  1. Sorry I disagree but respectfully but due to officiating in northwest it has caused games and attendance to be down and players not to be ready for the next level. The game has to be played more physical in this area or just tell teams to only play zone and lets just allow football in weight rooms

I have no problem with physical play as long as the refs let both teams play. District 13 AA has no attendance problems and has had several D 1 players that have been successful and officials have let them play most of the year and not been one sided. Not the case last night. 0 fouls in 2.5 quarters. Come on.
  2. Both teams will win. The officials were okay tonite the problem is you guys are used to the free throw contest that northwest crew provides to the game. The game had more flow and players were allowed to play and due to that the team with the better players won.

They let them play alright. They let Covington play. They called tic tac fouls on Westview and Westview's girls were hitting the floor and there were no calls. I am a 13 AA Gibson County Pioneer Fan. I am a neutral party. We lost this year fair and square and we seen some decent officiating, but that crew tonight was totally one sided. Very obvious. 0 fouls in the first two and a half quarters. Really? Covington's starting 5 makes body contact every possesion. They are the most physical team in West TN. Reechus was knocked to the floor three times on lay up attempts in the first half and no calls. 2 of them went back the other way for lay ups. That's a 10 point swing. You call tic tac fouls on one end and have no calls on the other is not letting them play.
  3. Pioneer42, I couldn't agree with you more! Those three women officials that we had tonight should not be allowed to referee another game ever!! I have never seen 0 fouls called on a team for two and a half quarters of basketball with as big and physical of a team as Covington is. The blonde hair lady was probably the worse. She was talking to and cutting up with the Covington fans the entire game. A Westview player fell to the floor hard and when Westview coach questioned it, she replied with there was no contact there coach. Everyone in the gym saw the contact made!! Ridiculous! Anyways, on to the next game. Congrats to Covington and I wish them the best Saturday night against Trezvant!! Would be good to see two teams from District 13AA in the state tournament.

I had been pretty fortunate to see some decent officiating up until this Region 7 AA joke of an officiating crew. They tried to give Obion the game Mon. Night, but they still couldn't win. If I was Westview I would be calling TSSAA first thing in the morning and complain. I complained several times to TSSAA after we got the shaft in the Marshall County State Tournament game in 2009. The calling got better.
  4. Westview will beat Manassas by 20. They lost four starters from last year, but return a D1 talent in Tiffany Jones whom UTM is recruiting last I heard. They had a transfer come in from Memphis Northside who is pretty good and very athletic. Westview should win this game though by quite a bit...

Thanks GC. I knew I remember you saying they had a good D1 player. I had been fortunate this year to watch lots of Gibson County games and District Tournament games with good officiating, but the Region 7 AA crew was terrible. I felt bad for Westview.
  5. 65 -54, Covington.

Yes I was there. Westview players were hitting floor whole first half and 0 yes 0 fouls were called against Covington. Hadn't seen that one sided officiating since Gibson County Marshall County 2009 State Tournament Game. Westview had to beat Obion and their refs Mon. Night, but they couldn't do it two nights in a row. Covington is a good team and don't need any help, but they are in for a rude awakening when they get to M boro. Officials in Murfreesboro won't let Covington push and shove and handcheck all night. But I will give them credit. They are well coached and play hard.
  6. Know anything can happen especially after watching this referee crew that was in charge of 7 AA. Westview beat the referees and Obion Monday night, but couldn't do it two nights in a row. Covington did not have a foul called against them in the first half. All the fouls were called on Westview. Any one know about Manassas? Know they were in M boro two years in a row, but don/t know how many they lost.

  7. McMinn Central is looking better and better. I haven't missed a game this year, so I have seen the progress. I like the quote above about being able to win even in adversity and when playing bad. That was the case last night against Meigs. I don't usually say things like this, but the refereeing was atrocious last night. Meigs had 15-20 more fouls called for them. Add that onto McMinn Central not hitting easy buckets under the goal, and you only get a 7 point win. Meigs is good, but MC should have won by 25+. I was told last night that the head ref has said before that he doesn't like Elizabeth Masengil's attitude and that she would never get a call from him. I'm not saying that is true or not because it is just hear/say for me, but watching the game, I can't argue against it. Masengil was beaten to death last night and hardly ever heard a whistle because of it. Watched a bit of the East Hamilton/Tyner game after and must say that I'm not too impressed. Should be at home for Sub-State this Saturday.

Masengil is a great player. We have a girl that is a freshman that reminds me of Masengil when she was a freshman. Westview had some awful calls as well last night. It is a shame that refs want to dictate games and chooses their favorite. We have a few officials around West TN that does the same so I can relate to it. Sign of a good team that can overcome adversity and still win. I met Johnny and talk to him once or twice a year. I hung out with Johnny and Masengil's father and I want to say the boy's coach when we played you guys three years ago in the finals at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro. Good people and seem like they like to have a good time. Especially the boy's coach. McMinn Central is always a tough out as well. I was there last year at the Obion game and I seen the potential last year. Had young good players on the floor and were tall. If I had to bet right now, I would take Westview or McMinn Central to win it all. I am choosing Westview because I have seen them in person and watched them beat the State Runner Up twice in consecutive weeks. But I know McMinn is loaded as well and wouldn't suprise me if they won it. You guys will be playing either Cannon County or Livingston Academy in the sub-state right?
  8. Great games by all teams tonight! Westview and Obion Co both executed their game plans well by limiting Goodman and Vincent's touches. Kendall Leyhue and Harrelson were huge for Westview last night. I don't think either of them has led Westview in scoring all year but both stepped up and made shots because Obion chose not to guard them. Pioneer42, I agree with what you said about the foul called at the end of regulation to send Goodman to the line and the foul that made Rechis foul out. That officiating crew was pretty bad. They called and didn't call several fouls last night that seemed obvious to everyone in the gym except for them. I hope they are not back Wednesday night. The Westview vs Covington game should be a great one Wednesday night. It will all come down to who can rebound the ball. The winner of the rebound battle will be the winner of the game...I'm gonna go with Westview in a close one by 2.

I think Westview will beat Covington in a close one as well. I think Westview is a better team for the Boro than Covington. They rebound well, have few turnovers, play inside and out, tall and athletic and coaches make good in game adjustments. They have been battle tested and have recent Boro experience. I really like their chances. They have beat the State Runner Up twice in 2 weeks. They won't be intimidated.
  9. Going to be a good AA Tournament. Looks to me, just by looking at the scores there is a lot of good teams but not a dominant. Grainger of course is undefeated and you can't overlook that. I have watched Westview the last few weeks and they are a team that grinds it out and is just a good fundamental team and will be a tough out. They can have a bad game and still win. McMinn Central is always tough and will be a force. They have a great coach and are always fundamental. Let's hope that Westview and McMinn don't draw each other like Obion and McMInn did last year. I will take Westview to win it all. They are very athletic and tall. Don't turn the ball over a lot, rebounds well, they can go inside and out. Reechus fouled out in the 4th last night with 5 minutes left and they still won. McMinn Central will get some votes as well.

  10. Just got backs from Dyersburg and got money's worth. Dyersburg had an 8 point lead with 5 minutes left and found a way to lose. Obion and Westview was the best game I have seen this year. Obion was without Shannon Wiggins who looked like she had a knee injury. But Obion played their hearts out and almost pulled it off. Obion was down three in regulation with 10 seconds left and had the ball. Westview fouled Paige Hicks with 6 seconds left. She made the first and intentionally missed the second Obion got the rebound and threw up a prayer and Goodwin ran down the loose ball and a very questionable foul was called right at the buzzer and Goodwin hit both free throws to put in OT. Westview then griitted it out in OT. Reechus fouled out on another terrible call with 5 minutes left in regulation. She went up twice for a layup and was knocked to the floor and she was called for the foul. There was a young guy that was terrible in both games that never be allowed in a gym again, Terrible officiating, but Westview overcame it and seem to get off to a slow start every game, but finishes strong. But 13 AA had two great games. Sad to see Dyersburg or Obion lose. Really played hard. Congrats to all teams. Wonderful showing.

  11. Going to be be two wars like last week. Last weeks game Dyersburg and Covington went into OT and Covington pulled it out. Dyersburg had numerous chances. Obion was up 11 at half against Westview and lost by 5. Their defense decided they were going to take it easy and Vincent went off. I will take Westview and Covington. I feel Westview can contain Goodwin enough with their heighth and they can shoot the three better. Also I think Westview has the better coach. I feel Dyersburg matchs up well, but I feel Covington has the better coach and play a little more poised than Dyersburg. Dyersburg goes through too many possesions where they are out of control.

  12. Well...I got the Bolivar/OC game wrong.... Big win by Obion Co.! Always good to see an all 13AA region tournament. This sets up some great semifinal matchups! Is the semi's and finals at Dyersburg?

Semis Are at Dyersburg and I would assume Finals as well. 6:00 start on Monday. Will be 2 wars I can tell you that. The District games they played were phenominal. Looks like Obion finally decided to play a little defense I guess last night. I figured they would lose that game as well. We all they have a good offense, but their defense has been going through the motions.
  13. In AAA I would let someone take the rest of the field as long as I could take Riverdale and/or Science Hill. I firmly believe the Gold ball will be held by one of those two teams. Even if there is an upset say in the Region Finals by someone like Blackman I’ll still take Riverdale to be there in the end. Science Hill should cruise to Murfreesboro. The only dark horse I would see would be Memphis Central, Nina Davis is that good.

This might be the bracket to watch in Murfreesboro. It is wide open in AA in my opinion with no clear cut favorite IMO. Grainger has been rolling this year and is the only team that might be considered a favorite, but with no recent experience in

Murfreesboro I wouldn’t consider them a favorite. McMinn Central a team with plenty experience in Murfreesboro and a recent state title would be right there as well. But I believe they are a number of teams that could beat either but with the most of the “number of teams†being concentrated in 2 Regions. I would put the winner of Region 4-AA and the winner of Region 7-AA whomever is left standing in those two brutal Regions could easily make a run to a Gold ball. That’s not to mention the defending state champ CPA or Macon County that has a recent runner-up finish; if either makes it to the Glass House they would be capable. I expect a lot of close ball games in AA.

Single A is not as wide open as AA and not as clear cut as AAA. I think I would take 4 teams and let someone else take the field, in no particular order Union City, Jackson County, Summertown and Cosby. I really think the Gold ball is between those 4 teams. Of course, some of those mentioned Cosby/Summertown have to make sure they don’t slip up between now and getting to Murfreesboro.

Don't forget about 13 AA. It' very brutal. Ask Obion. They lost 1 player off of last year's State Runner-Up Team and I have them going down in the Region. Keep your eyes on Westview if they get past Obion or Bolivar which I think they will. Very tall and athletic. Got inside and outside game. Not a lot of TO's and have Boro experience.
  14. I miss those days, the year we were going for the 5 peat, we beat the number 1 team in the nation to start the season with Dateline NBC at the game. What a win. But even that team couldn't go to McMinn Central and win as we were upset in the Region finals sending us to our season ending defeat at McMinn Central. We were up at halftime, our girls just run out of gas. :(

McMinn Central is another great program. Johnny Morgan is a real good guy and a great coach. Jackson County and LA are a big reason others like McMinn Central and Gibson County didn't win more titles in the past.
  15. That was an amazing run. I remember seeing you guys up there. You guys might have put us out during that time. Looks like we will be in 14 A next year and have a good shot to make it to the Boro. We have a Freshman that was good this year and could be a superstar. We only lose 1 starter from a team that finished 11-7 in 13 AA. We actually done better than I thought. If we improve this year like we did last we will be real competitive. We have to learn to handle the ball better. Way to many TO's. If you want to know the truth, the Boro might be tougher in A with you guys and Clarkrange.

  16. I can see you have a lot of love for your district and team and thats a great thing. We are all so very blessed to be able to live in a country as great as ours even with its flaws. I consider myself lucky to be able to watch great teams play and cheer for my team at the same time. Its a fun time of the year and I can't wait to watch some great games this year at the glass house. If Jackson Co. had been in 8AA this year they would have been the favorite to win it since they beat the team that won the district tournament by 23 points the last time they played, that being LIvingston Academy but they're not however this is still one of the best AA districts in the state. I don't see a real dominant team this year but i do see some very good teams that are capable of winning it all if they get hot. I still say that McMinn Central is the odds on favorite to win the Gold this year but as we all know once you get to state anything can happen and it usually does! :popcorneater:

Jackson County has always been the real deal. Any team that wins 4 state titles in a row and I think that's what you said is amazing. I knew they won three in a row in AA, because I seen it in the program when we repeated a couple years back. I didn't think to look in A the fourth year. But that is unreal. And I am a Gibson County Fan. And in know way am I saying Gibson County goes to the Boro next year in A and beats Jackson County. We just lost half of our school population when they turned our scholl into 2 schools. I think Gibson County will be real competitive next year in 14 A and if they learn to be a better ball handling team could come to the Boro and be competitive. But Jackson County and Clarkrange could win AA a lot of years. When I was referring to 13 AA, I was comparing them to 7 AA and 8 AA this year. And I know 8 AA is for real as well with LA, Cannon County and the Upperman's every year. Good luck to you guys. Union City is tough in A around here, but you guys and Clarkrange might be a bit much for them.
  17. Both teams are well coached. I like Westview's chances in Murfreesboro better. They are a better outside shooting team than Covington. Covington's quickness and heigth down low will keep them in every game. I will be in Dyersburg Mon. Night whoever is there. The four games in the District was all outstanding ball games.

  18. I'm not talking about about "west" "middle" TN. I was directly comparing 2 districts, 13AA and 8AA. In the last 30 years when only counting Gold & Silver 8AA has 17 total! 9 Gold and 8 Silver!! Just one question how many does the teams that have or do comprise 13AA have?

You got West TN. Schools I just gave you didn't have nothing to do with Middle TN. I can tell you Gibson County has 2 Gold, Humboldt 2 Gold (used to be 13 AA), Westview 1 Gold, 1 Silver, Milan 1 Gold, 1 Silver, Chester County 1 Gold (used to be 13 AA), Obion County 2 Silver's. Dyersburg and Covington used to be AAA. 13 AA is a tough leaugue. You better be thankful that Gibson County's school spilt up in 2010. That's the reason Gibson County lost it's depth. Part of the county wanted their own school. We will see how good your girls are in a couple of weeks.
  19. Devilfinatic I take you are from Jackson County and I will give you Jackson County and Clarkrange, both Single A. Your earlier thread referenced 7 AA and I will tell you this Obion County lost one player in Macy Wright, a good player, and they are our 4 seed in 13 AA after they were the State Runner Up in 2012. 7 AA this year don't want any part of 13 AA. Since you guys are bringing up State Titles in the state programs you will see Bradford with 5 or 6 (a school in Gibson County), Gleason with 2 or 3, Trenton Peabody 2 State Titles, 1 Runner Up (another school in Gibson County) Humboldt 2 State Tiltles (another Gibson County School), Milan 1 state title, 1 Runner-Up (another Gibson County school) Westview 1 State Title, 1 Runner Up, Chester County 1 a few years back, Gibson County 2 State Titles, These are within a 35 mile radius other than Chester County. And I am sure I have left a few out. So, I will give you Jackson County and Clarkrange in single A. And Jackson County 3 peated in AA I believe. Very good teams. I referenced 13 AA in past 5 years. Westview 2 Final Fours, Gibson County 2 State Titles, Milan 1 Runner-Up, Obion County 1 Runner-Up. What has 7 AA done last 5 years? And to Grainger, McMinn Central and Livingston Academy and ? when you see the brackets and you see Obion, Westview, Covington or Dyersburg drawn you better get ready for a war and pack a good lunch.

  20. Devilfinatic, first of all I ain't no newbie, and second of all, District 7 AA I will bet your number 1 can't beat 13 AA's 4. Maybe you need to ask McMinn Central about District 13 AA since they are 0-2 in head to head matchups in the last 3 years. District 13 AA has been in the finals 4 out of the last 5 years. Sounds to me like you are the newbie. Obviously, you have not been to Murfreesboro in a while and watched the state tournament. If you go this year, you will see District 13 AA again in the finals.

  21. I am pulling for Westview as well. My little neice goes to Union camp and Amber Reechus has been real good to her and I like watching Vincent, younger Reechus, and the Layhews play. I met several Westview folks when we were at Murfreesboro during our run. Lot of good people at Westview. I think they are fundamentally sound and if they can hold their turnovers to a minimum I think they can win it all. They play good defense and they will be opposite of Covington or ? in the Boro. I don't think there is a tougher district out there than 13 AA to get your team ready for the Boro. I know Grainger and McMinn Central are good, but 13 AA is to basketball as the SEC is in football. It is a very tough leaugue.
