  1. Lexington has a history of underacheiving...why should next season be different?

Agreed. I think they will ha a good team that is capable of going several rounds into the playoffs. Two years ago they were a semi-final team. However, I don't think they can challenge the teams out of the east this year or Giles Co.

  2. BPM. I agree. I don't think you can rank CPA higher than CAK, Alcoa or Milan at this point. (except Mitchell the QB went down not Wharton -- Wharton did return a 85-90 yard fumble recovery in the first half for a TD in the Milan game). CPA defense did a pretty good job and most of the defense is returning this year.

I enjoyed your posts during the playoffs last year and would love to host you guys this year. <_<

Your right, I was completely mistaken about Wharton as someone pointed this out to me in another thread. That was the first time that I had seen CPA play and it was difficult to keep up with Wharton as he was used in so many different positions and situations. I was very impressed with CPA as a whole. I know losing Wharton will hurt, but you guys still have a very good team.

Thank you for the comments on my prior posts. I would personally be nervous about meeting up with you guys after the nail biter we had last year. But if we do it will probably be because we are in the semi's of the playoffs again and that wouldn't be too bad. Best of luck to you guys this year. If we do meet up again this year, give me a shout-out the week of the game. :thumb:

  3. Who can take this job? It will have to be a young coach with little or no head coaching experience because everyone is already committed to their programs. Practice starts in less than two weeks with 7-on-7 work starting across the state. Also, where in the world will they put together a staff this late in the year? A few rejects who can't find a job somewhere? Maybe some old coach who is down on his luck? It doesn't look good for the Tigers but maybe the right person is out there?

I just thought of a name of a head coach looking for a job. He was the head coach at Ripley until March of this year. He might be just what you need.

I believe the coach that you are speaking of his last name is Pellegrino. Could be wrong. But seeing my favorite team compete against his Ripley teams the last couple of years in district play, I will say this. Very unorthodow. His teams line up in very unusual formations on offense every play. They throw the ball almost every down. It was all smoke and mirrors.

  4. As a CPA parent, I would like this to be true, but I don't think you can put CPA tied with CAK and ahead of Alcoa and Milan. Also, Pearl-Cohn is going to be loaded this year and they proved that they can handle teams like Smith County in the past few years. I would put PC up to at least 4 (maybe a tie with CPA).

    Just my two cents.

    +1 :thumb:

  5. Until they learn to defend the pass, which they've been completely unable to do in recent years, it won't really matter. It's become the elephant in the room no one will talk about with them. Just my two cents.

I don't know alot about their ability to defend the pass but I imagine you are probably right. I remember two years ago the Milan/Goodpasture match-up in the semi's at Goodpasture. Milan was trailing 28-6 at the half. They went to the shotgun with 4 wide-outs every play after the half. This is something Milan never does, but Goodpasture couldn't defend it. We still ended up losing that game 35-27, but their inability to defend the pass almost cost them. However, I am not criticizing anyone, just making an observation. Lord knows Milan couldn't do anything against CAK's passing attack last year so we have lots of room to improve ourselves.

BPM..Its not a West Tn paper ..read like a soccer match to me..and 'safety' on left top ..possibbile its not a newspaper from anywhere in the USA..

Its probably CMM4CPA's hometown paper. That would explain alot. :roflol:

  7. Well where to start? I only commented one area of your post for a reason, but have opinions on more than that. First of all, I know a fair number of CPA parents and kids. Some I think are wonderful, but there's a fair number of pompous jerks like yourself. (By answering my first post, you've given me a good idea who you are.)

First of all, I like what CPA's coaches have done with their team. It's obvious Ellson and Martin have done well putting the program on a good footing. I was very impressed with their O-line and D-line, and believe they have the raw materials (kids), and coaching to be very good. I agree their QB is a proven, and talented kid also. I reserve judgement on receivers and running backs, as I've not seen these players yet, and you did not mention names. I'll also reserve judgement on the defense for now, but a know a few kids who are good players who'll be "in the mix". I believe the linebackers mentioned are good players, but I'll stand by my earlier statements on size and potential at the "next level".

As for your smite about "CouchT", and the sedentary nature and lack of athletic experience/knowledge of most posters, I have nothing to prove to you. I feel quite secure in my past athletic endeavors, and each of my "brood" wear state championship rings, and have done well competing also. I also complete understand the various the levels of athletic competition available in college. and think you're probably the one who lacks expereince and success on the field.

P.S. I also agree with BIGPURPLEMACHINE. Have a nice day.

    Your the man sportsnutdad!!

  8. CoachT should really be called CouchT to better represent the knowledge base of 99% of those chiming in on here. Viewing football from the couch is about as close as most have ever gotten to actually playing or coaches the game.

Lets clear up the CPA vs Milan story first. Hard to believe someone was at the game and came away with "CPA could not do anything after Vic got hurt." Vic, (great player) never got hurt a second in the Milan gamel.

It was their Junior QB that went down on the first play of the second half with what turned out to be 3 broken bones in his foot. After two ineffective shots to numb the pain, he came back in but could not run on it the foot. He had run for 62 yards in the first half.

Here is the story from a West TN newspaper to help clear up your memory of the game.

Click this line to read the newspaper story on the game. http://safety-first.com/bahrain/safety-ends-cpas-season/

As for this next season for CPA:

    Line:

CPA returns a GREAT line. All five started last year. The three seniors are 2 VERY strong guards and a tackle that has offers from Navy and Presbyterian already and several more coming within weeks. Air Force has him on campus right now and waiting his arrival are Furman, Wofford and Wake Forrest over the next two weeks. The 2 juniors on the line are a 6-5 tackle who was just offered by Cincinnati and a three year starting center who will also play at the next level. Backing up those staring linemen will be a 6-5 freshmen and a 6-6 sophomore.

    Receivers:

Vic has been replaced by a taller burner that has amazing hands and can dunk a basketball any way you want it. They return a great group of sophomore and junior receivers that are not as tall as last season but can fly and will go get the football.

    Backs:

Not sure where to start on backs. Two backs return with Vic's speed. A junior and a senior. One beat Vic flat out in the 100 this track season. And forgive me for comparing these guys to Vic. I hated to see Vic go but so many on CouchT are talking about Vic like he was the whole CPA team. This group of 2013 seniors were kicking butt and taking names before we knew what a Vic was. These seniors went 9-1 playing all of the top D2 schools in 8th grade. They beat Ensworth 19-0 as an example. A very strong senior full back will lead block for 3 top caliber running backs. So the backfield will be in good shape.

    QB:

The starting QB is 6-3 and 25lbs heavier than last season and has impressed colleges so much he currently has three D1 offers and more on the way.

    Defense:

At least I see where some of you had this part right. CPA returns a mean D with hitters all over the place. The linebackers, all seniors, are the best three linebackers to ever play together at CPA. A great sophomore linebacker will get lots of minutes also. This group will hit you getting off the bus. One has an college football offer now and the other two will before the season ends. All three are some of our top students, which means they are smart enough to know where to be and mean enough to arrive with angry attitude. I could go on about this D but they proved what they have last season over and over again and they are back. The only difference is, due to CPA's weight program, they are all BIGGER, FASTER, and STRONGER.

This will be a fun season for the purple and gold. Lots of great teams to play to get to Cookeville but it will be a fun ride for the Lion faithful.

First, let me start this post by saying that I was mistaken obviously about Wharton getting hurt during last year's playoff game with Milan. I knew it was the quarterback and assumed it was Wharton. My mistake. However, what I stated about the CPA offense not being able to move the ball after the quarterback went out was correct. CPA moved the ball well in the first half, but struggled to move the ball in the second half. However, Milan struggled to move the ball as well.

Second let me say that I find you comments rude and insult regarding how you started you post. I began my last post by giving CPA props. Then you came on bashing me. I will not bash you, rather I will give you the respect that I or any other adult would want so I will say nothing else about your insulting comments.

As for the "Couch T" part... I have a gold ring from my time on the Milan football team in the late 90's, I played college ball at Lambuth University and am currently a middle school football coach. Sorry that I made the mistake about the names, but by no means am I a "couch" football fan.

Finally, your article was correct in alot of its details. However, I didn't see anywhere that it was a "West" TN newspaper, as you call it. I have lived in West TN for over 30 years and have never heard of it. Also, I think anyone that reads this article will give it the credibility it deserves, which isn't much.

I will end this post by saying again, that I wish CPA well in the coming season. They will be a talented team with a lot of potential. I hope that you learn to treat people with the same respect you would want for yourself and cut back on the insults. It is a sad reflection of your character.

  9. If you're going to take the time to criticize someone about their spelling, you could at least proofread your own post. :thumb:

I appreciate the advice "Cash Money Homey". "Your" was spelled correctly, just used in the wrong way. I should have used "you're". I would much rather miss use the tense of a word than misspell the name of the team I am trying to start a thread about. However, not that it really matters. I don't think this guy was really serious when he started this thread as most people can tell. Again, I sincerely appreciate the advice, homey. :thumb:

  10. 1. (tie) CPA/ CAK

    2. Alcoa

    3. Milan

    4. Smith Cty

    5. Fairview

    6. Elizabethton

    7. Pearl Cohn

    8. Cheat. Cty

    9. A-E

I wish CPA well, but I don't think they are better than Alcoa or Milan. It was a very close game last year in the playoffs with Milan, but when Wharton got injured, they couldn't do anything. Without him I think they have a hard time matching up with CAK, Alcoa, Milan and maybe even Fairview if Wharton lands there.

  11. Many people around middle Tennessee should know that Greenbrier hasn't been anything special since the 2004 season with Herndon and Co. But what many may not know is that this years upcoming team is full of juniors who have been talked up since they were 7 years old. They have an astounding amount of talent and athleticism, along with intelligence about the game. They are huge in size compared to the past. They have multiple players over 6'2" and 250 lbs, Muscle not fat. With this talented bunch who are not young anymore, what should we all expect. Late Post-season push, or another horrendous season?

Is Greenbrier 3A or 4A for the playoffs?

  12. Great year last year, excited to see what they do this year. Any thoughts on how the Cougars will do this year not only in the district but for state as well?

Goodpasture is a talented team with a rich tradition. They will be successful next year. However, I think there are a few teams that just have more talent than them that will prevent them from making it all the way to Cookeville such as Fairview, CPA, Pearl-Cohn and Milan. These teams will be loaded with talent and experience next year and would be major bumps in the road. However, I think they are probably a second or third round caliber team and I would definitely have them in my top 10!!

  13. Nice top 5....only thing is I would have Cpa at 5 maybe even 6. Great team but vic did a lot of there dirty work and when things wasn't going right he got it done. So ill have to see how there going to replace the transmission of the offence. Cak and alcoa would be a good match up but ill take CAK right now and you really could throw Smith County Into the Top 5 t talk.

I saw CPA play my Milan Bulldawgs last year in the Semi's, and I was very impressed with CPA. I will agree that Wharton was the grease that made the wheel turn. He was injured in the first half of that game and the offense for CPA was never quite the same. They could not move the ball in the second half after giving us all we wanted in the first half. However, I was very impressed with the rest of the team as well. They were very well coached and executed great. I think without him they will still be a threat to make a deep playoff run, but you may be right and may have to be moved down a slot or two.

As for Smith Co, no doubt they are a talented, tradition-rich team. However, they will have to have more play-off success in my opinion to gain top 5 status. I would definitely put them in my top 10.

  14. oh yeah then we'll hear about all those poor little schools who have to play bigger schools because there are just 3 divisions...lets just hand out a participation trophy and call it a day

I agree. There comes a point where you just have to stop making excuses, line up and hit the team in front of you, public or private.

  15. AFTER SEEING AND HEARING ABOUT EVERYBODYS SPRING PRACTICE WOULD ANYBODY LIKE TO MOVE THERE TOP 10 AROUND??

My top 5 would have to be...

    1. CAK

    2. Alcoa

    3. Milan

    4. CPA

    5. Fairview

I believe that 4 and 5 could change depending on where Vic Wharton ends up. I don't think those two teams are that far apart. If he goes to Fairview, they may be even up to #3 caliber. However, I don't see anyone beating CAK or Alcoa.

  16. Top 3 Over-rated teams last season

    1. Obion County

    2. Obion County

    3. Lexington

    :thumb:

Lexington always ok til they play somebody

    OC well you know

Traditionally best team in Lex district has been Southside and recently Liberty

OC well you know, usually 0-10, and appeared better last yr but didn't play anybody & typically strong teams in district were non existent & not very good.

There were strong teams in 13AA last year. I think Covington and Milan more than proved it by there performance on the field. We can argue all day long about our opinions, but the results they put up can't be argued. At least we agree Obion was not. No defense.

  17. Congratulations to B.Kendrick & J.Smith on their offers from and commitments to the University of Tennessee! It will be exciting for us to watch them over the next few years. I believe both of these young me have what it takes to be successful in the SEC and are worthy additions to the UT squad. Like everyone else they will have to continue to work hard and improve but I believe they will be prepared for the challenge. Congratulations to the coaches and their teammates as well for helping develop them to the point of success that allowed them to be recruited and given scholarships to their home town school. What a dream come true for these guys and their families! This is also a happy day for CAK football, since these two guys are the first CAK football players to commit to play in the SEC. Hopefully there will be more in the future. :thumb:

Cogratulations from Milan :D I saw this past December just how talented these two men are. :thumb:
