    11-AA

Does anybody know how Waverly did against Giles this past Saturday? That's maybe a future Region Tournament matchup...
  2. Hahaha...don't get me wrong! I'm not saying that they are not good teams or are not loaded, I'm just saying they are not as loaded as in years past. I meant no disrespect in any way...it will take a monumental effort for a team from 11aa to beat one of the top teams in 12aa for sure. I'm just saying that there's a chance this year, where in previous years there was no chance at all. As far as a team going to state, I can't remember one at all from this district in recent memory. When it was 10aa and Sycamore was still in the district, they went to sub-state a few years in a row, but never made it to state. Cheatham did it when they were AAA back in the 80's. Harpeth made the sub-state a couple of years ago and were actually a few free throws from making it. Other than that, I don't really know.
  3. I haven't had a lot to say about 11aa in a while, but this year is shaping up to be a good, competitive season. You potentially have 4 teams that have a shot at winning the district title. Harpeth, Camden, Cheatham, and Waverly all have a chance to be tops in the district this year. And with the other district being weaker than they have in a long time, 11aa could very likely have several teams competing for the region title as well. Good luck to all the teams, I'm looking forward to the coming weeks.
  4. I don't understand why the 4 corners was even brought up in the first place...Montgomery Central went to that maybe 3 to 4 minutes out of the ENTIRE game. Which, if I remember correctly is 32 minutes. It's not like Jimmy Young looked down at Waverly and knew he absolutely couldn't win and held the ball from the opening minute. Teams all the time, EVEN with a shot clock, use the clock to their advantage with a lead late in games. They eliminate the amount of possessions in the game to not give the other team a chance to come back. Some of the greatest coaches in the history of college basketball have used or still use this tactic. Ever heard of Mike Krzyzewski? Dean Smith? Duke still to this day pulls the ball out with 6 to 8 minutes to go with a lead, using the entire shot clock before getting a good shot, eliminating the other team's possessions and running clock. This has been part of the game since the invention of the game of basketball. Next, you'll want to take out running the ball at the end of football game, because you want to give the other team a shot to comeback and win. I personally think the only reason you brought it up was because your team was down and you wanted to give them a chance. I'm sure if Waverly had done this you would have had no problem with it and commended Coach Rawlings on the smart game plan. And speaking of that...I'm sure Coach Rawlings has used this tactic before and at the end of games and didn't just go down the court throwing up quick shots and letting the other team back in it. It's just common sense.
  5. Creekwood is hands down the best team in the district this year. I will be really surprised if anyone can knock them off in district play. My only criticism of them is that they have trouble scoring sometimes, especially against a zone. But they are so good defensively with their 2 posts on the back side that they don't have to score much to win. The only thing I can see that could hurt them is how easily they breeze through the district. Nobody is really challenging them and they don't have to play a good game to get most of their wins. It'll be interesting to see them coming down the stretch on into tournament time with how well they play.
  6. Connman...we get it...you don't like the coaches at Cheatham. You probably have a son, grandson, or some sort of sibling on the team and don't think they're getting their fair share of playing time. Did you not say that the game was over? If they were down 30 or so then why not play the younger guys that don't get to play regularly at the end of the game? Obviously the guys in the eight man rotation you speak of are not doing their job if they were down that much...so why keep playing them? Throw some other guys in there and see what they can do. I assume the "best shooter" that got taken out of the game was the Smart kid, who if I'm not mistaken is a senior, so why leave him in? To help make the score not so bad? I have nothing against you, but everybody on here I'm sure is sick of hearing you questioning the coaches...if you have a problem then why don't you go to school, get your teacher's license, be a coach, spend countless hours in the gym trying to help kids get better at the game you love while getting payed peanuts to the dollar, and coach them yourself.
  7. Enough about all of that... What other make up games are there in the district this week? I know Harpeth vs. Cheatham has been re-scheduled for tomorrow. Any other games been re-scheduled yet?
  8. Welcome yenom, Cheatham played creekwood well in the first quarter, about a 4 point difference. I think cw underestimated cheatham a little at the start. Cheatham looked really good untill cw coaches adjusted after the first and made things a little harder. The big difference came after halftime. CW Coaches adjusted even more and Cheatham Coaches DID NOT. CW cameout and dominated cheatham for the entire half. Cheatham has some young talent that just needs some time to get better and the coaches need some time to figure out how to compete with some really good teams. It seems that we are being out coached as much or more than we are being out played. After all the coaches are a pretty young group also. Cheatham will be a team to fear in the near future. I was actually at this game, and from I saw, the Creekwood coaches did change it up and go to a full court press and a zone press at some times. It looked like the Cheatham kids couldn't handle the pressure very well against Creedwood's better athletes and size. They started turning the ball over a lot and couldn't hit their shots when they actually got them. It seems like Cheatham's whole team is young kids though. They look tiny. But a couple of them can play. I know the Cheatham coaches somewhat and they seem pretty basketball savvy. I'm sure they had something in place to beat the press, but against a man press the player's have to handle the pressure and get the ball up the floor themselves. Whether that's to do with not being coached in practice how to combat the pressure or not, I don't know. And that is the coaches job to have them ready for that possibility. But I'm not so sure they can simulate the length and size of Creekwood in practice, ha ha, as would any team have a problem doing. And the Cheatham coaches didn't go out there and dribble and pass the ball, the players did. And the Cheatham players seemed smaller and less athletic, so they made more mistakes. I'll never put the blame on the players for a loss, because I've always believed and heard that it's always on the coach. But there's something to be said for a player's talent level and what grade they're in. But it is the coach's responsibility to have them ready to play, and I'll never change that stance. The Cheatham players did come out with a lot of intensity and hustle to start the game, and played hard throughout. But Creekwood's size and ability eventually overtook the Cubs. The big kid Cheatham just got back looked pretty good early on. He seemed to get tired quickly though and missed some lay ups he should have made later in the game. I assume he's back off injury and just out of shape. Look's like a definite football player though, ha ha, he can surely take up some space. Creekwood will win this district hands down. I'll go ahead and anoint them myself if needs be. I've seen every team play except for Stewart, Camden, and Harpeth, and they are definitely the best team. Of course someone could always play an inspired game and beat them, but that seems unlikely. I hear Camden is pretty good, I'd like to see them soon. Good luck to everyone playing Friday.
  9. Yes, from what I heard Horkins did quit, and yes Harpeth still hasn't won a game yet. They had 2 really good chances last week holding leads late into the 4th quarter and couldn't get it done. They, like Cheatham, are relying heavily on Freshman and Sophomores to win games. Look for both of those teams to get better in the next few years. Looking forward to the next coming weeks, since the District schedule in now in full gear. It's gonna be interesting to see how the district stacks up. Creekwood is the overall favorite to win, but don't sleep on Camden, Waverly, or Montgomery Central, who in my opinion have one of their better teams they've had in the last few years. Good luck to all!
