  1. Not bashing your post, but the fouling was going on by both teams. I honestly thought that the game was pretty well officiated. It was continous atleast. It was pretty annoying when I did hear OC fans yell that our girls were walking everytime they touched the ball. OC has a good team and I was impressed to see Gibson carry a 37-30 lead into the half. Unfortunately, we couldn't hang on. We shot the ball very well in the first half and went cold in the second half. We had no answer for Brandy Goodman and I doubt many teams do have an answer for her this year. OC should be a contender for a state title this year. They do need some more of their guards to step up. Paige Hicks came off the bench and did play well. Good game played by both teams!

Obion has a great team, but it was very obvious the OC coach was crying to the refs most of the second half after every timeout pleading for calls when he was getting the calls already. I will agree that GC went cold in the second half, but there was a 4 or 5 minute stretch where there were obvious hacks especially on Joyce's arms when she shot as well as over the backs on rebounds and body contacts all night that wasn't called. I was setting low on the GC side in the second half. I counted 5 or 6 times where OC's center was in the lane for 5 or 6 seconds. I think they got 4 or 5 more calls than we did, and the calls should have gone our way. In a tight game, this swings games. But every one has their own opinion and that's what makes the world go round. I think GC has great perimeter shooters and 3 good players down low if they get the ball down there. I am happy with the coaches. I think there players have improved a lot from last years team. Three things I wished Coach Hart would do more of: get the ball to the low post more (we will have more uncontested threes and keep teams honest), set more screens (especially for Haynes), and mix a little zone in on defense (make Obion beat us from outside). It is what it is. I have seen games where GC gets more of the calls. I just thought OC got them last night. Last year in the region when OC played Liberty refs didn't let her push people around. Just sayin.

  2. Gibson County lost a hard fought game 67-63 against probably on paper one of the most talented teams in AA. Obion on paper has had talent enough the last 4 years to win the state, but always seem to choke in the region semis. Hate to harp on officiating, but the big center for OC must have been related to all the officials because she fouled GC all night and stood in the lane all night but got away with it. Yet GC got called for every little touch on her. She's a good player, but I can tell you if that game would have been played in M boro she would have fouled out in 3rd quarter. Sorry to harp, but it's a disgrace when one team can play physical and the other can't. OC and GC will be a tough game for whoever this year. I haven't seen Covington or Dyersburg play this year, but I would be suprised if 2 teams from 13 AA didn't go to M boro. Bet it will be OC and GC.

  3. The verdict still waiting on our young coach at Gibson County. We lost two great coaches in back to back years, but I think he had a good year considering what we lost last year. One of our best returning post players quit in the early season and our leading scorer in the District Tournament couldn't play in the Region-Semis due to a viral infection, which we lost in OT, and had a 5 footer go off the rim in regulation to win it. But I think our experience this year will help us get back to the Boro next year. If we would have been healthy in the region, we would have been there this year. We would have been a competive team if we would have made it, but don't think we could have played with Central's post. But, don't be suprised if Gibson County makes some noise next year. And, of course you have to say Central will be favored. We seen what their backups can do. Macon will be back as well. Lipscomb looked very young. Going to be fun.

  4. I believe with everything that has happened this season (first gold ball, hall of fame, etc..), Central needs to name the roundhouse floor or arena after Morgan in some way. He has earned it and is very deserving. Anyone that knows who to talk to on this, post it and lets get it going.

I am from Gibson County and I have only known Coach Morgan a couple of years. But you could not ask for a more down to earth and great coach and person. I would give any thing if he was at Gibson County. We have lost two great coaches in two years. That guy can flat out coach. You guys need to form a little group with lots of signatures and go to the main pricipal or superintendent. That would be a good honor for him.

  5. agreed. The one who did the AA game wasn't much better.

I agree it was bad. But the 2008 Marshall County Officiating Crew was the biggest sabitage job I have ever seen. In the Gibson County Marshall County 1st round game our two main post players had 5 touch fouls on them in the first two minutes of the game. Totally one sided. I called TSSAA office and told them to save us all a bunch of gas money and we would just stay home if they didn't have more ethics. I called the office the next year and complained before we went back up there that we wanted a fair crew. Mcminn Central got a taste of that crew in their semi-final game against Marshall the same year when Marshall's guard slid on the floor about 20 feet and a no traveling call. They scored the same possesion and Central lost over that play. Central was up by 1 point. Cost them the game.

  6. If not for the bracketing, I still think it might have been Cannon Co. and McMinn Central for the state championship, but you live with the hand that's dealt you. Central has had a few bad draws themself before. Still a very good year for Coach Dodgen and Cannon Co!!!

I wasn't there yesterday, but listened to it via the Etowah radio station....and he was speechless sometimes with the calls on both ends. It's bad when the refs dictate too much.

Not so sure at this level there is an underdog.

Mcminn's big two was the glue but you can't help but tip your hat to your young unsung heros: Wells, Williams, and Guariola for the great D, especially in the third yesterday. The Wells kid is a defensive machine.

  7. I remember 2 years ago with about a minute and a half in the game against Livingston Gibson County was up about 12 and all I could do was cry. We had been to Murfreesboro for years and finally got over the hump. And last year against Mcminn we made a dramatic comeback and beat Mcminn, yet I was so happy but it was such an emotional game I got to know Coach Morgan, Mr. Massengill and lots of of Mcminn fans I could not help but feel bad for Mcminn. You could tell they were as passionate as we are if not more. I sat in there section today and almost felt like we won another after the game. I seen the tears, hugs and the passion for a team and a program that has been so successful over the years finally get their GOLD DAY they deserved. CONGRATS to Johnny Morgan and the whole Mcminn fanbase on a great tournament and getting the GOLD. Well Deserved.

  8. Central could have blown this game wide open if they were allowed 10 fouls a piece! Uuuu say the refs were trying to keep it close LMAO, they were securing a MC win by not calling the 5th foul on key players until 50 seconds left, uuuu gotta be kidding!

I am a Gibson County fan and am a neutral party. I thought the game was officiated terribly on both sides. But, if your Cannon County you had numerous chances to take that game over and didn't. You missed way too many free throws and why would you not in the fourth quarter take it to the goal more with their big girls in foul trouble. The couple of times they did they made uncontested lay ups. I was not impressed with the coaching of Cannon. Mcminn, on the other hand, got the ball to their big two religiously when they were in the game. I think Mcminn took away Cannon's threes and Cannon had no answer. But, I will give Cannon County credit. They, by far brought more fans than I have ever seen. Very loyal fans and it was an electric gym. Mcminn is a very experienced team in the Boro. You guys will be back. Keep your heads up.

  9. Like I said last night, I knew Cannon County relied wayed too much on three and I thought Massengill and Adams would be hard to handle. Refs don't call ticky tac fouls, Mcmminn wins by 20. Mcminn outcoached Cannon County by a long shot. Cannon shot 30 something free throws, still lost by 10 or so. If I got Mcminn with their 2 best players with 4 fouls, I'm taking it to them. For some reason they didn't. Macon County played very well today. I thought Liberty played very lathargic. Mcminn will be very focused on defense. I think Cannon County's guards are better than Macon's. Mcminn will come out focused and take over game early. Mcminn by 15. If refs let them play, 20 or more.

  10. I like the low post presence of Massengill and Adams. A championship team usually has a good down low game. I also feel like Cannon County will have a tough time with Mcminns's press. Their passes seemed a bit sloppy at times today. I also feel they rely on the three too much. If I was Morgan, I would make them beat me down low. I don't think they can. But, Cannon Cannon will have the home crowd and keep it close. Central by 10.

  11. Liberty. Size and athleticism. Ann Jones for Liberty has signed with Memphis and should have her way in the state tournament. I believe Liberty will wind up making the championship.

I'm with you GC Pioneer. They already took down a good team in Obion and they got a good draw. If Mcminn don't have a letdown, I don't know if they can handle them, but it will be interesting. I'm picking Mcminn to win it all. If they don't, it won't be because of lack of talent.

  12. If a team wins it out of the bottom bracket, they will have earned it. No doubt the best teams in that bracket. Will see if fatigue plays a factor. Liberty probably got the best draw of tournament. They are tall and athletic. They can match up with anyone. They took a very good Obion County team down. Going to be interesting.

  13. 10:00 a.m. CST Thursday. The winner of that game will get "rewarded" by getting to play Elizabethton or Cannon Co. in round 2.

I agree that Mcminn got a tougher draw being in the bottom bracket. But you guys just blew out LA. If I'm not mistaken, they were undefeated in the District in the Reg. Season. If Mcminn don't have a terrible game, I bet they will be hard to handle. LA has a lot of tradition.

  14. The good news is that if Lipscomb upsets McMinn Central they probably won't have anything left in the tank when they play the winner of the Cannon-Elizabethton game. I know it's not much but that's the only good news I can think of being in this bracket.

There's no doubt the bottom bracket is the killer. I think Liberty cruises through the top bracket. They are tall and athletic. I am pulling for Mcminn throughout. I met Johnny last year and he's a class guy. He deserves a Gold Ball. I feel like the only thing that gives Liberty a shot at McMinn is that given they win it will be Thur, Fri., and Sat. in a tougher bracket. But it would not suprise me to see Mcminn win convincingly all the way through. We (GC) had our hands full last year with them.

  15. The Chattanooga Howard and Brainerd girls' teams got into a fight with each other at the Districts so the TSSAA banned them both from further post-season play in 2011 and 2012......thus McMinn Central and Polk Co. got a bye. Wouldn't have mattered anyway, McMinn Central would have destroyed either of those teams. Like I said earlier, McMinn's District and Region this season wasn't that strong......which isn't the norm.

Do you really think the McMinn Central players, coaches, and fans don't know Saturday's game against Livingston will be tough??? With the exception of East Hamilton, a team had better be ready to play when you reach substate action......whether at home or on the road.

Good luck to you guys. Hope to see you guys in the Boro.

  16. You get Livingston, Cannon came back and won in ot

I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers, but how did you guys get a bye and your first region game was a semi-final game? As I was saying, Sat. will be much tougher. I wished I lived closer. Will be a war. Good luck to you guys. I don't live far from Woodbury. Seen the Mcminn Cannon sectional last year. I had to stand to watch it. Was loud. Sure it will be electric Sat. night as well.

  17. McMinn by 30 in finals.

McMinn is a good team, but they never have to play anyone till they get to sub state. I noticed they even got a bye in the region. Region 7 AA don't have any byes (Gibson County, Obion County, Liberty, Mcnairy County, Westview, Bolivar, Dyersburg, Lexington) 6 out of them 8 teams could win it on any given weekend in the Boro. They better enjoy the Region cakewalk. Better tighten up starting Sat. night. I wish them well. I stayed at the same hotel last year as the coaches and players. Very deserving and classy bunch of coaches and fans. Good luck. Going to get tougher.

  18. I felt really bad all day today playing the what if's game. You can't help but wonder what would have happend if GC was completely healthy with Tyree out, who had 20 plus points in two of the district wins. Our girls were running on major adrenaline in the 4th, major depth issues. I think we had McNairy on the ropes at one point. I was setting above their bench and they looked in complete schock during the run. It was a great comeback regardless of the loss. I feel for OC fans. They were a very talented and have to learn to put teams away. If GC would have won last night, I would have liked our chances in the Boro with our experience up there. I hear AA has a lot of parity across the board, but congrats to GC for the run. I can't help but feel next year with our experience coming back we will make another run. I would feel real good if we had a low post presence like OC.

  19. I agree. That was a super game. I am so glad I have followed these girls around the last three years. It helps me through every day life watching a resiliant program that never says its over till it's over. The atmosphere reminded me of the McMinn Central comeback. Congrats on a super year when most didn't give us a lot of hope. Good luck to McNairy and Liberty moving forward. Congrats to Obion as well. You guys have a lot to look forward to next year. Had some things that didn't go their way and they didn't finish Liberty off when they had them down. But keep your heads up. You guys had a good year as well as Westview.

  20. Where would this potential match-up be played? McMinn Central is really tough at the "Roundhouse". Does Cannon County have the depth and guard play to win on the road?

If McMinn makes it to the Boro and plays like they did against GC in the finals, they will be tough to handle. I noticed LA is also undefeated in their district as well. Going to be a good state. Region 7 AA is tough as well. Any 4 left GC, McNairy, Liberty and Obion will be a tough opponent in the Boro if the Middle and Eastern teams don't have their A game on.

  21. Congrats to the 4 teams remaining.

As for the Gibson Co./Lexington game, the difference maker tonight was Alyssa White. She had around 15 points and 15 rebounds. She also was at the front of our press and caused tons of turnovers (Lexington had 25 turnovers). Once Lexington calmed down, they did ok against the press. We shot decent from 3 point land, but our offensive force tonight was down in the post. We will have to step it up another notch on Monday night as we go to Dyersburg to play McNairy. McNairy is playing very well as of late. No one expected us to make it this far, so keep fighting!

Your right GC Pioneer. It was only a GC one point lead at half. GC's press was relentless in the third quarter. Reminded me of the last two years. Lexington only got set set up a handful of times in the 3rd. If they make it out of this tough region and the sectionals, I feel like we will be battle tested going into the Boro. I feel like by then maybe we could be healthy. If they keep the same 3rd quarter intensity, I like our chances. I also liked having Megan Porter in the game, an extra point guard, when they pressed us. Keep fighting. A lot of heart is hard to beat.

  22. Congrats to the Lady Pioneers on a great game against the Lady Chargers. This bunch of girls are playing with a lot of heart and again has got to be the most conditioned team I have ever seen. Keep it up girls. Keep fighting till the last buzzer. You have seen the last two years what rewards that kind of effort.
