Alot of kids in the town of Humboldt already go to South Gibson or private schools. That's why a town of almost 8k people has a school with the same enrollment as WC (our two main towns Atwood and Trezevant have like 1100 and 900)

You just made my point, if you can afford to not go to Humboldt City Schools you don't go there. Like BPM just posted a few posts earlier Humboldt has a lot bigger issues than hiring a football coach. I was also there last year and it was crazy to say the least. I did not allow my two younger sons (7 and 2 at the time) to even go because of the problems they have had in the past with security at athletic events. All you have to do is check out Windy City Road heading out of Humboldt and into Jackson every school day to see how many families are choosing to send their kids to private schools in Jackson. It is an absolute traffic jam between 7:30-8:00 and 2:45-3:15.

Sounds to me that the state should close the school and bus the kids to South Gibson County.

Not to sound bad or anything, but the people that have bought 250k to 500k houses in Medina will not have their kids go to school with the students at Humboldt. They will continue to do everything in their power to make sure that the Humboldt kids do not go to South Gibson. I know it is not a popular thing to say, but that is the reality. Take it as you want, but that is the facts.

Wow. That is pretty stinking cool. I have always respected CSJ, but to listen to him during this made me respect him even more. I know this came out a few years ago, but how the heck am I just now seeing it?

It is an incredible watch if you love high school football in West Tennessee. Gregg Hammond did an outstanding job and the Trenton community is so blessed to have a person like Coach Jacobs leading our youth. It is definitely worth the 2 hours to watch this.

Hey no arguments here. We grew up together and still chit chat every now and then. A good guy and good coach but won’t give me nothing on the game plan haha

I have already given you the game plan.

The coaching staff at Peabody are teaching our guys some history of football. You should check out the history of our program from the documentary that was done a few years ago. It is awesome!!

Ok what offense r ya going to run. Mathis won’t spill the beans

I think it will be the spread, veer, or maybe the old Emory and Henry offense. Maybe Coach Jacobs will change every series. As a poster said earlier, Peabody is playing on borrowed time so they should have some fun and run every type of offense in the history of football.

Running clock maybe but not to start the 3rd quarter. You guys aren’t experienced in this kind of thing. It will be a better game even if only for 2-3 quarters. Peabody’s coaches will have broke down tape of every riverside game. The game plan will be better

If your Riverside, what do you prepare for? The wing-T or the spread. We had some success with the spread the first game early. We turned it over a ton. At least the Peabody coaches know what Riversides offense will be like. The same can not be said of Riverside. As long as the coaches have been coaching Peabody they have ALWAYS run the spread, until last Friday. The defensive coaches at Riverside are going to have a LONG week preparing.

So has Peabody had any big personal changes like at qb or running back

Changed QB a few weeks after we played you guys the first time. Just watch the last game to find out about the offense they ran. I figure they will be back to the spread considering the coaches have ran the spread every game they have coached except for one.

Looking more like the Riverside/Loretto winner next Friday will be facing Huntington. Who do you guys have pulling the W between Loretto and Riverside? Loretto is having a banner year and is undefeated and most likely will remain that way after tomorrow. However, Riverside does have two losses but to, I think, very good teams.

Will Riverside be extra hungry to face Huntington in R3? Now, is Loretto for real and back?

Please let the Loretto team look past Peabody. Loretto has all the pressure on them, undefeated season. Best team they have had in awhile. This year’s Peabody team is the worst team they have had in at least 15 years. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a tight game in the 4th quarter though . How will the Loretto players react? They are supposed to destroy Peabody, I am sure everyone they have talked to have reiterated that all week. Every year there is a major upset early in the playoffs because the players are in shock that their opponent just didn’t lay down when they showed up. Since Loretto last won a playoff game, our head coach has gone 31-6 (4 state titles) just in playoff games that he was either the D-coordinator or head coach. Please I beg you to overlook the Golden Tide and their coaching staff. They are not what they have been, but I guarantee you that when we had the second longest winning streak in the entire nation we never disrespected an opponent and overlooked them especially during the playoffs. For anyone to post something about a matchup that is in the future during the playoffs shows that they haven’t won much and usually that comes to bite them in the rear end. Karma comes tough this time of year.

I’m not 100% but there are no more than 10 I think. Meadows is a senior kicker is a senior and the running back smith is a senior

You are correct. Senior night was real quick last week. Only 6 seniors, 1 has been hurt all year and didn't play a down all year. That is why we are struggling so bad this year. We had 24 seniors last year. Only Meadows and the kicker saw meaningful playing time last year. Even the backups from last year graduated. We have improved a lot this year, and the future will be better. For a small school to be in the state championship mix every year for 10 years is incredible. I am glad I had a front row seat to it all.

It’s GAMEDAY. This is normally the time when I would post something about the Dawgs putting a cobra Kai style beat down and n their opponent or sweeping the leg. But this thread (and whole season for that matter) just hasn’t seemed right or been the same without my #1 partner in crime @PeabodyPride  I hope this game is played in a way by both sides tonight that would make him proud. Enjoy it from your seat in Heaven tonight bro.

TCA made a QB change years ago and it flipped their season around. Nobody could stop them. Unless the young man is a Goldsmith caliber then all you have is wishful thinking my friend.

Our Jr high team could score 70 on Camden. That defense is WEAK!!

The good thing for Peabody is they play Camden and JCM back to back with their bye week included. It will definitely help build their confidence but Milan and Huntingdon will put them back in check.

I will definitely eat my crow if I’m wrong I just don’t see it happening. Good luck to Peabody. I hope they prove me wrong.

All I am saying, in a one game situation Coach Jacobs and Coach Vowell can come up with something defensively to keep them in the ballgame and having an offense that does not turn the ball over can make things really interesting. I have seen many times a region champion playing at home in the first round and enter the fourth quarter in a tight game when they have heard all week how they should destroy the 4 seed and next thing you know their season ends.

Peabody will not beat the first seed out of R5.

With Peabody changing QB1 this week, you never know. They still have Coach Jacobs and the mad scientist Coach Tab. I wouldn't put nothing past the Golden Tide. Everyone assumes they will be the 4 seed, last time I checked Milan and Huntingdon still have to play and beat Peabody. The only loss they have in region is against Riverside. I know it will be a tall task to even keep it close against those teams, but I have been saying all year the only thing this team needs is some positives going there way and who knows the change at QB1 might just be it.

He would be very disappointed but he would understand our current situation. I miss him dearly.  We sit together for many years at every game.  He took so much pride in our football program.  With that said, his memory will last forever.  We were witnesses to some of the greatest moments in Peabody football history.  We will be back!

I do agree, we will be back very soon. I honestly feel that the next four games are winnable games for us. If we start gaining some confidence watch out!

I talked to their dad just a few weeks ago. One is in Martin, the other is in KTown. Both of kids were absolute ballers. Do not really know them personally, I just know what I saw on the field.

    UTMartin Football Roster 2023.

Not bashing him because he is a great kid, but when you win an award like Mr. Football you don't do it alone. When you don't thank your teammates that created the holes for you to gain that award I personally think it says a lot about your character. Those guys are the guys that busted their tales and the cream rises to the top. Those are the guys that have continued to work hard and are working their butts off in college when they have faced adversity. At the college level everybody is good, what can you do to separate yourself from the other guy that also is a stud athlete.

  15. 33 minutes ago, ManOfMillions said:

YES! Peabody has had a run of studs roll in the door over the past several years. Both of the Ganoway boys are playing D1 ball right now.

I don't know about if both Ganaways are still playing D1. I know one of them is at UT, but you might want to check about Mr. Football. Everybody is naming the skill guys which I get, but I don't think any of them have made there respective college football teams travel squad yet. I believe Dickson has with Army, but everyone else has not. Two of the lineman from last year are having great camps and I believe both of them are making there travel squads from day one. If you know anything about college football you haven't really arrived on the team unless you make the travel squad. All you are is a practice body until you make the travel squad. The average fan didn't know how good Peabody had it with the boys up front the last few years, and how well prepared Coach Driggers had those guys day in and day out.

I know Milan under Morris had back to back titles. Union City won 3 or 4 more spread out. Gibson County, Mckenzie and Westview girls have had back to back titles in basketball. I agree Peabody going 3 in a row is the best West TN has ever seen in a sport. Take a mistake or two away against Mckenzie in the semis and could have very likely been 4 in a row. Will be interesting what happens in the future. The Adamsville game will be a big game.

I agree, we had a minus 4 turnover margin against McKenzie that seminal. I know my son wishes they had not turned the ball over so much that game. Not taking anything away from McKenzie that night but that is definitely a woulda, coulda, shoulda situation that just didn’t go our way that night. But, you could also say that about the Fairley game a few years ago too. It worked both ways for us.

  17. People need to realize what we have witnessed as Peabody fans the last 9 years has not EVER happened in West Tennessee before. I am not saying that it is completely over, but this is not the norm to win 4 state titles and be right in the mix for a state title every year (unless you are Alcoa). I for one have enjoyed the ride and am not giving up on this group as I said earlier nothing has gone right for them this year. I see these kids competing their tails off, but they are in positions that they have not ever been in. The mistakes that are being made can be fixed. When you have 8 turnovers in 2 games on your opponent’s side of the field you are not going to win any game. We have had some good drives, but then a big penalty happens or we have turned the ball over. All we have to do is get something positive happen and I feel it will be a domino effect and things will turn around. I don’t think it will happen this week but next week against Adamsville is when I feel things will begin to change.

I watched Peabody play JCS last night. Peabody has talent as always. You can tell they are young. They shot themselves in the foot a lot with turnovers and penalties. When they mature as a team they will be tough and able to play with anyone in 2A. It just won’t happen next week.

I agree 100%. This Tide team has not had many positive things go their way so far this season. Only having 8 seniors and only a few that are true contributors definitely hurts. Like you stated, the talent is there, but it is so young and raw. I feel that once something positive happens to this team they will take off. I honestly feel that they are not that far away. This game will be tough as we all know Riverside is not only talented but also experienced. Every time Peabody plays these young guys are gaining so much experience. We may be down this year from the standard we have grown accustomed to, but I guarantee you our program will be back near the top very soon.

Southwestern, southwestern, the school by the zoo, where the boy are boys and…

That does not sound right with the name change :)

My brother played for Sewanne in the early eighties.  They were pretty good for the pond they played in under Coach Moore.

I am growing to love some small college football. I know it is not big time college sports, but there are some serious athletes on those fields every Saturday. Some of the atmospheres are pretty cool, too. I know it doesn't beat going to an SEC stadium but you can hear every hit and are just as close to the action as you would be on Friday nights.

I was told peabody beat convington in a scrimmage but I don’t have details. Covington could have been missing players. May have been in the spring

I don’t know where you got that information, but Peabody definitely did not beat Covington in the spring scrimmage. Peabody is getting better, but you do not lose what we lost and just bounce back and continue to be a state contender. Do I think we will be competitive this year, I sure do especially by the end of the season. Every week that our guys play they are gaining much needed experience. Again only 3 players have ever seen the field during meaningful minutes for us. Even the backups last year graduated for the most part.

  21. 44 minutes ago, BIGPURPLEMACHINE said:

I was told that thru the first 4 series for each team it was 21-0 Crockett and Peabody was without a first down. Very reliable source. However Crockett is loaded with returners this year and Peabody replaces a ton.

Most people in Trenton knew this was coming. It was evident that for most of the Trenton players it was the first time that they have ever played in a high school atmosphere. A lot of nerves were shown on Friday night that I do not foresee happening again. Did Crockett whoop us, definitely. But, there were positives on Friday night. Our guys need to understand that prior teams earned what they accomplished through the work they put in. This group will do the same. They will get to work as I am sure the coaching staff has this weekend. Trenton will be a different team by the end of the season.

Not that, more specifically on an ejection..

You can see it all on NFHS Network. Top half of the inning Peabody’s 3 hole hitter gets rung up on a pitch that almost hit him (not crowding the plate like other hitters) and bottom half of the inning you decide where the 3-2 pitch is that scores the first run of the game is. With these games being broadcast and the camera literally right behind home plate you can see out and in pretty clear.
