and it is by enrollment, its just that ECS is nearly 50% larger than all of the other schools in single A. In fairness to them, they are at a similar disadvantage when they are in AA. So they choose to play down rather than up and even inside their school some are happy with it and others are not. They have a very good football team and Jim Heinze is a great coach.
  6. It was a great night of high school football! Friday night lights. We (FACS) lost to better team. Its no disgrace to get beat by a better team and walk across the field when its over and shake hands. FACS kept it close for a while. 7-7 end of 1st. 13-20 end of half. But in the end we had no answer for their passing attack. Pass defense is our weakness, passing is there strength. Not a good combination for FACS. USJ is a very good football team. I'd like to see them and DA next week. I just don't see how anyone can stop their air attack. In fact, no one has stopped it other than ECS, which clearly should still be in Div. II AA. In the end, the 4 top seeds advance.
  7. Good luck to ya'll in Nashville Trojanfan. I, for one hate to see Coach Veazy go. Coach Spain retired 3 years ago from FACS so were starting to see a changing of the guard in our area. Netherland and Heinz can't be to far behind those guys. We have been privalidged with very good coaching in our area for a very long time. I'm sure the new breed of coaches will do fine (We really like Coach Purvis at FACS) but its sad to see those coaches step down.
  8. Haven't seen DA this year, but based on the fact that they beat Webb and had several chances to beat DCA, It looks like there as strong as usual, even with Justin being out with the Knee. On the other hand SBEC can be very good, especially passing. At the same time, they have had a couple games where they made a lot of mistakes. I would favor DA, but also believe SBEC is very capable of winning if they are on.
  9. Well said by all. On paper, I'd give the edge to Webb on size and speed, however, they don't play on paper and I'd never bet against Ken Netherlands' teams. They are always very well prepared and they typically execute very very well. Rarely do they beat themselves. But, in the end Webb, may simply over power them as they are not very big this year.
  10. Ex Spartan, as to a comparison between DCA and ECS. In my opinion there is no comparison, and I don't mean any dis respect to DCA, because as I said earlier they are a very very good team. However, ECS is clearly in the wrong league. They dressed 95 or 96 players when they came to FACS. They are very good with no weaknesses. They have not been challenged in the league and I doubt they will. They are big and fast at most every position.
  11. Trojan fan, I think you analysis is pretty good. However, the score differential in the game comparison was affected by 11 turnovers in 2 games by FACS. I also think you analysis of our pass defense is on the money and from what I know it appears USJ will probably fire right at our weak spot. However, as you know anything can happen. For example, I believe SBEC threw 4 interceptions vs St. Georges and SBEC is also a very good passing team. We played very good against DCA, they are a very very good team. We had what amounted to 2 goal line stands. One, they went for 4th and 5, the other they missed a field goal. Dane Wilson, did have another big game. ECS is the only team to contain him and as we all know, that is another story all together. From what I gathered talking to some of their dads and such, they really did not expect to lose to FACS.
  12. I have not seen DCA play but I know DCA, Webb, and DA are clearly the class of the east this year. If you throw out ECS in the West, then you have a fairly tight grouping among USJ, SBEC, St. Georges, FACS, Jackson Christian, and Fayette. USJ is probably the strongest of that group as they are the only DII A team to compete at all with ECS. Even though FACS is coming off 3 straight loses, I believe they should be able to matchup fairly will with DCA, but will have to play an error free game to have an opportunity to win this one. Obviously, I hope FACS wins.
  13. Good matchup this week between teams that should be fairly evenly matched. Have had similar results with similar opponents so far this year. This is historically a fun series with FACS winning both games last year and St. George winning both the year before. This is a non-division game but both teams are comming off of losses so they each are wanting to get things going in the right direction. St. Georges lost a close one to Jackson Christian, while FACS was overpowered by the much bigger ECS. (ECS dressed 96 players for the FACS game on Friday.)
