  1. That's ok Couch... a field goal by DB to win with less than a minute to play in a game the Hilltooper student section had already started yelling "Score board, score board...†is karma for Carters @ss if you ask me. LOL I’m just hoping for a good showing by the Vikings to give Boone that “we really aren’t as good as we thought we were†moment that they tend to have each year. popcorneater.gif

Look at life since the big 8 was put together. Pretty sure the Vikings are always the ones that have the "were not as good as we thought we were" moments. 2009 followed by not even making it last year. You want to take stats away from 2 games to prove your qb surperior? Well guess what jack, it doesn't work that way. It's called inconsistency and it does not make him a good qb. Littleton has intercepted way more interceptions than he had thrown. I'd take him any day over the Vikings qb.

  2. Well first of all I think that it is completely ridiculous that the only two 5a big 8 conference teams to make it are playing in the first round. I promise not to whine about it anymore, it's the hand we were dealt so gotta go play the game. Alot has changed since these teams played a month ago. Boone really hasn't been tested since losing #23 so I'd say at this point it's anybodys game. I believe it will come down to who wants it more and I'm highly doubting Tn High turns the ball over like they did in the last game. I guess what I'm trying to say is I really don't want to play TN High, they owe us one from a couple of years back when we knocked them out of the playoffs when they were ranked number one in state.

  3.

    For the record in 2009:

THS: Beat DB, Science Hill and Boone in regular Season

    DB: Beat Science Hill

SH: Lost to DB, THS, and Boone

Boone: Beat DB and Science Hill in Regular Season. MAJOR Upset over THS in round 2

Now, it's impossible to beat DB AND Science Hill?

    2010:

    THS: Beat Science Hill

DB: Beat Boone, SH, and THS

    SH: Beat Boone

    Boone: Beat THS

It is Possible to beat DB and SH

Didn't say it was impossible, said that it should never happen. DB and SH were both in rare down years and Boone came out of nowhere. It was the first year of a new conference and everyone was kinda getting a feel for each other. But thanks for bringing up that Boone knocked out the top ranked Vikings in the castle, but I wouldn't call it much of an upset. Stubbs just got out coached and players thought they had it won before they took the field. Although I could see a similar thing happening if Boone and TH play in the playoffs. Similar scenario, I could see it being bad for Boone.

  4. Because the coaches wanted it this way. This plan has been tweaked annually since its inception based on input from the coaches and ADs. Initially, finishing 1st or 2nd didn't matter. Then, it gave you an automatic bid to the playoff. Now it gives you preferred seeding.

Don't look at it as being penalized, you're just not being rewarded for being Boone. In other words, there are other schools in the same boat.

I don't expect to be rewarded for being Boone by no means. But I don't expect to be penalized for losing to two state ranked 6a teams. Just doesn't make sense for a team to come from a weaker conference and finish first or second but have a worse record or have not played the same caliber teams and get a higher seed. In this case Boone gets the shaft year after year because they should never beat DB or SH. Not saying it isn't possible for them to beat them but it shouldn't happen. Oh well might as well play a tougher team in the first round and grow a little bit throughout the playoffs.

  5. Yall know alot more about this than I do but I thought that you didn't play teams from your conference in the first round. Also how do you justify No. 1 and No. 2 with a 7-3 record in a conference getting a higher seed than a team that is 8-2 from a different conference but finished No. 3 in conference. I just can't see Boone getting penalized for finishing No. 3 in a conference with two 6a teams that finished 10-0 and 9-1 and ranked in state polls.

  6.

    I'll give you some football:

    Match ups

SH QB and receivers vs. Boone Secondary edge SH

SH Line and RB's vs Boone d-line, LB's edge Boone

Boone QB and receivers vs. SH Secondary edge SH

Boone Line and RB's vs SH D-line, LB's edge SH

    Special Teams edge SH

    Coaching and intangables edge Boone

There you have it. SH 5-2. Boone has to find a way to make it a 2nd half game because if they can .... well you know....

I dont know that SH qb receivers have that much of an advantage over boones secondary. Tn high qb and receivers are a very good unit and Boone picked em apart. If Boone contains and takes away the big plays then it's a winable game. That's not outside of the realm of possibility contrary to what bandino will say.

  7. Denying that winning generates interest in a program is denying that the night follows the day.

The University of Tennessee has had back to back losing seasons and are well on their way to another. They still can't beat Florida (8 years running). But they still manage to average around 80,000 fans a game. Try again bandino.

  8. Speculatory BS...If you want a reason for lack of fan support (I don't really by that by the way), look no further than results.

Haven't beaten DB since 1994, countless losing seasons in the time frame, including 0-10 and 1-9 seasons. Haven't advanced past the 2nd round of the playoffs since the early 90s.

    Of course, winning changes things...

So the SH fan base is a bunch of frontrunners that only support their program when they are winning. Sounds about right. It's good to see you can make a good post, maybe during all of the others you were out of breath and lightheaded from blowing your horn too much?

Alright give him a break I think he's been blowing on this thing all day and feeling a little light headed. Ok well never mind it was a really big tuba and the link won't work.

He's helping to support your case and you knock him down? A tuba and calculator await you maybe you should just stick to "your love of music". That one time at band camp......we all know how that one ends.

  10. The bottom line is . . . The kids take the field, some will get burned, some will get bruised, but all will have fun playing the game! The rest of us will hopefully enjoying watching it . . . Then we can rush home, jump on CoachT and boast, laugh, argue, get mad, wine, cry and have fun doing it.

popcorneater.gif We must like it or we wouldn't keep coming back! icon_mrgreen.gif

Wasn't really attacking you personally. When I said you I meant JC/SH as a whole. As for the coal industry it's a good paying job but very very dangerous.

  11. Oh yeah! Being highly educated and working in medical fields making money everyone dreams of is so bad! Soft as butter man! Must suck to be well off. But who cares as long as we have Boone football! Seriously though, how can you even make fun of that.

Didn't say it was bad to be well off, said it made you soft, as in not tough, as in wimps. Some people make a living with their brain other people make it by breaking their back. The blue collared back breaking worker is who made this country what it is. Because they are tough, hard workers and don't have everything given to them. I am a product of a working man and a county school and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I learned things inside of that county school that you city slickers couldn't even begin to grasp. Keep your white collar and I'll keep my blue one.

  12.

In all seriousness, my mother went to Boone and my father to Crockett. As kids, they pulled me and my brothers from Gray elementary and sent us to Liberty Bell. One reason was for the opportunities in music (I'm a confessed band geek). Other reasons were purely academic.

Please excuse me while I chuckle.......................ok I'm finished. A confessed band geek taking pride in his ball team, this softens my heart. I'll give ya that argument SH band is WAY better than Boones. I'm having a hard time remembering the last time I went to a football game to hear the band play. That's usually the time I get up and use the facilities. By the way, your parents should have sent you to DB if they were looking for a good band program for you because once again SH sits 2nd to DB in that category also.

  13. Easy now . . . I'm a Boone grad . . . I have fond memories and life lessons of my days at Daniel Boone as a student and athlete. But, my kids have played and continue to compete under the banner of Science Hill. I'm proud of that!

But, on the same token . . . If I lived in the county and my kids went to Boone . . . I would be okay with that too.

I will say, there is some benefits in education and in athletics that were (are) available at Science Hill that isn't available at Boone.

It is what it is . . .

Could you please elaborate on those opportunities.

  14. Seriously this is the best thread ever....Boone guy says that we have kicked their butts 2 of the last 3 years, which they have and have just as good a chance to do it this friday...SH guy says we have like 135 weapons just like the Vikes said last week and says they win by 5 tds because we beat Volunteer by 8....then our x-girlfriend DB who we love now even though they broke our hearts a few weeks back they are definitely better than you guys...LOL I love it...and don't forget the butter

I would like to bring out a point that seems to come up often about the lack of support of football in jc. I see that most towns around this area are blue collar towns. I know there is money in jc and kingsport but how its made reflects the culture of the city. Kingsport bristol and rural counties are mostly blue collar workers that have grown up playing football. Jc is white collar higher education professionals or white jacket medical jobs, in which most individuals were very academic in nature or from foreign countries that didnt grow up with football.

More support for the fact that SH and their white collared "professional" are......soft as butter!

  15.

If you're not going to use bullet points, at least organize your thoughts in paragraph form.

SH has run into the same Maryville wall a lot of other teams have in the playoffs.

As far as Boone taking 2 out of 3 from SH, well, there are plenty of things that happened in the past that you won't see happen again.

If I wanted my work edited, I'd send it to an English teacher. One subject is a paragraph multiple subjects require multiple paragraphs. Figured you'd know that with that fine SH education you've got there. In the county we spread butter on toast, what do you city folk do with it?

  16. You got to be out of your cotton picking mind if you think Boone could keep up with the toppers. I'd like to see Boone compete with Mo west or Greeneville.. The toppers will score at will.. Everybody talks about Science Hill not beating the real DB but nobody else has competed with them year in and year out.. This argument is jealousy at its finest..

Pitty the fool. TWO OF THE LAST THREE! Last time we played you before that was 2004 and that's irrelevant but if you include it then the stats show that Boone and SH split the series with Jenkins as coach. I'd call that competing.

  17. Let me guess, you're a Boone grad. I wonder why I think that. Maybe it's because you talk so bad about science hill when it's obviously a better school, and right now, a better football team. Something bout county boys, narrow minded and stubborn. But you keep thinking your rough and tough little football squad will actually do something. Once again... This is the team that only beat VOLUNTEER, by 8 points. Get real. Maybe next year. I bet 90% of Boones starters wouldn't even get to play at Science Hill.

A Boone grad? No way not me! I've been trying for so long to hide it and here you are telling the whole world that I graduated from Boone. What gave me away? Let me guess, you figured out that the trailblazer in my name had to mean something and it led you straight to the thought that I was a Boone grad. I should have tried to hide my identity a little better. Nothing gets past you slick. Over the last three seasons my rough and tough little football squad has beat your city boys two out of three times. As for beating volunteer by 8 that seems to be your only foot to stand on so I'll take a shot at knocking you on over. Boone beat volunteer by 8 and beat Tennessee High by 30. According to your crutch that Boone is not good because they beat volunteer by 8 it translates to you are saying that volunteer is better than Tennessee High. Not thinking so. Boone beat volunteer by 8 early in the season. A good football team grows over the course of the season and what Boone did to Tennessee High shows how much they have grown. DB will put SH on their tail right before the playoffs and yall will still be whining about it when you lose in the first round of the playoffs. There's one thing that Boone has over you, we may not have the athletes to compete with DB and it showed when we played them but it doesn't matter because the whole reason you play the season is to have a shot at a state title and we don't have to play them to do that.....but you do! In that sense SH might as well not even have a football team. The past 4 seasons Boone has had trouble making it past knoxville in the playoffs but thats something that yall dont have worry about because you can't even make it out of the tri-cities. Oh wait nevermind yall have a hard enough time even making the playoffs....

  18.

Really, we're making up numbers now??? Let's say Coach Carter was getting the maximum salary for a Johnson City School teacher; $81, 681 (30 years experience with Ed.D). That would mean that he was getting around a $10,000 stipend for football. That's just silly. His base salary is more likely around $46000-$50000. That would be a $40000 stipend for football. Do you really expect anyone to believe that???

You can do better than that, surely...

Thats the number the press released when he was hired.

  19.

Man, can we say jealous envy?

You've caught me, guilty as charged! You seriously expect someone to be jealous of a school with 3,000 students and a $90,000 a year coach and still can't beat DB? Get real! Like how you've commented on everything I've said. Looks like I've struck a nerve.
