  1. Blind draw from my understanding which doesn't make sense to me. Cumberland County went undefeated during the season and got the worst draw - have to play Thursday in a "play in" game then two games within 4 hours on Saturday if they win their games. I'll try to find the bracket, I've seen one. In girls, I know CCHS and Stone are in opposite brackets.
  2. Thanks DyronNix, one my favorite UT players - he was a good guy too - had the pleasure of getting to know him in college. Thanks for the info, it makes sense for me now. Here's the definition. It doesn't sound like there are no grade restrictions, just can't be a varsity starter. "Junior Varsity – Any level of play below the varsity level, whether denominated as junior varsity, b-team, or otherwise. The membership of a junior varsity team shall be composed of varsity substitutes and any other non-varsity players identified on the school’s eligibility list." Page 6 – 2014-2015 TSSAA Handbook By-laws – under definitions
  3. I'm looking for clarification on rules about JV and Varsity games in the same night/day. I understand there was a "quarter" rule were a player could only play so many quarters a night, but a coach recently told me that as long as a player doesn't start on varsity, they can play as much JV as they can/instructed. I asked a ref the other night and he didn't know. Anyone know sure?
  4. Well, the Jets came up short Friday night against Stone, losing by 8. Needless to say, it's been a "roller coaster" up here on the mountain this season. We were without three starters against Stone, but played hard and were in the game until the final minutes. Several CCHS freshmen played meaningful minutes and one lead all scorers against a senior laden Stone team - the future is bright for CCHS(hopefully). We need a "us against world" attitude going into Tuesday's game at White Co. and the rest of district play. These boys have nothing to lose, just play hard and have fun.
  5. Looking forward to this game on Tuesday too. Cumberland County has been playing well lately; we have all our players back and relatively healthy. Stone played their best game against us on Friday, but that is expected in your cross-town games every now and then when everyone knows each other and plays their hardest and best. This should be a classic game, I know CCHS will be trying to make it a fast game - not sure if that is best though, but that's how they roll - press, press, press.
  6. That's a smart bet. Rhea looked good here last week; we may have had something to do with that. I'll take Rhea over Warren. Looking forward to hearing the results from the White Co/Cookeville game though - you guys be sure to give us updates. We should know a lot more about the district after tonight.
  7. Cross-town rivals play in Cumberland County tonight with CCHS and Stone squaring off at CCHS. CCHS is going to be down a few key players and I think Stone will be missing one or two also. Stone's talent level is at it's lowest since the school started, but CCHS is struggling to win any games at the moment. It should be an interesting night.
  8. I hear the tourney is freshmen only next week. I thought it was agreed that this year Sophs were included? CCHS has only 5 healthy freshmen, hopefully no foul trouble or injury. How is this affecting everyone else?
  9. I'm with you BigFan1966. I've been saying this for several years here in Cumberland County, we have two of the smallest AAA schools in the state and struggle to compete. We need to organize with say, Crossville Christian School and send our best athletes there, keep enrollment below 300 and play A ball. This is what is trending in the metropolitan areas - CPA in Nashville, Catholic and Grace Christian in Knoxville, etc..
  10. 90warrior, yes Catholic has a very good group of freshmen in both basketball and football - I wish we were going and playing some teams like that. My son plays with several of those boys at Catholic in AAU and knows the rest of them very well. They're good group of kids - a lot like your group at Sparta and our group in Crossville. CCHS beat Stone tonight 90-30 at CCHS in Fresh/Soph game. We'll see you guys Thursday night, it's our last game before the tourney.
  11. jhdill, I have no problem with those girls playing at CR. It's a great opportunity for them to play for Lamar and increase their chances of playing for state championships in class A. But when you start talking small school/single A and three of your starters played at AA York Middle School within the last two years - Smith, Garrett, and Meadows. Again, I have the highest respect for Clarkrange, I've been watching them play ball since the 70's, but with the way they attract players from throughout the region, it's hard for me to classify them as your standard class A program. That is a compliment more than a knock - we should all want our programs to be thought of that way.
  12. To properly classify Clarkrange, you should include the enrollment of York/Fentrss Co.. How many key players played at South Fentress? You guys need a "forward slash" in your school name, Clarkrange/York.
  13. Alumn89, It was a close game, but shouldn't have been. They hit foul shots at the end and their quick guard caused us trouble penetrating. We have no excuse, just not playing good since the new year. I could give my theories, but it's best I don't.
  14. CCHS is struggling for whatever reason. It's really hard to watch right now with as much potential they have. Not sure if it's what we are not doing or if everyone knows what we are doing? Disappointed on the mountain!!!
  15. Clarkrange was a different team against Cumberland Co High School this past Tuesday in Crossville than they were at their place in November - night and day. Their home court is a big advantage for them except White County had no problems there last month in taking a win. I think CR at their place and JC at theirs - I see CR as more vulnerable than I thought they would be this year - they need to get in better shape.
  16. CCHS play well and beat Rhea Co. 66-30 in Crossville. One of the bigs from Rhea Co. got a dunk on us though.
  17. Hate to see those injuries - 90Warrior. Warren played us a lot tougher the second time. Alumn89, we're not scheduled to play Cookeville again for some reason - play Stone and White Co. next week then the tournament at Stone from what I understand. Good luck tonight and no injuries for any teams.
  18. Fresh/Soph games start back tonight for CCHS, playing Rhea Co. here in Crossville. I expect a good game. We have one of three injured players back this week - he played good in the JV game on Tuesday against Clarkrange. He should help us the Rhea Co. bigs.
  19. Cumberland County got a good win last night against Clarkrange at home, finally had a good shooting night and got our 6'3" post back (she's been out for the last month with an illness). CCHS built a 20 point lead in the first quarter and managed to finish with a 20 point win after CR cut it to single digits a couple of times. The Lady Jets are 15-3 with three losses to state champs or contenders in Clarkrange, Elizabethton, and Brentwood Academy. We haven't been playing our best through the holidays until last night, hopefully - we can "right" the ship for district play and be able to compete with White County.
  20. 9th thru 11th is strong for CCHS. 8th grade has a few good players on the CCHS side, but Stone is definitely stronger in the 8th Grade classes if all go to Stone - quantity wise. 6th and 7th grades are stronger on the CCHS side. It seems, we skip years for groups of talent.
  21. It good to be getting full swing into district games over the next month. Big "cross town" game for CCHS next week against Stone (Jan 16 at CCHS). CCHS hasn't beaten Stone since the split unless it was the first year. They have certainly dominated the series with most of the county talent going to the new school over the years. CCHS is certainly poised to change the tide especially after this year - I should say they (CCHS) should be if the talent can be maximized, challenged, and properly developed at CCHS.
  22. Alumn89, I agree on Cookeville. You guys have done well; I was impressed with your team when they came to Crossville - I think Bray has done a good job considering the situation that you stated. You are correct on the CCHS Jets being Jekyll and Hydish - I just don't know what to expect game to game. I thought coming out of the Holiday tournaments (5-2 also and a big win over Knoxville Carter), we might be able to make a run the last half. But, we had back to back losses to York and Clarkrange this week - it's hard to take!!!! We play Rhea Co. Friday night in Crossville, hope we can get back to winning ways. I see the district like this right now: 1. White Co - should be team to beat, but they are vulnerable. 2. Cookeville - beat White Co and you're #1 3/4 Stone/CCHS - toss up 5. Rhea Co - haven't seen them yet 6. Warren Co. - not very good when they came to Crossville should be interesting over next few weeks.
  23. Cumberland County has the talent to compete with anyone on their schedule, but we don't have anyone that can guard a 6'7" player with Blevin's talents "man on man" by themselves, and that not a knock on any of our players - we are one of the smallest AAA schools in the state with smaller kids than most single A schools - it's the deck that we are dealt. I like using multiple zones against specific teams, it might have helped against Blevins? But, I would have never thought we would beat Carter playing "man to man" the whole game, and we did and they are bigger than York and way more athletic. It's a weird game sometimes.
  24. CCHS Jets play well today, beat Carter for consolation championship 96-92 in strong Pigeon Forge tourney. Great win heading into January.
  25. Is the Cooper girl back for Clarkrange yet? I understand she was out for the previous games during their little losing streak a few weeks back.
