  1. LaVergne is starting the season off decently. We are currently 2-0-2. The two ties were from Cenntenial and Clarksville, the wins from Gallatin and Station Camp. LHS plays Smyrna on April 1.
  2. Centennial & Hendersonville. Hmm, I guess when it comes down to the knock out rounds; any team at any time. I don't seem to recall if either team has met before. Anyone? Both are physical and emotions tend to run high with both teams, so the verbal game could get out of hand as well. Centennial will come out with the win.
  3. Centennial has to play smart in tonight's game. What little I was able to see of Farragut last night, it will be a tough match and I do hope that Centennial wins. The Hendersonville v. Bearden game will be interesting as well but I do believe that Bearden will prevail. Centennial v. Bearden in the final.
  4. Size does NOT matter in soccer - speed, yes. If size did matter, then several world class footballers wouldn't be playing! Check the height/weight stats of any futbol team playing in the World Cup. The US is the only country that is worried about how 'big' a player is because of American football. Of course, there is that player from Coite de Ivorie...thighs the size of large tree trunks... Straight from the TSSAA website: SHOTS: LaVergne - 12; Centennial 13. SAVES: LaVergne - 8 (Antoine Shelton); Centennial - 6 (Ryan Bristol). FOULS: LaVergne - 8; Centennial - 16. CORNER KICKS: LaVergne - 3; Centennial - 8. GOALS: Centennial - Chance Cunningham (61:00, Unassisted); Chance Cunningham (79:00, Unassisted). Daily News Journal story: http://www.dnj.com/article/20100526/SPO ... goalkeeper
  5. The only player holding Centennial in the tournament is Bristol. Bristol is the only reason they made it as far as they have! LaVergne dominated the 1st half and there was no score until the middle of the second half. Centennial didn't know what to do with us. They also had a rather high foul rate and out did LHS on yellow cards.
  6. Good Job, OldSoccer! Only missed the Collierville! Thanks for putting LHS in your pick.
  7. Facts: Thank you for the clarification. We all are still learning. BTW - Akron should have won in regulation. It bites that Anthony A(I let you finish spelling the name) was injured going into the final.
  8. Yes he has! I think he's become a real fan of the beautiful game and this district has give him some great games to cover. I just wish we were using the 'real' field tonight. I apologize in advance for the field conditions. Football fields were just not meant for soccer.
  9. If you had the choice between a regulation soccer pitch with the correct field size and proper grass or a football field that is in despirate need of resting, which would you choose? I don't think any of the players minded. That's who counts. The game goes on whether we're there or not.
  10. Lester Vargas #10 is also rather skilled and does appear to have knowledge of the game. IMHO.
  11. Didn't he play Varsity his freshman year? If this is the young man I'm thinking of, he's a solid player and someone to watch for college. I do hope he heals fast. Bejean (sp?) isn't too bad in the box either.
  12. LaVergne's Keifer Hummeldorf #4. He's like a wild-armed pitcher that needs a bit of taming. Serious tenacity as a forward. Has no fear and tons of energy. This is also a negative. He does have a tendancy of fouling a bit more than he should. With some training and honing, he'll be down right dangerous his senior year.
  13. The LaVergne / Columbia game will be at 7 p.m. at Richard Siegel soccer park on the championship field. I think this is the 'boro's way of making it up to the district for letting the lights go out at 10 pm during the Siegel game. For those who may not know - the game was in the 2nd half of the 1st OT with about 8 min and some change to go when the stadium lights went out. It wasn't until about 10:20 before they came back on. The guy from Parks & Rec left the stadium to run an errand and forgot about us until he was called by the TSSAA official! Needless to say, that was a super long game until Ali Guerra's header with 42 seconds left.
