Gave them all they wanted tonight…was 2-3 threes falling or 2-3 layups away from pulling it out. Came out flat to start second half and hurt us. Did a good job keeping Hart’s points down and took Rivers out of it and that was the game plan going in. I was shocked Haskins came out in something other than the 2-3 but it was a good call that just about worked out

Good game by Westview. Girls fought hard and y'all took it to us first half. Y'all were really pumped up. Big time atmosphere from both fan bases. Proud of our girls for grinding it out. Two great programs. Good luck to y'all going forward. Maybe one of us will win it.

Westview vs GC round 4 on GC home floor....does Westview stand a chance against the hot Lady Pioneers on their home court?!

If the round 2 version of this years rounds happens, very possible they can give GC a run for their money. Think it was a 2 point game in the 4th quarter in that one. Haskins is a really good coach and his defense is a thorn in everybody's side. Always got a chance in whoever they play.

We shut that high-low down that they love to run! We made that freshman play like a freshman! And I don’t believe we gave up any 3’s. Creek Wood’s #22 is a beast down low.

Upperman lost an overtime thriller at Creekwood then destroyed them in Baxter. 22 is a load on the block for sure. SS peaking at the right time. I say let’s dance again at the glass house!!

So good possiblility we see Dyersburg, South Gibson, South Side and Chester County all in Murfreesboro. Interesting. I do think Dyersburg and South Side have a better shot at Upperman and White County personally. South Gibson will be even better next year and year after with all their Jr. High help. South Side and Dyersburg also very young as is Crockett County. Probably a safe bet you will see 3 of the 4 again the next couple of years.

Wow what a break for SS.

Well looks like they had their biggest test last night against Creekwood and passed it big time. Chester County is pretty good as well. Dyersbirg looks like they are in stride. South Side with a big win last night. We played Creekwood before Christmas. Pretty good team.

    What about jackson south side?

Just looked at the bracket. Looks like their substate is Macon County or Station Camp. Not 100% but that is what I am seeing from Region 5.

Everyone is saying that it is GP or McMinn this year.  Both are great teams.  But don’t sleep on Gibson County.  They have beaten some great teams this year and only have one slip up in a game against Crockett Co where a few girls had to sit for a while for disciplinary reasons I believe during Christmas break.  And still then had a chance to win it in the end.  Any game Micah Hart plays in they will have a chance.  And the role players have gotten better as the year goes on.   They will have a say in it.

I kinda like Gibson County and Wilkins being in an underdog role if we make it there. Still have a little work to do. Kinda takes a little pressure off as Gibson County over the years have been ranked number 1 several times going up there. AA is loaded though. We seen Summertown knock off a good Cannon County team who played White County tough twice this year. I mean it's a blessing to get there. A double blessing to win it. I do think the posters on here making all these predictions aren't approved by the coaches. Everyone in the state knows how loaded AA is. GP and McMinn are great teams as the rest of the field is really good as well.

Great win for Jackson South Side last night as they beat a real good Creekwood team. They have a big time Freshman player maybe D-1. Congratulations to the Lady Hawks. They are in District 12 I believe playing in the Middle Tennessee bracket. South Side seems to be really playing good at the right time.

Hey Pioneer.  Initial indication is a knee on Mikayla.  She will go for an MRI today. Davis was triple and quadrupled last night when Mikayla went down. We had no answer once they did that.  We have known all year if one of them goes out it was going to be tough.  But Savanna did what she could and put it on her shoulders; it just wasn’t enough.

Much respect to WC as Savanna made her final exit off the floor, they gave her a standing ovation.

Hate to see that. She is a great player. I will be praying for her for a speedy recovery. Savannah and Mikayla have been great players and have really been fun to watch. Congratulations on a great run. It is a blessing to get to the state tournament and a double blessing to win a state and back to back is even better. Congrats to Wayne County. Good bunch of folks there. We have a little history with Wayne County. Kelcey Risner was a star player at Union and Wayne County and really helped mentor my niece at camps at Union her and Kayla Hudson while she was really young in her basketball career and we think a lot of Kelcey. Good luck to Mikayla and Savannah and the Lady Rebels going forward. Great career.

Wayne County did not look good tonight. Reynolds got hurt in the first minute of the game and then Wayne county guarded Savannah with 4 and the score was tied 5-5 after one, and an 8 point game still within reach at halftime. McKenzie was very limited obviously with what they could do without Reynolds but I'll give those kids credit. They scrapped and fought hard defensively and made it hard for Wayne county to score. In the third with about 3:00 to play Wayne county started holding the ball because they couldn't pull away. McKenzie extended to guard and then gave up some easy buckets to stretch the lead. I say if Reynolds wouldn't have been injured I think McKenzie would've won this one....

Wonder what happend to Reynolds?? Must have been pretty bad to make her leave the game. I figured Mckenzie would have the mental edge because of past meetings. But Wayne County found a way to win the game when they didn't play well. I figured it might be an ugly game with lots of Turnovers. Still have to hand it to Wayne County. They might have played it different had Reynolds not gotten hurt. Probably knew it was difficult for Mckenzie to score and they just started running clock.

Trenton Peabody assistant coach ejected out of game after threatening a fan and fan hit him upside the head! Just wow!! That should def cost him his job!!

We all live together year round. Three miles apart. All will be good tommorow. Emotions in a game. Congratulations to Peabody on a great year. Gibson County very fortunate to beat them 4 times. Very athletic and good basketball team. They beat USJ during the season who is in the Final Four in the private sector. Proud of our girls. We have had a great year going undefeated so far against Peabody and Westview. Very blessed we are. Very proud to be a part of a great program. Again congratulations to Peabody.

Are referees not graded through the season? How is it possible that at this time of the season to have referees that that don’t know what direction a team is on offense and can’t make simple calls on who the ball is out of bounds on? I realize they are human and we all make mistakes….but how do you make it to this point of the season and it appears that this is your first game you have ever called?

Sounds like y'all had the Middle Tennessee refs. Reason. I say that is there has been a shortage around there for a while and just have guys that are not very good. Congrats on a big win for Huntingdon.

Clay survives ER to play PC, bring on round 4! That freshman I was talking about for ER is the real deal A. Pennington put on a show she had 31 with 6 threes, despite being face guarded most of the game. She’s got next for sure, congrats to Coach Walker and CC they should have a good chance to make the glass house!

Wayne County with a huge win as well. That District is always tough. Congrats to Pickett County and Clay County. Sounds like the Freshman put on a show. Gibson County survived a dogfight ourselves.

IMHO it would take almost a perfect game and some good shooting from deep from CRange, but I’ll never say Lamar Rodgers doesn’t have a chance. They will both be really good next year it’ll be Pickett and CR at state I believe!

Clarkrange and Rogers always tough and with a lot of tradition and hardware. Like to watch them play.

Wayne has more length than anyone in A.  I'd say they'll run a matchup zone tonight.

They will have to tighten up on Davis. She shot them out of the gym in Murfreesboro last year. 8-11 from 3 point land or something like that. If Wayne County can somewhat turn this into a half court game, I think the post will hurt Mckenzie bad. They don't have anyone to guard her I don't think. Like another poster said in this thread, Wayne County don't need to get down quick in this one like the last two. If they survive the first quarter or so, it will help them for sure mentally.

I think this game will come down to whose supporting cast plays the best. I dont think either team is as talented as they were last year. If Wayne Countys supporting cast is knocking down shots they are tough to beat, and if they are not, they are very beatable. From what i have gathered, McKenzie is pretty much the same way this year.

I don't think so.  Pickett can beat any team in class A.  Emmy Lowe is probably the toughest strongest point guard in the state

I had no idea Wayne County lost to East Hickman during the season. I knew they lost to Loretto. Seen where they beat Summertown twice. I agree supporting cast is important and that has been the question mark all year for Mckenzie. Big question is will the team that beat USJ and Huntingdon show up tonight?? If so, Wayne County may be in trouble. Big question IMO is who is going to handle the ball better?? And how is Mckenzie going to guard the big post for Wayne County?? They can't guard her man to man you wouldn't think. But Mckenzie presses and it has bothered Wayne County the last two seasons. Best matchup in the state IMO because both teams are in a small group of Title Favorites.

ER girls are young, but have one of the best freshman in the state at getting her own shot. Clay is senior ladened, should be a good battle! It is at ER so that gives them an advantage to a degree. I think It’ll be Clay vs Pickett for the 4th time later this week.

Does Clatkrange have any shot at Pickett?? Can't believe I am typing this.

You’re wrong about this. I get being an an East Tennessee Homer, but York Institute lost by two to Gatlinburg Pitman in overtime. York does not have a senior on the team. They have a major D1 player that’s going to Clemson so takeoff your rose colored glasses. GC is also loaded and will be one of the favorites to win it all.

Yeah and Johnny Morgan would not be happy with him giving a lot of bulletin board material out there cause these players read these boards. Johnny I know personally and is not like this at all. Very respectful of opponents even if he is 40 points better than a particular team. Yeah and York is loaded I will agree. Very good.

I’m not saying every game is on the up and up, but without seeing the video I couldn’t see anything shocking about the score.

The unfortunate thing about this time of year is that anyone that loses in a game influencing seeding they open themselves up for criticism. The sad reality is that there are many teams who could benefit from taking a loss. And while a lot of people seem to think that fewer teams would solve the problem, there are teams that would be punished. SGC is a solid example, knocking out Fayette Ware in Somerville as the #4 seed. With a win tomorrow over Crockett I have no doubt that they will make it to the ‘boro.

I am not talking about Upperman game. Just talking about District Tournment games over the years around here. They need to go to strictly Regions so the seeding can be accurate. District Tournaments are very corrupt and have been for years. You see missed lay ups in droves, careless Turnovers, missed FT's where sometimes they hit the blackboard, very weird substitutions....TSSAA needs to do away with the District Tournaments and just go to Regions where everyone will play each other all during the year. It is a problem and has been. The Riverdale fiasco won't ever happen again but people that watch basketball year round know when teams are not giving their all in these District Tournaments.

    THIS

Looking at the regular season meetings I can’t see any reasoning to think a team purposefully lost.

I have watched some games where teams have played bad and had weird substitutions when it absolutely benefitted them the most.

Don't forget clay and east Robertson.  This might be a year where 7a doesn't sweep.  I do think Pickett is too much for clarkrange

Wouldn't be suprised if Pickett wins it all. Wayne County Mckenzie game will be crazy. Clay County always has a good team. Sounds like you know about East Robertson. Man tommorow night is when fans that hadn't been to games all year start showing up. That Wayne County Mckenzie game could have made a fortune if they could have played that game Tuesday. We all are playing same night.

Wayne Co and McKenzie has to be the game of the night. Not saying it will be the closest game, but so much intrigue based on the last couple seasons. Wayne Co feels like the favorite but hard to picture Savanna Davis finishing her career anywhere other than the Glass House

No doubt if Gibson County wasn't playing I would be there. I am like you. Two questions I have is can Wayne County get over the mental hurdle of losing to Mckenzie and Davis and Reynolds the last two years?? And can Mckenzie guard the 6'1 dominant post of Wayne County and who can protect the ball the best?? I am like you. I just can't see Savannah Davis losing this one. I will have to see it to believe it. She seems to play her best against them. They shot like 75% against them at state last year. Good to luck to both though.  Pickett County in a big one against Clarkrange that I forgot about. I also had no idea Sycamore beat Creekwood and put them in the bracket with South Side. That will be a sure enough dogfight. We have played both.

Yes, they played a lot of kids but wasn’t one of their best games, a lot of  missed easy shots & unforced turnovers.  Coach Abernathy will have them focused as they prepare for next game this team is still young with only two (2) seniors & one starts. If, the guards are playing good & making good decision they will have a chance to get back to Murfreesboro but it will depend on how guards play. With 6’4 & 6’5 post players, teams will have to play a zone because you can’t get around shivers & if defense can keep pressure without fouling they will have a shot!

Humboldt has another gear I agree. South Fulton pretty good team but Humboldt was much better. Humboldt definitely needs to win the Region and keep them at home for the sub-state. I agree they have to turn it up a notch defensively. But they looked really athletic with their guards and powerful around the glass. You have to think they will be a handful for whoever and whenever.

  23. Where do we start??

    Wayne County         Summertown

    Mckenzie                 Cannon County

    Gibson County         White County

    Peabody                  Stone Memorial

    Creekwood                 Upperman

    South Side               Lawrence County

    Crockett County.          Dyersburg

    South Gibson                   Obion

    Westview

    Scotts Hill

I believe last year at state wasn't Massengale kept at bay by GC? Maybe to like 10 or 12? I may be wrong but i agree...GC def going to be in the mix this year

Gibson County will no doubt be in the mix, as will all the AA teams going to state this year.

To answer your question, yes GC did hold Molly below her season scoring average, but Bystry made GC pay for double-teaming Molly. And it was Molly's outstanding defense that turned the game around for Central when the game was on the line in the 4th quarter.  Her's a link to the article of the game. McMinn Central girls charge into Class 2A title game | Chattanooga Times Free Press

Maya Turner guarded her and did an outstanding job on Massengale. Massengale is an outstanding player. And yes Bystry hit big time money shots. Massengale I agree got some big steals late to carry McMinn. We were up 5 with the ball with about 4:30 minutes left so we had our chances. Bystry was hitting 3's from downtown. I will give McMinn Central and Johnny credit. Always in the mix and very well coached. Always a very tough out and this year will be even tougher.
