I recently picked up my 8th grade brother from his first Blackman workout and he preceded to tell me that coach Shad said there are currently 175 varsity players and 101 eights graders signed up for freshman ball for a total of 276 football players for next years teams!! That's a huge roster I am wondering if its true does anyone know anything I don't? If they have that many players to fill positions they will be another contender this coming season with a lot of depth. I know Riverdale had concerns about there roster size bc of the split when Blackman and Siegel were built I know they had a smaller team last year but it doesn't look like Blackman is going to have to worry about that. Thoughts?

Maybe its not a punishment in your eyes but it is something earned by someone given to the other person. I don't think your making any enemies either this is just a blog of people's opinions nothing personal. PBD pointed this out I'train also only played about half of the games in 4-5 games. He had many games where he only got 10 -15 carries and rushed for 250 yards in 2 quarters. I see where you are coming from being a Beardan fan but if they switched teams given the passing game Beardan had and the opponents they played I'train would have had 3000 rushing yards easy. Blackman played many GOOD teams that keyed on him bc Blackman had a less than average passing QB and young and small receivers. There o-line was very small the only games I got to see were the Smyrna games and they got dominated in the trenches I heard the same happened when we played Oakland. I don't see this as Blackman fans whining I have personally talked to many other Rutherford county fans that watched him and they all agree with me on this one.

I agree with you in that class and his commitment to UT played a factor, but my point is should it have? They are treated no different on the field why should they be treated different of the field. I'train did what he did a year younger and hasn't decided were to go to college, should he be punished for that? The o-line did a good job but they weren't the greatest he made them look better it didn't take much for him to see something and exploit it.

I would first like to say that Devrin Young is an extremely fine athlete that I give the best of wishes to him and his time at UT. Know as for being the best running back in Tennsessee he is not! Before you write me off, I am not ignorant, I have watched film over and over of both running backs I'tavious Mathers and Devrin Young. Here are something’s to consider when giving this award. First STATS but I do realize this is not the only thing you look at, along with those stats you need to look at who you put those numbers up against!!!!! Strength of schedule, then you go on to CHARACTER, then you look at the teams they played on. Beardan ended the season playing only 1 top ten ranked team. Blackman played 4. Now you say so what. Well Blackman's strength of schedule was much higher than Beardan any way you look at it so you should go into the voting process saying hey this kid ran against tougher defenses and better team’s right? Then you go on to look at stats. Devrin Young rushed for 1,769 yards on 164 carries with 21 rushing touchdowns Impressive! I'tavious rushed for 2,070 yards on 187 carries with 26 total touchdowns a STATE BEST against BETTER competition I think we are starting to get the picture but were not there yet. They Both ended with over 3000 all purpose yards WOW! I'train was the soul of Blackman's offense they did not have a passing game teams came in knowing it was all him and he still got the job done. Then comes in the CHARACTER issue and you cant tell me he didn't win bc of of his attitude or character or work ethic. I have NEVER seen this kid taunt his opponents he hands the ball to the ref and runs to the sideline like nothing happened when he scores. I believe Everyone should have to watch film before they vote. I'tavious simply has a more natural, graceful stride. I am not saying you have to have a graceful stride to be effective I am simply saying when you watch film you can tell who is better. I'tavious Mathers DESERVED this award and was simply robbed. Was it bc he was a jr? Do more voters live in east TN? Maybe they should call it the sign with UT and get the award, award (kyberson) lol jk, but seriously when you are giving an award that is so meaningful it should be done without politics or controversies. Like I said before good luck to both in the future they are BOTH bright!!!!

I disagree Devrin Young does not have the size. I have watched both there videos check them out.

Mathers has 1210 yds on 81 touches 14.9 ypc with 15 tds thru 5 games this season. This is a link to his tapes thru the first 5 games this season. He gets better as the season goes on too he is still improving.

Too confident would be y, but thats not neccessarily a bad thing. You want a team that expects to win every game. heckuva season by the Blaze. Ya i think you have to have some humbleness or respect for the other teams talent and we didn't but good luck next week

I thought this might happen i talked to a lot of the players at school today and they all seemed too confident they always come into games confident b/c they are good but you can't do that against Riverdale. Too y

Blackman wins if they don't play conservative. They need to pass the ball to open the run game,if we don't pass Riverdale will stack the box. I also think Blackman needs to start #4 I'ctavious Mathers he is our best back, i don't know the reason why he didn't play last week, he is a play maker, things happen when he gets the ball, in my eyes he earned the starting job after the brentwood game.

I'ctavious Mathers is definitely the best sophomore in 7-AAA, Jess Patton is the best junior, but overall i would have to say Marc Gooch, Tim Micado, or Martin Dietrich?
