  1. I didn't realize F-R Brawl was this weekend. Time is flying. Parkland is in school Saturday. Yes, snow/ice killing us. Same rules, no school-no sports. On top of that schools that are back in many are making up their missed day(s) on Saturday. Tearing up our tournies this weekend.
  2. Out-of-stater question. Which team are called the Trojans?
  3. Should be a great tourney. Last year Parkland was runner up in this tourney and are about the same this year, a little younger but talented. JM Robinson is a solid team. Should have some contenders for a gold. If their fans travel with them it should be fun. They are good people who love their rasslin'.
  4. 140: Stuart Doster ( won by technical fall over Josh Elliott, 5:05 145: Turbo Smith (SD) pinned Jake Standefer, 4:47 152: Matthew Cate ( won by technical fall over Payton Pelfrey, 4:00 To an outsider looking in it looks like the 140-145-152 was the difference. Both of the "predictors" gave the nod to Baylor by fall over Hunt. Doster obviously very tough. Both thought Standefer( would lose by fall to Elliot(SD). Both thought it would be a great and close match btwn Cate/Smith, with Cate getting the edge, but could possibly go the other way. My question would be why not let Hunt stay in at 140, let Elliot stay at 145, and Smith stay at 152. A more likely out come would have been Baylor Pin 140, SD pin 145, Baylor dec 152 for a score of 9-6 Baylor, Only improving the score by 1 point from the way it actually played out. However IF Smith could have pulled out a win which sounds like a possiblity you now have a 9-6 SD advantage in those 3 weights and that changes the winner of the dual. Yeah, yeah, I get the whole "Monday morning quterback" thing and you never know how the rest of the match turns out but I'm just sayin'

  6. You want bad officiating? Try this call out. State championship match. Two GREAT wrestlers, 30 seconds to go in the match 1-0 score, no stalling all out war. Whistle blows. Referee gives the kid that was down a point. Why? The other kid's singlet slide up his leg and exposed a bit of his undershorts! That kid lost in OT....he was a senior. Thanks ref, nice call. BTW that was the only such call of that nature all year anyone could remember. Following the letter of the rules or just wanting to be the focus of attention?
  7. 284-6 Colton Palmer Riverside 2003-07 256-18 Luis Ramos Parkland 2005-09 242-6 Justin Sparrow East Gaston 2003-07 241-6 Vincent Ramirez Eastern Wayne/Riverside 2000-04 234-1 Chris Bullins McMichael 2003-07 North Carolina recently made rule changes to throttle down the number of matches wrestlers have an opportunity to wrestle now, even so, the top wrestlers will get mid 60 matches a year now. Most states are getting about 50+ these days. A lot of teams schedule one dual meet during the week and a dual tournament with formats allowing 5 matches on Saturday. Season (regular) started 11/16 runs through 2/5 and conference tourney's on 2/6. Then dual team playoffs (5 rounds for the winner - 2 Tues, 2 Thurs, championship on Saturday), 4 regionals (16 man brackets) and finally states, again 16 man brackets. 50 regular season, 14 post season = 64 matches possible now. I may be a bit off in what I understand as the way it is set up now, but this is close.
  8. I heard Parkland won 160 and 171, 2nd at 119, 125, 130, 135, 140 and 215.
  9. Enka should be in the hunt for the 3A division. There are about 5 teams in the 3A that could win it all and Enka is definitely one of'em. They won a pretty tough tourney today by a couple of points.
  10. Word in NC is Christian Bros won the tourney. I didn't get any details.
  11. Come on, somebody's gotta know what's going on! Is it over? Who won/leading?
  12. Teams that go deep in state duals and individual states will have mid 60's in number. I THINK the rules recently changed so the max wrestled isn;t as high as it once was a few years back. One kid had over 280 career wins. (Colton Palmer, Riverside) Most Parland kids have 36 or so matches already and they have ALL set out some matches.
  13. 160 is not particularly stacked but there are a couple of kids it would be too close to call without them wrestling. A kid from Cary is a junior all american (Va, Beach Nationals), defending state 4A champion and has pinned 26 of 28 matches wrestled, plus a tech fall and a major. So he is tough. Ali is the defending 3A state champ and Parkland has been moved up to 4A as well this year, so these guys will probably meet in the finals. Another kid from a 3A team that Ali will not meet this season is also really good. Any word how the tourney is going?
  14. Are there any brackets released anywhere?
  15. I think that is a great way to run a tournament Artus Climber, it gives the lesser wrestlers an opportunity to get more mat time. As so often is the case the kids who need the most mat time get the least. It also affords the tournament winner more than 3 matches as is also often the case. Win-Win. I assume the tourney will be seeded by records and/or state placing? I'm looking forward to see how things shake out tomorrow. I KNOW CBHS is for real. I also know another 4 or 5 teams look strong too. I'm not a Parkland honk, but they are tough as well. Most of their kids have wrestled and beat some tough kids. A couple of kids have not beat "name" wrestlers, so in my eyes are still a question mark. I do not know if any of their kids are the best in the state in their weight class but they have a very solid line up top to bottom. Their current win streak is now 165 consecutive matches and they wrestle tonight as well (shouldn't be close...at all). If anyone is attending tomorrow with a mobile device, how about some updates?
